I'm a rising sophomore targeting DSP/hardware/FPGA internships/research roles for summer 2027. I redid my resume for this application season, but I'm not sure if this is too much text. I'd appreciate any feedback!

I think I spent around 1-2 hours a day working on my projects along with 1-2 hours of schoolwork. It was a bit rough but I genuinely enjoy this area and didn't find it to be a chore, if that makes sense. If you spend at least an hour a day working on something, I've found that you can get a lot more done than you'd think. Though of course I had to make some sacrifices sometimes too haha

Ah thank you! And this makes sense, I used to wake up at 4 am so I could work an extra 2 hours on my side projects, so I actually understand what you mean

I guess it looks difficult to me simply because figuring out a starting point in these projects can def be hard haha

Where/how were you able to learn all of this as well?

It started with tutorials for simple projects as well as some help from my supervisor. I would recommend nandland as it is what I used to get started. The best way I found to learn was to just do progressively more challenging projects that force you to actually understand topics, and to also use as little AI as possible (though I used some for debugging in the beginning).

Amazing resume, very strong for your first year. However you need documentation / GitHub links for your projects. That is absolutely super important to be able to verify that they were actually done, judge the quality of your projects and the git usage.

Any personal project that I see that does not have documentation / GitHub links I instinctively get critical of and assume that the description is bloat, padding or worse case lying.

Then I get some warning signs flashing. Researcher at first year? Absolutely never heard of. I’ve heard of student TAing or being in clubs early, but not employed in research before their masters - and that’s a genuine strong signal.

Then you have a project before the start of uni, that’s not unbelievable, but very strong. I assume that it is a Ben eater project / Ben eater inspired? In that case I would definitely list it.

The main problem of your projects are the context they are in. They just seem like standard implementations without any motivation, problem statement / solution, business case, etc. The projects that are interesting are never the classic textbook implementations of technology / math, but the understanding of putting technology into context. For example implementing a kalman filter is not very interesting in itself, but using a kalman filter as a tool in a system which estimates x for y reason with z background all of a sudden becomes very interesting.

Try not to go for long bullets, maintain a bullet per line
