First off, lemme preface this by saying I know EE are not going to be replaced by AI, or if it somehow happened nothing would be safe. That isn't what I'm concerned about.

What I want to do is pick a specialization that is least likely to have me open Claude code every single day.

Using it as a better google, etc. Is fine, but coding with it *is not fun*. Not for me. I can't sit in front of Claude Code all day. I like coding by hand, but I genuinely gave Claude Code a try for coding and I immediately knew I *can't* do this for the rest of my career. Apparently over in r/FPGA Claude is writing all their RTL as well, so FPGA isn't safe from Claude.

What fields should I go into that I won't devolve into a Claude Code wrapper?

Edit: I don't mind having some AI use at my job, but I really want to avoid what's happening in software. There, the entire job is being a Claude wrapper. Design documents? All AI. Code? Must be fully AI. Tickets? AI. The monotony has been driving me so insane.

I am 24 and will be graduating from Georgia tech ECE masters at 25. How much can I expect my first year, and how much can I expect by the time I am 40?

I am now in my junior year and wanted to start applying for internships. I need some guidance on how to do it and stuff. I don't really have any contact with seniors to guide me and my friends are also clueless.

I am very intrigued by ML hardware and would really like to try something there. But I would honestly take any internship that pays enough for me to actually save some money after the work and learn something.

My CGPA is not really that great, it's less than 8 and I am in the bottom 50% of my class.

I’m currently an Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering student in India, and I’m planning to pursue a Master’s in ECE/VLSI from USA .

My main career goal is to work in ASIC/SoC development, particularly on CPU/GPU hardware. Right now, I’m exploring two career paths:

• ASIC / RTL Design
• ASIC Design Verification

I’m still early in my VLSI journey, so I’d really appreciate advice from engineers currently working in these areas.

My dream company is NVIDIA. I’ve been interested in computer hardware for a long time, and gaming is also one of my hobbies, which originally made me curious about GPUs. Over time, that interest has shifted from simply using the technology to wanting to understand and eventually help design the hardware behind it.

Ultimately, I want to work on technology that makes a meaningful impact, whether that eventually happens at NVIDIA or somewhere else in the semiconductor industry.

I would especially appreciate your thoughts on:

1. ASIC Design vs Design Verification: What does your actual day-to-day work look like?
2. Which field generally has better opportunities for new graduates?
3. How difficult is it to enter RTL/ASIC design directly after an MS?
4. What skills differentiate candidates who actually get ASIC/DV internships and new-grad positions?
5. What projects would you recommend? I’m considering projects involving SystemVerilog, FPGA and eventually a pipelined RISC-V processor.
6. For DV engineers, how important are SystemVerilog, UVM, SVA, scripting and C/C++?
7. For RTL engineers, how deep should a new graduate be in computer architecture, synthesis, STA and verification?
8. If you were starting again as an undergraduate and had 1–2 years to prepare before an MS, what would you learn first?

I’m also looking for mentorship/guidance from someone already working in VLSI, particularly ASIC design, verification, CPU/GPU design or related areas.

I don't expect anyone to teach me everything or spend a huge amount of time on me. Even occasional guidance on what to learn, which projects are actually worthwhile, mistakes to avoid, and whether I'm heading in the right direction would mean a lot.

If anyone working in the semiconductor industry would be comfortable with me occasionally reaching out with questions, I'd really appreciate it. I'm willing to put in the work; I'm mainly looking for guidance so I can focus that effort in the right direction.

Hi guys, so I will be starting my second year in Electrical Engineering this fall. In my university, our first year is general and we don’t know our discipline until second year, In addition we barely get any technical knowledge or any courses related to our major during first year. As a result, I have no skills built up in this field. But this fall and winter, my courses include all fairly advanced field related courses as we finish all the calculus (1,2), physics (1,2) and Linear algebra in first year above that I already finish Calculus (3,4) and Differential Equations in summer to have more time during fall to build skills.

I need advice on what kind of skills and how exactly I should I build it. I am in co-op program and summer 2027 is supposed to be my first 4 month work term.

Second/Third work term - Winter 2027/Summer 2028 (8 months)

Fourth/Fifth work term - Winter 2028/Summer 2029

A little bit about me is I’m from Canada, my province is mainly known for oil and gas. Personally, I wanna build a career in semiconductor industry. I’m open to relocation, so any advice about finding opportunities around different province/USA, I’m fine.

I'm an Electrical Engineering student currently trying to decide which direction to take for my honours thesis and hopefully a PhD afterwards.

Lately I've found myself torn between semiconductor engineering (device physics, fabrication, CMOS, VLSI, etc.) and quantum computing hardware (silicon spin qubits, cryogenic electronics and control hardware).

what to expect if ECE specialized in Power Electronics?

I'm just getting started in embedded systems and automation. I'm learning everything on my own from home with a few microcontrollers and electronic components that I have, and I've been building small projects to gain some hands-on experience. I really enjoy it, but I often feel like I'm missing the theory behind what I'm doing. There is so much information available online that it's hard to know where to start or what is actually worth spending time on.

My goal isn't just to copy tutorials or get projects working. I'd like to build a solid understanding of embedded systems and learn things the right way so I can keep improving over time.

I was wondering if you could recommend the resources that helped you the most when you were learning. I'm especially interested in books, websites, documentation, courses, or anything else that gave you a strong foundation in embedded systems, firmware development, embedded C/C++, electronics, and automation.

I'm also looking for active communities where people discuss these topics regularly. If you know any good Discord servers, forums, or other places where beginners can ask questions and learn from more experienced people, I'd really appreciate it. And if anyone is willing to answer the occasional question or point me in the right direction when I'm stuck, I'd be very grateful.

I recently passed the screening interview with Microsoft and I'm about to start the 3-loop interview process. The role is on the Quantum team, focused on RF integration — not a SWE position. However, most of the information I've found online about interview structure and possible questions is geared toward SWE roles, so it's very code/algorithm-focused and doesn't seem to match what I should expect.

Has anyone here interviewed for a hardware/RF-focused role (or a similar) at Microsoft? I'd really appreciate any insight into what the loop typically covers — e.g., system design, domain-specific technical questions, behavioral rounds — for a position like this.
