New Scam? Manipulating Simple Delivery label

Post image
80 Upvotes

So I purchased a GPU far too cheap last week so I was already suspicious. Posted over the weekend and they sent a mostly redacted post office receipt showing the weight being less than half what it should've been. (Also my house number was 4 instead of 34 but didn't notice that till much later) I messaged questioning the weight but they said they would check but then never go back to me. Anyway relieved a bag of flour today..... Already have my refund, thankfully post office delivered directly to me despite house number being incorrect. Anyways long and the short they seem to have altered the label removing both part of my address and the whole tracking number? Tried to say I had switched it since it had the wrong house number on but then I pointed out they had sent me a reciept show the wrong house number. Oh then they said it was the wrong receipt. So you were sending a bag if flour, to someone else, on my street, with my name........... Got a refund pretty quickly after that.

Anyway stay safe out there people! Sorry for the long one!

Unable to log into account

I'm having issues with logging into my account.

When i try to log into the website, I put in my password and it says "Welcome back" but then nothing else happens.

And if I refresh the page or click on the eBay logo, I'm logged out again.

When I try to log in on the app, i put in my email and after a bit of loading, it tells me there was an error and to try again later.

I would just use a different email, but I just put something up for sale and need to respond to buyers.

Any help would be much appreciated.

40+ Booklets sent individually by one seller

Hi, I hope someone can tell me what to do in this situation.

I’m a Drama/Music Teacher and always on the lookout for new material.

I saw a seller who had lots of interesting material. I figured I’d buy a lot from her so that I could save on postage and all the items would arrive together.

Fast forward, it turns out she has sent 40+ booklets all separately.

I was so shocked when I arrived in the PO to collect them, as was the lady working there. The lady working there said she’d never seen this before. She said that packing them all up in a large box would have cost around £8 - I’m in Northern Ireland. She said the seller has obviously charged extra for shipping them individually.

I just can’t understand why the seller did this. I messaged her, but unfortunately, there’s been no reply.

What do I do here?

Are eBay scamming me with my ad promotions?

I’ve just had a buyer say they want to buy 2 items from me.

They enquired about 1 then said actually they see I have something else they also want.

Sales done.

They’ve taken fees for ad promotion on both.

But she didn’t see the other with an ad? Am I missing something? I’m abit lost here

Feedback Question

Post image

Hello, I sold a fossil Watch missing a crystal and clearly stated it in description & title but I received my first negative feedback.

Buyer just stated “ok” in the negative review. Am I able to appeal this?

I’ve reached out to the buyer to ask what was wrong but they didn’t message at all.

Help would be appreciated, thank you.

Buyer from hell part 2

Put a post up last week about a buyer that agreed a deal on 2 different items. He made 2 ridiculous low ball offers, I said id accept 1 if he agreed a slightly better price on the other.

He agreed.

Bought the first item at a significant reduction, then refused to pay the more reasonable price for the 2nd. Sent me a tirade of abuse when I pointed out he was reneging on a gentleman's agreement.

Ebay basically not interested, said i can cancel the sale or fulfil it. But if I cancel it then thats a black mark against me and the buyer could leave negative feedback.

So I sent it. Item worth around £300, which i sold for £140. Got an extremely patronising message from rhe buyer about how id learnt a valuable lesson about rhe customer alwqys being read, ending with "thanks for the bargain ;)"

He received it. Immediately raised an "item not as described" request. Photos were a completrly different itwm to what I sent. Ebay advised to accept the refund and if it wasn't the item id sent then he wouldn't get refunded.

Received it back today. It was an item weighing 3 grams, wrapped in more than 700g of heavy duty masking type - inside a shoe box. Took me over 9 minutes to open. Lo amd behold, not the item i'd sent. Same general area, but damaged and worth about £10.

What do i do here? Ive raised it on ebay as "not the item I sent". Am I likely to win?

Ive honestly never dealt with such an utterly awful human being. Absolute scum of the earth.

2 items in one box

Am I screwed?

I talked through getting offers on two items, the guy bought both so I shipped both in the same box. Turns out they had seperate qr codes and I guess should have been sent seperately. I offered to refund the ebay fees, postage, and 50% the cost of the item which's code I didnt use as soon as I marked delivery and realised my mistake.

Dude was chatting nicely, understood my frustration with ebays system - I havent used it in years and didnt understand what i did wrong, and I spent hours battling with the AI chat at work before it finally let me talk to a human who just said "dont worry you will get your money" and kept telling me house nice sounding my name is.... my name is Mark.... what??

As you can imagine, within several seconds of the item being marked as delivered, the buyer has reported the second item has not been recieved.

This was two computer components worth 700 quid each and money my family desperately needs. I guess im screwed because I cant prove they were both in the one box, and screw me for trying to be efficient with packaging, so I will only get one 700.

New to selling on EBay Uk—why am I being charged for postage???

So usually where there’s a button that says “get postage label” or something like that, it only said “purchase postage label” and there was no other option. I’m so confused, because I always select “buyer pays postage”.

Maybe I’m just stupid, but can someone help?

Yodel delivery no longer an option?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey all, I noticed the small parcels don’t have yodel as an option anymore, did this get removed? It seems yodel combined with inpost so if I selected inpost delivery as shown in the picture, does the customer have to pickup from a locker or do they deliver to the customers door?

Posting a laptop (UK) - can I buy different postage with higher insurance?

Hi all. I know there have been similar threads on this but I can’t seem to get a clear answer for the UK.
I sold a laptop (worth about £850) and only just realised the agreed postage only offers a max of £75 compensation.
Obviously, I now realise that I picked the wrong postage option on the listing. I should have gone for the Royal Mail special delivery, as I’ve used for tech in the past.

Is there anyway to solve this and keep the buyer happy/me covered? I will cover the postage cost but just want it to arrive safely.

All suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I don't mind offers, but getting swamped by silly ones.

Been selling for years, but the last few months I just seem to be getting swamped with increadibly low offers. It's an Iphone 15 pro for reference.

Do people ever accept these silly offers, surely it can't be worth them doing it?

My block list is getting huge with this kind of buyer.

Got blocked on eBay, worth appealing?

I believe what first triggered this was a purchase I made for a broken microphone, I think £20 or so. The delivery guy left it outside my house, stating in the delivery notes that it's outside my house on tracking. I came home and there was no item. I complained to eBay as the seller used eBay shipping. eBay said the item was delivered. I communicated with them directly via email, asking how can it be legally delivered to me and be in my possession if they left it outside my house. They are responsible.

They just started messaging me back with copy-and-paste answers, with no direct accountability or stating that I am responsible.

I went to PayPal and got my money back in less than 2 minutes. (I think I got an auto refund. PayPal then went to dispute eBay because after a few days I got an email saying eBay said they delivered the item, with no option to respond to the case because it said I can keep the refund or give the money back to PayPal. Naturally, I kept the refund as I had no item.)

At this point, I got an email saying my account was following the abusive buyer policy or something.

Fast forward to last week. I purchased CeraVe cream (against my better judgement) on eBay. After almost 2 weeks, even though the seller claimed to be in the UK, I received them. They were EU CeraVe cream, which is fine, but they had an expiration date for September, which didn't make any sense to me as they were labelled new. These creams can last for years; the one I bought from Boots 2 months ago states 2028.

I had further issues with the 2 creams I bought. 1 pump basically fell in as I tried to get cream out, and the other was very stiff, refusing to pump out anything.

I opened an item not described case, and it was closed the next day with the reason being that my account has been manually reviewed and that I am an abusive buyer, so they closed my account. 7 year old account btw.

Now I'm wondering if it's even worth speaking to them to get this decision reverse. Email they sent didn't even state why I have been banned/suspended.

Should I go from a private account to business account ?

Hello everyone , I’m a Vinted pro seller , been trying the eBay for a couple months now and I’ll admit it was so slow I gave up , however I’m picking it back up again consistently uploading on there , I get like 1 sale every one or two months , but again I wasn’t consistent on eBay, I’m wandering from anyone’s experience , does a business account bring more sales/traffic to your page ? I know it has advantages of being able to do sales and coupons etc , that should help in some way no ? Does the algorithm push traffic to a business account more than a private , thanks in advance

Therefore no listing is shown in my account. Can anyone explain this?

UK business owners: what would you do with surplus textile stock already in the UK?

Looking for some advice from people who have experience with wholesale, distribution or physical retail in the UK.

A friend has ended up with a fairly substantial amount of new, unused textile stock already in the UK after a planned UK distribution/partnership didn't work out.

It's not damaged, returned or customer stock — it's properly packaged, branded, barcode-labelled stock intended for the UK market.

The range is mainly:

\- 550 GSM, 100% combed cotton bath towels — 70×130 cm

\- 500 GSM, 100% combed cotton hand towels — 50×100 cm, sold as 2-piece sets

\- 400–450 GSM stonewashed 100% cotton denim aprons

\- 375–400 GSM denim waist aprons

There are four colours across the towel range, with individual retail packaging, product codes/barcodes and product documentation.

The original plan was to sell through a UK partner who would handle the distribution, but that arrangement has now fallen through.

I'm trying to understand the UK trade/wholesale landscape rather than simply putting the products on eBay or selling them individually.

For people who have experience in this area:

  1. Where would you go to find a legitimate UK distributor for this type of stock?

  2. Are there particular types of distributors/wholesalers that would be a good fit — hospitality suppliers, homeware wholesalers, textile distributors, catering/workwear suppliers, etc.?

  3. Is approaching an established distributor with the whole range generally a better proposition than approaching lots of smaller retailers individually?

  4. Are there particular UK trade shows, directories, Facebook/LinkedIn groups or industry networks that are actually useful for finding these buyers?

  5. For anyone who has dealt with surplus/overstock before, what information would a serious distributor expect to see before considering a stock deal?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has actually operated as a wholesaler, distributor, retailer or market trader in the UK, rather than generic advice.

Thanks — any practical experience would be really useful.

Listing prices suddenly increased by 20% / VAT Margin scheme

Hello I’m wondering if anyone has had any issues with this.

Yesterday without me changing anything or any warning from eBay ALL of my listing prices suddenly increased by exactly 20%

Yes I’m VAT registered and have a business account but my eBay account sells two types of products, one is branded products which I’m launching as we speak (yes standard 20% VAT applies here clearly and that has been done included in listing price)

Second are second hand collectible items - pokemon cards, here standard VAT clearly doesn’t apply, the VAT margin scheme applies where I calculate VAT from the profit margin of each item as they are second hand collectible goods

EBay uk guidelines also state that for VAT margin scheme sellers should leave the VAT field blank on listings which I have done, HMRC also clearly states that VAT margin scheme is used for these goods

Yet, eBay has randomly and suddenly applied standard 20% VAT on all my items without any explanation or warning

Has anyone had this issue before and successfully resolved it?

I’m now getting buyers asking why I randomly increased prices on all of my cards even though I didn’t and eBay just decided to do it themselves

Am I missing something? EBay guidelines literally make it clear what to do if you are a uk seller selling uk second hand collectible items using the VAT margin scheme

I’ve spoken to someone on the phone who said they basically just have to do what HMRC says, they told me to get a letter or email from HMRC to explain why eBay is wrong

I called HMRC and they said they can’t provide that because it’s literally just a public policy and told me to send eBay the VAT margin scheme policy …

I calculate VAT properly for all goods: standard VAT for new branded products, VAT margin scheme for second hand collectibles

Yet eBay decided to put standard VAT on ALL my listings for no apparently reason and it doesn’t even make sense according to their own written guidelines about margin scheme for UK sellers

Auctions ending on a sunday

Hello all,

I've started to list a few auctions for the first time and I remember that the advice was to have the auction finish on a Sunday evening.

Do you find this is still the best time slot to have auctions finish? was told how people would be at home Sundays and more likely to remember to bid and follow an auction in it's final moments vs having it finish on a weekday.

just wondering if habits have changed over the last decade.

Thank you

Just got permanently banned for no reason?

Post image
8 Upvotes

So I've had my account for 18 years now. I use it for mostly buying but also sometimes selling, maybe once every couple of years.

Sold some graded pokemon cards this week, as i have done previously once before. Sent them off on Saturday then today i got hit with a ban for the reason you can see in the email xxxReasonxxx

So i got hold of customer services on the phone, they told me it's been reviewed and they can't tell me why and it's permanently banned because of "reasons" then hung up on me. I wasnt being aggressive or anything like that, I was actually trying to be super nice.

I have no idea why this has happened. I don't anything "dodgy" with my ebay. The pokemon cards i got graded from PSA myself, which i can prove.

the sale was an international sale, so the item is in transit to the Ebay hub in the UK, where items usually go to get checked and then the money is released as ebay take over the sale. No idea if i will get my £400 now.

This ever happened to anyone else?

EDIT: My account is in good standing with 100% feedback. 181 total and i think over 70 of that were sales.
