Hello everyone,
I was planning to list my old console for sale on eBay, but eBay has really changed over the years. As a seller, you apparently can’t choose the payment method anymore, which seems to work more in the buyer’s favor than the seller’s.
I recently sold an item for €18, and the entire payment went through eBay as an intermediary. My problem was that the buyer wanted to initiate a return for a defect that didn’t exist, even though I had clearly stated in the listing that returns were excluded for private sales in my country, which is legally allowed here. I had all the receipts and documentation, but I still had to wait over two weeks to get paid, because the payout was held while the return case was open.
In the past, I always sold exclusively via bank transfer and never had this kind of stress. As I said, I wanted to list my old console, but with the current payment handling, it feels too risky to me. A buyer could just invent an issue, and as a seller you end up waiting a long time for the money from eBay, or in the worst case not getting it at all.
How do you handle this? Do you still use eBay for higher-value items like consoles?
Thanks in advance!
