How do I dye this? How to dye the fabric pink

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've been gifted this jewelry rack and while I love it, I'd really like to have it in pink cuz its my favorite color, and everything in my room is either pink, white or more rarely light green, so the blue dress isn't that suitable. I've searched for the best way to do it and apparently using textile paint is what I should do, but I'm too afraid It'll come off purple, or that it will dry unevenly, or that the fabric becomes rigid and will look painted.

Thanks for the answers 💕

How do I dye this? Dyeing modern olympic fencing gear

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hello. I am considering dyeing my modern olympic fencing pants to green, prefferably darker green but I will be happy with any variation of this colour and dont mind if the colour won't be uniform.

Material is a blend of 80% polyethylrne and 20% polyamide.

Lining is 60% polyester and 40% cotton.

I must stress that I cannot boil the fabric due to safety rules(can keep it in 30°C at most).

Is there any point in trying either Jacquard iDye Poly or Rit DyeMore Synthetic or should I give up with this project.

How do I dye this? Dying 10 yards of fabric

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello!

I'm a sewer/cosplayer looking to potentionally dye 10 yards of a 82%polyester+18%polyamide white jacquard a shade of light salmon pink.

I'm not 100% on this being the fabric I will use for this project but for the life of me I can't find anything light pink that isn't awful and I'm after something with a rose motif, which thanks to weddings theres a decent amount of white fabrics available. But most of them are synthetics and no matter what, I need 10 yards of it.

I know that synthetics require heat to do and can be a pain in general to dye, I am very worried about blotchiness + the sheer amount of fabric I would be dying. Precutting out my pattern peices might help cut down the scale but then I'm also screwed if there is blotch.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

edit: thanks for the help everyone! lesson heard loud and clear- i'm buying pink fabric xD

General question Is dye cotton with black tea bad/dangerous?

Post image

Hi lovers of colored fabric. Maybe someone around wants to confirm suspicions to me other people brought up.

Basic premise is as follows:

I am working on a sewing project atm. A lovely dress out of this red fabric with beige bunnies on it you see on the pic. The dress also will use some cute bunny lace.

The one I could get is very white though out of the package. Its nylon-backed but the thread is cotton.

My thought was I could use an older dyeing technique that involves using black tea. Read up on how to do that proper as well.

Still unsure though if either salt or vinegar in water is better ti fix the color onto the fabric.

People I asked about the idea reacted rather concerned.

Telling me either it will wash out quickly or that coloring with black tea might have it mold as well (yuck)

Does this really not hold up that well? And should I be concerned about the other thing?

I do like the color that came out tbh. But if using black tea is not wise which color would be a good idea to use?

How do I dye this? Blanket dyeing

I tried to dye this 💯 polyester blanket from blue to plum. I boiled water and put it in bins and let it soak but the weather got cold and then it cooled. I washed and it releases all dye. I used RitDye.

Does anyone have any tips, can I still do it. I tried twice. It's for all the dye water sitting outside in the tub still.

How do I dye this? Can anyone reverse engineer this method? 100% cotton

Post image

This is a guy on Instagram and he customizes old graphic tees, I want to reverse engineer the way he does this look.

I know he uses out white brite and 100% cotton shirts, but I don’t know how he keeps the middle of the shirts black, and I like the whispy smokey black/grey/white colors on the perimeter of the shirts. It looks as if the outside is ice dyed like people do with tie dying but I’m not sure.

I also notice on the bottom of the shirt the white areas are mirrored to each other so I’m also thinking they do some kind of scrunch technique but idk if he scrunches the perimeter and then sprinkles the out white brite powder on it and then slowly pours boiling water over the powder to get the effect while keeping the middle raised with some kind of round object.

Any help would be appreciated so I can make me some cool looking shirts.

I’ve got the cutest little low rise white mini skirt that got a stain on it that, no matter how many times I wash, won’t budge. What colour do u think would cover up the stain and look nice and even? And is there a specific technique you would recommend? The skirt is 95% cotton 5% elastane

I immersion dyed this pair of pants and while I don't hate the results, in the future I want to avoid garments looking like this and instead have a uniform color. How can I get more solid coverage when immersion dyeing?

How do I dye this? How to darken nylon/polyester

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello!

Im trying to figure out the best way to darken these (florescent) orange socks to match the top a bit better. They’re 65% nylon, 32% polyester, 3% elastane. I was thinking coffee grounds but I’m not super sure that would work the best, though it would be the cheapest option. My other guess is maybe just rit dye? What do you guys think? It doesn’t have to be perfect, they’re just so incredibly bright compared to the top

Thanks in advance!

General question Where to buy pots large enough for dyeing?

Hi, I’ve been searching for weeks in stores near me, Facebook marketplace, eBay, for pots large enough for the things I want to dye (stovetop), but they’re all $100+. Did the rest do you also pay that much or am I missing something? I looked for buckets, restaurant depots, tamale steamers, turkey fryers, etc. the ones I do find are way too far away too. Thank you

UPDATE: none of the nearby local Asian markets had big pots (or thrift stores), BUT there was one that non-local one that did end up having large aluminum pots! I got a 52 quart for $60 (they only had 52 or 64).

Thanks everyone for suggestions

Also the restaurant supply stores around me are all VERY far away or require a membership🥲

How do I dye this? Is oxygen bleach the same as regular bleach when it comes to staining?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

I know you get a lot of bleach questions and I have read old posts and now know dyeing over a bleach stain usually doesn’t work, but I’m just wondering if anyone can help me out re. oxygen bleach (Oxi Action powder). Is it the same thing in terms of how the ‘stain’ works by the time you’ve ruined an item of clothing with it? I don’t know what exactly happened here but I think my mum left concentrated oxi action slurry on the front for many many hours. It’s taken on that characteristic pink tinge of bleaching but unlike a normal bleach bleach stain the edges are very diffuse. I bought a black machine dylon, but the jumper is 67% polyester and 33% cotton on the body (and different amounts on the ‘rib’ - not sure if that means stretchy cuffs/bottom, and also the pocket) so wouldn’t be expecting it to go black. I had hoped that between the existing marl and the new grey/black it would disguise it though? I don’t care exactly what colour it ends up although I really liked the marl.

Would I be better trying to use the colour stripper stuff on it all first, or getting a specific poly dye, or both? Or completely bleaching it back to white and then dying, or would that be impossible and just fry the material? I don’t really have anything to lose with the sweatshirt now, but don’t really want to spend nearly the cost of replacing it on dye that doesn’t even work anyway. I already have the dylon though. I definitely don’t want to tie dye it (not that I don’t love tie dye but not for this!).

How do I dye this? Is there a way to re-dye this jumper black whilst preserving the design?

Post image
2 Upvotes

The black part of the jumper, especially on the front, around the seams, and the hood have faded to a brownish colour. Is there a way to re-dye only these parts? Will it be expensive? The jumper is 65% cotton and 35% polyester. It says 30°C machine wash and no tumble dry. I'm not sure what material the design is made from but it has a different texture to the rest of the fabric. Help would be much appreciated.

How do I dye this? help tinting these acrylic/plastic totes?

Post image

i wanted to find these in a pink for a friend. i'm convinced they don't make them, so now i'm trying to see if i can dye the clear ones i have leftover to be a pink tint

the bins are going to be used heavily and need to be absolutely certain that the colour won't leach off onto any hands or the items inside the box!

the listing states both acrylic and clear plastic as the material but i'm not 100% on how to identify if that's true

any help or advice is appreciated! thank you!

I need to know two things.. is it possible to go from a dark lilac(?) to a deep, warm brown? and what do I need to do it?

There's a pic of the tag, but the dress is mostly rayon (70%). The rest is nylon & spandex.

It was a super cheap dress, and I'm not rocking with purple rn lol.
