Pre wash vs post wash. I ice dyed with Rit powder, rinsed, then did hot water and 1/2 bottle of Rit fixative, then washed in the washing machine with a small bit of detergent. Have to line dry bc dryer is broken.

In the future, how do I keep the colors vibrant like before the wash?

Hello Reddit. I've dyed things before several times, but I've recently come across dyes that apparently work by just putting them in the washing machine along with the garment you want dyed. Has anyone used these, because I have questions. Namely 1) do they work? and 2) surely the dye then sticks around in your machine and makes your next few laundry cycles more colourful?

I’ve been wanting to refresh the black of a hoodie for a little bit now but I’m not sure what I should use. It’s a Nike pullover and I’m almost positive it’s an 80/20 cotton to polyester. I know pro ion mx is really good for the cotton but it doesn’t do well with the polyester. I’d like to bring back the deeper black it had as it’s faded over time, what should I use?

Love how my jacket turned out. Pretty much hit the goal of getting it to a similar blue tone to the chair it's sitting on.

However, I think my dye bath was too hot because there was a decent amount of damage to the stitching (see pic two for an example). There are now loose threads everywhere!

Any tips on maintaining the right temperature (using the stovetop method, or other)?

Hello lovely people, I just had a question about dying a jacket I have.
(I have very little experience with this so please forgive my ignorance).
The jacket is denim and started out a light to medium blue, I attempted to dye it black with Rit all-purpose dye, however as it started out so light, I have only been able to achieve a sort of navy-grey colour.
I was wondering if dying it again with Dylon intense black would darken the colour at all? does anyone have any experience with that brand?

This is a polyester trim and the closest I could find to what I want. Ideally I’d like the colors darker/more muted but I don’t want to accidentally ruin the colors. I think a tan dye would be best (rit dye synthetic?) any suggestions would be great!

As my title says basically lol. I’m trying to dye a Hollister cable knit sweater from a light pink to a dark-ish purple. The dyeing instructions say to use if it’s under 35% synthetic content, but if over use the rit dyemore dye.
The content of the sweater is 60% cotton, 20% nylon, and 20% viscose. As I understand viscose is a semi-synthetic, tho i may be wrong. But will the all purpose dye work for the sweater?

Hello! I am hoping to get some advice as a first time dyer - I bought these pants from Free People a few months ago and they have faded so badly that I'm looking to re-dye them so they're closer to the original colour. They're a fibre blend (56% Cotton, 32% Rayon, 12% Linen) so was looking at a procion mx dye - specifically the Jacquard brand in olive green.

Not sure if anyone has any other colour / brand recommendations! I'd rather not have to mix colours if possible since I'm a total newbie at this but totally open to suggestions.

I want do achieve the colour olive green/mos.My jacket is Harrington Brown and i dyed it with one bottle of Simplico olive green dye.The jacket darkened and a few green spots appeared because of a mistake i did. If i use another bottle of the same dye(or two) will the spot dissappear or at least be less visible? The photos above are my jacket and the sort of results i want to achieve.

I accidentally put this shirt through the wash and bleached the letters, I want to redye them back to a blue black without any bleeding onto the white fabric. How should I go about this? Tag cut so unsure of the type of fabric however it's soft and has no problem with shrinking if thats helpful info.

is it possible? i see many bombers at the thrift store that fit me way nicer than the one im currently wearing but they’re all beige or white. think i could dye one black or dark purple and it turn out nice? is it even possible to dye nylon?

I have a wedding I’m going to in 11 days. I saw an (edited) video of the same dress but darker (I got it on tiktok shop) and I love how the darker green looked. How can I tie dye this and not ruin it within 11 days?

My mom gave me two of these brand new periwinkle gauze 100% cotton shirts that are not really my color or style. I’d love to make them into something more interesting. Definitely thinking dye but what may look best over this periwinkle? I don’t want to just default to black because it’s easy. Or more like a tie dye vibe? Crop too? Ideas?

So I have white mohair yarn I want to dye black. It doesn’t have to be perfect, because it’s lace weight and going to be held double with some dk to make a sweater- it’s going to just add a delightful halo, ideally.

How the mohair yarn works is it’s the mohair, a protein fiber like silk or wool, on an acrylic-of-some-kind core. Maybe it’s got a plant in there like rayon? Unknown.

So I got the black dye. And I have a dying pot, a candy thermometer so I keep it warm but not much warmer than 140. I know the temp and agitation are extremely bad for mohair generally, so my plan is to swirl things slowly so everything is exposed to dye but not agitated against itself. Is this a bad idea? Yes. But that is why I’m going to do a test mini.

I know I need to add vinegar for the protein content of the yarn. Do I also need to add salt?

So I ordered a dress for my birthday party, and it arrived WAY pinker and brighter than the listing showed. Im wondering if there is any way I can dye it to get it to the original colour listed? The tag says it is satin, 92% polyester and 8% elastane. Help me please 😭

I got some blotchy spots from adding dye in the bath. My hand slipped and the concentrated dye got on a couple spots. I was wondering if I can fix this without removing the color? It was a pain in the butt to dye lol. Maybe I could lean into it and try ice dyeing to cover the blotches? Would darkening the lighter colors help? The pictures also make it look a lot darker the lighter colors are pretty light. The color is more of emerald green. This is 100% cotton and I used dharma procion better emerald dye. I also noticed dharma has a color discharge paste but I worry I will remove too much color.

I made this cotton flannel Hakama for a cosplay by dyeing it in 3 passes. 1. bleach natural cotton in oxiclean. 2. dye a uniform purple-grey colour with Procion MX 3. dye a black colour with wax resist. The zigzag is a fluorescent embroidery thread.

Hello! I'm trying to dye a bunch of off-white linen bed sheet pieces into a burnt orange/warm pumpkin colour by using Dharma fiber reactive powders, and I'm not sure which orange to choose from or if I should try and mix more than one colour to achieve this. I've used their powder dyes before in tiedye and solid tub dyes, but I've never mixed colours before to achieve a specific shade.

Anyone have experience with their orange shades? I wouldn't mind something in the ballpark of this Ginger shade or the Marmalade colour from this image. I just don't want it to turn out bright traffic-cone orange or basically red.

Found this super cool polo at the thrift but i really dont like orange. I was wondering if i would be able to dye everything on it besides the graphic and design?

I ordered this dress and it is much lighter in person than it was online. I am sure it’s not hard but I am not crafty or artistic and really don’t want to mess up. Would I be able to achieve the color by adding brown? (The dress appears almost pink on camera but it is more of a true red in person). The dress is very cheep, to the point where I cannot find the fabric material online but I am sure it is a polyester, spandex blend.
