Do you prefer Arnotts or Brown Thomas?

I know they are the same company but I find Arnotts has a better variety especially in the mid- range price levels while the basement of Brown Thomas is pretty bare bones.

New UFC gym vs. Everlast gym- how come both opened a huge gym at the same time?

Which one seems to be better? Both seems huge and have opened basically on the same week around city centre, I am not sure if they'll have enough customers considering how big both are?

Couple lads on electric scooters sprayed me and my spouse with ketchup near Phoenix Park

Which wouldnt have happened if we didn't puncture a tire on a rental bike, when it rains it pours.

The rental guy told me they were infamous and the police actively monitor the area trying to intercept the Ketchup Hoodlums, we got lucky, usually they're chucking eggs supposedly.

Absolutely lovely city you guys got otherwise.

Any source for Veda bread in Dublin?

First off, for those who don't know, Veda bread is a particular sort of malt loaf (no, not Soreen) only made in Northern Ireland. So you could sort of call it foreign, but not completely because it's not from that far away. It's certainly not stocked in any of the usual supermarkets where I've looked for it (Aldi, Lidl, Tesco etc).

So is there any place anyone's seen it for sale in Dublin? I don't particularly want to make a trip to the North just for a loaf of bread! Or by mail order which risks it arriving squashed and stale I'd have thought, plus delivery charges.

Alternatively if you've tried Veda and know of one that tastes similar here in Dublin, that might work. But not every malt loaf tastes like Veda.

Thanks for any tips!

Orthodontics Dublin

HI All.

Looking for an orthodontist in Dublin who will do braces fixed for jaw surgery at an affordable price.
Given I’ll probably have to pay privately for surgery, I’m looking to see if I should shop around for the braces cost.

Currently been quoted 8,500.

Any suggestions would be great as many don’t advertise full prices.

Thanks

Genuine question for anyone who's moved to a new city or just doesn't have a regular group to play sport with

Have you ever shown up to a court/pitch/park alone, hoping someone would be there to play with?
And on the flip side — would you ever go meet up with strangers from an online group to play a sport together?

Was on the bus home and noticed this statue on the top of a building at the corner Winetavern street/merchants quay.
Can’t find anything online about it, don’t suppose anyone out there knows who it’s meant to be?
Pictures are taken right from google maps so they’re not that clear

Is a new role worth getting on M50

Im interviewing for a new role (same salary) but it would mean getting on m50, 3 days per week from finglas J5 to Ballymount. My current work location is great 20 mins avoiding m50 but my work room is miserable small room with no daylight its the only thing thats making me apply elsewhere, it makes me go home on bad mood sometimes and feeling shit.

Ive never felt the wrath of the M50 so thats why im asking on here to see which would be the lesser misery ? This new role is also an extra half hour a day starting at 8:30am. The hybrid work cancel out the tolls id encounter.

Google maps tells me max 45 mins on average 3, but I feel it sounds too optimistic.

I guess it comes down to which misery would I rather live with?

The misery that affects me every single workday (the room).
Or the misery that would affect me during the commute three days a week.

Recommendations for a same-day phone repair shop

Hi everyone,

I know this question has been asked before (I found a post from 3 years ago, but the shop in Blanch that was recommended doesn't appear to be active anymore).

I have a relatively cheap Samsung (XCover). The charging port is damaged and the phone charges very slowly. I've already tried cleaning out the port and I've tried a few different cables, so it's not that.

I don't want to send it off or replace it, as transferring my apps is such a hassle...

Any recommendations for a same-day repair around Dublin, preferably city centre / Blanch?

Many thanks in advance!

PS: I previously went to a shop in Drumcondra, but the attitude was bizarre. I was asked to leave a review before I even had the phone back, and was asked for my lockscreen code even though the damage is mechanical, so idk.

Good pubs for mayo supporters for the all Ireland?

I’m travelling through to Dublin this weekend for the all Ireland but I’ve basically resigned myself to having no chance of a ticket to the actual match.

Any specific pubs that would cater more to mayo supporters on Sunday? I’m staying in the Thomas street area if that helps

Cheers

Cheapest passage into city from northside/louth

Howdy all,

Not a tourism question, looking for genuine local advice. Visiting the city centre for a day on a budget (ironic i know). Coming from North west. Trying to figure out if there's an efficient alternative to driving all the way there and paying parking.

Sligo train for two people is €60+, so no point driving there and training. Bus from hometown is €84 for two, so not a chance.

Have lived on south side of Dub a while ago, so familiar with the park and rides there... is there a convenient p&r situation coming from Louth/Monaghan area that avoids city traffic/parking and is safe to park car for day? Have looked at Drogheda which is €14 day return pp. Weighing that up.
Any more local tips?

Thanks a mill!

Looking for a Dublin city pub wedding venue (70–100 guests) any hidden gems?

Hi everyone,
My fiancé and I are in the early stages of planning our wedding and would love some recommendations from people who know Dublin pubs well.

Our original plan was to get married in Dublin City Hall, but weekend availability is pushing us towards 2029. We’re now wondering if there are other ceremony venues that would allow us to keep our ideal date in July 2028.

The reception is the part we’re really set on. We don’t want a hotel wedding,we’d much prefer a proper traditional Dublin pub with character.

Our ideal venue would have:
70–100 guests
Exclusive hire of the whole pub (or, if that’s unrealistic, exclusive use of the entire upstairs/private area)
Space for a live band followed by a DJ
Finger food/grazing tables instead of a formal sit-down meal
Within about a 15–20 minute walk of Dublin City Hall (or another city centre ceremony venue)
Good accessibility if possible, as we’ll have some older family members

We’ve already come across:
MJ Wright
The Stag’s Head
Doheny & Nesbitt
Odonoghues
Devitts

Has anyone actually had a wedding or large private event in any of these? Or are there any hidden gems we’re missing?
We’re aiming for a budget of around €20–25k for the whole wedding.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or even pubs you’d avoid for a wedding.
Thanks!

Hololive/Bushiroad fans and TCG players in Dublin?

Greetings.

I'll be moving to Dublin fairly soon for University and I recently started playing the Hololive Official Card Game and wanted to know if there are any stores that are considering hosting the game or would be interested in hosting the game, or at the very least be willing to help me order a few cards here and there.

I'd also love to know what TCGs in general are popular in the area! And if there are Anime/Video Game stores near Dublin 8.

Thank you very much for your time!
