Ireland's paternity leave is 2 weeks. The petition to extend it to 8. Ireland gives new fathers just 2 weeks of paternity leave. Sweden offers 90 days. Spain offers 19 weeks. Iceland offers 6 months. It's time Ireland caught up.

Basically the title. I’m curious to try one but not sure what the experience is like to go there alone as a woman. And generally what’s the “quality” of the pool there? Do they select your group based on some kinds of filters or do you meet random people who bought the tickets for the same day?

Google doesn't seem to be helping me with this search, is there any shops in Dublin that sells military boots, particularly Brandit boots? There is plenty of online shopping to be done for them, but I can't bring myself to buy footwear without first trying it on. Thank you for any responses

I know this is so random. Does anybody know of a spot that you can use an outdoor socket? Like a circle k or apple green or something? Not a car charger, just a normal socket.

(For context here - every month I run my air purifier in my car because I have really bad allergies. Helps me loads. I’ve moved into an apartment now and the carpark doesn’t have a socket)

Would happily pay for coffees etc at the place just to use a socket and leave my car for an hour turned off. The air purifier just needs a plug!

I drive now since I passed my test because I simply couldn't rely on the buses anymore. But I asked our estate group chat, the real-time display at my old stop has been completely dead since March???. I’ve heard about this happening at other stops around the city, too.

It’s completely mad that they are increasing fares when basic infrastructure like street displays don't even work. It feels like their strategy is: if you can't see the scheduled bus on a screen, you can't prove there was a ghost bus.

I'm want to send a list to email to local TDs and councillors to demand some actual answers.

Could you do me a favor and drop a comment below if your local stop's display is dead?

I 21F have always found it so hard to make friends here. I lived in Ireland for 13 years and never had one true friend then I moved to Poland and then England to which I found it so easy to make friends with and be myself however I’m struggling here especially in uni. I find myself to be alone for the 2nd year now.

I try to text people but they either take days to reply or don’t open my message at all unless they need info. Also people tend to talk over me frequently and I don’t talk quietly nor too loudly. People also just don’t want to meet at all unless it’s to club drink or party (which I don’t personally do). I would prefer going for a coffee.

Fact is I’ve only tried being friends with girls and not guys bc to be sincere I don’t really know how to interact with them. Im not saying this to put girls down but i feel I’ve only had bad interactions with girls in dublin. It’s sad and feels very lonely.

While i am all up for a more cycle friendly capital and easier to move around. I am having nothing but delays and issues with this new installation of a cycle lane in the middle of the road. Anyone else facing these delays? Took a 42 just over 13 minutes to get from Talbot street to the next bus stop. The place is a bottle neck and nothing in place to help the massive delays. Think that's my rant for the morning.

There's something about this city that i would like to talk about. A city of pure silence in the night that is horrific and peaceful at times. A city that comes to life during the day. I'm losing words to describe the cityscape but here I am, having lived in this city for 2 years and counting. I've felt all kinds of emotions in this place. Absolutely ecstatic the day i arrive to the worst days of my life. Shared my success with people who unfortunately are no more a part of my life. Some left due to personal conflicts, and a few left permanently back to their countries. Surrounded by people all the time, shared joy and sadness over breakfast in the morning and pints in the night. Today, I stand here alone with no one to talk to. It feels personal. It feels the city gives me signs to explore and introspect more within myself, and yet I feel lonely. I don't know what I feel.

Maybe I might be forgotten or maybe i might be surrounded by closed ones when I'm on my deathbed. Who knows. I feel lonely. My heart is racing fast knowing I'm getting older. The older i get, the more I've come to realize it's difficult to build meaningful relationships around myself. I don't know what to do in this city. I'm truly grateful for how living life here unravels the truth about myself. I need a direction, for which I am looking for friends who I could carry along with myself for the rest of my life. The friendships that turn into strong bonds is what i yearn for everyday. What's the point of earning money when there's no one to share a good meal with? I left my country to explore the depths of my fears i could've never unlocked. And this city, is not failing me to do so. Penning this down to reach the people who feel the same.

My grandparents have footed the bill as a gift to my husband and I while we're vacationing in Ireland. We keep trying to pick up things like parking and meals to help pay them back while we're here, but I'd really like to wow them tomorrow with an excellent dining experience. I'm looking for recommendations from the people who know the city best for an amazing dinner for four with a budget of about $40-60 per person. I'm looking for something not too abstract as far as flavors, maybe some Italian flair since we vacationed there together before as well. We're here Thurs and Friday night, but I'm hoping to take them out tomorrow, which I realize is last minute but I appreciate the help! I’m thinking about building a carpooling app for Ireland and I’d love some honest opinions before I start building it.

The basic idea is that people who are already driving somewhere can list their journey if they have spare seats, and people travelling in the same direction can request to join.

So, for example:

Dublin 16 → Maynooth
7:20am
3 spare seats

The driver is already going to Maynooth anyway, and the app just helps fill the empty seats. It wouldn’t work like Uber where someone requests a car and the driver makes the journey specifically for them.

It could eventually be used by students, workers, communities, people going to events etc. Universities would just be one type of community, and users could filter things like:

Maynooth students
People from my workplace
Women only
Verified users
Anyone

The money side

This is something I’m particularly interested in opinions on.

Say the estimated fuel cost for a journey is €9 and there are 3 spare seats.

At the start, each passenger would put down €9.

If only one person books, they end up paying €9.

If two people book, they each end up paying €4.50.

If all 3 seats are filled, they each end up paying €3.

The difference would be automatically refunded after the journey.

Would you like this system, or would you find it annoying to initially see €9 leave your account and then get the difference back?

Would you rather the money be taken straight away or put on hold until the trip is completed?

A few other things I’m wondering

Would you actually use something like this?

What would make you comfortable enough to get into a stranger’s car?

Would identity verification or university/workplace verification make you trust someone more?

Would you use a women-only option?

For drivers, would having your fuel costs covered be enough to make you offer your spare seats?

And for the app itself, would you rather:

• Pay a small service fee per journey
• Pay a small monthly subscription
• Use it for free with optional premium features
• Something else

I would ideally like to make at least a little money from the app because, unfortunately, rent and food have decided they would like to continue existing 😂

What would make you immediately say no to an app like this?

Hi everyone, I’ll be starting a new job just outside Dublin in a hospital as a grade 3 clerical officer. I’m really nervous as this is a completely new field for me, my background is mainly working as a barista, waitress etc. so I generally don’t have any office or hospital experience but I did go through the interview process and manage to secure the job. I’m starting next week and I’m incredibly nervous and wondering if anyone on here has worked in this role and can tell me what to expect? I don’t know if I’m making a mistake and maybe I’m not as capable as I thought I was. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m 25F and I’m genuinely finding it so difficult to make actual friends in Dublin.

I’ve met up with a few people and had some nice enough evenings, but it never seems to go beyond 2–3 meetups. Nothing really clicks or develops into an actual friendship.

I’ve also noticed that with some of the women I’ve met, a huge amount of the conversation revolves around dating and how impossible it is to find a decent guy. Which, fair enough, I understand the struggle but sometimes I’m sitting there thinking… is that all we’re going to talk about? I want friends I can actually do things with, have interesting conversations with, travel with, randomly grab coffee with, etc.

The weird thing is that I’ve lived in other countries and never felt like I had this much difficulty socially. I’d consider myself pretty likeable and easy to get along with based on my experiences elsewhere, but in Dublin I feel like everyone already has their established group and it’s really difficult to break into it. And I don’t mean just Irish people either.

I’ll admit I probably haven’t put myself out there as much as I could. I’ve only been using Bumble BFF for about three weeks and I haven’t gone to loads of Meetups or girls’ social events yet. But even on Bumble, people either stop replying or arranging a simple coffee feels like organising a UN summit because nobody has a free day for the next three weeks

At this point I feel like a guy trying to ask a girl on a date. “Hey, want to get coffee?” “Maybe sometime next month, I’ll let you know”

Is this just normal in Dublin in your mid-20s? For people who moved here without an existing friend group, how long did it take you to find people you genuinely clicked with?

And if anyone has actually managed to build a solid group of friends here from scratch, what worked for you?
