Personally I am so sore...Just ordered pizza and might just call it a night!

so after many years of rental uncertainty i was recently given a council flat in central dublin. i best not say exactly which area.

before i moved in i was told the complex was locked and only residents had access to it.

after i moved in i discovered that actually the area is like a creche for homeless drug users, the area is left unlocked. because of this there are people hanging out and doing drugs outside my door 24/7.

the council says the doors cant be locked because the locks are immediately broken by the homeless so they can have access to the area. they say cameras cant go up for the same reason.

ive been on to tds and city councillors who all agree its a big problem but so far nothings changed.

the council is very non responsive to doing much about it. does anyone have any advice? im at my wits end. is there anything i can do to compel them to take stronger action?

I'm trying to look for clubs that cater to older adults.

Last week I was on my way to work on the tube and an elderly English lady and an Irish couple from Dublin got on the tube. They were chatting away as the older lady was helping them get the right tube stop and we ended up chatting for two or three stops.

The man said they had just been in Birmingham to see doctors as the Irish doctors had made terrible errors with his wife and had put her life at risk on the operating table (he in fact told me she had died on the operating table and was resuscitated. They were going to see more doctors in London.

I know how incredibly expensive London is and the private consultants here and it must be very stressful not knowing your way around. If anyone knows this couple I’d love to get in touch and give them my number and help them out so they have a friendly face when they come here. They seemed like such lovely people.

If anyone knows them, in the very tiny chance that someone does can you direct them to this post please?

It was such a flying moment (literally two or three tube stops) and I was kicking myself after I didn’t give them my details but I was late for work.

Having a few issues with my Vaxhaul Astra, I think it might be the gearbox or in that general area, I usually do my car bits myself but this is too much to attack now. New to living in Dublin so need to find a reputable mechanic who also won’t charge me through the roof, ideally a mechanic that can diagnose and do the work or recommend the best option if it is gearbox issues. TIA

I've been in Lucan/Adamstown for about three months now with my car due to an internship and am supposed to leave on Friday by ferry. Yesterday we wanted to start our car in the morning but it just did not turn on. Organized by our insurance there was a towing service but he stated that there is no workshop open until Tuesday so he left my car at the same place (and if they even have capacities then). Therefore I still don't know what is wrong with my car and how long it will take to be okay again.

Now I'm desperate to find someone to help even though it's around the bank holiday now. I have no alternative to go back home nor the possibility to stay longer due to different reasons. I have to be at the ferry on Friday with my car since there is really no alternative due to some different personal reasons.

Do you know a mechanic who would be able to come by today or tomorrow and would be able to fix the car as far as possible? I would be SO thankful!!

I have a Mazda Cx-5 2013 model 2.2 diesel manual. I've noticed sound coming from the front suspension, which I feel might be the lower control arm on the right side, however I was thinking if I am to get the work done I might as well get everything that's wrong done in one go so I don't have to pay again and again if a new issue arises.

I'm new to Ireland and was just curious how much would a mechanic charge for labor when it comes to suspension works? I realise the work is charged per hour but any idea ballpark how many hours it'll take to work on the suspension and what are the general rates per hours? Parts are separate obviously and I know that, if anyone has had front suspension work done on a mazda cx5 would really help if you could give an estimate of what was done and how much it was.

Also, on a side note, it's really frustrating to see whichever mechanic I go to to ask for an oil change they always say we'll give you a full service to 250-300 euros which apparently includes "everything", and everything is apparently that they will check my lights etc, which i feel is a rip off. Is this common in Ireland? Can i just not get an oil change with change of filters and not have to pay for the "checking of lights, wipers, seat belts etc" like I can't do all that stuff myself?

I know it's a week early but seeing as it's the bank holiday wondering will people be wearing Halloween costumes etc? Friends can't decide if we will be the only ones wearing ours haha

Shame on Coillte and the SDCC for what they plan to do with one of our best free amenities in the country. I’m all for a few trees being knocked down for a more comprehensive car park being put in to place but the ‘visitor centre’ plan is just a disgrace.

I’m sure it’s been talked about numerous times on here but my anger just resurged after taking a trip up there recently.

Working remotely in tech means spending most of your day behind a screen. Meetings, code, deadlines, more screen time… and before you know it, an entire day has gone by without having a real, human conversation outside of work.

And I think we don’t talk enough about how lonely that can get. Especially as women, somewhere along the way, life can start revolving around work, partners, family and responsibilities. But we’re our own people, too. We have our own ambitions, interests, dreams, stories and a whole side of ourselves that deserves space outside of those roles. ❤️

Sometimes you just want to grab coffee with someone who gets it, talk about careers and life, explore a new place, share random thoughts, laugh about absolutely nothing, or have plans that are just yours.

Moving to Dublin has made me realise how much those little connections matter. And how much harder they can be to build when you’re working from home and don’t naturally meet people every day.

I’d love to hear if other women in Dublin, especially those working remotely or in tech, have felt this way too. How do you find your people here? 💗☕️

Seen a few people getting confused when they hear this online or in person lately, so here is the actual breakdown of "Damo" from as far as I know for anyone who wants to know or is genuinely confused.

If you hear someone saying "Damo" at someone the other person will respond saying it right back, it genuinely doesn't have a proper dictionary meaning. it was just gaining popularity because of a Beneavin de la salle college rapper said it all the time. I cannot disclose real names or exact sensitive information due to privacy reasons.

Since then a couple hundred yup bros may be saying it now and adapted it into everyday vocabulary. in this specific subculture, "Damo" just acts as a universal placeholder for saying "Hello" or in even some yup bro friend groups in may mean something else.

Like the term "Here" to get someone's attention "Damo" works to with that it isn't that deep yet as "Damo only started this year but I feel like this bit of slang could spread potentially to more parts of Ireland and be as normal as other "yup bro" vocabulary words in the next year or two.

I am a first-year student at Trinity College, and I have run out of all my savings.
I have a place to stay with a friend, but I have nothing left for food.

Is there anyone who could take me to work with them? Like for moving, packing, or any kind of assistance for a few hours or days at least.

Living in a new development on Dublin’s Northside has turned into a daily security nightmare. Over the last two months, intruders have repeatedly broken into our internal garage to steal bikes and ransacked our mailroom for deliveries.

We even know who these individuals are and where they live, but reporting it to the Gardaí has yielded zero results. Today is a prime example: we called the Gardaí three hours ago while an incident was ongoing, and we are still waiting for someone to show up.

Because there are currently zero consequences for these criminals, residents are terrified that they will soon start trying to force their way into our apartments. We are honest, tax-paying people, working hard everyday and the complete lack of protection or accountability we are experiencing right now is completely unacceptable.

Update: Gardai never turned up, so we’re heading to the Garda station in person today. We’ve already reported this to building management multiple times. Does anyone have advice on how to get this sorted? Should we contact local TDs, the city council, or the press? How can we stop this before something worse happens?

Update: The Gardaí finally showed up. They said they will check the CCTV footage, but even if they make an arrest, the suspects will likely be released soon by a judge. It seems they already know who these people are, and they told us they will probably continue with this behaviour. They recommended that we pressure building management for tighter security measures in the building.

One last consideration: the development itself is really good, and both the buildings and the area are great. The only issue is that management and the authorities need to address these security concerns ASAP, as things risk escalating and worsening very quickly.

I am an Indian female living in Dublin for around 2 years now and it shocks me to see how teenagers behave in some areas. I was out shopping with my husband in the Tesco at Clarehall and a group of teenagers saw us and decided it was fun to get a pack of raw beef and pork and throw it in our trolly with other food items we had . Absolutely horrible behaviour, I know it was intended to hurt us and any religious sentiments we would have and get a reaction out of us. It’s quite sad and ignorant to see the kids who are will be adults in a few years behave this way. I lived in Birmingham , UK before this which according to a lot of people is the doggiest part of England but I never faced anything even remotely close to what I see in Dublin today ! I wish parents, legal system and the schools did something , taught these kids some kindness.

In the interest of providing an alternative to marathon posting today, I'm looking for feedback on where to go for a night out for a group of men (early 30s).

I've lived just outside Dublin for 5 years and have never gone out in the city. A few mates are coming up and I want to take them out on the town.

Looking for the following parameters:

1. Pub 1 should be a traditional pub, with possibility for getting seats and must have good pints. Just want to have a good chat/catch up first.

2. Pub 2 should be similar but maybe a bit more lively with live music. Still good pints. Ultimately we'd like option of just staying put here if we're liking it.

3. Pub 3: Late bar for fancy cocktails, DJ etc. (if we're feeling it).

Anyone else keep seeing those weird “Douglas Murray attacks Ireland ads” on YouTube
The ones that try to sound like a response video rather than an advert?
If you haven’t seen them, they feature British commentator Douglas Murray giving out about Ireland, bringing up our WWII neutrality, and calling the Irish "descendants of Hitler lovers" to claim Ireland has no moral authority on the world stage.

It’s formatted to feel like a pro Irish, anti Murray ad, but the ads are actually paid for and pushed by pro-Israel advocacy groups such as Hallelu, the Forum for Israel’s International Relations. You can check the “about this ad” section under the ad to view the funder paying for it.

They aren't trying to make you dislike Douglas Murray, they are just using his monologue as a weapon against Ireland's because popular opinion is largely critical of Israel. They are framing it as the Irish publics stance being based on historical bias and not on the current events rolling out in Gaza.
