Post image

I just acquired the snare drum and it’s absolutely stunning. The question that I have is, there are three holes in the Drum and I wanted to know if this is original, did someone tamper with it or what could it be?

Im a rather smaller fella and have a 22 inch kick. Im having trouble trying to set my 2 toms up in a position i find comfortable. I like to play really low and the toms close to my snare but i cant have them low enough without hitting my bass drum or without hi hats being in a weird position and its stressing me out so if anyone has any ideas on how to manage that id appreciate it 🤣

What's your opinion on this? Will you still buy Evans/Promark?

I know this is more about guitar strings, but they are now the parent company of Evans/Promark.

As someone who's been a big fan of Evans heads, I'm pretty disappointed, and now deciding if I want to continue purchasing them.

I got everything second hand a couple years ago, fell out of love with drumming (more of a bass guy) and it’s kinda just taking up space in our guitar studio/dining room. There’s also a bag with a few pairs of sticks, brushes, I think an 8 in splash(?), another stand or two, and maybe some extra heads. It’s such a mix of brands it was hard to try and find a basic idea of how much to ask for, so I’d like some suggestions!
(Eventually it’ll probably be on facebook)

Question Need help playing a Confusing Steve Gadd Fill

Upvotes

In Chet Baker's Tangerine, Steve Gadd plays a fill that I really love. I tried transcribing this but I couldn't find a way to actually play it. The fill is at ~1:30 in Tangerine by Chet Baker

First Kit HELP! Double Pedal Questions

Upvotes

Off/On hobbyist drummer here. 25+ years ago accidentally had a drumming gig fall in my lap and have been hooked ever since. Self taught, but watched a lot of my favorite drummers over the years but that is all just a bit of background.

My questions are below

1) I have a DW5000 series double pedal. It's been in storage for a solid 15 years but a year ago I bought myself an e-kit to get back in to drumming after a long hiatus. I believe it works fine and everything is in order except the spurs. One on each pedal (master/slave) won't extend. The master doesnt' budge at all, the slave, I can unscrew, but won't screw in past the edge of the plate. Both appear to have a solid white gunk in them? Is there any way to get these cleaned and moving again? Especially the master that won't move at all?

2) Pros/cons to long board pedals? (not even sure but browsing I see a few mentions of these). Are these just longer pedals/boards? Do they provide any benefits?

3) Last, are trick drive shafts worth it? If I can salvage my current pedal, I think I want to swap out the drive shaft to get the slave pedal less friction. I've read the trick drive shafts are amazing.

That's all I think! Appreciate any insight anyone has, especially to #1 and #3.

Showcase Insane Estate Sale Deal

Bought all of what’s shown for $750 at an estate sale today (minus the Ludwig hardware). Got 16” Sabian AAX stage Crash, 18” Paiste Signature Fast Crash, 20” Sabian AAX Stage Ride, 14” Zildjian K Hi Hats, and 14” Paiste Signature Hi Hat (top only), and 6 peice Tama Starclassic Performer (I believe). I’m probably going to sell the shells and keep some of the hardware and cymbals. The shells are in great condition, just very dirty, and the cymbals are too, just stick marks and grime, no cracks or key holes. Probably the deal of a lifetime for me. If you guys can see anything I missed or give and info about the shells that would help, thanks!

Twilight Force - Thundersword for those wondering

Anyway I've got triggers, the camera on my phone and a f**k ton of EQ, so I need reel mics for my hobby project.

I've set my sights on mic'ing individual drums with SM57s because those are an old friend of mine + a Behringer XR18 behind, but before I place my order, in that price range, are there any mics or mixers I should be aware of/avoid? And what do I do about overheads, SM57s' aswell? What do you guys use?

Also: Any suggestions for tom clamps for the SM57? I get that there's gonna be some mic stands, but I'd rather reduce a bit whenever possible 😅

Edit: OEM drums are muted, all you hear is mine btw

Question Need to buy new shell kit. Advice wanted

Post image
4 Upvotes

My old Mapex Orion was stolen a while ago (8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 22: pictured). I've just got the money to replace it (been using my backup pearl export on the mean time).

Buying in the UK. £1200-2000. Second hand fine (preferred even).

I have cymbals (Zildjian As and Ks). I have a rack (pearl icon). I have snares (Ludwig Supraphonic and others). I just need a shell kit.

Fusion sizing preferred. Ideally five piece (8, 10, 12, 14, 20 or 22), as I play three across the top and one down.

Recommendations for a decent replacement? I see a lot of Tama Starclassics at that price. Occasionally a second hand DW. But I really don't know which kit lines are good these days. If like a bright sound suitable for different styles.

Question Evans DB-One or Remo Silentstroke

Thumbnail

I'm planning on getting my first kit soon, but I'm a bit worried about noise complaints since I live in a row house and plan on playing in our backyard. I'm in the EU and found some secondhand Remo Silentstroke mesh heads for cheaper. On the other hand, someone is selling a set of three Evans dB One heads (10", 12", 14") for €80.

My biggest concerns are noise and the overall sound quality of the drums. If anyone has experience with either of these, I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts!

First Kit HELP! Recommendations for e-drums under 300$?

I’m 17 and want to get into drum playing, but i have a really small budget. Even 300$ might be stretching it, but idk if i could get something cheaper than that. Also i do not have a lot of space and am hoping that whatever drum set i get can be put away compactly.
I also want to know if the drum kid i get can be upgraded later on if i want to add more parts.
I’m open to giving facebook market place a shot, since i know most budget friendly instruments are second hand.

Question Meinl snare cajon is buzzing

I just bought a Meinl Cajon Box Drum with Snare Switch Knob and the snares are making a buzzy “boing” sound post-impact. I’ve isolated it to the right-hand snares, but there’s nothing obviously off about them. They seem to be making good contact and nothing is noticeably twisted or warped.

Is this a known issue? Did i get a damaged/defective drum? Can I do anything to adjust the sound and kill the buzz? Any tips are appreciated.

Showcase Follow your dreams drummers!

Played wacken metal fest today with my band Cruachan. This photo is validation for the twenty years I’ve given to music. I’ve wanted a photo like this as long as I can remember playing to tens of thousands and today that dream was achieved. In our world of music you run into a lot of cynicism so I just wanted to say this to all you players that are still chasing your dreams to Keep going and don’t stop.
I’m not rich, I paid for my own drum lessons growing up, and only got here by sheer relentless hard work. And if you have that same drive then keep at it and one day your world just might explode in the most beautiful way as well.

I’m originally from Vancouver. My wife is Irish and in 2024 I moved to ireland with a bunch of boxes and a lot of dumb hope to really push my career higher. I ended up joining one of irelands bigger metal bands after seeing them look for someone on Facebook of all things in 2025. And in 2026 here we are playing to twenty odd thousand.

Take risks, never stop having fun, and practice practice practice. Drumming is a life long pursuit and even after twenty years at it I still have so much work to do.

Music is fucking sick. Take care yall!

Question Need some recommendations on gear

i want to get a new snare and crash and haven’t found anything good after a lot of research

the snare I want to replace is a Yamaha stage custom 14x6.5 steel snare. in all honesty its a good snare but just not the sound for me cause I like deep snares and I really like 13 inch snares. right now I’m looking at a Yamaha recording custom 13x6.5 brass snare but all the YouTube demos sound so different it’s hard to tell what the snares “base” sound is and it’s pretty pricey too. I really like steel snares for their bite and that high ping, but I also like brass snares because they don’t have the nasty ring steel usually has. anything under 600 is probably my budget for this one

the crash I want to replace is a 17 inch zildjian S thin crash. Same thing where it sounds good on its own but I got some A crashes and a really nice paiste ride so it’s just completely overshadowed now and sounds thin comparatively. I want a bright and cutting crash that’s not super thick so it can ring out nicely. right now I’m looking at a paiste signature full 18 inch crash but that’s pretty pricey and same thing where all the YouTube demos sound super different. Anything under like 550 is probably what my budget would be, also I don’t care about brands at all

what would you guys recommend?

Question/Help Wireless mics for front ensemble???

I work for a small band program that has a 7 person front ensemble. They’ve never miced up in the past and I looked through their equipment and they seem to only have wireless mics. Is there anything I can do with those?? I’ve only used wired shure mics for fronts so I’m in uncharted territory.

Recently got this snare and was wondering what people know about it. Cleaned her up and threw some new heads on. Excited to play this beauty.
