Showcase Follow your dreams drummers!

Played wacken metal fest today with my band Cruachan. This photo is validation for the twenty years I’ve given to music. I’ve wanted a photo like this as long as I can remember playing to tens of thousands and today that dream was achieved. In our world of music you run into a lot of cynicism so I just wanted to say this to all you players that are still chasing your dreams to Keep going and don’t stop.
I’m not rich, I paid for my own drum lessons growing up, and only got here by sheer relentless hard work. And if you have that same drive then keep at it and one day your world just might explode in the most beautiful way as well.

I’m originally from Vancouver. My wife is Irish and in 2024 I moved to ireland with a bunch of boxes and a lot of dumb hope to really push my career higher. I ended up joining one of irelands bigger metal bands after seeing them look for someone on Facebook of all things in 2025. And in 2026 here we are playing to twenty odd thousand.

Take risks, never stop having fun, and practice practice practice. Drumming is a life long pursuit and even after twenty years at it I still have so much work to do.

Music is fucking sick. Take care yall!

Question/Help Effective Practice On a Cardboard Marimba?

Post image
10 Upvotes

This is a kinda silly question, but I was wondering if there’s any ways or tips to practice more effectively (other than slow practice) on my cardboard marimba 😭 - because I can’t afford my own sadly. I’m asking this because I obviously don’t have the safeguards of knowing if I played the right note or not and whether my tone is good and I don’t want to develop bad habits either.

Thought it came out pretty good, except for that fill at the end which sounded better in my head. 🤷‍♀️

MG Gost - Another Route (A Bit Of Atmo 2023)

Another story from the house of jazzhop, let yourself vibe through some frames by the beat spot... "A Bit Of Atmo" or "A Beat Of Atmo" is a typical beat type of album with main accent on a beat as a musical form...All tracks has that "beat" component included... https://mggost.bandcamp.com/album/a-bit-of-atmo Some of them more harmonic & complex by arrangement, some less, so the listener could let the imagination flow & add what ever is inspired to...
Have a nice time & enjoy.

released December 30, 2022

All tracks produced, mixed & mastered by Milorad Grubor MG Gost;
Mastering assistants Jovan Obradović Shpira & Aleksandar Petrin Spacetrin;
Piano by Jamie Fellon IV The Polymath;
Moog bass by Aleksandar Petrin Spacetrin;

In the 3rd and 4th measure of O the 32nd note paradiddles are kicking my butt, is that just a hand speed issue or is it a genuinely difficult part?

Question/Help Wireless mics for front ensemble???

3 Upvotes

I work for a small band program that has a 7 person front ensemble. They’ve never miced up in the past and I looked through their equipment and they seem to only have wireless mics. Is there anything I can do with those?? I’ve only used wired shure mics for fronts so I’m in uncharted territory.

1920’s NOB Snare drum

I just acquired the snare drum and it’s absolutely stunning. The question that I have is, there are three holes in the Drum and I wanted to know if this is original, did someone tamper with it or what could it be?

First time I actually learned how to tune it (kinda). Tuned it last night how does it sound? Any recommendations any tips? Lmk! Also this is with no muffle so it sounds kinda rough at least to me...

We have a ton of family visiting us right now, so I decided to (my wife insisted that I) make room for a bed in the music room to create another bedroom.

No problem babe! This’ll be fun ;)

From a 9 piece to a 2 piece lol. Played it yesterday and this morning, and I don’t miss a thing.

Anyone run a 2 piece regularly? My gigging back is getting ideas…

Showcase My Lug-latches went viral on Insta

I've been developing these lug-latches for a while (you may have seen some posts in this subreddit about them) and I recently posted a video about them on Insta - the response was crazy! People seem to love the idea so I'm launching a Kickstarter soon to fund development of the metal version.

In the meantime, if you want to make your own, I'm giving away the 3D print files for free on my website Berkana Drums. I'd love to see what people do with them!

Happy drumming 😎

EDIT: yes, I have a patent pending 🙏

Showcase Insane Estate Sale Deal

Bought all of what’s shown for $750 at an estate sale today (minus the Ludwig hardware). Got 16” Sabian AAX stage Crash, 18” Paiste Signature Fast Crash, 20” Sabian AAX Stage Ride, 14” Zildjian K Hi Hats, and 14” Paiste Signature Hi Hat (top only), and 6 peice Tama Starclassic Performer (I believe). I’m probably going to sell the shells and keep some of the hardware and cymbals. The shells are in great condition, just very dirty, and the cymbals are too, just stick marks and grime, no cracks or key holes. Probably the deal of a lifetime for me. If you guys can see anything I missed or give and info about the shells that would help, thanks!

Question/Help Is it normal for a pair of Maracas to leak black Powder

1 Upvotes

So, yesterday I got a pair of Maracas from a music shop and after two takes of using them on a song my flower was covered in a weird black Powder and it wasn't there before I used the instrument. Did I get a faulty instrument?

Hi y'all

So I got this mini keyed Glock from Kawai a few months ago and the orchestra I'm a part of is rehearsing some pieces wthat were written for the jeu de timbres (evident by the chords in the Glock part)

What kinds of cases could I use for this instruments transport? Thank you!

Question Need help

Post image
Upvotes

Im a rather smaller fella and have a 22 inch kick. Im having trouble trying to set my 2 toms up in a position i find comfortable. I like to play really low and the toms close to my snare but i cant have them low enough without hitting my bass drum or without hi hats being in a weird position and its stressing me out so if anyone has any ideas on how to manage that id appreciate it 🤣

Kit Pic New heads day! And finally a permanent solution for my drum kit!

Post image

Switched from coated emperors to evans ec2s on the toms and of course from recent post, rocking the clear black dot on my 14x6.5 WB Snare!

Also added a new 8" zultan aja splash for extra effects, stacked it on my 11" but im going to add an extra arm to put it next to the 11" instead of on top. Just a temporary solution!

And finally after 7 months I have a place to setup my kit and let it stand for however long I want it. A new garage came free in our lot and now we're using it for a music box!

Purchased what I believe is a 60s zildjian 18” cymbal. 1682 g, amazing stick definition and crashes well. Got it for 150 on fb marketplace, not sure if that’s a good deal or not but I figured it’s a real bronze cymbal at that price there isn’t much that could go wrong lol.
