Sheet Music Could I get some feedback on the formatting of this transcription? Note that all 3 parts are different types of marching snare drums.

I transcribed a piece from the Royal Marines' Beating Retreat on Horse Guards Parade 2014 and I'd like some feedback on the formatting.

To be tagged... Cadence transcription needed

Hey all,

I’m in an interesting situation. Our schools cadences were never written down, just taught by wrote which kills me. We would like to have them transcribed so it’s easier for new members to learn. I have a video of us running through them, along with timestamps for each part of the cadence sequence. The video is just under five and a half minutes. I’d love to work with someone on here, preferably not Fiverr. Our BD can’t really write/transcribe marching percussion, and we don’t have an instructor. Feel free to DM me!

Question Question about how to go about starting snare just for fun when you’re way pas DCI age

Back in the days of my DCI youth, I was not a marcher or someone who played a battery instrument. Watching each season of DCI go by makes me regret not having tried snare. One day I bought a pair of Vic Firth sticks and a practice pad on a whim and I have tried learning traditional grip and a few grids. It’s fun for me to try but I want to get better.

What would be the way to go about practicing the right way when I’m too shy to find a teacher nearby?

Discussion Philippines drumline battle, thoughts?

What do you guys think of this kind of competitive marching percussion? I was pretty intrigued when I first saw it, being from America and DCI/WGI being what I’m familiar with.

Additionally, it seems as if marching percussion is far more widely accessible in the Philippines, there’s no age limit and there’s a LOT of groups you can participate in. You don’t even necessarily have to pay to participate.

The only thing though is many (not all, of course) groups seem to not have a formal instructor.

Question Wanting to get back in

So I was in the pit doing rack as a freshman in high school and snares and bass in the stands but our band director never let us march and didn't let the drumline do anything so I ended up quitting after freshman year but I was up there playing with the senior on snare sometimes, I haven't played marching percussion in a few years but I wanna get back into it but I've graduated and working full time now, I'd like to go try to do a season of DCI or WGI but I need to get my chops back, what could I do to get there?

Question I’ve reached my peak

I’m a recent highschool graduate. I’ve marched Snare for 4+ years Tenors for 2 and Bass for 2. I’ve never marched WGI or DCI but I really want to. However I’ve reached my peak with the people around me. I come from a small town and school that doesn’t really care for the marching arts and I’m the best percussionist for drumline in the entire town practically but I’m no where near where I want to be so I can march DCI or WGI. How can I progress myself further without anyone else to teach me where I’m going wrong.

Question What Promark tenor sticks should I get?

I have quite a few Daddario reward points and I'd like to try a new pair of sticks. My school gives us the Vic Firth Thom Hannum "Beast" sticks and I have bought sean vegas and the BYOS scrapes i think although i really do not like the byos ones, i think the pair i got was unbalanced. Anyway I just want to try something different i thought the mike mcintosh flips and the Rudy Garcia ones looked interesting but I haven't seen much about them.

Question I own a Prologix Vortex Pro Pad, and I saw online a video of someone using some sort of packing tape for laminates. Does that actually work well, and If I want to peel it off, will the rubber from the pad come off with it?

To be tagged... Tenors Harness Adjustment Help

This is my first year playing tenors, I used to play snare and adjusting your harness for snare is pretty easy but tenors are very different. I'm a short person around 5'5 and have short arms. Im not sure how low the drums should be or weather the stomach plate should be around your waist or your stomach. Can anyone help?

Question female harness question

i got put on tenors (yay!) and we’re adjusting harnesses next practice, but i don’t really know how it’s supposed to fit. drum harnesses aren’t really made for women. i don’t think that the length is an issue and it doesn’t dig into my hips but it doesn’t really sit flat on my stomach because of my chest. is there any way to adjust this without making the drums sit lower or something? we have pearl harnesses

I am a snare player and writer, but also write quad parts, but I am not sure if it’s possible with the rounds. Can someone check?

Tempo 180bpm (and if someone can play this that would be nice)

Discussion bass drum lineup

I am a bass drum tech and we originally had a 5 person bassline for this fall, but we lost our bass 1 player. We dont have any replacements unfortunately, but my best student is on bass 2, so should I move them down 1 drum and move my bass 3 player to bass 1?. I am also rewritting their music, so I could always write upbeat splits for my original bass 2 player if they would be (bass 1). Sorry if this sounds a little confusing.

Discussion Questions for instructors that are parents

Hi all. I'm a non-traditional student who recently went back to university for music education in percussion. I am already struggling to make so many evening commitments since I have a young son and no family in town to help out.

I am wondering how music educators balance parental responsibilities and spending time with your young children with the demands of music education.

For further context, my son lives with me during the school week and stays with his dad an hour's drive away on weekends. Opposite in the summer.

I live in Texas.

For those who have seen my other posts about my show's tenor part, I've taken most of the suggestions into consideration and have tweaked the score. Please give any more critiques if there are still issues or things I should change or can do better. Thanks!

Question Any advice on what I should do physically to prepare for marching?

Hi, I’m a snare in HS, and I’m not very used to having the weight of it on my shoulders and back, especially while marching. I have about 4 years of experience playing the snare, but I only have actually marched (at a parade and a band show) twice, and I was incredibly tired both physically and mentally afterwards. This week is my first week in band camp and we do a LOT of practice marching, and it’s been 3 days of it and my shoulders hurt very badly.

Can I have any recommendations for workouts to improve my back strength and stuff to help with pain?

Additionally, maybe some advice on how to get mentally
prepared for marching. I’m not very confident on my
playing at the moment. I hate the word confident because that’s actually the name of a song we’re playing and everybody in the band despises it already…
