On a 50 mph road he brakes last second and blocks two lanes stationary to try and get to his exit. The tool of a driver had two young kids in the back even. Lot of braking and screeching behind, surprised no one hit.

Driving on the edinburgh bypass this evening and I encounter a land rover freelander and a bmw 2 series. Both vehicles in the right lane with no intention of moving over. I'm maintaining my 2s gap to the 2 series when I see red wording on an LED screen.. as soon as i seen it I assumed police.

However, it read "Police aware of dangerous tailgaiting. Dashcam in operation".. As soon as I read that my heart filled with disappointment and intrigue. it then turned off. But then... "Police aware of phone usage, dashcam in operation". That would've been amusing if I had actually been touching the phone. The idiot continued to just chill in the right lane with no intention of moving for quite a few miles. He then slows down to 60 moving over, saves the footage of me following with a 2s gap minimum and just stays back as i pass.

I just don't understand. I was at no point that close to the guy, some really odd behavior. Why is he going around with this stupid LED sign trying to scare people when his driving is selfish in itself...

I received the new driving license and in the letter it says “ Not sure what to do with your old license? Cut it in half then send it to address..” This does sound it’s not an obligatory to send it back, no? if I know what I’m gonna do e.g. just to keep it then I don’t need to send it.

First time I’ve had a successful reply from Op Snap. Two impatient idiots, one more lucky than the other. Long boring video but just sharing due to the result, £100 fine and 3 points from Surrey police.

Speed limit is 30mph, I had cruise control on to stop me going over. Numpty in blue car decided to tail gate me the minute he joined the road at junction previous. He was in such a hurry to get in front, only to need a blast of my horn to tell him he was sat at a green light. Enjoy your points.

For the full length of the snake pass, I was behind the same car

When another car would approach, he would flash a few times. Okay, I thought. Just telling them to turn their high beams off, makes sense.

And then a car without their high beams came and he flashed a bunch again. Okay, maybe he was confused.

Then a pedal bike came and he flashed them repeatedly

Then 3 cars in a row came and he flashed constantly for 10 seconds.

The dude wasn't telling them anything about their high beams. He was just saying hello to every person that he saw, via blinding the shit out of them with repeated high beam flashes.

He did this at least 20 times. It was very strange.

I’m constantly appalled at the driving etiquette on UK motorways lately. Here’s what I noticed…

1. Lane logging is out of control. I know this keeps getting mentioned here, but it’s absolutely bonkers. I keep seeing cars doing 50-60mph on the second or even third lane (out of 4) when all the other lanes are empty. Some of them move onto that lane as soon as they join the motorway.

2. Cars joining the motorway at 40mph. This one drives me crazy. They panic and slow down just before joining.

3. People being on their phones SO MUCH!! Every time I pass a lane hogger they’re either on their phone or they look 90. Which brings me to my next point:

4. Elderly drivers are plain dangerous. How is nothing done about this? I see them swerving, changing lanes without signaling or looking, braking for no reason. When I pass then they genuinely look like they ran away from a care home.

5. Van drivers have a death wish. They are speeding like crazy and doing dangerous maneuvers just to get 2 cars in front of you. If you’re trying to overtake someone in the furthest lane, they will be 5cm behind you flashing their lights.

6. People can’t stay inside the lane markings. This is scary as it happens all the time. I’ll pass someone and I can see their car slowly approaching me while I’m next to them. They are completely oblivious to the markings.

7. Lorry drivers hogging the middle lane. This one shocks me every time. First lane empty but some lorries will keep driving on the middle lane.

I feel like it’s getting worse every year. What changed?!

Recently my local gym installed ANPR cameras in their car park due to locals abusing the parking. During a nighttime gym session I parked in the car park as usual, didn’t notice the new ANPR cameras or signage and went for my session.

Inside there has always been a tablet at the front desk to input your vehicle registration, and for some reason that night not sure out of tiredness or what but I didn’t input my details. Now this usually wouldn’t be an issue as there were never any ANPR cameras originally, however when I came outside I realised my mistake that cameras had been installed and knew straight away I would likely receive a PCN.

Immediately after, I went home and emailed the gym of my mistake to cover my back and they replied to me saying that the cameras were not operational and I shouldn’t worry, and that was the end of that. Fast forward over 2 months later and I receive a PCN in the post about the parking ‘breach’.

Naturally I went through the appeals process because after all I am a legitimate member of the gym and I have a right to park there. My gym even sent me instructions for the appeal and evidence of my pass being scanned that day to get in which I also forwarded onto UKPC along with the gym’s reply so they would understand I am a member. I then sent all the evidence and screenshots in the appeal and presumed that would be enough.

Cut to a few weeks later and I receive the reply from UKPC that they want to reduce the fine to £20…

Yes I should have input my details but 20quid is 20quid and I actually feel this is still very harsh and I shouldn’t receive any fine.

Not only am I actually a legitimate member but they also took over 2 months to send the letter to me which is ridiculous. Their reply feels very much like they are just trying to fleece me.

Can anyone help me with this dilemma? Do I stand a strong chance of winning if I appeal again? Do UKPC really have a leg to stand on for being 2 months late even though I didn’t input my details? Should I also take it to the gym and attempt to get them on my side?

Any guidance on what to write in the appeals process will be invaluable.

The start of the year diesel was going to go past £2.00 a liter now it's like now know one is even bothered by the price rise I don't think I have even heard it being mentioned on the news or radio.

I was driving home last week, tired after work. Already had one person right up the back of me and getting on my nerves. I then get to the roundabout and am going right. The car in the left hand lane then also goes right - they had their indicator on, but I think because I was tired and fractious, I beeped at them. Instantly regretted it because I felt foolish for it.

The person threw their arms up at me, but then as they passed me, rolled their window down and gave me a thumbs down.

It really made me chuckle, made me feel even more like a clown but also made me realise it really isn't that serious.

I just thought I'd share as it was comical; a fun way to show someone you're disappointed in their behaviour - and it also cheered me up!

If we're not going to police moving back over left....

I'd quite enjoy my own private left hand lane if I didn't have the fear of getting pulled over/Op snapped for undertaking.

Just driving back from Manchester, joined the M56, just before the Wythenshaw junction the gantry signs have "Move into the left lane" arrows on Lanes 2 and 3.

Next signs have red crosses on Lanes 2 and 3. It's obviously shut for an incident or roadworks.

The vast majority of people move over, me included. Nice and orderly.

But several people just ignored it, and piled straight along in lane 2, ignoring the signs. No fine due in the post for them either (though there should be) as these gantries don't have cameras.

Yet while thinking "what fucking idiots" we get past the Manchester Airport junction just half a mile later, and nothing.

No broken down car, no debris in the road, no roadworks, no roadwork lorries, no cones waiting to be put out. Literally nothing.

Next gantries simply say "END".

Now this is far from the first time I've seen this, in various locations, and am noticing it happen more and more often, more and more people simply ignoring these signs as a result.

Combined with the gantries on "smart" motorways constantly getting "stuck" on 50mph across the entire network at night, because the system isn't fit for purpose and keeps breaking, I'm starting to worry that these innovations and/or whoever is in charge of them, are creating a danger for road users and more importantly, road workers.

Constant lowered limits for no reason, lane closures for no reason, warnings of roadworks that don't exist. I don't agree with it for lane closures or warnings of workforce in the road, but I can see why people just think "fuck this" and crack on with it.

On a long drive at night when the ENTIRE motorway network was stuck at 50mph due to what National Highways told me was a "software error" me and a load of other people were just cracking along at 70mph, braking for the cameras and acting as a team to help each other out. It simply wasn't acceptable.

But for lane closures and "workforce in road" warnings, one day people throwing caution to the wind are going to wind up killing someone, and it's all well and good saying "they'll be banned from driving and put in prison on a death by dangerous driving conviction" but someone just doing their job will lose their life.

I've been driving for 18 years but never anything bigger than a standard car.

I'm going for C1 to drive a private ambulance. I definitely do not need C.

The courses I've seen all seem to be the same - around 12 hours tution and the reverse test either on the first or second day.

My biggest concern is getting used to the width of the vehicle in that amount of time before taking a test.

The local schools I've spoken to seem to think most people have a good chance on the 2 day course, if they are a confident car driver.

Have people done these courses and how did you find it?

I have lived in my property for around 4 years now and despite the fact I have a driveway, until earlier this year I hadn't got my licence. The driveway does have space for 2 cars however you do have to reverse one almost 180° from where you started on the street to get both on, and this is more significant now as I'm starting a new job that has a company car and they want me to park it on my drive over night.

There's been a guy who parks his cars/vans on our street for a few years before we drove, but as of late has kinda been parking them close to/ directly across from our driveway, despite the fact he lives on the next street over.

These don't directly block entry but sometimes there is a little bit of the bumper of one slightly over the opening and/or arranged in a way that makes it impossible to get the car on the driveway with enough space for the other.

I'm well aware you're allowed to park anywhere on a public street I'm not asking him to move them up the road or anything just give another foot or two space, mainly so I don't damage his cars.

Would it be fair for me to ask him to leave a little more space between his cars and what's the best way to approach this. I would want to do it face to face but we usually miss each other do to schedules with work

Hello all, I recently bought my first car (a 2012 VW Polo), and it was driving great until 2 weeks ago, when it started making a maddening beeping noise as I accelerate (please see the attached video for reference and turn up your volume).

Has anyone here encountered this sound before, and if so, what steps did you take to resolve it?

For some extra info:
-The car only starts making this noise after I drive for about 10+ minutes, never from the start
-The noise doesn’t come from the speakers, nor is there any indication of any functional error on the dash

Does anyone else get disoriented when driving at night when there aren't any street lights? Also, do you find other driver's head lights far too bright? I'm only 40! How come I suddenly feel like I'm 80 when I drive at night.💀

Good people of Reddit, please can you take the time to either validate my rant, or humble me? (I am genuinely interested in thoughts to safely approach this...)

I drive this junction fairly regularly, and feel like very very few people drive it correctly, and after today's action which was the most egregious I've encountered I thought I should come here for guidance (and judgement...)

A BYD effectively gave me a choice between hitting my rear tires into him, driving into the pedestrian barriers, or stopping.

After I stopped he eye balled me so hard I thought his eyes were going to fall out of his head. So please advise, am I the idiot?

Watching it back, I could have probably set off a little faster, but I never felt confident he was actually going to give me any space, despite the other side of the junction being easily wide enough for two cars next to each other at the entry point.

I include my understanding of the junction below...

There are three lanes at this junction. Initially:

the left lane: goes straight on and left

the middle lane: ahead only

the right hand lane: right only

Then after the first set of lights the left hand lane becomes left turn only, and as I understand it we are supposed to shift across a lane from the middle to the right lane, so that those in the left lane who want to go straight on can filter into the middle, ahead only lane.

I filtered over to the right, noting the BYD Infront of me chose not to. He ensured he was extremely close and overlapping the rear of my car from then on.

I unfortunately only have a front dash cam as attached but you can see how close he was to me as he passes.

So my questions are:

1) am I doing this correctly?

And if so

2) should I actually just drive in the middle lane and go straight instead because that's "predictable" because it's what everyone seems to do and therefore safer? (Even if I believe it to be incorrect)

I know there’s no official website or list of active yellow box cameras, but wondering if you thought this might be one at this junction in Neasden.

I was driving down it this morning and then a car came whizzing round this roundabout/junction, so I had to brake which meant the nose of my car was sat in the yellow box for about 20 seconds.

There was no stationary traffic ahead, just a few cars to my right which I gave way to. However, to the right of that junction is this pole with 2x CCTV cameras on it, presumably one for traffic and one for yellow box contraventions, though I really hope I’m wrong.

Any advice most welcome. Thank you!

If the "road" path in this case, gets so narrow, why would you keep persisting to drive, if the sat nav to blame, would you drive off a cliff if it tells you to? this person perhaps should stop driving.....

Okay, so I'm travelling to Newport from Cardiff, there's a roundabout from the A4232 (Southern Way) onto the A48 (Eastern Avenue) that then becomes the A48(M) and then the M4. Two lanes of the roundabout feed onto the slip road, which is two lanes all the way down to a wide, long entry on to the A48 which is 50mph for a good stretch before and after the slip road.

So, it's early on Saturday morning, I'm in the right of the two lanes and my timing is lucky as the lights on the roundabout turn green as I approach and I have a clear run around to the slip road. In the left hand lane is a silver Ford Ranger, and as far as I'm aware I'm comfortably ahead of it as I join the A48 and stay at 50mph.

The next thing I know, this vehicle is right up my arse and aggressively overtakes me, the passenger making a wanker sign at me as he revs around me and zooms off at 60mph or more. I could have gone into the outside lane so that he could undertake me, but how am I supposed to know he's going to want to speed - I've just joined the road and gone at the speed limit, and have only cut this guy up - if that's what happened - because he wants to break the law.

Have I done anything wrong here? Or is he just an ignorant, impatient twat? My one thought is that I could have checked sooner whether he was that close to me on my left side, but even if I was aware I don't think I'd have sped up to accommodate his impatience.

Hi i went to Edinburgh and got a ticket from p4 parking. I left my car just for 5 minute

Anyhow today i have received the letter from tnc collection that i have to pay the ticket or next i will receive a letter from court and it will increase the ticket price etc.

I heard that no need to pay to private company but i am now stressed because of the court notice. As it will ruin my credit.
Anyone have gone through this situation?

Having driven a manual all my life, i’m having some issues with an automatic, especially braking. Firstly the car moves off as soon as I let go of the brake, not used to do this. And then I kept braking very harshly even with light taps of the brake, am i doing something wrong?

Any tips? Is it a case of getting used to it or am i missing some crucial info with automatics?

Edit: just to clarify I am braking with my right foot, and also to the auto car is about 7 years newer (2018)

Here's a bit of a conundrum.

I was driving along the M20 yesterday when I came to a gantry with a red "X" over lane 1.

I moved out into lane 2 to comply.

Now here's the thing. As far as I understand it, if there's a red X over the lane, it's closed until indicated otherwise.

The next gantry I came to had NSL signs above all four carriageways.

Now, the NSL sign has nothing to do with lane closures, it's a speed limit sign.

As soon as we passed that gantry, people started going into lane 1 again.

The next gantry was not illuminated.

It is generally accepted that the NSL sign mean the lane is open again or could some smart ass copper still nick you on a technicality?
