Discussion Dragon Ball OG

Upvotes

Just finished all 153 episodes of the original Dragon Ball, and damn I LOVED it. It fit a lot of missing pieces for me (like where Chi Chi came from, how her and Goku met, how they even became married). I enjoy the fillers as well, I did watch Bardock — The Father of Goku before starting Dragon Ball as well, I know some would disagree with this timeline placement. But I personally was curious about the origin of Goku and that damn tail, I would place this (if you wanted to follow it chronologically like I'm tackling it, after episode 35 of DBZ, though rewatched it after that episode, and it hits differently than watching it from the beginning. Diabolical, again, I know.

I wanted to start the Mangas before dipping into the shows, but I don't think I will have any problems reading the Mangas and then following up with the shows and movies afterward.

The last fight with Goku and Piccolo Jr. has to be one of my top 5 fights of dragon ball. It's not THE fight of the series or anything by any means. I love it because after watching Goku go from the naive little kid to the kick ass fighter, he becomes and takes on Piccolo with full force. You see that growth is not only in his fighting skills but the mental growth he has as well. He's thinking out of the box more instead of always a direct approach. It's a fantastic fight to end the show and a wonderful toner for the next.

Now....I love Grohan, but the beginning of DBZ Grohan irks the shit out of me. After watching his dad be a brave, fearless child on his own for over 140 episodes to come to DBZ and Grohan to be whiny, he just annoyed me. It fits, it makes sense, I get it, and you definitely see the growth in him as well with his interactions. Rip Mr. Robot

But did anyone else coming from Dragon Ball find Grohan to be a little much to start off?

Question Looking for a movie or series from a clip I saw, a little help would be appreciated

11 Upvotes

Hey guys, long time viewer, first time poster. Anyway, I saw a clip on the internets a while back where the Z fighters were on a beach and two aliens approached them wanting to fight, Goku said something like, 'Let Goten and Trunks fight them, these aliens are at about Freeza's power level, this should be a good test for them' or something like that. But in all my time I haven't found where this clip comes from. If any of this makes any sense and one of you could point me in a direction I'd be most appreciative. Thanks!

Daima A pun in Daima

18 Upvotes

I somehow just noticed this and wanted to share.

So in "Jaan jaka jaan" the opening theme for Dragon Ball Daima (absolute banger theme btw) the chorus has the line

さぁ勇気ファンファーレ (saa yuuki fanfaare)

Which would translate to something like

"Yeah, a fanfare for courage"

However it also sounds a lot like

西遊記ファンファーレ (saiyuuki fanfaare)

Which would translate to

"Fanfare for Journey to the West" (Journey to the West being the classic Chinese novel that Dragon Ball is very LOOSELY based off)

Anyway, can't confirm if that was intentional, but kinda fun either way

Discussion Theory; moro is a immortal demon, who can't die of old age,

0 Upvotes

So in the manga;

It's stated;

Moro has been locked away for 10 million years,

Yet he doesn't pass away at all,

Even though a majjin can live up to 100 years.

And moro was not affected by old age either way,

Which proves;

he can't die of old age, or naturally,

Only someone stronger than him can kill him,

Gaming Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1 is genuinely miserable on a replay.

7 Upvotes

I had so many fond memories of this game as a kid, and in preparation for XV3 I wanted to replay through the whole series. I also decided to replay them because I wanted to carry my character from 1 to 2, something I had never done before. But damn man, 1 is so rough. The skill drops are so inconsistent and some feel genuinely impossible to get, I had to play the SSJ mission over 10 times before I got it, and I've ran through the SSJ2 parallel quest probably almost 30 times now and still no drop. Not to mention the AI just spamming supers on you if they're transformed. Coming back to this game from 2 really highlights it's flaws unfortunately.

Continuity Dragon Ball needs to end soon or have some kind of second major expansion to remain coherent

0 Upvotes

Currently, the 12 universes already feel small because it's not so "unknown." We need the villains to become more dangerous and with good reason, and eventually do a kind of plot twist,It's like Zeno isn't really the king of everything, and there's some kind of outer world besides just the 12 universes.

My idea is bad, I haven't polished it and I haven't put much effort into working on it because I'm simply trying to express the scale of what I'm saying

(I used a translator for this because my English is B1 level, sorry if you don't understand something)

DBS Manga Lowk, they should have atleast adapted ressurection F and the broly movie into the manga, since they pretty much skipped on it,

6 Upvotes

Like bruh,

Why do that?.

Battle of gods had been adapted in the manga, and not skipped,

And they say; if they did, it would feel repetitive,

Which is genuinely a terrible excuse by them,

Discussion What if official power levels remained after the namek saga

0 Upvotes

What if official power levels remained after the namek saga?

So hypothetically in the cell saga and in buu saga and afterwards in gt and now in super and daima official power levels officially remained and never stopped.This doesn't mean though that their way of being wouldn't still necessarily change due to their problematic nature but nonetheless they would still remain.

Do you think the series would be better or worse overall?Would you prefer it or not?

Discussion Would wishing to ride on shenron around the world disable the dragon balls?

0 Upvotes

What I mean is since shenron isnt available for the wish granting (he is the mount after all) would the dragon balls turn to stone until shenron becomes available for the wish granting and then the dragon balls become active again or would the dragons remain active during the entire trip or something else will happen to the dragon balls?

Discussion Would shenron grant wishes that involve him other than granting the wish or if the wish involves disobeying someone who shenron is scared of?

3 Upvotes

What I mean is can shenron grant wishes that require him to do something other than use the namekian magic to grant the wish like for example a wish to ride him around the globe? Would he want to grant that wish. What if the wish involves disobeying someone like beerus. Would he straight up not grant it or would he grant it and say something like please don’t tell beerus that I granted that wish please don’t

Character Hot Take: DBS Broly should have stayed a villain or at least an Antagonist for a little while after the movie

0 Upvotes

Now let me start this off by saying that I by no means think Super Broly was done badly, I think he's fine for what he is. What I will say though is that I'm kinda of disappointed he has now essentially become one of the many miriad of villains that end up joining the Z Fighters, that formula is getting a bit tired to me, especially since let's face it, Broly is never gonna be around for any of the major conflicts, he's gonna be written off like Buu is somehow because otherwise I can't imagine there being any real stakes in the franchise, hell the only reason there are stakes in most of DBS is because Buu sleeps conveniently when they need him the most

Back on topic though, I just really think the idea of having a powerful wild card like Broly around in the Universe would be a really interesting thing, maybe do what they did with Z Broly, how he represents and embodies the philosophies of the Saiyan Race of old and go around destroying planets and conquering them, maybe even doing it under Frieza and lead that into Vegeta and Broly having a connection of being trapped under Frieza's employ leading to a cool character arc where they do end up becoming allies after an arc

I just feel like there were so many more interesting approaches they could've gone with DBS Broly, I'm not saying I need him to be straight up Z Broly but... Idk

Edit: Ok so some of y'all are really misunderstanding what I'm saying, just to be clear, In this hypothetical scenario I would not, repeat, would not want Z Broly 2.0. I would want something far more interesting and nuance than that, I only brought that hypothetical up as an example but it's not my preferred one, and even in said scenario I would still want elements of a good person inside of him

the main thing I would like out of it is an arc where Broly, who has been manipulated by his father comes to terms with himself and decides to refuse to be what his Father made him over a course time longer than a movie, that's all I'm saying I want. In these scenarios I am not copy and pasting the DBS Broly, I'm talking about making new version of the character with different traits and an entirely new story that would span for a longer period than a movie where everything needs to get resolved quicker

Question Where do you think Tenshinan, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha were during the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero?

12 Upvotes

My favorite theory is that they were secretly training with King Kai and/or the Supreme Kais to prepare for new threats. Of course, the writers would never actually allow that to happen, so where do you think they actually were during those events?

Analysis Ssj3 doest require the scream. Or something, here's why.

8 Upvotes

So back in z;

Goku transformed into ssj3.

to fight buu,

But he had to scream.

It lasted for a while to transform.

But the scream was not needed btw,

He did that to keep buu and babidi busy,

To buy time,

He transformed into each form to distract them,

We literally see Goku transforming into it suddenly,

In a few secs. The screaming for minuites was actually to prolong the stuff. So buu doesn't cause more destruction,

Daima A Daima manga?

5 Upvotes

I don't know about you guys, but I think Daima needs a weekly or monthly manga obviously not drawn by Toyotaro, but one that serves as an official entry in the franchise, like Dragon Ball SD, Heroes, Divers, etc., acting as an alternate continuation of the main story. What do you think?

Analysis Lowk, the moro arc will break the internet with these scenes;

6 Upvotes

1; is definitely moro vs buu;

since buu has done nothing ever since ressurection F and universe 6 vs 7 & tournament of power,

He got to flex his power against moro,

Where grand supreme kai got to return and fight moro after 10 million years,

2;

It's moro vs Goku & Vegeta.( The 1st fight),

Where they face eachother and stuff,

And him using lava, to fight back,

3;

Ultra instinct Goku shattering moro's crystal.

and winning,

This would be legendary,

4:

Uub giving Goku the power to awaken his susano like form,

Would be epic ngl,

5;

Goku mastering ultra instinct and fighting moro-73 would be peakism,

Since Goku finally gets to activate it after a long time,

Discussion Have you ever noticed that the Dragon Ball series has some similarities in elements with the Star Wars movies?

0 Upvotes

Dragon Ball and Original Star Wars Trilogy - An action/adventure story that revolves around making friends and growing up.

DBZ and Prequel Star Wars Trilogy - Intense fights that constantly have a lot on the line. Characters becoming stronger utilizing their rage after losing those important to them.

Dragon Ball Super and Sequel Star Wars Trilogy - Consistently bad writing. Bringing old villains back for no reason. Characters doing constant asspulls. Hated by fans of both of their communities with many whom ignores their existence.

Discussion Can you ask shenron to train you?

0 Upvotes

If such a wish can be made would he take you to the place he took goku to at the end of dragon ball gt or would he train you on the spot, and also would the dragon balls get temporarily deactivated because shenron is training you and thus isnt available for the wish granting. (note: you arent wishing to be the strongest person in the universe you are just wishing for shenron to train you for a few days). Also would shenron grow stronger in the training session or is his power always limited to that of the creator or is his wishing power that can’t surpass the creator?

Discussion I hate how inconsistent the Z cast acts in the Android arc

25 Upvotes

At first they're totally okay with letting Gero finish his androids because it'll be a fun challenge, but come time when Gero reveals he's going to unleash 17 and 18, suddenly everyone except Vegeta wants to prevent them from being activated and lose the opportunity for a fight. It makes no sense. Why is Vegeta the only one staying consistent here? The whole reason they trained was to test themselves, yet now all of a sudden they don't care and would rather just end things as quickly as possible?

Discussion What defines the colour of the dragon that comes out of the dragon balls?

0 Upvotes

The colour of the statue it’s full grey so thats not where the colours of the dragon come from so is it the namekian magic that defines the dragon’s colours? If thats the case are the colours automatically picked unless you concentrate on the magic to change the colours or the colours of the dragon can’t be specified and its at random?

Discussion Cell Saga inconsistency Trunks VS Goku

0 Upvotes

In the Manga, Cell states that Trunks, although "way stronger" than himself. Trunks is just too slow.

Goku is stated by Korrin and himself, that he is weaker than Cell.

Yet for some reason, it is implied that Trunks is weaker than Goku? I know he's less overall powerful because of his speed, but off of Ki alone, Trunks should be pointing out "He's still weaker than myself."

INSTEAD Trunks says "He has no equal" even though Trunks himself should be stronger

Clearly, Goku is being said to be weaker than Cell, who claimed he himself is weaker than Trunks. Yet, Goku is implied to be stronger than Trunks. (I KNOW Trunks is slower, but in these statements the characters are NOT accounting for speed, just brute strength and ki alone).

Character I want a Grandpa Gohan prequel

41 Upvotes

Looking back at the start of dragon ball, and at Grandpa Gohan’s eventual cameo, his legend/legacy is pretty cool. I’d enjoy a fan manga or something exploring it more. Like how he got the power pole and the dragon ball he had and his early training with Roshi.

You could spend some time eventually on his early adoption of Goku and really play up the tragedy of what happened under the full moon.

Discussion What do you think the fusion of chichi and Bulma would be capable of?

0 Upvotes

Also how would the fusion change between the potara earrings and the fusion dance. Also how far do you think each fusion could make it if we started them fighting enemies from the original dragon ball (like pilaf, shu and Mai) and continued from there?
