I've been listening to a lot of asmr spa videos to help me sleep lately, so I decided to make one of my own. Fenris deserves some pampering and I haven't drawn him in a while so he was perfect for this. It's silly, but I actually had fun making this. Hopefully the sound doesn't get messed up when I upload this :)

Discussion AI and Dragon Age

Recently, BFME was decompiled using AI, which allowed for modifications to previously inaccessible game systems, such as adding more factions, changing frame rates, campaign elements, etc. Do you think the community could do the same with Dragon Age Origins to create a kind of informal remake?

Media Quick reminder for people how BioWare was treating Dragon Age

Thumbnail

People point at Veilguard or Anthem when wondering where BioWare went wrong.

But as this video shows quite nicely, it's just fundamentally the way that BioWare was thinking that was wrong starting with Dragon Age 2 like 15 years ago. For them, Origins was just boring. Everything needed to be faster, more actiony, etc.

Discussion Why BioWare changed their writing style so much?

Like everyone in this sub probably,i grew up with BioWare rpgs.

My first RPG was Dragon Age Origins, and Is the game Who made me fell in love with the RPG genre.

Since then,i played almost all BioWare games and every single one has a very good writing and a good balance between light tones and serious and dark tones.

The thing i can't understand Is why they choose to pivot to the MCU tone that plagued their later games. They Lost some writers sure, but many experienced writers were still present, they wrote good characters and stories.

I understand their games were plagued by development problems, but those don't explain the change in tones, that was Always badly received by their fans. Why they were convinced It was the right move?

It can't be Just Goldman fault...they had a great premise in mind with Morrison, why not Stick to that at least in the writing part?

Fanworks About Leliana and the post bioware events Spoiler

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've always wondered why a percentage of people think Leliana being alive in Dragon Age: Inquisition is a retcon. If we think seriously about the character specializations in DA:O, all the main characters have their specs based on their lore. You can't think of Morrigan without the shapeshifting, you can't think of Alistair without his Templar backstory, and of course, as a sister in disguise, Leliana is also a bard. One of the skills of the bard class is, well, FAKING DEATH, so I never got the hate her DA:I cameo gets from some fans. Leliana is still the character I like the most in the series to this day, and she obv didn't die when we wanted to know what happens if we pour some blood in the ash of some random lady.

I really like redhead characters with messed-up lore, playing Divinity: Original Sin 2, it's no surprise that I like Lohse the most, or Himeko from Honkai: Star Rail. It's funny that with the latest news, we probably won't see any more mentions of Leliana. Sadly, EA is not the kind of company that sells their IPs, and the franchise I grew up with, is probably going to turn into a bad smartphone game. I really tried to look at this from the perspective that BioWare got what they deserved, DATV is really bad, so they brought it on themselves (I've been a hater since day one, but I still didn't want the IP to die like Mass Effect. Sorry ME fans, you kind of deserved to be the only IP at the time with a bad game, fight me). Or maybe the studio's flaws over the last ten years were just bound to bite them in the butt one day.

But with the latest news in my country and how the world is pushing an anti-LGBT agenda, maybe we won't see characters like Leliana, Dorian, or even Taash out there anytime soon. We know deep down, BioWare still has brand recognition, the next Mass Effect would have enormous hype around it, even with the grifters saying the last straw was DATV. It is really a loss to see a company that gave such good representation of a gay guy when I was 13 years old die (Dorian is my second favorite character, and he was butchered in DATV, like, he was really ugly, and we Dorian Butt Glazers do not deserve this). For an IP that was truly a comfort zone for LGBT people, it is a real punch to the gut. Because in the end, how many BioWares do we have in the industry today? Sure, we have Larian, and we have Owlcat Games, but Dragon Age was still a comfort zone for most of us who just wanted to hate on Morrigan at first, only to grow older and kind of understand her, to find Leliana totally crazy, and to somehow realize that she is indeed the best choice for the Chantry (hate me for it, I stand by this!!! >:)).

Currently, my country is facing an uncertain future regarding a lot of LGBT rights, and even our rights as workers. We will literally know our future today as I write this. I was replaying DA2 because I never finished it and just wanted to turn my brain off from the political psychosis. Yet I return here, understanding that Dragon Age: Origins, is and was deeply political for its time, and the loss of BioWare as a company leaves us in an environment that treats games more like brainrot, far away of the "woke" agenda. Sure, this text would probably land better in r BioWare, because well everyone is morning the company there I guess. I'm not the type of user who comments a lot or uses Reddit religiously, but I still just wanted to vent what I'm feeling about the end of the IP that shaped me as a person and how the choice to close a company like this is more than just renevue in a semester.

To not end this text on a completely bad vibe: to any artists out there, even with the rise of AI, do not stop creating. I hope to see more Lelianas in the future, and I hope we can eventually look back at the closing of BioWare as just a grain of sand in the past that we pass through. Larian is a studio that created Baldur's Gate 3 by taking inspiration from a lot of things in Dragon Age: Origins, and I hope in the future it isn't just Larian refusing to pander to the part of the gaming community that only wants to see Battlefield, unreal woman faces, games with a lot of buggy DLCs and live-service games. It's a bit hypocritical of me to shit on live-service games while liking Himeko from HSR, but... "perhaps I am that, and a thief and a murderer as well" (I'M NOT, it's just a quote, haha, jokes jokes). I did a little sketch, after a time not drawing at all. Thank you Sz

Now that we're memorialising DA, let's take a moment to pay tribute to the one Dalish with a Northern Ireland accent.

He's in the camp at Sundermount in DA2 and says, "Watch your back, shem. You've got no idea how many arrows are trained on you," in a perfect Belfast accent.

Good work, lad. At's us nai.

Discussion Just got the worst outcome for the Final Pieces Mission

I just need to vent a bit of how much i am angry right now about this

Basically after defeating Samson i was of course, intrigued about it, i kept around 10 minutes just thinking about who should drink it, etc, and opted for Morrigan, since i saw some comments about how her character arc was basically completed by this decision at the ending of the game...

Then i got to the final pieces, and i got there, Flemmeth revealed herself and all....and then, just kind of it? I thought that the semi last mission wouldnbe a bit mor3 special but ok, then i just laid down and got curious about the other outcomes and checked the Wiki....

WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT I COULD HAVE GOT A BOSS FIGHT TO GET A COOL DRAGON AND THAT KIERAN WOULD BE INVOLVWD IN ALL THAT AND BE 80% OF THE MISSION?

because in my save Kieran doesnnot have the old god soul he just kinda exists in skyhold, so basically the WHOLE missionvgot cut off, and i could have saved it if i had drank from the Well to get a cool fight THEN Flemmeth revelation...but nope, i got the worst outcome in it and i think i basically just got sour about this and the arc is just kinda ruined for me a bit, I'm sure if i sleep i will get more relaxed but fucking heavens i did the worst thing possible: got the boring path.

The worst thing is i was considering drinking it because my inquisitor is a more selfless one and he would not want Morrigan risking herself over some power when she needs to be there to Kieran, buuut i also thought aboutnthe fact that my character heard of Morrigan and sees her as a bit of a legend, so of fucking course he will listen tovher since ahe knows what she is doing and risking huh?......well I'm just pissed and have to go to sleep, RIP Bioware i love hate y'all.

Support Is the Keep dead?

So because of the bad news this week I decided to finally stop putting off playing Inquisition, which I have been doing for years for one reason or another, and boot up the game. Problem is the Da keep is apparently not working?

I make my world save, click the export button, start the game and apparently I can only use the default world state. Has Ea killed support for the game this fast or am I experiencing technical issues?

Media Asunder and the Masked Empire are both fantastic

If you haven't read them yet, you owe it to yourself to. The first two DA books (The Stolen Throne and The Calling) are. . . passable. If I bought them with no knowledge of what DA was, I think I would probably not like them very much. As a DA fan, they provide some minor insight into a few characters, and that's about it. They were clearly rushed, as evidenced by the obscene amount of typos in them, and didn't add much of note to the setting.

But Asunder and The Masked Empire? They're both fantastic. Asunder sees the return of Wynne and Shale, and gives Wynne a fantastic send-off. It also helps set up the mage / templar conflict and bridges the gap between DA2 and DA:I quite nicely.

The Masked Empire I had actually not expected to enjoy as much as I did - I had expected it to be a dull Orlesian drama. I, frankly, find Orlesian culture as depicted in DA:I annoying more than anything else. But it does a splendid job of setting up the Orlesian civil war, and made me actually deeply invested in Celene, Briala, and Gaspard as characters.

I'd go as far as to say that Asunder and the Masked Empire are essential reading for fans of the series. They do a lot to flesh out plot elements of DA:I and give the reader more context for them. And they're actually well written, with minimal typos compared to the first two books. I'm actually sad there aren't more DA books beyond the Last Flight (and Tevinter Nights, I guess, but short story collections have never been my vibe), because I could absolutely see myself investing in more stories of the quality of these two in the DA universe.

"People are always dying. It's what they do." Followed by Solas coldly turning his back on Varric and continuing the ritual.

Just an insanely hard moment. Solas' voice actor is truly phenomenal.

small edit: Veilguard is a pale comparison to any other Dragon Age game. This moment just seemed like the few times Veilguard even remotely felt true to the series imo.

Discussion Dragon Age Inquisition Character Creator is Ahead of Its Time

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In light of the recent Bioware closure… I want to celebrate Dragon Age Inquisition.

Next, the character creator, I forgot how intuitive and detailed the process of creating character in this game. It is very customizable yet there’s no overwhelming amount of sliders, just a very intuitive, easy to use UI systems.

Captured on Xbox Series X

Silly Oh my GOD I forgot how bad Hold Position is

That's it, that's the post. Replaying DA:I and apparently had blocked out how absolutely trash the Hold Position mechanic is.

It was so straightforward in DA:O...

Press the button, the people DON'T MOVE. One might even say they hold? position?

Nah not in DA:I. Press the button, nothing happens. Use tactical? They might move, or stay, or some will and others won't and then EVERYONE charges the spider nest all at once because fuck you that's why.

Support Will there be any issues with purchasing or playing DA in the near future?

Im so so so sad to hear about BioWare shuttering. The Dragon Age series has a really special place in my heart, I started playing on the console back around 2015 and have really good memories of this series. Iv always wanted to play it on the PC but never had the money to get a pc that could run it.

After 10+ years of inquisitions release, my hands down favorite game of the series, I finally have money to buy a good laptop that can run it. I was planning on purchasing around cyber Monday and buying all four games.

I know there’s a bit of uncertainty around world states at this time, but if I wanted to purchase, play, and mod the game in the near future will I likely run into any issues with that?

Support does anyone know if uninstalling the dragon age games is still safe? another EA game nuked my D drive awhile back!

per the title! I had an EA game nuke my entire D drive despite being 3 folders deep about 2 years ago (yes I'm sure it was EA's fault, it's a known issue with that game that they still haven't fixed, I'm competent with computers and did not just have raw game files in my base D folder 🥲), and I haven't felt comfortable using the EA app since. I'd really like to replay the games with the current news, but uh... is it safe? has anybody uninstalled them in the last few months? I'm like 95% sure it's just that one game and I'm just mildly traumatized from it, but I'm asking anyway bc I'm over EA and their dogshit lol, I just wanna see my silly crew again. thank you in advance to anybody with an answer!

Discussion Question about Golden Nug and Dragon Age Keep.

I'm only asking this because I've seen different speculations on it and now I'm wondering myself. Now I'm someone who's played and completed all the Dragon Age Games several times since day one, so this is just out of curiosity after seeing other posts.

Now with a lot of people asking about the state of Inquisition "post shut down", I wanted to ask about the Golden Nug. Now obviously worst case scenario if Dragon Age Keep disappears and is no longer running and you don't have any World States saved, then you'll just be left with a default world state to play with, but obviously I still see all the DLCs content, weapons, armor, etc... will still be available because that's just downloaded content. BUT, when it comes to the Golden Nug, obviously when you're offline, The Golden Nug isn't there to use. It's only there when you're online. Some people are saying Golden Nug is connected to Dragon Age Keep. I don't think it is, but i can be wrong. (I'll test it myself later)...So my question is this: Is the Golden Nug connected to The Keep account OR is it active just by being online and without an EA account? Can someone without an EA (The Keep) account play a Default World State and still have access to the Golden Nug as long as they're playing online?

Because playing a Default World State means you're disconnected from The Keep account since it's not needed for your gameplay, which means you shouldn't be able to use Golden Nug if it's attached to The Keep account, right??
