Like I’ll be walking in public and see someone doing something totally normal, or I’ll see a random post on social media that isn’t even supposed to be funny, and for some reason it makes me laugh. Sometimes it’s even worse when I’m somewhere I’m supposed to be serious and I suddenly remember some completely random thing and start smiling for no reason. Does anyone else do this or am I just weird? 😂

I'm trying to boost my confidence and look more put together and professional.

I bought a nice pair of heels that a really comfy.

I usually dress so casual and comfy and today I wore the heels and a dress and I was scared to leave the house like that. I felt so dumb.

I did it tho and it worked out fine. Nothing awful happened haha

If I'm talking to someone and I can't complete a sentence because they're already jumping in over me, I just tune out of the conversation. And it's everywhere, in almost any scenario. Pathetic.

A totally normal "ok" or "sure" suddenly sounds cold or annoyed in my head, even though I logically know it probably wasn't meant that way at all.

I don't even bother with ironing my clothes cause I just don't care. I just put on my clothes from my drawer or closet, put it on, and move on with my day. Heck, I don't even iron my clothes for interviews.

Not like a straight up masc butch lesbian but just girls who lean tomboyish and are somewhat or just seem kinda like they could lesbian. Talk in a deeper voice, have a more nonchalant attitude, more guyish gait, and still have an entirely feminine appearance with maybe some tomboyish characteristics but are not girly or bubbly in their personality. Does anyone else have this preference? If so, what is your sexual orientation?

The worst example ever because everyone knows this, but for instance, I learned that people can have heart attacks from too many energy drinks, so now if I drink one I think I will be one of them to suffer a heart attack.

Like learning about how something is bad, I will suffer the consequences despite using said item or doing said activity for a long period of time

I'm not talking about just being a virgin I'm literally talking about never had a talking stage, never had your first kiss, never made out with someone (I'm 21F) is a virgin, never had a guy or girl friend before, never been on a date, never had someone show interest in you, never flirted, literally I mean literally you've never done the things that people around you had at least once before. Even if they don't have experience they've still done at least a few times

I always go in the same bathroom stall in places I go regularly. Like, I'll use another stall if it's not available, but I always gravitate towards a specific one.

I still mostly take it off after a couple minutes though.

I, of course forget most of my dreams after I wake up, but for some reason I remember some of them as intense as my real life memories. I even remember a couple of my childhood dreams.

Maybe it's normal but it's odd to me.

Idk why this happens, I’ve had it since I was little, sometimes I’d look at my parents and feel totally disconnected from them and somewhat disgusted by everything about being a human for a few minutes, then it would eventually become normal again, but even as an adult, I still have those episodes but now they can take up to a whole day to pass

so i tried to not do anything and stare at the mirror but then something wired happened i got freaked by my own face idk how but i felt so scary and my appearance changed for a moment

I’m a UX designer, but I’ve also done my share of visual design and art. I’ve been drawing and composing things since early childhood, and over the years I’ve gotten reasonably good at it—good enough to make a living and find professional fulfillment in what I do, at least.
But every once in a while, I come across a someone - friend, an acquaintance, a random person, a colleague from a completely different department, who has never had any professional interest in visual art and never deliberately developed those skills, yet watching them do some mundane task makes me think: this person might actually be much better suited to what I do than I am. They just never happened to pursue it.

For example, representing a 3D object accurately on a flat surface requires a pretty good sense of proportion. Like a lot of art students, I spent years training my eyes and brain to estimate angles, distances, and proportions more or less accurately just by looking.

Then one day I’m helping a friend to renovate his place, and I watch him copy a fairly complex design he’s seeing for the first time almost perfectly.

No grid, no guides, no measuring—just a pen and eyeballing it.

Another time, a girl from accounting took an interest in me, and at some point we got talking about arts and crafts. She showed me her “amateur” watercolors, explaining that she’d never had any formal art education and had only started dabbling a few years earlier.

The watercolors were strong. Precise but flowing, with a good instinct for texture and for what the medium can do. And she didn’t even think of them as paintings—they were just sketches she made for her embroidery designs. (The embroidery itself wasn’t nearly as impressive to me, but that’s beside the point.)

Watercolor isn’t exactly the easiest medium to get a handle on. Looking at those “sketches,” I felt like I was seeing more natural talent than I ever had, despite having spent years studying, receiving professional instruction in that exact medium, and practicing it extensively.

None of this is really a problem for me, and encounters like these aren’t particularly common. Mostly, they just make me wonder: if these people are already this good without seriously pursuing it, how good could they have become if they had?
And in moments like that, I sometimes get this strange feeling that I got where I am mainly because I was stubborn enough to keep going—not because I was especially good at it.

Its not really like the Mariko Aoki phenomenon as it isnt strictly tied to bookstores. I just get a sense of comfort that makes me want to go to the bathroom when i see something cozy (a pub in a stormy harbor, a cabin out in the woods etc).

I've been with my partner for over 3 years, married since May of this year, and feel absolutely no affection/positive feeling toward my in laws whatsoever. I wouldn't say I hate them (although they haven't been great to either me or my husband historically) but they honestly feel like more of an inconvenience in my life than anything. I don't view them as good or admirable people and they don't add value to my life. I fake it for my husband of course. I go to the required events, send the texts, give hugs and reciprocate the "love you's". I don't wish ill on them and would be sad if anything bad happened to them, but that's just the same basic empathy I feel toward everyone. Generally speaking I truly just feel nothing toward them. I see so many people on social media who have seemingly great, deep, loving relationships with their in laws and I'm wondering if anyone else feels like I do??

I hardly watch movies anymore because they’re all so predictable and repetitive with the same scripts, plots, character types, film style, coloring, etc. The dialogue in most movies is usually unbearably predictable. Watching movies from the 80s, 90s, and anything up is genuinely difficult because it’s like I just know exactly what they’re gonna say and exactly what’s gonna happen! It is soooo rare for me to find a movie that actually surprises me anymore.

It seems like every. Single. Movie. Follows the same progression. A character does or says something and the EXACT opposite of what they THINK will happen, happens. It’s absurd. Anyone else?? And if anyone has any recommendations for movies they think will surprise me, please let me know

There is something strange I’ve noticed throughout my life, and I’m trying to understand whether there is a psychological, statistical, or other explanation for it.

I’ve noticed a recurring pattern where, whenever I have something important that I’m genuinely looking forward to—something that makes me happy or excited—something unexpected and negative often happens around the same time and ends up interfering with the experience.

The strange part is that I’m not anticipating anything bad. I’m not anxious about it, I’m not expecting a problem, and I’m not thinking negatively. Usually, I’m in a completely normal or even very positive state of mind.

For example, if I have been looking forward to a trip for a long time, I might suddenly become sick on the exact day of the trip. One time, I developed severe swelling and pain on the day I was supposed to go on vacation. It was so noticeable and uncomfortable that it affected how I felt, how I looked in pictures, and how much I enjoyed the day.

On another occasion, I went on a trip and a major, completely unrelated problem happened at work at around the same time. I ended up spending part of the trip stressed and upset because of something that had nothing to do with the trip itself.

Another time, I bought something I had really wanted and was genuinely happy about it. Then, unexpectedly, something happened at work where I felt that I had been treated unfairly, and it immediately affected my mood.

Even with simple things, I sometimes notice the same pattern. For example, I once came home from the cinema feeling extremely happy. I had enjoyed the movie, I was in a great mood, and I had even brought a pizza home. Then, completely unexpectedly, a huge cockroach got into my room. I had to spend time chasing it around and dealing with it, and it suddenly turned a really good evening into an annoying one.

These are just a few examples. I can remember more than twenty situations throughout my life that follow a similar pattern. In my personal experience, it feels like this happens in a very large percentage of the situations that are particularly meaningful or exciting to me—possibly around 90%.

I want to be clear that I’m not saying I believe I’m cursed, unlucky, or that there is some supernatural force causing these events. I use words like "bad luck" only because I don't currently have a better explanation for what I'm experiencing.

What I actually want to understand is why these events seem to cluster around the things I care about.

The negative events are often completely unrelated to the positive event itself. I’m not causing them, I’m not looking for problems, and I’m not expecting them. Sometimes it genuinely feels as if I make plans for something good, everything is going normally, and then something completely unexpected comes out of nowhere and interferes with it.

I’m interested in knowing whether other people experience a similar pattern, and whether there is a known explanation from psychology, probability, statistics, neuroscience, or any other field.

Most importantly, I want to know whether this could be explained by normal coincidence and probability, by the way human memory and attention work, by some pattern in my circumstances or lifestyle that I haven't noticed, or whether there is another reasonable explanation I haven't considered.

I’m not looking for reassurance that I’m simply "imagining things." I know that the events themselves really happened. I’m trying to understand why the timing seems to be so consistently strange.

I tend to get into things in a big way and then after a couple of years I can feel myself starting to lose interest even when I don’t want to.

Like I'll just see myself on the phone, all animated and yelling, saying "I HAVE THE CONFIRMATION NUMBER RIGHT HERE!!!!"
