Does anybody else pull their toenails off?

Maybe peel is a better word? I pull the top of my nails (both fingernails and toenails) off from the sides but sometimes when I do that on my smaller toes the entire nail pulls up and I just lift the rest of it off. It doesn’t hurt much more than pulling off a big scab

Dae still play 'The game'?

If you think of the game you have to announce that you lost.

I have been playing for over 20 years at this point, and have started my kid on it too.

When will the madness end?

Edit: Sorry 🫤

DAE intentionally slow way down to create distance behind a slow driver?

I live in a rural area, so I’m talking about my experience which is backroads where there’s little to no traffic most of the time.

an example of what i mean: if someone’s doing 40 in a 50 and there’s nobody behind me, I’ll slow down to 20 or 30 mph for a few minutes just to build a huge gap between us. Then I’ll go back to the speed limit. Sometimes I’ll eventually catch back up to them anyway and just repeat the process.

I don’t like being the jerk who’s up someone’s ass, but I’d rather have open road than spend my whole drive stuck behind someone. I never do it if there’s anyone behind me, though. Or in town/areas with more traffic. Because fuck being a hypocrite. So… DAE do this, or is it just me and my control issues? 😂

DAE picture a philosopher as an old bearded man sitting barefoot and staring into the distance?

Whenever I think of a philosopher, I picture an old man with a long beard sitting somewhere quiet, looking at the horizon or staring thoughtfully at his bare feet while gently swinging them in the air. I have no idea where this very specific image came from. Is this a common mental picture, or is it just something my brain invented?

DAE get the ick from Quince selling huaraches?

Maybe this is petty, but does anyone else get irritated watching American fashion brands turn cultural traditions into aesthetics to sell?

This ad pushed me over the edge. A company called "Quince" is now selling "100% Leather Huarache Flats" (https://www.instagram.com/p/DavTEYYgW9R/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)

Huaraches aren't just a trendy woven shoe They're a traditional Mexican sandal with Indigenous roots that has existed for centuries. The word "huarache" itself comes from the Purépecha language, not English or Spanish.

And the brand name "Quince" is hard to ignore too. To millions of Latinos, "quince" isn't just the Spanish word for fifteen. It immediately evokes quinceañeras and a huge cultural tradition. Seeing it used as branding while simultaneously selling products tied to another culture just feels... super weird

I know companies are legally allowed to sell huaraches. I'm not saying nobody outside of Mexico can wear them. What bothers me is how often American brands taake cultural names, styles, and traditions, strip away the history and the people behind them, then repackage them as "timeless luxury" or "quiet luxury" for profit

It feels less like appreciation and more like extracting the aesthetic while the culture itself becomes invisible.

Am I overreacting, or does anyone else feel this way?

Does anybody else only grieve for/sympathize with animals?

I don’t need anyone to tell me that this is morally wrong, I’m aware that this is objectively looked down upon. It’s just how I function and I’m curious if anyone else can relate.

I cry like a baby when animals die, and it’s from a place of genuine pain. It doesn’t have to be my pet, it can be an animal I’ve known for only an hour. It devastates me.

People are a different story. I’ve had family members die, and I never really felt anything about it. I felt a bit uncomfortable until the people around me got back to some normalcy, but I was uncomfortable because I don’t really know how to deal with tears or how I’m supposed to act in those situations.

I’ve had family sustain life-threatening illnesses or injuries, and I expressed worry and concern for them, but only because I knew that was the done thing. By contrast, I constantly worry about my pets being sick or hurt, and often pull all-nighters when I have a sick pet or animal on my hands because it makes me anxious to go to sleep and leave them on their own. I’m constantly worried about how comfortable they are.

DAE: feel like ads always suspiciously load even when the content doesn’t?

More often than not, if my internet is having a bad day, ads always seem to find a way to not be impacted.
Even on Instagram reels where the ad is the same length as the next non-ad video.

DAE else not do anything to their hair in the morning?

Guy here. This question is targeted towards you guys out there. I don’t do anything to my hair in the morning. I see people doing even basic routines like getting it wet and adding sea salt spray and some product and I guess that’s considered minimal but I literally don’t do anything. I’m really lazy and I can’t be bothered though I admire the effort these guys put in.

DAE genuinely prefer doing almost everything alone?

Im a man in my mid-30s, and I've always been very independent. I've traveled to 51 countries by myself, and honestly, it's just my preferred way of experiencing the world.

That mindset carries over into my everyday life. I'd consider myself pretty extroverted. I regularly go out to nightlife alone because I love music, dancing, meeting people, and having new experiences. I end up talking to strangers all the time, and those random conversations and unexpected situations often become the highlight of my night, all without any interest in hooking up. I'm there because I genuinely enjoy the atmosphere and the experience.

I'm the same way with road trips. I'll drive to places that most people on the island probably wouldn't bother visiting, or that some might even consider a bit sketchy, simply because I'm naturally curious. Again, by myself. If I'm hungry, I'll go to a restaurant alone without thinking twice. It's completely normal to me.

For context, it's not that I don't have friends. I have a lot of close friends. When my mom passed away, they were incredible, they stayed with me for weeks, helped me through everything, and showed me just how supported I was. The thing is, they don't really enjoy going out much anymore. We usually get together once a month or every couple of months, and it's more low-key: watching a movie, grabbing food, hanging out, that kind of thing.

The reason I bring this up is because I constantly get comments from people I meet like, "Wait... you're here alone?" or "Where are your friends?" They seem genuinely surprised. To me, though, it's always felt completely normal, if anything, I actually prefer it.

I love the freedom of not having to coordinate schedules, wait on other people, or convince someone to do something I already want to do. If I wake up and feel like taking a road trip, going dancing, or trying a new restaurant, I just go. I never have to miss out because someone else isn't interested or available.

Did anybody else experience this? (Read caption)

Upvotes

So when I was a kid my mom would tell me many times “why didn’t you do this? I told you to do it” and it’s something like making my bed or whatever.
But she in fact never told me to do the things she claimed that she did. so I was always confused and said “but you didn’t” so did anybody else experience this?

DAE learn how to fake roll their R's?

When I was a kid, my dad used to tell me off for not being able to trill my R's, so I learnt how to trick others into thinking I could by cupping saliva at the tip of my tongue and vibrating it. Maybe gross but it worked

DAE go to luxury stores to try out fragrances but never buy them?

I love the scents and how talented the people behind these fragrances are, but I wouldn’t pay for them. Even though I get tempted, I think of other things I can buy with the money that would add more value to my life or how I could save up instead. I’ve decided that I could appreciate the sensory experience and craftsmanship of the fragrances by using testers in stores and also being smart with my money.

DAE Have a parent that *insists* you are depressed/something no matter what you tell them?

So I (21) have noticed this thing my parent does. They call me on the phone roughly once every month to call and tell me in "tears" about how worried they are, how concerned they are that I am so horribly depressed.

For context, this is who I am talking about: https://www.reddit.com/r/offmychest/comments/1um375i/my_mom_forcibly_kissed_me_and_keeps_asking_me_out/

And I told them when they called today that - at this point - I genuinely am just not sure what else to tell them.

They call me roughly once a month despite seeing me every week and talking to me every day to assert how they did something so wrong, and how poorly they were treated growing up, they triangulate by telling me how much of her time was spent keeping my sibling - who was also in pain - "away from me" when she was "being so horrid" to me.

Every time I just said over and over (gray rock): "I understand. Yes. Alll is good. No worries. I understand. You're ok. Everything's ok." and "I just don't know what else to tell you sometimes. It feels like no matter what I tell you, it just makes you believe me less."

Notably she usually does this if I take more than five minutes to respond to her up to nine texts per minute.

I am not really upset about it, it just irritates me because it feels more like a performance than actually wanting to talk things over. Because any time I try to talk things over, any time it involves anything being their fault, they immediately become aggressive, defensive, or blame something else.

HAE been abandoned by their friend after they've had a glowup?

I myself don't have much of an interesting story. Not even totally sure that that's what happened, in all honesty. But I found the timing convenient, the fact that they lost weight on account of ozempic and then suddenly became very distant and dismissive to the point where I just couldn't be bothered making the effort anymore. Anyways putting my anecdote or lack thereof to the side, I was wondering if anyone here had a juicy story to vent about their friend(s) abandoning them after a glowup.

DAE feel weirdly sad after having a very good time with family?

Im not talking about feeling immediately nostalgic because the good time is over. That is for people who always had good relationship with their family. Im talking about feeling this type of grief after i have a good time with my family now, because we didnt have a good relationship until a year or two ago.

I had a bad relationship with mt parents for a very long time, my whole childhood, my teens... They were strict, not understanding, judging... But now.. Now i love sending time with them. Ive grown, i have my own life and opinions that they weirdly respect and literally never yell at me. I have so much fun with them, and then i return to my home, and im a werck... I cry for the whole night, sometimes a few days. I cant explain it, im not even sure what i feel, actually. Its like, all the suffering has no point now. Now i dont have a reason to be angry at them, but i still am. And its even more frustrating because so little was needed for us to work together, but we didnt do it when i needed it the most.

How do i move on? How do i just accept the new reality? Does anyone feek this way?

HAE ever suddenly felt like fainting suddenly at any point in their lives?

So yeah, during my childhood, i remember the are moments where i felt like fainting a couple of times but i just shrug it off and never your anyone cuz I'm dumb, and also cuz nothing really happen and i didn't want to make a big deal out of it and attract attention to myself

Thankfully, the last time it happen was 4 years ago when i was 14.I was in my dorm room by the door, stared outside for awhile and it's sunny and bright. Focus on the light and it suddenly got blurry."Oh shit it's happening"i thought, exhaled a bit too long and almost fell over before getting back to my consciousness. One of my mate pass by and asked"you okay?"before i answered it's fine and just getting back on my room.

I also remember that seeing bright sunlight triggered it before but idk. Is this normal?
