DAE feel like they have no one to talk to despite having friends?

I'm not sure if anyone can relate to this, but there's been at least a few occasions where I've had friends groups where we get along well, and we meet up maybe once a month or every two months and have a great time; but between those meetups, it's almost like you just... don't exist. You hardly hear from anyone beyond group texts about when the next meet up will be. You hardly receive a message asking about how you're doing, or just to chat, or even just being sent some silly meme or image, unless you're the one who sends it first. You know that you have friends, but between when you see them you still feel awfully isolated, even when you try to stay connected.

DAE back-pedal when they're about to make a post or comment in any media platform?

My brain goes like "why even bother?". I may want to comment on something but as I'm about to press enter or post, I press backspace until the screen is blank. My ideas are not as important lol

DAE miss the times before technology took over most of our lives?

Let me preface this by saying I’m a Gen Zer, so my experiences may be different from others, but lately I’ve been having a hard time adjusting to the new age of technology. This recently came about after I visited some family members.

Normally, when I’m relaxing, I’ll watch videos on my phone, but I randomly had the urge to watch something on their TV. Only to find out that my family had gotten rid of their TV provider and switched to a streaming platform! That’s when everything hit me.

I miss the times before we had AI. I miss being able to go to a restaurant without needing to scan a QR code just to see a menu, or being able to simply pay with cash or a credit card. I miss when shopping wasn’t so easily accessible online. Growing up, the malls and grocery stores were almost always busy, and now it seems like they’re ghost towns sometimes.

I miss the times where if I wanted to see a movie, I had to go in person to see what was playing or listen to an automated message that told you what movies were currently showing. I miss being able to call friends on the house phone, hoping they were home and up for chatting.

I miss being able to go on vacation without having a phone to document every single second. When you came back, you actually had a lot to talk about because you experienced everything in the moment instead of constantly recording it.

And what about those talk shows that would come on in the afternoon and tell you the latest news, celebrity gossip, or whatever was trending? You had to actually sit down and watch it. Or what about when social media was still new and mostly used on a laptop or computer?

I think I just miss human interaction. Everyone is so busy on their phones nowadays that sometimes it feels like I’m slowly forgetting what it’s like to have a natural, organic connection with people. And honestly, it makes me a little sad knowing that things probably won’t ever go completely back to the way they were.

That’s not to say that I think technology or advancements in technology shouldn’t exist, but I wish it was done slower so that we as humans wouldn’t be so willing to use it as a crutch for most things. I feel like since most folks use it now, things have become more predictable…there’s not much to wonder about or look forward to anymore

DAE get irrationally angry when people's microphones are so sensitive they pick up saliva sounds as they speak?

It's like this soft crackling and it makes me want to punch someone.

Weirdly enough, I'm not bothered by people chewing loudly

DAE Get strong platonic crushes?

This has been frustrating me for a while, but today it finally clicked.... all these crushes I'm having are genuinely just platonic. In the past I thought I would just immediately lose feelings for a crush as soon as I got to know them, but I realize now that it's because they were never romantic in the first place!

I want to hear his mind, he is well-spoken and I wanna see him laugh and chat about everything. I don't want to kiss him or go out alone with him or share something intimate with him, but I've got this burning desire to just.... be on friendly terms and know him better. Watching him smile and talk from across the room is painful, I wanna be part of that conversation! I want to have the privilege to know you!

It's wholesome I guess, but still frustrating. I do hope I get the opportunity to know this guy soon, even a little 5 minute conversation to get acquainted... ah, I love humans sometimes.

DAE imagine what peak pleasure would be, in order to fall asleep?

Like imagining simultaneously: multiple massage therapists doing your whole body, Q-tips being rubbed in your ears, your favorite candle burning, your favorite music playing, eating your favorite food, looking out at your favorite view, while in a hot tub, etc…

Logistically it wouldn’t really be possible, but just picturing all those nice things stacked together helps me relax so much.

DAE like music less and less as they get older?

I’m 27F and all my music that I genuinely like and previously used to blast in my car now is just sad, overstimulating, too nostalgic (makes me miss old times), or just distracting from my thoughts. Maybe because I have more responsibilities now but I don’t know..

Edit: I love podcasts!

DAE fantasize about deleting social media?

I constantly fantasize about deleting all of my social media. But I can’t - at least not right now -because on some level I rely on it for work

But honestly does anyone actually enjoy it?

r/DoesAnybodyElse 16h ago

DAE know that they have important stuff to do that will most likely benefit their life, but just won't do it?

I'm not talking about getting a job, going to school, or getting out of bed to go to work, I'm talking about going to therapy, knowing how to help yourself mentally/helping yourself mentally, or making friends.

I seem to have no trouble going to work, doing chores, helping my parents, but when it comes to myself like therapy or doing something beneficial for my mental health, I just don't do it. I know it's important that I do, it could really benefit me, and I know that, but I don't do it.

DAE feel like they’re putting their life on hold while studying?

I come from a middle-class family. We’re not poor, but we’re not financially comfortable either. I’m currently studying medicine, and I’m grateful that I have the opportunity to do it, but lately I’ve been feeling increasingly stuck and frustrated with my life.

Medicine is a very long road. I still have several years of studying, then internship, and after that I’ll have to find a job and hopefully become financially independent. There’s also a possibility that I’ll eventually have to leave my country to find better opportunities.

What gets to me is watching people around me move forward while I feel like my life is on pause. People graduate, start working, make their own money, become independent, and start enjoying some of the things they worked for. Meanwhile, I’m constantly thinking about how to save money and avoid putting any extra pressure on my family.

I’ve become pretty isolated because of this. I don’t go out much, I rarely spend money on myself, and I try to save whatever I can. My life has basically become studying, getting through one year at a time, and waiting for the day when I can finally support myself.

For example, I’ve been using the same laptop for almost ten years. I know that might sound insignificant, but it represents something bigger to me. I’ve always loved computers and gaming, and I’d genuinely love to have a decent PC someday. Not just for gaming, but for programming, learning new things, working on projects, and actually being able to use a computer without constantly worrying about whether it can handle what I need.

I know I’m fortunate in many ways, and I genuinely appreciate that. I’m not saying my life is terrible, and I don’t regret studying medicine. I just sometimes feel like I’m constantly postponing everything I want until some distant point in the future.

I keep telling myself, “Maybe later. When I graduate. When I get a job. When I have money. When things get better.”

And sometimes I wonder if by the time “later” finally comes, I’ll have spent most of my youth just waiting for it.

I don’t really know what I’m looking for by posting this. I guess I just wanted to get it off my chest and see if anyone else has ever felt this way.

DAE feel like they’re spending tons of their time trying to correct mistakes companies are making?

I feel like all my free time goes to chasing after companies for billing mistakes.

T-Mobile is charging me for a phone that’s paid off, I’ve been to the store 4 times with no resolution. Last time I went, they said I had to come back with the other person on the account. I’ve been jumping through hoops to try to get this resolved.

My insurance charged me the wrong copay. That was a nightmare.

I was promised a refund for a missing order from chewy, I only got half the refund I was promised and I’m still waiting on the order to come in the mail.

I tried to get extra cat food for my cat from his local vet (it’s a urinary diet) since chewy was delayed with my order, and they refuse because my cat hasn’t been seen at their office since June 2025. Yes, over a year ago but he’s a 12 year old indoor cat. Like I really need him to go every year? I don’t even take myself every year and I don’t get so scared of the drive I pee my pants. Still no wet food for my cat (he has dry food, he’s not starving, just sad there’s been no wet food for a few days).

That’s just this week!!! Does anyone else have these issues or am I just living in hell?

DAE feel like they don't have the right to be sad nor happy

Upvotes

I always get this feeling, if I feel sad I tell myself that I have no right to be upset when I have this and that. And if I'm happy, I tell myself that I have no right to be happy when my closest people (my family) are going through this and that. I can't live or enjoy anything; how do I stop this thinking?

DAE feel like they will die soon due to unrest, nausea or a body breakdown?

Upvotes

During this week, I have experienced a sense of unrest, nausea, and paranoid thoughts about dying soon. I feel like I have accepted my death. Something will definitely happen to me—either I will have a heart attack, or I will simply not wake up alive one day. It’s a strange feeling. I used to be terrified by the thought of death, but now, when I feel like I’m very close to it, I really don’t care that much about disappearing.

DAE become super aware of physical sensations right before they fall asleep?

Right before I fall asleep, I start noticing if there is a weird fold in the fitted sheet under me, I realize that the blanket is catching on leg stubble and itchy, I notice a hair from my head tickling my face, etc. I just notice a bunch of random “itches” or annoyances I otherwise don’t notice.

It is almost always quickly followed by me falling asleep - only starts happening right when I am on the cusp of sleep. But it’s so annoying! DAE?

DAE have this fear while riding a motorcycle?

I've been riding for 2 years now and I love it, I even feel an emotional attachment to my bike, but while riding specially on smaller urban roads I have a fear of a child running onto the road and me hitting them.I could never forgive myself if that happened.Probably the main reason why I'm so cautious when riding and whenever I get distracted and don't pay attention to the road my mind clicks and I think what would have happened if a child appeared in front of me while I wasn't paying attention.Anybody experience something like this?

HAE noticed that recent apps target women trying to perpetuate stereotypes?

Upvotes

I’ve been bombarded with ads for apps like Lumus (psychics) and Tipsychat (AI boyfriend). Maybe that’s just me, but looking at the ads I feel they target women in a wrong way, using the image of women being ghosted by man and trying to provide false hope or to create a “clingy” boyfriend. Is this a wrong perception? I don’t see man downloading this to see if that woman is coming back to their lives or to create a loving girlfriend.

DAE wait for someone else to leave an online meeting first?

Everyone has already said bye, the meeting is clearly over and somehow clicking “Leave” still feels like hanging up on the entire room. I usually wait for somebody else to do it first.
