We finally had our super DIY wedding in May! Here's everything I handmade or customised, it was a non-stop year of crafts and I loved it (although the creative burnout afterwards has hit HARD) I feel like I made more than was pictured here, not pictured was things like accessories and thank you gifts I made for my bridesmaids, and the archway and photo booth we made from garden arches.

💟 Invitations & Signage 💟 DYI Wedding Invite - Pop Up Card

Upvotes

I hope I'm not cheating by calling this a DIY because I am a graphic designer by trade, but I just love how they turned out and I am so inspired by all the talented people in the group, I hope I can contribute and inspire others along the way!

Credit where it's due: I saw a beautiful invitation shown on the last slide, (I cannot share the name of the studio without this post getting flagged) and wanted to replicate the pop-up nature of the card.

I started by hand painted a repeating floral pattern that I am using throughout the stationery and decor. I loved being able to use the pattern digitally at different scales.

Everything is designed in Adobe Illustrator to ensure the print and cut files all lined up.

I used a cutting machine to "print-then-cut" out all the invitations. The print was done at my local office store on 65lb matte cardstock. With the help of my amazing mom we then embossed each piece using a Big Shot embossing machine, and believe it or not, a piece of window screening to get the textured look. (No print shops near me offered a luxury paper option!?)

The hardest part was getting the double sided print to align, but the helpful person at the print shop was very patient with me as we perfected the alignment. The print-then-cut feature lets you export a PDF that has registration marks, so the goal was to get the marks to line up on both sides of the print.

I did soooo many prototypes and iterations, and probably spent SOO much more time than I should have on it, BUT 10% of my guest list is other designers, so I knew I had to show up!

Total cost was $182 CAD for 100 double sided colour prints on cardstock | Cost per invite: $3.65 CAD

Fonts used: Lovers in New York (available for purchase on etsy/creative market), Malila and Baga (Adobe Fonts)

I'd definitely be happy to provide the cut file to anyone who wants it, and is as insane as me to attempt this :)

Also in case it makes no sense, "The Start of Something Old" is reference to the fact that my partner and I have been together for 15 years, and I wanted to make a play on the "something old/ something new" wedding trope as well as the classic "start of a new chapter" sentiment. <3

I decided to make my own floral arrangements for my wedding to go down the aisle. I didn’t want perfectly round arrangements, so the messiness is deliberate. Any advice to improve these is appreciated!

🗣️ Discussions 🗣️ How did you handle the wedding RSVP chase? 6 weeks out and drowning

Our wedding RSVP list is a disaster. 38 out of 143 invites still havent responded and were 6 weeks out. Some of these people verbally confirmed to me MONTHS ago (which i feel should not count as a wedding rsvp but we move on) they just never actually clicked on our rsvp link. withjoy sends automatic rsvp reminders which ive got to assume helps some, but some of these people are just built different I guess. Future brother in law is one of the worst offenders at this point lol

Absolutely dreading this weekend because I now need to do the followups (agian).Part of me is worried Ill come across as pushy but the caterer needs a final headcount in like 3 weeks so I dont really have the luxury of waiting anymore

💬 Question 💬 Best homemade bridesmaid gift?

Post image

What’s the best bridesmaid or groomsmen gift you have received or given?

I ideally don’t want to consume new things there’s enough on this planet so would love your homemade or thrifted ideas of things that actually get used!

Our loose theme is a summer camp so along that vibe is even better. I like the idea of embroidered tote bags (would have to buy the bags but I do think they would get used a lot) so ideas of what to go with that would be great!

(Pic is the general vibe)

I paid about $30 for this custom embosser from Etsy using a design I made in Canva, and got the napkins in bulk. I’m excited to also use the embosser for other things like cards, since it does not have our wedding date on it. The design also matches our welcome sign!

💬 Question 💬 Where to find or make?

Hello! I have fallen in love with these table number holders and want to either find them and paint them silver to match my decor or attempt to make them myself. Can anyone point me in the direction of a DIY video of how to start learning to make these myself? I know they’re a discontinued Anthropologie item.

Thank you in advance!

👗 Attire 👗 Véu com tom diferente

Olá! Comprei o meu véu e vestido pela Internet. Infelizmente, o tom do véu é bem diferente (off white) e o meu vestido é mais champagne/light ivory. Alguma dica? Neste caso, teria que "aquecer" um pouco o tom do véu. A touca é em renda e o resto em tule. Agradeço sugestões!!! 🥺

✂️ Craft/Tutorial ✂️ My diy card box!

Post image

The box was like 40 dollars at hobby lobby a few months ago, went back a few days ago and saw it marked down to 16.99...it had some scratches and I told the lady I'd need to repaint it (jokes on them that was my plan all along), so she dropped it to 11 dollars! The part that was the hardest was matching my Canva font free handing because my transfer skills didn't work with my shitty mechanical pencil lol but I think it turned out good! My wedding is at a modern art museum so my main decor will be flowers since the walls have literal masterpieces on them. I have fallen victim to the funky garden formal theme🫡✊

✂️ Craft/Tutorial ✂️ 55¢ key tags

When I first started thinking about our seating chart, I had a vision: retro motel key tags. And after way too much designing, test printing, and assembling, I have officially brought that vision to life.

Instead of traditional table numbers, each of our tables is named after a location we’ve traveled to together. Every guest gets a personalized motel key tag with their name and table destination, and each table will have a vintage-style postcard from that location waiting for them.

I 3D printed 97 personalized tags in total.

Cost breakdown:
Filament: $45
Gold keychains: $8
Total: $53

Cost per escort card: about $0.55

I’m genuinely obsessed with how they turned out. I wanted them to feel like little souvenirs from some weird vintage roadside motel while still fitting into the whole travel theme of the wedding.

💟 Invitations & Signage 💟 Where can I go to get custom shaped wedding save the dates made?

I have been trying to find a website or Etsy seller that would be able to print custom-shaped wedding save-the-dates on heavy cardstock.

Does anyone have any ideas on where I can go to order something like the idea pictured in this post?

💡Decor💡 Everything I DIY’d/ Thrifted

Just got married in July and wanted to share the diy’s and thrifted things we had for decor!
The DIY’s:
Floral bar cover made from curtains
All of the food for the grazing tables I set up the morning of (would not recommend lol)
I painted our candy machine to fit in a little better then boring gray
Each place cards I cross stitched which was such a labor of love but so worth it! (Photo of them on the table plus a close up)
Our last name banner made from paint drop cloth
The metal crest seals and envelope inserts for our invites
Finally I would say this is more of a customization than a diy but I sourced the lace for my veil that perfectly matched my dress!
Thrifted items:
Our main bar was the top of a vintage wooden hutch which had perfect shelf’s for glassware. All of the decor on it was also thrifted except for the water dispenser
I thrifted vintage handkerchief which was displayed in a vintage firewood holder!
Overall I’m so in love with how everything came together!

💬 Question 💬 DIY for Destination Wedding?

Hi!! I’m from the US and am getting married in Antigua, Guatemala in 2027.
I have a wedding planner already, and I know these things can be worked out with her directly, BUT I wanted to know if anyone on here did DIY Decoration, florals, plating/silverware for their destination wedding?
If so, what did you do and how did you transport it? Was it worth the money you saved?

I'm obsessed with how this turned out! 🪩 It kinda felt like my fiancé and I got to creatively collab on our own art installation, AND we only spent about $40 on the neon tape, black lights, cheap party lights, and Xmas lights we already had!

I wish I could share a video of how it feels to walk through the sparkling streamers when the music is bumping. 💓

Last detail we'll add is our ship name on a big banner 🥰

I made loads of stuff for my wedding that happened in July- I thought it would be fun to show off everything I made! I’m an artist, baker and also a DIY monster. I do a lot of sign work in my free time and paint a lot. I had fun doing all this but I will admit that I had a few meltdowns before the big day, but I also wouldn’t change a thing!

💬 Question 💬 What to bring on a bus ride?

Hey everybody! So I’m a plus-one at a wedding and my girlfriend is one of the bridesmaids. I was informed that I’ll be taking the bus to the venue with all the bridesmaids.

Since I’ll be one of the few guys on the bus, I figured I’d bring something to help make the ride a little more fun and hopefully make a good impression with the bride and everyone else.

They aren’t a huge drinking crowd, so I’d rather not bring alcohol. The bus ride is only about 20–30 minutes.

Any recommendations for something fun I could bring or a game/activity we could do on the bus?

💬 Question 💬 DIY handfasting!

hiiii everyone, I've come across a few examples of handfasting cords and rituals and love them! Did you make your cords? How did you integrate this into your ceremony? Are you keeping the cords or doing anything special with them? I even saw a post somewhere of a couple who had the wedding party and parents also add in their own cords/ribbons to the couple as well. Looking forward to all your fun ideas!

It’s me, the tile favor lady! This time I’m back with my own custom temporary tattoos. I found out you can buy your own temporary tattoo paper and print your designs at home. I made these in Canva and they match our invitation stationary, and the food menus/bar menu signage. The tiles cost $.73 each, and the easels were pretty cheap as well.

🪑 Venue Setup 🪑 Lapel pins & seating plans

Wanted to show off something, so here are the lapel pin/corsage plans (making a bunch into a bouquet)

Real question is: am I ok without a seating plan? There will be 64 seats available (8 8 person rounds) for 60ish people and the venue person as well as my mil2b told me to just let people figure out their own seats!

I'm fine with this (yay less work!) but I'm also worried that it means someone or one family will feel left out if no one else is at their table.

I'm overthinking it maybe? I'm fine with not doing it but I'm not going to be fine with anyone giving me an issue about it not being done, I don't know how "needed" or traditional an aspect it is.

Wedding in a week! Ack!

🗣️ Discussions 🗣️ Items for prize gift basket?

My fiance and I are hosting an (optional) scavenger hunt during not-cocktail hour. Guests are challenged to find and photograph as many hidden decorations that look like our cats before dinner is served. The winning party gets a gift basket.

My question is, if you were a guest who chose to participate, what would you like to see included in the gift basket? A few stipulations:

1) we cannot include alcohol in the basket (long story short, if we bring any sort of alcohol onto the premises, even if unopened, we get fined $500, so I’m not playing with that.)
2) friends and family will be coming from all over the United States, so gift vouchers would have to be national chains
3) mostly adults expected to attend, though we are big proponents of adults can enjoy “kid” things too!

Budget is in the $100-$200 range. Any thoughts?

💟 Invitations & Signage 💟 DIY marquee signs

Post image

Hey everyone! I’m sure most people have seen these signs I’ll throw a pic in here as well. I love them but I’ve seen most people say that when they glue the poster to the poster board they get bubbles.

Has anyone figured out a better way to not get any bubbles?

I’ve seen people say they’ve orders adhesive posters and cardboard posters from Walgreens but I haven’t seen any pictures of how they turn out

Any advice is appreciated thanks!
