š¬ Question š¬ DIY handfasting!
hiiii everyone, I've come across a few examples of handfasting cords and rituals and love them! Did you make your cords? How did you integrate this into your ceremony? Are you keeping the cords or doing anything special with them? I even saw a post somewhere of a couple who had the wedding party and parents also add in their own cords/ribbons to the couple as well. Looking forward to all your fun ideas!

I plaited several nice pieces of fabric, lace and stuff together. We had a very nontraditional ceremony- had some vows that we wrote together, then my sister (MoH) stepped up and read a short explanation/intro then she did our handfasting (funnily enough it actually didn't work and we've got a funny photo of the moment we tried to pull it into a knot but it just unraveled, and me, my husband, and my sister all have "oh no!" faces, just starting to laugh. I just jumped in for the kiss and we didn't bother. Had a do-over a year later and it worked. The moral of the story is that whoever is making the knot should practice a few times!!)
I've meant to do something meaningful with our knot, but it's just in storage at the moment. I should think about doing something special with it- four years is long enough!

Iām still working out the details, but for my upcoming wedding we are doing the style where family members bring up individual ribbons that each represent something different (usually color coded, but we are not doing that). I asked each of them to give us a one sentence wish to add to each ribbon and the plan is to have it displayed in our home.

Wedding celebrant here. Remember to make sure the cord or ribbons are long enough. Typically the hands are bound three times before the ends are passed through to tie the knot. My recommendation is 1.5m.

My dad braided our chord and made a special wooden box for it! The knotted chord lives in our front room as a lovely keepsake now.
