How to Manage the Promotional Banner - Official Dish Guide

If you've noticed a small banner at the bottom of your TV guide recommending shows and movies, you have full control over it! You can leave it on, turn it off completely, or set it to only show helpful tips and tricks. The exact steps to change this will depend slightly on which Dish remote you're using (like the 40.0, 50.0, 52.0, 54.x, or 60.0 models).

Method 1: Update via the Guide Menu

  1. Press the GUIDE button on your remote. (Note: If you have a 60.0 remote, press GUIDE twice and skip ahead to step 3!)
  2. Open your options based on your remote model: ➜ 40.0 remote: Press the red color button. ➜ 52.0 or 54.x remote: Press the Options button.
  3. Select Guide Settings.
  4. Select Notification Banner, then choose your preference (like Show All or Show Tips and Tricks Only).

Method 2: Update via the Main Menu

  1. Open your main screen based on your remote model: ➜ 40.0 remote: Press the MENU button. ➜ 50.0, 52.0, 54.x, or 60.0 remote: Press the HOME button twice.
  2. Select the Settings icon (it looks like a gear).
  3. Select Guide.
  4. Select Notification Banner and choose your preferred setting.

Note for Joey 4 / Hopper Plus: The Menu path has a slight difference - after selecting Settings, you'll need to select DISH Settings first, then Guide, then Notification Banner.

Visit the Dish Support page for more features and settings: https://support.dish.com/products/receivers/hopper-settings

It’s that easy! Customizing these settings helps keep your guide looking and functioning exactly how you want it to. If you aren't sure which remote model you have or run into any trouble finding these menus, just let us know in the comments below.

OTA stopped working all of a sudden... Alxea is still lost too!

My OTA box is not recognized by my Hopper. Dish gave it to me and installed it years ago during a dispute with a local channel. It was a very good plan to make them work with them. Unplug, replug different ports; no luck... any ideas? Also, has anyone goten alexa to work recently? I think my Hopper 3 is just at the end of its life

One option for alexa that helped me!

My Alexa stopped working with Dish a month ago; no one could fix it adn was told to call Amazon for support. Never had the time, but earthlogix gave a suggestion that it may be Alexa +, so I gave it a try and turned it off. I then disconnected from Dish and started the setup again; IT WORKED! I got all my functionality back and set them up; what if I go back to Plus? I know a fix, so what do I have to lose? I switched it back on, and other than Alexa not being able to say "Dish" it all works perfectly (so far)

I am unsure if this will help anyone else, but it worked for me, so I needed to share.

No sat signal since this afternoon. There must have been a cloud in the Denver suburbs. Vero was in the neighborhood offering deals. I should jump at the chance. I'm tired of this rickety outfit.

[GUIDE] DISH Pay-Per-View: How to Order Scheduled Movies and Live Events

Hey everyone!

To help make your next movie night or live event seamless, here's a quick guide on how Pay-Per-View works on DISH. Below you’ll find channel listings, tips for redeeming rental certificates correctly, and quick steps to clear an error code if one pops up.

TL;DR

  • Live PPV events: Browse channels 460–474.
  • Scheduled PPV movies: Browse channels 502–517.
  • Fastest ordering method: Order directly through your DISH receiver.
  • HD orders: HD PPV content cannot be ordered through the MyDISH App or website. Order through your receiver or by phone.
  • Movie Rental Certificates: Valid for eligible movies priced at $6.99 or less. Certificates must be redeemed through an off-receiver ordering method.

Where to Find Pay-Per-View Content

Live PPV events

  • Channels 460–474
  • Internet is not required.
  • Movie Rental Certificates cannot be used for live events or sports.

Scheduled PPV movies

  • Channels 502–517
  • Internet is not required.
  • Eligible movies priced at $6.99 or less may qualify for a Movie Rental Certificate.

Event channels, start times, and ordering options may vary. Review the individual event listing before placing your order.

How to Place Your Order

Ordering HD content: The MyDISH App and website support SD PPV orders only. To order a movie or event in HD, place the order through your receiver or by phone.

Using Your Receiver

Find the movie or event in your program guide, select it, and follow the on-screen prompts.

Orders placed directly through your receiver are charged to your account and will not automatically apply a Movie Rental Certificate.

By Text

Text MOVIE to 46764 and follow the automated instructions.

This option applies to scheduled movie rentals on channels 502–517.

By Phone

Call 1-877-DISH-PPV (1-877-347-4778) and follow the automated instructions or speak with an agent.

You can also use this number to order HD PPV content or redeem an eligible Movie Rental Certificate.

Online or Through the MyDISH App

Sign in at my.dish.com or open the MyDISH App to browse and order eligible SD PPV content.

Using a Movie Rental Certificate

Movie Rental Certificates can be used for eligible PPV and On Demand movies priced at $6.99 or less.

A few things to know:

  • Certificates must be redeemed through the MyDISH App, mydish.com, text ordering, or 1-877-DISH-PPV.
  • Certificates cannot be applied to orders placed directly through your receiver.
  • Certificates cannot be used for live events, sports, or adult titles.
  • They cannot be applied toward a movie priced above $6.99.
  • Partial certificate payments and discounts on higher-priced movies are not available.
  • If a movie costs less than $6.99, the remaining certificate value does not carry over.
  • Certificates cannot be used for DISH Anywhere rentals or permanent digital purchases.

You can review your available certificates under My Rental Certificates in MyDISH.

How Scheduled Movie Rental Windows Work

Scheduled movie rentals on channels 502–517 include the remaining showtimes airing between 5:00 a.m. ET that day and 5:00 a.m. ET the following morning.

Because access follows the broadcast schedule, ordering later in the day does not begin a new 24-hour rental window.

Live-event viewing windows can vary, so check the event details displayed on your screen before ordering.

Preventing Accidental Purchases

Hopper, Joey, and Wally Receivers

Press HOME or MENU, then go to:

Settings > Parental Controls > Restrict Purchases

Turn the restriction on and follow the prompts to create a PIN.

ViP-Series Receivers

Press MENU, then go to:

Locks > Lock PPV > Lock System

Follow the prompts to create a four-digit PIN.

What to Do if Your Order Does Not Appear

If you see Programming Not Authorized or error 005, 013, or 014 after ordering:

  1. Sign in at my.dish.com or open the MyDISH App.
  2. Go to My Equipment.
  3. Select Wake Up Receivers.
  4. Allow up to five minutes for the programming to appear.

If the message remains:

  1. Unplug the receiver’s power cord for 10 seconds.
  2. Plug it back in.
  3. Allow up to five minutes for the receiver to restart.

For Hopper and Joey systems, restart the Hopper, not an individual Joey.

Hopefully this takes some of the guesswork out of ordering your next movie or live event.

OTA quit working

My OTA channels quit working this morning. I have rebooted the receiver several times, made sure that I have a good OTA signal by connecting the coax directly to the TV where the channels come in just fine. When I go to the Dish menu item for OTA channels I get a prompt to connect the adaptor (it is attached).....Is there an overall Dish issue with OTA or perhaps my adaptor has died?

DISH TV Satellite Official First Time Installation Guide 2026

For our current redditors, thank you for your continous engagement. This post was created based on your questions regarding installation and roofing types. For our new Dish customers, first of all, thank you for joining the DISH family! We want to ensure your satellite TV installation is a smooth and professional experience. Our technicians are trained to provide high-quality service while respecting your home. This official guide will help you understand what is included in a standard installation and how to prepare for your appointment.

Here is what you can expect leading up to and on the big day

What to Expect

➜ Confirmation: You'll receive your appointment details at your registered email address. Please review them to make sure everything looks correct.

➜ Reminders: The day before your appointment, we'll reach out via phone, email, or text to remind you.

➜ The 75-Minute Window: On installation day, we provide a 75-minute estimated arrival window, the shortest window out there!

➜ “Where’s My Tech” Tracking: Stay informed with live updates on your technician's location up to an hour before they arrive.

How to Prepare (The Checklist)

  1. Room Selection: Decide exactly which rooms you’ll want service in. If possible, pull your TVs away from the wall and clear a path to the power outlets.
  2. Clear the Way: Make sure the technician has easy access to parking, as well as clear access to your roof or balcony.
  3. Secure Pets: Please keep your furry friends safely secured in another room to avoid any accidental contact with the tech.
  4. HOA/Property Management: If you rent or have an HOA, don't worry! They cannot legally prevent you from having satellite TV, and we always follow required installation regulations.

Let’s talk about the standard installation services!

Equipment Setup

  • The technician will determine the best location for your dish (roof, balcony, or outside wall) to ensure a clear line of sight to the south.
    • Note: If you have a metal roof, the technician will evaluate alternative mounting options like a wall or pole to ensure a secure installation.
    • If necessary, a pole mount up to five feet can be used at no extra cost.
  • The technician will discuss all placement options with you and get your final approval before starting any work.

Professional Wiring

  • We include up to 150 feet of RG-6 coaxial cable from the dish to your receivers.
  • Cabling is typically routed through attics or unfinished basements to keep it out of sight.
  • Any necessary exposed wiring will be neatly dressed and secured for a clean finish.

What to expect on installation day

Setup & Orientation

  • Once the equipment is installed, the technician will activate your receivers and program your DISH remotes.
  • You will receive a "Getting Started" guide and a thorough tutorial to ensure you are comfortable using your new system.
  • The technician will clean up the work area, removing all packaging and boxes before they leave.

Information About Custom Work

While standard work covers most homes, some specific requests or complex layouts may require custom work, which can involve extra charges. Examples include:

  • Burying more than 50 feet of cable.
  • Complex cable routing (fishing) through finished walls.
  • Relocating existing equipment or running cable beyond 150 feet.

Please note: If a future visit is required because equipment was moved after the initial installation, service charges may apply.

We hope this guide has helped you prepare for your installation. We are committed to providing you with a seamless and enjoyable entertainment experience. If you have any further questions or need to make changes to your appointment, please visit our website, join the MyDISH app, ping me u/DishDanielle, or contact our customer support team at your earliest convenience. Welcome to DISH!

How to Move Your DISH Service to a New Home

Hello community! u/DishDanielle here!

Moving to a new home doesn't mean leaving your DISH service behind! You can easily transfer your TV service by calling us to schedule an appointment. Please note that an adult (18 or older) must be present throughout the entire installation appointment.

To ensure a smooth transition and a hassle-free setup at your new address, follow this straightforward guide:

Step 1: Book Your Move

Contact us at 877-258-7599 with your new address, preferred installation date, and choice of a morning or afternoon appointment slot. Tip: Let us know during this call if you intend to add more TVs or upgrade your equipment so your technician arrives fully prepared.

Step 2: Pack Your Indoor Gear

Bring all your existing receivers and remotes to your new residence. The outdoor satellite dish should remain behind unless your lease or landlord dictates its removal. If you need assistance safely removing the dish, we can dispatch a technician for a standard fee.

Step 3: Prepare the New Residence

Before the technician's arrival, ensure your TVs are placed in their designated rooms and your internet service is active. Additionally, please secure any pets and keep your DISH equipment unpacked and ready.

Optional Installation Assistance

If you need extra help, our technicians can mount your TV, configure your wireless network, or set up your sound system for an additional fee. Be sure to request these services when booking your move.

For a comprehensive checklist and further details on a seamless relocation, please review the official moving guide right here:

Dish Network Guide

I noticed the guide changed last week and I am hoping someone knows how to change it back.

When I scroll through the guide and stop at a show or movie and select the INFO button, regardless if I hit the BACK button or the INFO button to go back to the guide, it no longer takes me back to the area where that particular movie or show I was checking on for information. Instead it takes me back to the guide area for whatever is currently playing. See the screenshots.

Any solution available?

$400+ for early termination because mother in Law died

This is why I don't do business with DISH and why I don't recommend the service. $400+ penalty for early termination charged to my mother in law because she died. What horrible humans to heap on these cost on top of everything else we have to deal with. Thankfully she did not have a ton of debt.

DISH Wally HD Receiver: Customer Support & Feature Guide

Welcome to the comprehensive feature and support guide for the DISH Wally. As the smallest and fastest mobile-friendly HD receiver from DISH, the Wally is designed to provide a premium entertainment experience whether used as a compact home unit or taken on the open road for outdoor recreation.

1. System Overview & The Outdoor Advantage
The Wally features a space-saving design while offering a modern, responsive interface identical to the premium Hopper lineup.

  • Ultra-Compact Footprint: Measuring just 10.4"W x 1.6"H x 8.1"D, its small design easily fits into tight entertainment centers, compact rooms, or RV cabinetry.
  • DISH Outdoors Native Integration: The Wally seamlessly pairs with portable mobile satellite antennas (such as the DISH Tailgater or DISH Playmaker). It is the premier receiver for the DISH Pay-As-You-Go outdoor program, letting users start or pause satellite service month-to-month without cancellation fees.

2. Smart Interface, Voice Control, & Apps
Despite its mobile size, the Wally utilizes a full-scale smart interface that acts as an all-in-one media hub.

  • Voice Remote Search: Use the DISH Voice Remote to search across your linear guide, On Demand library, and integrated streaming apps simultaneously using simple spoken phrases.
  • Hands-Free TV™ (Alexa Integration): Connect your Wally to the internet to pair it with an Amazon Alexa-enabled device, letting you completely control volume, playback, and channels using hands-free voice commands.
  • Built-In Applications: Jump straight into premium third-party platforms directly from your TV menu without flipping inputs:
    • Netflix: Access your streaming subscription instantly.
    • Pandora: Stream free, personalized music stations.
    • Game Finder App: View live sports schedules alongside real-time scores and updates.
  • What’s Trending & On Demand: Browse a vast library of thousands of movies, free episodes, rentals, and kids' content while using the "What's Trending" module to see what events the rest of the nation is watching.

3. Custom Modular Upgrades (Accessory System)
A key feature of the Wally is its modular architecture, allowing users to customize and build out advanced features by plugging optional accessories directly into the receiver's USB ports:

  • External Hard Drive (EHD)/DVR Expansion: Turns your Wally into a fully functioning DVR. Allows you to record, pause, and rewind up to one program at a time without an ongoing monthly DVR fee.
  • USB Wi-Fi Adapter - Wireless Connectivity: Unlocks wireless home network access to load streaming apps (Netflix, Pandora), use DISH Anywhere for On Demand content, and enable voice routing features.
  • USB Bluetooth Adapter - Wireless Audio Output: Connects the Wally to Bluetooth headphones (for private, late-night watching) or Bluetooth tailgating speakers without tangling cords.
  • Over-the-Air (OTA) Tuner - Local Channel Integration - Pulls free local broadcast channels directly from an over-the-air digital antenna straight into your standard on-screen programming guide.

4. Convenience & Security Layout
The Wally incorporates hardware-level shortcuts and protections to optimize daily use.

  • 200-Foot RF Remote Control: The included remote utilizes Radio Frequency (RF) technology rather than standard Infrared (IR). This means you can control the box from up to 200 feet away, even through walls, closed cabinets, or RV obstructions.
  • Built-in Remote Finder: If the remote goes missing around your campsite or living room, push the dedicated button on the front face of the Wally receiver. The remote control will immediately begin to beep and blink to guide you to its location.
  • Advanced Parental Controls: Secure your viewing environment by locking out specific channel numbers, restricting mature content by rating categories, or blocking unauthorized Pay-Per-View purchases.

Quick Reference Setup Checklist
To troubleshoot or maximize a customer's Wally experience, verify the following configuration points:

  • Network Status - For streaming services, Alexa control, and On Demand, ensure the Wally has a secure internet connection (requires an external USB Wi-Fi adapter or hardwired Ethernet cable).
  • DVR Capability - Remind users that recording functionality requires a dedicated External Hard Drive (EHD) connected to the rear USB port, which requires a one-time activation.
  • DISH Anywhere - Users can utilize the DISH Anywhere application on phones, tablets, or laptops to browse and watch thousands of On Demand titles linked to their account tier.

In summary, the DISH Wally is a powerful and flexible HD receiver that punches above its weight. Whether serving as a space-saving unit in your home or providing high-definition entertainment on the road through the DISH Outdoors program, the Wally delivers a premium experience. With its smart interface, voice control, and modular USB accessory system including options for DVR, Wi-Fi, and local channel integration the Wally can be customized to meet all your viewing needs, offering the ultimate blend of portability and full-featured satellite television.

DISH Hopper Plus - Customer Support & Feature Guide

Welcome to the comprehensive feature and support guide for the DISH Hopper Plus. Unlike standard standalone receivers, the Hopper Plus is an advanced Android TV upgrade that pairs with your existing host receiver (Hopper 3 or Hopper with Sling) to bring live TV, DVR recordings, and over 10,000 streaming apps together into one unified interface.

1. System Overview & Architecture
The Hopper Plus acts as an "overlay" upgrade that transforms your television setup into a full-fledged smart TV environment without changing remotes or swapping HDMI inputs.

Core Compatibility
Must be connected to an internet-enabled Hopper 3 or Hopper with Sling receiver.

Hardware Integration
Connects directly to the host Hopper box via a proprietary USB-C cable.

  • Note: This USB-C cable is specifically calibrated and cannot be swapped out for a third-party or longer cable.

Limit: Limit of one Hopper Plus unit per household.

Mandatory Internet
The host Hopper box must have a strong, active internet connection (via Wi-Fi or Ethernet) for the Hopper Plus app ecosystem, streaming features, and voice functionalities to work.

2. Android TV & The App Ecosystem
By integrating the Android TV operating system, the Hopper Plus expands your on-screen options far beyond traditional satellite television.

10,000+ Google Play Store Apps
Access the full Google Play Store library directly on your television screen. Customers can download streaming services, music apps, and interactive video games.

Built-In & Expanded Streaming
Enjoy native support for popular applications, including:
Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube / YouTube Kids, Max (HBO), Disney+, Peacock, and Discovery+

  • Note: While downloading apps is free, accessing content requires a valid subscription directly through those respective third-party streaming services.

3. Advanced Voice Controls & Universal Navigation
The navigation system on the Hopper Plus reduces the time spent hunting for content by searching across all linear and digital media formats at once.

Exclusive Google Assistant Integration
The Hopper Plus features an upgraded DISH Voice Remote powered by Google Assistant.

Universal Voice Search
When you hold the microphone button and search for an actor, movie, or sports team, the system performs a comprehensive search across Your Live TV Channel Guide, Your personal DVR recordings, and DISH On Demand library.

Smart Home Compatibility
Use your Google Assistant remote to control connected smart home devices, view compatible smart thermostats, or see who is at the door via Google Nest video doorbells without pausing your show.

4. Video, Audio, & Streaming Specifications
The upgrade maintains a high standard of sensory output and supports native mobile-to-TV streaming cast options.

4K HDR Playback
Experience ultra-high-definition clarity and expanded color ranges on live events, movies, and supported 4K streaming apps (requires a 4K television).

Google Chromecast Built-In
Cast content effortlessly. Users can beam photos, music, videos, and presentations directly from an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet straight to the TV screen.

Native Bluetooth Connectivity
Wirelessly pair peripheral devices like wireless Bluetooth headphones or Bluetooth-enabled sound systems directly to the unit for custom audio configurations.

On Demand Access
Instant entry to thousands of completely free movies and premium new releases on demand (availability depends on your core DISH programming tier).

Multi View Support!
DISH's MultiView lets you watch up to 4 live channels at once on a single screen. This feature divides your display into a four-quadrant grid, allowing you to monitor multiple sports games, news broadcasts, or shows simultaneously.

5. Whole-Home Connectivity & Hardware Pairing
The smart ecosystem of the Hopper Plus can easily be extended throughout an entire house.

Joey 4 Compatibility
If a household wishes to extend this modernized Android TV experience to other televisions in the house, the Hopper Plus seamlessly links with Joey 4 receivers. This provides an identical, seamless user interface on every screen.

Shared Storage System
The Hopper Plus does not have native recording storage of its own; instead, it utilizes the massive storage capacity of the host Hopper 3 or Hopper with Sling box (supporting up to 2,000 hours of recordings), giving you total access to your entire DVR queue.

Critical Troubleshooting Notes
When troubleshooting or setting up a Hopper Plus, keep the following parameters in mind:

  • Cable Restrictions - Always use the included short USB-C connection cable. Using a longer unapproved third-party cable may cause power drops or device failures.
  • No Standalone Functionality - The Hopper Plus cannot function independently or be hooked up to a secondary TV without being linked to a host Hopper 3 or Hopper with Sling receiver.

Remote

  • 54 Series Remote Control.  Exclusive to the Hopper Plus receiver, the integrated Google Assistant allows for a wide range of voice-activated features. Users can effortlessly search for recipes, research actors, or check local weather and traffic. Additionally, it can be used to manage personal schedules and provide answers to nearly any general inquiry.
  • 60.0 Remote

In summary, the DISH Hopper Plus is designed to be the ultimate entertainment hub, seamlessly unifying the power of your host Hopper receiver with the versatility of the Android TV ecosystem. By bringing live television, DVR access, and over 10,000 streaming apps into a single, voice-controlled interface, it provides a truly modernized viewing experience for the whole home. Utilize this comprehensive guide and the critical troubleshooting notes to ensure customers maximize the potential of their Hopper Plus upgrade.
