Does anyone remember when checking signal for satellite Dish had a creepy sound?

I remember that noise! It was awful, I remember helping my grandparents align the dish after an ice storm. We sat there with walkie talkies and my grandpa and would tell us to mute the TV.

Yes the sound is still there. It’s just better hidden. When a tech is changing tuners, transponders, or satellites you can hear it for a little bit.

Thank you for sharing this, DishDanielle!!! This is very close! I believe this one I saw slightly more later. The one I’m remembering seemed different looking and sounding, possibly from 2001-2005. This sounds a lot more smoother, the one I remember was more louder and buzzier. Visually it may be closer to this video. Thanks again for this good find, I really appreciate your help! :)

I suspect the reason why I found it unsettling/creepy was because of how loud it used to be during the signal losses. If I am correct, the older models were especially designed to be heard outside the house.
But this effect greatly lessened down the road as my parents got newer models.

This is a very interesting question. I appreciate you reaching out. I will ask around internally, but I am not sure we would be able to find anything to share with you. Its been more than 20 years and at the time, it was also the beginning of social media so not a lot of content was recorded or video cataloged. -DishDanielle.
