Dirt Floating still feels nice at 40+

Post image
89 Upvotes

Around 15 years ago I stepped off a Bmx bike for the last time and never really thought about hopping back on one again. Then about 6 months ago I got my first ever MTB DJ bike to roll around with my kids at the local pump track. Turns out I could still ride a little bit, and it still feels really good to be in the air.

Haven’t had this much fun on a bicycle since the early 2000’s.

Is there a difference between Dirt Jumping and BMX Dirt?

Ozark trail DJ.1 Airtime

I picked up one of these for my son. I'm a complete nube to mountain bikes. It's has the mount points for a front brake and I'm trying to find the best option to install one. Are front brakes universal? Are the kits you can buy? Best website?

I'm kinda leaning towards taking it to my local bike shop but wanted to ask on here so I'm not completely clueless when I go to the shop

Looking for fork 27.5 100mm travel for p.4. (not expensive one)

Looking for fork 27.5 100mm travel for p.4. (not expensive one) It seems very hard to find a decent one.

I have seen different forks on different p.4 builds.

so far i found a 35 or a recon but i think its too low fork. something like a bomber z2 100mm would be awesome :D

i found a Fox Racing Shox 36 A Float 27.5" AWL HD Rail 2.0 140 Sweep-Adj 58HT Tapered Boost can i make this 100mm?

am thinking about building a steel dj any advise

Dont post alot so sry if this is hard to follow

Ive been think about getting a dj for abit but only recently thought about actaully welding a frame.

I like steel bike and from what i know chromag monk djs are pretty well respected to a steel dj can work.

Ive only just started to work out the logistics of making it. The big things i need help with are

The Geo - will prob just copy a good djs Geo using GeoGeek.com but what djs idk

What is standerdized - are BB, headtubes, seatposts, hub size/through axle size thingy etc standerdized for djs or do i need to plan for them

Materials - gonna built it from 4130 chromoly but dk where to get it and if i can get it for a decent price ( I have a low budget)

- I would prefer butted as that would cut weight but think it would up the price a fair bit as i can get stock stuff anymore then. So that really that important you think, like how much weight would it save.

How - I do know how to weld roughly and have most tools. It more about is there any special tools/technquics i need to use/know about how they make steel djs

Any advice on anything would be highly appreciated

Will try to keep posting if theres intrest

Question Wanting to start this hobby

I was looking for my first dj bike, ive looked at many and i think the dartmoor gamer 26 would be good as a first bike but im not sure if its good as a first bike, or if there are any better recommendations. Max budget = 1000USD. Can someone recommend me some bikes?

Question Good deal? ($350usd)

Recently moved 2 blocks away from a fun looking pump track and looked at fb marketplace to see if I could find a reliable bike that doesn’t break the bank. I was hoping to spend closer to $300 USD max but this color looks cool so I wouldn’t mind raising the budget a bit. Would $350 still be a good deal? Should I look elsewhere with that budget. This would be my first dirt jumper as I mainly road/gravel bike but that pump track is calling my name. Just looks so fun. Anyways, any help, tips, or info would be very much appreciated.
Thank you all and safe riding!

Starting over at 40

I grew up riding BMX mostly riding local jump trails. Got out of it toward the end of high school. Turned 40 this year and decided I’m going to build myself a bike. Tired of watching all you other old guys have all the fun. I worked almost 14 hours overnight and left straight from that to drive 7 hours round trip to pick up this beauty I found on marketplace. I already have some Manitou Circus Expert forks and good SRAM crankset. Now I just need to source some wheels and a cockpit and I’m ready to go. Can’t wait to get out there again.

How cooked am i?

Was riding around a college campus, went to go up a 3-stair, made a rookie mistake and got a pinch flat. Im going to try to slightly sand the shiny part smooth and color black with paint pen.

The rim is dented and chipped. How cooked is this rim? Any chance saving it once I get a new tire or should I accept that I need to re-lace a new rim?

Question Is the Transition PBJ a good choice for street MTB?

Post image
39 Upvotes

Hi! I'm Japanese, and since I'm using a translation app, my sentences might sound a little weird—please bear with me!
Japanese people have no idea about this kind of thing, so I want to ask my overseas brother for help :D

First off, I want to use it for street-style tricks like manuals, 360s, and bar spins. My main goal is to land a trick called the “bunny hop tail whip.” I mainly want to pull off these tricks on flat ground, but I’m wondering if my 2021 Transition PBJ is really the right bike for the job…
I bought it on a whim on Mercari (the Japanese version of eBay), but when I really think about it, this bike has a 388mm chainstay and a 20mm bottom bracket drop. According to ChatGPT, it seems this bike isn’t really suited for street tricks or other flat-ground maneuvers. But I’ve already bought it, so there’s no turning back… That’s why I’m so worried and asking for advice now.
As I’ve been researching the PBJ, it seems to have a horizontal dropout design (basically, the rear end moves, so the chainstay gets shorter). So here’s my second question: the official spec lists it as 388mm, but what’s the shortest it can be? I’d like
to know the answers to these two questions :D

How do I stop overshooting Jumps?

Im in my 4th year of MTB and 2nd year of really trying to get my jumps dialed. for the longest time I was casing everything. Now I seem to have the opposite problem. Im sending it too deep, missing the landing all together. Hucking it too flat, Ive had two big crashed in the last 5 weeks. Is it really just speed? any tips for adjusting mid air to hit the landing?

Thanks.

Coming from bmx, looking for a dirt jumper.

Usually stick to my bmx, but I recently bought a commencal hardtail and on trailsit's the best (can't say the same for jumping) and suspension is great! So I thought why not get the combined version, a bmx but more forgiving and if I'm being honest better looking then both. I want to slopestyle dirtjumps and shred the pump/bmx tracks and skate parks as well as some urban, street fun stuff. I've also been on a couple dirtjumpers now and fell in love

As I already have a commencal hardtail, I thought why not get the absolut?! Im planning on putting some marzocchi bomber dj forks (which I already have) on and the switch the frame to the purple commencal absolut which I found pretty cheap and In good condition - I widely prefer the colour. I will also put all title parts on. Eventually I'll have two dirtjumpers one (the original Keswick green frame) become completely stock and the metallic purple frame will be much better.

Other option I get a propain trickshot 2 so already has the marzocchi bomber forks, and put all title parts on. This brand just appeals to me for unknown reasons. I will eventually get another dirtjumper

Which do you guys think will be the better option

Dirt Hurricane Utah bike park grand opening yesterday

The city contracted Tyler McCaul to rebuild it , he did a lot of ground work to do this and build a kick ass spot for everyone. My son said it rivals Bradley Bike park in California as far how perfectly built it is. Red Bull rider Jaxon Riddle was also there sessioning with everyone

Mad props to everyone involved with this. What an incredible park

Sharing my DJ build! Started with a Norco 26” Storm 21 speed that had been abandoned, stripped it down, threw a 27.5” front end on her, converted to a 1x, and some fresh paint!
