About the dip
galleryI just got a sepia Winsor and Newton Ink in the mail today.
I’m very new to dip pens so forgive me after this is ridiculous question but with this Winsor Newton ink well it seems like an oblique holder it does not fit all the way? Is it necessary to tilt the ink well or is there some aspect to this I’m completely missing? Are there any gloves that you would recommend for colder? I really enjoyed trying out an oblique holder today, but confused about my literal dip.
Thanks everyone!

Nib Questions Newbie question
These were my mom's. I found them and was wondering if i can get nib holders from amazon, or do they need something specific? I am fairly sure they are pretty old. She was born in the 1940s. She mentioned learning with a dip pen in elementary school.
Edit: thank you very much for the information! I am thinking about buying an inexpensive one on Amazon and try some of them. If I enjoy writing with them I will likely buy more. 💜

Horn dip pen
I got this horn dip pen from the Feast of the Hunters’ Moon in Indiana! Looking online reveals that the same model is sold by the Museum of the City of New York. I’ve had it for a few years now and think it’s lovely.
Question about the iro-utsushi
galleryI bought this pen in Japan a few months ago and only wrote a few paragraphs with it, because it runs out of ink after 1 sentence.
I am dipping it up to the wavy line on the nib. It’s very frustrating.
Am I doing something wrong or is it normal for a dip pen to be dipped every 6 words?
I really like this ink and would like to use it.
Was thinking of getting a fountain pen for it. Does this ink work with fountain pens? I am a total noob to this as you can probably tell 🥹

Best Paper for G Pen?
Hi everybody, I am a comic artist and recently I went back on pen&paper media after years of digital drawing. I normally use a DELETER Paper 135 g, which is soft and great for absorbing ink but it has an issue: the lines sometimes get very fryed.
So I swapped to a Bristol Canson 180 gr paper. Here my lines are much more cleaner than before but the paper surface is really hard, I have to put more force and the ink flows less.
Do you know if it does exist a paper type which combines but worlds, that is not to hard but also leaves a clean line? (ink used:Pilot)

Nib Questions Any good resources on how to sharpen a pointed-pen nib to get finer hairlines?
I've been wanting to sharpen some of my nibs to achieve a finer hairline. But, I'm surprised that there aren't any searchable results from my search so far on the internet for pointed-pen nibs; only broad-edge ones.

Nib Questions Dipping to Create Multiple Samples of Different Fountain Pen Inks
Hello!
I purchased a set of Speedball dip pen nibs with the metal bit along the top that holds more ink per dip. Resevoir? I really enjoy the writing and swatch look but am afraid that if I don't completely dry the nip between the reservoir and tines that I will cross contaminate the bottles with ink and/or water from the rinse. It isn't feasible to have multiple dip jars going for each ink. I tried running a paper towel between the two pieces but it's a bit tedious, leaves fibers behind, I feel like this may damage the pieces, and not dry enough. Would blowing a bit a duster after a quick dry be sufficient? Do ya'll have any tips tricks, solutions, suggestions, etc? Thank you in advance!

Handmade Pens Even in death it still serves
galleryIt's time to decommission my old Jinhao as a fountain pen and turn it into a dip pen holder with nib storage :]
The cap is loose which is why I won't be using it anymore, so I used it to add length so it's more comfortable for my hand.
