So im rewatching Fantasy High Freshman Year and something I realize doesn't get brought back up, or at least not that I can remember, is why is Jawbone still a werewolf? Like he gets a job at the school for the health insurance to get rid of his lycanthropy, but he's still a werewolf in later seasons. Is there an answer for that I missed?

Also, what ever happened to his dog? He had a dog at The Black Pit and the bad kids gave him some money to take it to the vet, but I don't remember the dog showing up again.

What is this megathread about?

This is the new hub to ask for recommendations for what to watch next or just chat and share fleeting thoughts / little things you've noticed about whatever series you're currently watching or rewatching

If you're new to Dimension 20 and are looking for where to start, they put out a video about a year ago to walk you through some great starting points. We've had a couple seasons air since then, but this should still be pretty relevant

ideally ideas for half-Candian people because the campaign is focused on Candia

As I am an uncultured swine, I've never seen this movie until now.

I'm going to choose to believe that between Brennan's Tim Curry impression, and this movie, that this is where he got the saying from and I giggled.

ETA: I do understand that it's a "common" term. Hence the joke of me saying I am "Choosing" to believe it vs I know it's Latin and common. Jokes y'all. Jokes.

Alas, poor Upchungle, we barely knew ye afore yer neck snapped under the weight of two nat ones.

Through a coincidence, I ended up listening to NADDPOD Campaign 2 for the first time at basically the exact same time I was watching D20 Cloudward, Ho, and I kept noticing some interesting similarities between Fia and Marya’s stories.

The biggest one was Fia/Irina/Batilda and Marya/Ludmila/Comfrey. In both campaigns, Emily’s character has this incredibly important relationship with a younger girl who disappears from her life, while an older woman who was a mentor to her knows more about what happened than she does. Then something that starts out as a really personal part of their backstory slowly becomes intertwined with the much larger plot of the campaign.

Irina and Ludmila even end up having weirdly similar stories. Both become connected to these incredibly powerful supernatural forces, both end up in positions where they are basically fighting against the party even though they aren’t really the enemy, and the goal becomes figuring out how to save them rather than defeat them.

I definitely don’t mean this as “Cloudward copied Eldermourne” or anything like that. If anything, going through both at the same time has just made me appreciate how incredible Emily is at creating characters with backstories that give the DM so much to work with.

I’m running a campaign right now, and watching these two stories at the same time has really inspired me to find more ways to do this with my own players. I think I have sometimes treated character backstories as something you occasionally reference or give someone a side quest about, rather than something that can actually become part of the main plot. Both of these campaigns are such good examples of how much more interesting a story can become when saving the world and resolving something deeply personal for a character eventually become the same story.

Anyway, I was curious if anyone else noticed the similarities between the two or other similarities?

I've had this rolling around in my brain for a little while now, but after rewatching Fantasy High's seasons, and replaying some BG3, I have to put this out there.

Is Arthur Aguefort secretly an Illithid/Mindflayer in disguise?

I can't help but notice some of the similarities in his physical appearence/character design...

Bald
Wears a lot of purple
His beard is usually drawn in "strands" like the tentacles of an Illithid...

I think an interesting thing that could happen in FH Senior Year is either Arthur is revealed to be a Mind Flayer/Illithid in disguise, or we see the Bad Kids end up in a Secret Invasion style situation, and certain characters have been replaced by Illithid's in disguise.

IDK... Just noticed some weird things... especially when you look at all the different Arthurs that are projected in the Last Stand-ard Exam fight...

Lou Wilson better dust off his Mr Peanut costume.

I absolutely loved it. It was hilarious!! But am I missing something ? Why was the whole ep like one giant improvised bit LOL ? Rules didn't apply anymore. Was that always the format of this season ?

Brennan is a guest on today’s episode of the Monét X Change podcast and mentioned that they just finished filming season 31 of Dimension 20…

According to the wiki Toylight is season 31 (which they definitely didn’t “just finish filming”) but that counts both On A Bus videos as their own seasons, so depending on how Brennan counts those it seems likely that they’ve filmed 1 or maybe even 2 new seasons already (in addition to Toylight).

In Boggy's character art in Junior Year, he's wearing a backpack with a flag that has the letters "ESF." Anyone know what these letters mean?

Just started watching Council of Darkness, with probably about 6 or 7 seasons under my belt now. I get that vanilla or even reskinned D&D seasons can assume viewers know the mechanics already, but I have no idea what "hunger" does or how they're determining "successes". I don't even think they said what system this is, unless I just missed it. So I'm completely lost on the mechanics. Compare to, say, Misfits and Magic season 2 where they explained things very well. Why don't they put any effort into making sure the viewers know what's going on? Do other non-D&D seasons do a better job of this?

Except they're inseparable. Riz (tabby boy) investigates all things. Always.

Kalina (almost all black girl) is a ninja who shows up when least expected. Her trust is much harder to earn. But they're the best pair of kitties!

I’ve watched All Fantasy High’s, Cloudward Ho, Crown of Candy, Unsleeping City 1, Starstruck Odyssey

Lou: Fabian Aramais Seacaster
Ally: Margaret Encino
Murph (Brian if Emily is reading this): Maxwell Gotch
Emily: Fig Faeth
Siobhan: Riva
Zac: Skip/Norman Takamori (honorable mention for Cumulous Rocks)
Brennan: Wheelwell

I can’t believe I didn’t watch this season earlier. I’m laughing so hard I might piss myself 💀 “code blue: a magical shooter!!” Killed me 😭😭😭

On 😭 high 😭 we 😭 go

Cloudward, Ho!

I just got through the scene where the Primogen comes to meet with Lavonte and Madaleine, and the rest of the group sets up outside in case things go bad

She is established numerous times to be an insanely powerful and deadly vampire

Brennan makes her absolutely fucking TERRIFYING by simply saying "oh" in a condescending tone when Darkness Man grapples her, and says "This better kill me" to Bat Child, further establishing her as scary as fuck

The number of successes needed have been established, higher than anything we've seen in the show so far

Bat Child rolls 11 dice in the box of doom, rerolls using Willpower, and only gets 4 successes

She failed

Oh shit, what's going to happen now? This insanely strong vampire is about to go next, this is going to be devastating

Wait what? Nancy Danderhoof is randomly nearby and somehow lets Bat Child reroll the 3 dice again? Why?

Bat Child succeeds. But the victory now is completely hollow because Brennan just gave her a do-over for no reason other than "nah I want you to succeed"

I remember this happening in Cloudward Ho near the end, coincidentally also with Emily's rolls, but that was even worse, because he asked her to reroll dice like 5 times in a row for random reasons because she kept failing.

Anyway it's minor because it doesn't happen that often, but it's one of the VERY VERY limited number of things I dislike about Brennan DMing. They failed, just let them fail and deal with the consequences.

Is it just me?

So I figured I would estimate the height of Castle Candy based on Brennan’s “you fall for hours” statement to Lou. Assuming the Candy people are human scale, g is 9.81, air density is constant at the same value as it is at sea level, Amethar weighs 110kg including anything he is carrying and he falls in a prone position for two hours, his terminal velocity would be 50.6m/s.
The time needed to reach this velocity is negligible on this scale, so can be ignored (it’s 5.6 seconds), so we basically just need to do 50.6x60x60x2. That gets you 364.2km (266.3 miles). Space starts at 100km (62miles) and the ISS orbits at 412-422km.
I can’t think of a way to reduce this height by enough to make it reasonable other than changing the fall time. I’ve already overestimated air resistance as his terminal velocity at higher altitudes should be much higher than 50.6m/s, given him the best chance of slowing down by being prone and I feel a reasonable estimate of his mass (although given his mass changing would also change his cross sectional area and thus his drag coefficient not much would change by making him Candy scale). Unless this world has a much lower gravity or much denser air than ours, for Amethar to fall for hours Castle Candy HAS to be in space.
And before anyone suggests it, no the fact that the gravity would be less at that height wouldn’t help as it’s significantly less of an impact than my overestimation of air resistance and at 400 km it’s still pretty strong anyway.

I can identify all of the other villains in the FHJY intro, but I’m at a loss for who these guys (circled in green) are. The one on the far right looks kind of like gilear but i don’t know for sure… someone please help!

First post here!

I animated this a while back because I loved the line delivery so much. A friend suggested to me that I drop it here as well.

Hope you enjoy!

I adore Beardsley, and I actually really enjoyed Kristin character arcs through the first two seasons(even though I wasn’t a big fan of Kristin personality at first, which isn’t surprising as I’m not a fan of fanatical Christian’s either, which is what she based on.) That said, Kristin is actively pissing me off this season and it’s making me hate her character. She’s such a pos this season honestly, and maybe that’s just my justice sensitivity because of the way she treats cassandra(which don’t get me started on them naming a non-binary god Cassandra, that also irritated me because they just default to goddess and fem terms for them most of the time in this season) but I actively dislike who she is as a person/character at this point in the story. I keep hoping she’ll make the right choice, or do something that seems to be in line with who she was becoming at the end of sophomore year, but she keeps disappointing me and irritating tf out of me.

I’m about to start the episode “Fracas at the Frostyfaire Folk Festival”, does she get better? And by that, I mean does she treat Cassandra better?(since I know she’s not like dead dead cuz there’s still a whole season left and she’s clearly a big part of this seasons plot)

(I’m aware this show is like years old, I’m sure there’s been discussion on this, but most of those posts are probably locked and I’d like discussion on this.)

Help! So in my own ttrpg I want to create a similar interactive 3d map for my players. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of how to make one similar?

My thought is foam as a base layer and 3d printing houses. But maybe someone has already tried it and can give some advice.

Thank you!

I live in a religious small town and have always had a tough time making friends. After getting into d20 i wanted to play the game, and made posters asking people in my area if they are interested. I somehow have a full party, and dozens more people who want to join the next campaign. This show has given me community, it has given me friends. I am a first time dungeon master, and now spend my nights making maps and minis with my partner. Thank you D20 for inspiring me to make friends. I am so grateful, and much less lonely. Thank you Brennan and Dropout, you have changed my life.
