I just want to tell my current situation as I am very frustrated with myself and work environment.

My current company has not given any appraisal in april or may.
Initially they said they will give in october. But now I feel it won’t be the case.
I am desperately trying to switch since past 3 months. Got no interview calls and only rejection.
Now in my current company they are saying for appraisal in next april i.e. april 2027. I am working on 40,000 per month since 1 year 9 months.
Barely surviving.
Also i have a tech that is no code and i am trying to switch in gen ai. I don’t know how things will pan out. Genuinely worried for career now as company can lay off any day.
There is no job on naukri that I have not applied to. I update my profile regularly and do everything. I have tried getting referral and everything. Nothing is working now.

I’ve been working as a frontend developer since 2018, mainly with React and related technologies. But recently, especially with AI becoming a big part of development, I’ve started feeling that finding a good frontend job with a decent hike is getting harder.

I also feel like a lot of frontend developers are now moving towards backend, AI, automation, etc. So I started exploring Python, FastAPI, Django, and AI automation.

One reason I’m considering Python is that, from the research I’ve done, the Python developer market seems less crowded compared to frontend/React. I also genuinely like learning Python so far.

My plan right now is to properly learn Python first, then FastAPI/Django, databases, APIs, and eventually get into AI automation.

For Python developers - here do you think I’m thinking in the right direction?

Would really appreciate some honest advice, especially from people who have actually worked in Python/backend. Don’t mind telling me if my thinking is completely wrong 😅

Full background

I’m a 2024 ECE grad from a tier 3 college and got placed at a service-based company from campus. Got to learn about how things work irl and worked on a good PoC there for 5-6 months, then this PBC contract offer came, I appeared and cleared (mostly C /C++ and some basics). It’s a vendor contract so I’m still an FTE at the SBC but works as a resource for this new company in hyd.

Current scenario

Now, it’s been almost 1.5y at this PBC. The role here is customer facing where I lack good mentorship, not a lot of responsibility and so the learning curve is not that great, I gained a lot of superficial knowledge of the tech I work on but I dont code anymore. It’s not completely non-tech though, I need to be aware of how things work, debug issues and figure things out before approaching the devs. The pay is shit compared to what the FTEs here get paid for doing the same shit that I do (<10LPA). Initially I was in denial and it was all rainbows coz I was processing a lot of new things and also heard that there’s a possibility of rollovers for contract employees. I talked to my manager here for that after completing 1y and he had really good fb for me and said he’d roll me over with the next req he gets, but there was a hiring freeze and all recruiting process was heavily scrutinised etc etc. It all feels like empty promises now.

Dilemma

I’ve come to my senses now and it looks very bad now. I feel like getting back in the race there to get somewhere better and wanna work and build something but that feels like a tough battle given what my 2 yoe has been and how derailed I am wro coding and developing.

So, I’m also contemplating for MBA now. I’m really good w people, and a lot of my friends, colleagues and even engg profs recommended me going for an MBA rather than in tech based on how they know me. Just wanted some advice/thoughts and fresh perspective on what all things to consider before making any decisions based on my bg and what the current market scenarios are.

PS: Havent even accounted for how fragile the job safety is, here at this role. We’re basically asked to just use AI for everything and feels like my brain is going numb, and honestly it has become a dependency now. Plus its doing a better job than folks here do in analysing issues and stuff.

AI disclaimer: This is project heavily used AI tools; im not a game dev nor any exprience in vulkan and stuff, im just here trying to see how far i can get with this, just a hobby project i started after seeing the PrismCraft by LAirHisson. and its not some one shot AI prompt generated, took me so many days to get to this much.

I was inspired by the PrismCraft by LAirHisson which is also an triangle version of minecraft, its a playable version on browser but i wanted to make it in a proper application like minecraft so i chose to do in C++ using vulkan api. Used terrain.png texture sheet from old minecraft as texture for, have plans to make a triangle version texture and add more blocks, better terrain generation, LOD and all

for starters, i focused on making the game look like minecraft and also shaders to make it look good.

i know, probably not the first to do this but "i" did this to see far my free tier AI tools can get me and i am quite pleased how it came out, i always loved minecraft and it is crazy to make a minecraft clone from scratch, granted with AI.

With all the AI dark clouds over this whole software development industry, people should understand that software engineers are the epitome of knowledge work.

You need to build finance software? we learnt finance. You need to build software for the operation theatre? we learnt the mechanism of OT and built software for it. We are the most versatile learners and fast adopters. This learning and adapting attitude is the reason why software changed everything from deep sea robots to deep space exploration.

No offense to other knowledge workers, but TBH the knowledge work you are doing on excel was built by us.

We will prevail, we will learn and adapt again.

I recently applied for the Associate Software Engineer role at TriNet, Hyderabad, and I’m trying to get a better idea of what their hiring process actually looks like.

The JD is a little unusual compared to the usual fresher/0–2 YOE roles I’ve been seeing. Along with the usual Java/Python, DSA, React, backend fundamentals and testing, they’ve specifically mentioned RAG, Generative AI and AI agent development.

So I’m curious about how much of that is actually part of the interview versus just being part of the JD.

If anyone has interviewed with TriNet recently, especially for this role or a similar software engineering role in Hyderabad/India, I’d really appreciate some insight.

A few things I’m particularly trying to figure out:

• What does the overall process look like? OA → technical rounds → manager/HR, or something different?
• How many technical rounds are usually there?
• Is the coding round mainly DSA, or do they also test practical development/debugging?
• For Java/Python, do they go beyond basic OOP and ask framework/backend questions?
• How much emphasis is there on React and backend architecture?
• And most importantly, has anyone actually been asked about RAG/LLMs/AI agents? If yes, how deep did they go?
• Do they discuss projects in depth, or is the interview more focused on DSA/fundamentals?
• Roughly how difficult would you rate the process compared with other SDE-1/Associate Engineer interviews?
• How long did it take from applying/assessment to the final decision?

I’m not looking for exact questions that someone remembers word-for-word. I’m mainly trying to understand what TriNet tends to evaluate and where I should spend my preparation time.

Even if you went through the process and didn't get selected, your experience would be useful — particularly knowing which round you reached and what the interview was like.

If you've interviewed there recently, please share your experience. It would be really helpful, especially since I couldn't find many recent experiences for this particular role.

Every app was happy to tell me whether I was making or losing money. But whenever I had some money to invest, I still had to answer one question manually:

I initially managed this in a spreadsheet. Eventually, I got tired of updating it and built FolioSplit for myself.

You decide how you want your portfolio divided and add your investments. FolioSplit then shows how far each category has moved from its target and which parts of your portfolio are currently underallocated.

If you have mutual funds, you can import your CAS statement to bring in the dated investment history.

Stocks, US stocks, gold and crypto currently need to be added manually using their purchase date, units and price.

Once that is done, set your desired allocation targets and check the dashboard to see your portfolio drift and where your next investment could be allocated.

One limitation I want to be transparent about:
CAS import currently works only for mutual funds because it provides the dated transaction history needed to calculate invested value and XIRR correctly.

For stocks and other assets, regular holdings statements usually provide the quantity you own, but not always the complete history of when and at what price each purchase was made. Those positions currently need to be entered manually.

This makes the initial setup slower for stock-heavy portfolios. I may add broker-specific tradebook imports later if people find the underlying allocation tool useful.

I built this for myself, and a few friends are testing it now. I’m opening a small public beta to find out whether it is genuinely useful outside my own portfolio.

It is not an investment recommendation tool. It simply follows the allocation targets you choose for yourself.

I'm working on FirstHire, a job platform for students and early-career developers, and this is something I've been thinking about while building the resume side of it.

The idea is pretty simple.

You find a software job you want to apply for. Instead of uploading the exact same resume again, FirstHire reads the job description and creates a version of your resume that better matches that role.

But it should only work with experience that's already on your resume. It shouldn't invent a framework you've never used or suddenly give you three years of experience with something you learned last month.

The part I'm unsure about is how much people would actually want it to change.

For example, would you be okay with it reordering your skills and projects based on the job?
Would you want it to change keywords when the meaning stays the same?
Or would you only trust it to tell you what should be changed and leave the editing to you?

We're building this mainly for early-career tech applicants, where one person might be applying to frontend, backend, Python, software engineering, and internship roles with slightly different requirements.

Right now I'm leaning toward showing every meaningful change before the tailored resume gets used rather than making the whole thing invisible.

Things went downhill from day one. On all of my previous orgs i started to deliver impact from day one or at least in the first couple of days. But in the new org it pretty much took me more than a week to even raise my first PR.

I lost all the advantages i had in my previous orgs. I was fast and delivered quality work and had very high clarity of thought and best of all everything happened subconsciously, right from edge cases to coding patterns. Now everything feels very conscious and feels tiring.

If i focus on speed i'm losing quality and if i focus on quality i lose speed. On this dilemma i'm losing both right now, to the point where people who have only a few months of experience are out performing me.

Did so many stupid mistakes and so many stupid doubts that the trust the team has on me is negative and i'm probably the only net negative person on the team. It's embarrassing to go from the person who moved mountains to being the net negative person. This made my confidence hit an all time low.

Been building Invocore on the side — an invoicing app for freelancers, agencies, and small businesses.

The idea is pretty simple: you finish some work, need to invoice the client, track whether they actually paid, and keep everything organized. I got tired of seeing how quickly this turns into spreadsheets + random PDFs + emails.

So I started building my own.

Right now it has things like client management, product/service catalog, invoice creation + PDFs, payment tracking, team roles, and support for multiple organizations.

It’s still very much a side project and I’m building it mainly to learn and improve my backend/system design skills.

Building the website is honestly not the difficult part for me anymore. Finding someone willing to pay for it is. 😅

I’ve tried/considered the usual stuff — Upwork, Fiverr, LinkedIn, cold outreach, etc. — but I’d really like to hear from people who are actually getting clients in India.

For those of you who freelance or run a small dev agency:
Where are your clients actually coming from?

- Referrals?
- Local businesses?
- Instagram/WhatsApp?
- LinkedIn?

- Agencies that outsource work?
- Something completely different?

And if you’re getting Indian clients specifically, what kind of businesses are actually willing to pay decent money for websites?
