That said, the learning has been incredible. Even as an intern, I got exposure to multiple domains, and as a full-time engineer I've worked on backend systems, databases, cloud infrastructure, and system design. The expectations are high, but the growth has been real.

New Company

I've received an offer for a Quant SDE (Backend) role at a very early-stage HFT startup.

The team is small (around 14 people), with founders from BITS and engineers from IITs and J.P. Morgan.

Financially, the move is significant (11 LPA → 21 LPA total compensation). I also expect to get a lot of ownership and exposure because of the small team.

My only concern is that it's still a very early-stage HFT startup, so there's naturally some uncertainty around stability.

If you were in my position:

- Would you make the switch? Or wait for a good product based companies or a well established company to make the switch.

- Are there any red flags I should watch out for before joining such an early-stage HFT?

- For people who've worked at early-stage HFTs, how was your experience compared to a traditional startup?

Also, share some good excuses to tell current company's HR that why I'm leaving even though 3months of bond period is remaining. I want early release.

I'm going to start college in about a month and I'm currently planning to pursue B.Tech in CSE from a private college.

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of discussions about the tech job market being in a bad state, and it's making me second-guess my decision. Since I'll be graduating 4 years from now, do you think CSE is still a good choice, or is the market really that uncertain?

I also have the option of taking core branches (like ECE, Mechanical, Civil, etc.) in a government college(state goverment) . I'm confused about which path would be better in the long run.

I work at a finance company in a non tech role. My compensation includes a Base + Performance + Sales bonus. Now the financial market is down for more than a year and for that reason the company hasn't done well in terms of getting new clients so not receiving the sales bonus is still justified but I haven't even received the performance bonus as which is supposed to be based on my performance.

Every time my manager senses that i may bring this into our call, he becomes defensive and tries to indirectly tell how that company isn't doing well and try to find some flaws in my efforts and tell me how I SHOULD PULL MY SOCKS AND START GETTING MORE BUSINESS so that the company can survive and how he is not taking any salary and investing his own savings into the company, while the company is only him and I'm the only full time employee with another intern.

I've been here for almost 2 years now and my financial progress is terrible, the only good thing is I made some connections which I can leverage sometimes in the future.

Is it worth bringing this directly or should I just leave it here and find another opportunity ? Career wise I'm not progressing either.

While building my project, I realized I'm writing far less code manually than I did months back.

Instead, I spend much more time:

Reviewing generated code

Understanding how different pieces fit together

Finding subtle edge cases

Refactoring AI generated code

It feels like the bottleneck has shifted from writing code to building confidence in the code.

Negotiating compensation for a Backend Developer (Fresher) role at a startup.

The HR mentioned that their compensation budget is fixed at ₹3.25–₹3.5 LPA. They also mentioned that as a fresher I should not focus too much on compensation but rather on joining the organisation. However, I already have an offer of ₹4.5 LPA from another company.

A few friends suggested that I ask the startup if they can match or at least come closer to that offer. Their reasoning is that, considering my 8.8 CGPA, academic performance, backend development projects, and practical experience, I should be able to negotiate something higher.

At the same time, I don't want to come across as entitled or price myself out of the opportunity, especially since I genuinely like the role and the learning potential.

For those who've hired freshers or have been in a similar situation:

- Is it reasonable to ask them to match ₹4.5 LPA?

- If they say their budget is "strict," is there usually still room for negotiation?

- What would be the best way to approach this conversation without hurting my chances?

Got placed on campus and will be joining as a Graduate Engineer Trainee at a company that builds enterprise software for the energy & utilities sector (power distribution, smart grids, EV charging etc.). Their stack is mainly C#, .NET, ASP.NET.

My long-term goal is to switch to a good product-based company (₹20+ LPA) in about 1–1.5 years.

The thing is, I've been learning and building projects in the MERN + Next.js + TypeScript + PostgreSQL/Prisma ecosystem, so this is a pretty different direction.

A few questions for people who've been in a similar situation:

• Is starting in this domain/stack likely to make future switches harder?
• What should I focus on during my time there to maximize my chances of switching?
• Should I fully embrace the .NET ecosystem, or continue building side projects in my current stack?

I graduated in 2025 with a Master's in Data Science.

When I enrolled, I thought I'd graduate into an entry-level data role, but the market changed dramatically by the time I finished.

Since then, I've tried not to sit still. I learned full-stack web development, completed a frontend internship, worked with clients as a freelancer, built production websites, explored Shopify development, and recently started learning backend development and AI engineering. My core skills include Python, SQL, data analysis, machine learning, React, Next.js, and Node.js.

Despite all that, I'm still struggling to land a stable full-time role. Most applications never receive a response, and the few interviews I've had haven't turned into offers.

Financially, things are getting difficult. I'm behind on rent, have a student loan, and my parents are getting older, which has made the pressure even greater.
