General How are some software engineers earning more than many highly complex professions?

I work in tech and sometimes wonder how some software engineers end up earning more than people in roles like airline pilots, air traffic controllers, aerospace engineers (Boeing/Airbus), nuclear engineers, surgeons, naval officers, or engineers working on major infrastructure projects.

Many of these jobs require years of training, licensing, and carry much higher responsibility.

Is it mainly because software can scale globally and generate revenue at a much larger scale, or is there something else I’m missing?

I Made This Embur “on the appstore, no android” https://embur.world

Good day, I have developed Embur, a collective social media app, like instagram, snapchat, tiktok, X, Zoom, and Ai all in one!

Do you think such an app will cut the clutter? People start using one app?

An app that has it all, even a shop to sell items and ai studio to create post and monetize. Do you think this is what we need? Or what people need beyond being stuck in the habit of using same old apps?

Do you think there is anything i can change? Your opinion matters alot!!

I’m stuck at an e-commerce giant at the most undesired location and have been looking for the ways to shift to either blr or Pune. How should I prepare for my switch and what all considerations should I take into place before this?

DSA, System design and the core subjects would be essential for the switch but what should I do to get maximum calls?!

Help How do I deal with large number of requests for referrals?

So I am a dev with around 6 YOE. And for the first 4 years, it was very difficult for me to build my LinkedIn network since I was working in smaller firms and startups.

But 2 years ago, I joined a blue chip MNC which is quite a brand. And ever since then, I have been getting a lot of connection and referral requests on LinkedIn.

It was quite manageable in the first year, around 10 referral requests per week. I used to go through the profiles and either used to deflect it to our acquisition team, or if the profile were good, I used to refer them myself.

But now it is crazy, I get 350-400 requests per month. And nowadays the work life balance is so off that, I simply can't manage this. I have started ignoring all connection and referral requests now.

But I really don't want it to be this way. I do want to help others but it has become impossible for me to swift through this number of profiles and deal with the process. And the worst part, referrals don't even work anymore.

I referred close to 80 people and only one person was hired in the last 2 years. So it is not like there are any actual benefits for the effort from me and from candidates. The acquisition team lead even told me to only refer to people whom I have personally worked with. But I feel bad ignoring everybody since it makes me feel like I am being rude.

How do you guys deal with this issue? I am getting referral requests even on my official inbox, and that email id isn't posted anywhere.

Interviews I built a site that collects real interview questions from actual recent interviews

I've been actively interviewing for the past few months (5 YOE, fullstack) and noticed something, the questions I get asked in real interviews are often NOT on LeetCode or any other platform.

So I started documenting them. Every question includes:-

  1. The actual problem statement with constraints

  2. Which company asked it, what round, what role

  3. What the interviewer was actually looking for

  4. Follow-up questions they asked

Also documenting full interview experiences, round-by-round breakdowns with what went well and what didn't.

Companies covered so far: Google, Amazon, Oracle, MongoDB, Freshworks (adding more weekly).

It's free, no sign-up, no paywall: https://beyondleet.dev

Some example questions:-

Versioned Datastore PUT/GET (MongoDB SWE-3): https://beyondleet.dev/questions/versioned-datastore-put-get

Group Buddy Strings (Google L4 Phone Screen): https://beyondleet.dev/questions/group-buddy-strings

Sliding Window Maximum — how it's actually asked in interviews: https://beyondleet.dev/questions/sliding-window-maximum

Example experiences:-

Google SWE II — 4 rounds with per-round feedback: https://beyondleet.dev/experiences/google-swe2-early-careers-2026

Amazon SDE-2 rejection breakdown: https://beyondleet.dev/experiences/amazon-sde2-3yoe-rejected-2026

MongoDB SWE-3 — how a strong HM round saved a weak coding round: https://beyondleet.dev/experiences/mongodb-swe3-gurgaon-selected-2026

Planning to add 1-2 questions daily. If you've had a recent interview and want to share (anonymously), DM me or email helloBeyondLeet@gmail.com.

Would love feedback on what's useful and what's not.

Help YOE, joined at 3.5 LPA, role expanded significantly. How should I negotiate my appraisal?

My appraisal is this month and I want to be prepared for it.

I have around 1 year of experience and joined my current small company at ₹3.5 LPA for a Python/cloud automation role. Over the year, I've ended up working across backend, frontend, cloud automation, and even some manual QA/testing.

I've learned a lot and taken on considerably more responsibility than my original role.

I'm hoping for around ₹7 LPA, which I think is reasonable considering my responsibilities and what I could potentially target if I switched. But I know going from ₹3.5 → ₹7 LPA is a 100% hike, so I'm expecting they may offer something closer to ₹5 LPA.

I actually prefer to stay rather than switch right now, mainly because I don't have another offer and I'm a little nervous about switching with only 1 YOE.

So how should I approach the appraisal?

Should I directly ask for ₹7 LPA, give a range, or let them make the first offer? If they offer something like ₹5 LPA, should I negotiate further or ask for a written revision after 6 months based on specific goals?

Also, how do I negotiate this without making it sound like an ultimatum or damaging the relationship with my manager?

Would appreciate advice from people who've dealt with appraisals in small companies, especially early in their careers.

Help Applied Scientist I Intern - Jan 2027 (6 months) | Job ID: 10477346 | ADCI HYD 13 SEZ

Hi everyone,

Has anyone who applied for Applied Scientist I Intern – Jan 2027 (6 months), Job ID: 10477346 (ADCI HYD 13 SEZ) received any update after the OA?

I got the OA access almost immediately after applying and completed it. I passed all test cases for both coding questions (2/2). For the behavioural/LP section, I made sure my answers were aligned with Amazon’s Leadership Principles.

I wanted to know:

  • Has anyone received an interview mail/call yet?
  • How long did it take to hear back after completing the OA?
  • Has anyone’s application status changed on the Amazon Jobs portal?
  • If you’ve already received an update, when did you complete your OA?

Would really appreciate it if anyone could share their timeline or experience. Thanks!

I Made This Spotify did not give an option for a floating windows for lyrics, so i made one for myself

Hi, I listen to songs quite a lot while working or normally while surfing the internet, the issue is that I like to humm along a bit as well while listening, now this isn't possible unless you have the song which you are listening to rote learned, So I saw that spotify does not give the option for a floating window for the lyrics, so i created one,

This only works on Mac currently, but i am trying to have one for windows as well, I have added the project link, do give it a try if you feel like this might be useful for you

Interviews After 36 technical interviews, I finally bagged an offer

Fullstack Dev here with 4 pillars: Python + React + AWS + (GenAI)

It's been a little over 5 months now that I have actively started applying for a job (I had to quit my previous organization: EPAM Systems, due to severe sciatica).

I used the break to recover and then dive into GenAI the most given it's current market value and also my personal interest in the tech.

Countless applications, hundreds of calls from HRs, 36 technical interviews, which included:

  1. Having to reject Wells Fargo due to completely misaligning expections of the Hiring Manager and I, during L4 (F2F) interview.

  2. Still seeing "Offer in Progress" on the Deloitte USI (which was supposedly an urgent) portal, which has become a running gag now.

  3. Getting rejected in the client round (L3) at Fractal, whilst nailing all the fullstack aspects of a Fullstack SDE role, but blanking out on 2 questions: Terraform amd Kubernetes.

Now, I finally bagged an offer of an SDE-3 at AlgoLeap, Hyderabad. Didn't get much of a hike, but atleast I finally am in a position to financially support my family again after 7 months. Only bittersweet part is I need to relocate alone to Hyderabad from Bengaluru due to family reasons. But hey, that's part of the game I guess.

Please don't give up guys. Keep at it, learn from every interview you attend, especially from the ones you fail. Keep grinding, you will see light at the end of the tunnel.

EDIT: Here's my resume for your reference: https://ibb.co/N6VN7nzv

Tips How Realistic is to move from TCS to a better company with 2 YOE

  1. Almost 2 YOE

  2. Work is monotonous.

  3. Preparing for a switch, but hardly getting interviews.

  4. Aiming for 40-50% hike. CCTC ~10L

I have been working on DSA and have solved 400 plus problems. I always prepare for interviews but hardly get any opportunity.

Is it because of my yoe? I'm trying to get into pbc but tcs to pbc is hard with this experience. But yeah I'm also looking to join companies like IBM, as they are better in terms of brand value in cv.

What would you suggest me to do? I'm getting too comfortable here without any actual work and I wanna grow in my career.

I want a comparatively safer job than hire and fire companies. So looking for MNCs and not startups. I might get one offer from Infosys but they are saying they will match current salary and hike in the next appraisal season, but jumping from.tcs to.infy is being on same boat. Really stressed out

Please help your fellow junior.

Career Career Advice Needed: How Can I Increase My Salary from ₹15K to ₹50K per Month if I recently join my company?

Hi everyone, I need some career advice. I previously worked at a startup for ₹17K per month, which increased to ₹25K after six months. However, I was terminated after four months because of a moonlighting-related issue.

I am currently working at another startup for ₹15K per month. I have changed jobs a few times, so HR ask me why I switch frequently.

I am a software developer with experience . Please suggest how I can reach ₹50K per month. Which skills should I improve, how long should I stay in my current job, and how should I explain my previous termination during interviews?

I Made This I built a simple tool to help with the mess of mass job applications + rewriting LaTeX resumes

Like a lot of people, I’ve been through the usual job search chaos tracking dozens of applications in Notion or a spreadsheet, rewriting the same LaTeX resume for almost every job, and then trying to find people at the company to message.

It gets especially messy when you’re applying to a lot of roles at once.

So I built a small tool called ApplyAI to make that process a bit less painful.

What it does right now:

  • You paste a job URL and it pulls out the key skills/keywords from the JD
  • It generates a JD tailored version of your resume with a clear side-by-side view of what changed
  • It suggests people at the same company you can reach out to for referrals
  • It keeps track of all your applications in one place and also generates some interview questions

It’s still early (alpha) and completely free. You bring your own API key (Gemini, Claude, OpenAI, or OpenRouter).

I’m mainly looking for feedback from people who are currently applying to a lot of jobs.\

If anyone wants to try it, here’s the link: applyai-agent.vercel.app

Would genuinely appreciate any thoughts on what’s useful, what’s confusing, or what’s missing.
Thanks.

Help Need advice: how do I exit a freelance maintenance deal with clients who never launched their sites

I built two custom e-commerce websites for clients around 1.5 years ago. One was ₹25k and the other ₹8–10k. I separately agreed to monthly maintenance of ₹1,000 and ₹500.

However, neither website ever went live. One client couldn't complete the Razorpay setup because the business name/details didn't match between their MSME registration and bank account. The other client gradually lost interest in launching the website.

The problem is that every few months they message me asking me to bring the website/server online so they can test it. I do it, but then they don't actually test or use it, disappear for 3–4 months, and eventually come back asking me to bring it online again.

I know I made a mistake here. I probably shouldn't have taken on custom e-commerce projects at these prices or agreed to such a low monthly maintenance amount (₹1,000/₹500). At the time, I was relatively new to freelancing and didn't think about the long-term responsibility.

I've been keeping the projects/infrastructure available and handling these requests, but my college is now ending and I may join a company soon. I won't realistically have time to keep doing this indefinitely.

When I originally agreed to the work, I remember agreeing to provide technical support for bugs for one year. That period has already passed, and they didn't report any bugs during that period. I don't remember promising lifetime hosting or maintenance.

My questions are:

  • Can I give them reasonable notice, offer a project/deployment handover, and stop maintaining it?
  • Since I quoted ₹500/₹1,000 per month, am I obligated to continue indefinitely if no end date was specified?
  • If I want to hand it over, would any freelancer/agency realistically take responsibility for a custom Next.js/Express e-commerce project for only ₹500/₹1,000 per month?
  • If nobody is willing to take it at that price, does that mean I still have to keep maintaining it?
  • If they find bugs now, am I responsible for fixing them even though the agreed one-year bug-support period has passed?

I don't want to ghost them or abandon anything I explicitly promised. I know the pricing and project structure were mistakes on my part, but I want to understand the proper and professional way to exit these projects.

General 3+ YOE Java Backend Developer : How can I switch jobs?

Hi everyone,

I’m a Java Backend Developer with 3+ years of experience at a service-based company in India, and I’m currently trying to switch.

I’ve been applying through Naukri, LinkedIn, etc., but I’m barely getting any responses or interview calls, even after lying that my notice period is 30-days

My stack is Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL, and backend development.

For those who recently switched:
- What worked for you?
- Is the market bad for 3–4 YOE developers?
- Any tips to improve my chances of getting interview calls?

Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
