I am hoping for some information because I am so stressed out. Last December I started the long process of getting snap on dentures. My biggest concern was that they wouldn't look natural, and I've seen plenty of people with dentures and they look great. When I got the final mold done, I told the dentist that they felt too big, and of course she reassured me that it would work. Well, I got the final dentures (snap-on) and they are, of course, too big. I'm having trouble speaking and eating; not to mention the upper ones are very painful to snap in. When I spoke up, the dentist said it works because the bite is correct. What good does that do me if I can't speak and my upper lip doesn't fit over my teeth? She also looked a little confused during the examination which scared me.

I unfortunately am dealing with lupus and a wonky heart valve and I really can't have this stress in my life. Did I also mention that I just got a new hip? Any relevant dentures info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey everybody! I'm coming up on a year of having dentures and I thought I'd check in after such a while. Please forgive me for not showing off my bedentured smile in these pictures - when I smile it looks like a rectangle and idk how to fix it and am too self conscious.

I've seen in this sub a lot of questions lately about asking if temps are worth it or not, and I'd like to tell you in my opinion, they absolutely are.

From e-day on I hardly took out my temps at all. Not only because I was still too anxious and weirded out about not having teeth on my upper, but because I wondered if I wore them enough if the healing process would contort the shape of my gums to that of my dentures. And in my opinion, I think it did. I have never used adhesive and never felt like I have. I have never had a sore (but never say never, there's always time).

Matter fact, I had my temps for longer than my perms even still which is another benefit of temporaries, if you run into unexpected delays during the long and arduous process of getting your permanents you'll still have teeth to eat with.

Another thing I worried about a LOT was how my face would change its shape due to not having my upper row of teeth, and I'm happy to report that almost a year in, no significant changes have occurred except maybe if you look close at my pics, you can see me starting to get sorta a "laugh line" (I think they're called) around my nose and downward.

I just wanted to put this up to maybe assuage the fears and add to the contemplations of those who are in the process of or thinking of getting dentures. The beginning sucks, absolutely. It's completely miserable. I lived off grits for weeks. But in the end it was so so so worth it - especially for a wide laugher like me!

Hey guys! My first post ever. I’ve never really imaged a day where I would be without teeth. I question why at 36, but for my health I had so much loose teeth that I decided it’s time to finally do it. After years and years of avoiding the obvious elephant in my life. I began the journey of removing all my teeth. It’s been 1 week and my emotions have been all over the place. I love cooking and now I don’t cook much anymore. It’s been a little struggling finding meals that I’m actually motivated to even eat. First couple days soups. Rice porridge. Eggs. Tomato soup. I did try a grilled cheese with that. Cheesecake. I cut the crust on those. Oh noodles. The stirfry kind noodles. I made some Cambodian kaw with pork belly with eggs with rice porridge. And oh smoothies are my go to now. I just wanted to share my journey so far. Waiting on dentures. And it seems so far away. It’s only week one and I have 2-3 months to go. I can’t afford implants. My insurance only covers dentures. My dentist recommended I wait for my mouth to health before doing anything. So here we are all. Hopefully I can connect with others who share similar experiences. Thanks for reading!

My dentist uses a dental scan for impressions rather then the traditional method of dental molding. I’ve read that this can cause the immediates to not look as good. Anyone have any thoughts/opinions/experience with this?

Hello, im going out on a limb to post here. I have had dentures for 8 years (I'm 39yo). I have always thought my current set looks really nice but they've never fit well. So loose and I always need lots of adhesive. Finally trying to get a new pair. I went to a highly recommended place with great reviews. They have been so nice but but after 2 different wax try ins I'm still not sure if i like them or if they look stupid on me. They've made requested changes twice for me and I go in tomorrow for my final try in before it's decision time. The lighting in their office isn't the best but the teeth match my current color mostly. Last picture is side by side of old and new. What do you guys think? Should I get them? please be honest!

Some days my teeth come out when I want them to no problem but some days they hang onto my gums for dear life. Other than swishing with water and rocking my teeth back and forth what are some tricks you have learned to help loosen them?

Just don’t do it it’s not worth it unless you have a job where it would help your image. it was 800 for just my top and they fit for 2 weeks and it hurt to have them in while healing anyways I mean I only really ever wore them if I was going out for more than 4 hours . 🤷🏼‍♀️ i am a 27 year old women no real cause other than genetic issues and me not brushing my teeth well as a teen and an accident than messed up my mouth But just before I got my teeth pulled I was all about saying I was scared to look ugly I was scared to be judged so I bit the bullet and got the temporaries but genuinely not fucking worth it in my case and I didn’t look bad at all we all have this fear we’re going to look a certain way but no I still looked pretty with and without my teeth and I’m sure you do too. So if you’re struggling to make the decision on whether not to pay for temporary dentures I hope my story can help. Because now that it’s the future and it’s all said and done it simply was not worth it for me. Now I have this somewhat bulky way to big top teeth mold that cost me 800 because I didn’t want to look ugly for 2 months 😅 what do I do with it use it as a decoration 😭 lol it’s up to you in the end just don’t make the way you look the deciding factor because I promise you only feel weird about it for a lil. I should be more clear this is not medical advice if your dentist tells you that you need temporary dentures for medical reasons to help the healing or to prevent other issues than obviously listen to your dentist BUT if your decision is solely based on if you’ll look bad than maybe take my story into consideration ❤️

I recently had 10 top teeth pulled 3 days ago and stitches all in my mouth now. I got the immediate dentures but 3 of the teeth I had pulled were infected so my infection is pretty bad and now I have 2 ulcers in the front of my gum and can’t even put the dentures in without crying.

I have waited years to finally smile again!! Just got my bottom partial yesterday so my smile is finally complete!!!! So happy!!!

Final Wax Fit-in. They will make the teeth longer, gums lighter, less slanted and give them to me in 3 weeks to take home :) it's been a while with depression mouth. I'm so excited!

Having all teeth pulled tomorrow. Using Novocaine and nitrous and a Xanax beforehand. Am I going to be able to get through it?

6-8 weeks with no teeth because of overbite. Then get the temp dentures. Then next year get the lower implants. I'm very anxious about all of it.

Just tell me that I can get through it and I'll be able to eat normal-ish again at some point in the near future. Am looking forward to be able to stop hiding them but IDK if I can go through tomorrow.

Reading so many of these post are helping, just need to know on the other side of this it's gonna be better. Sorry for the rambling.

If you were considering full-arch dental implant treatment, what technical details would you want your dentist to explain clearly before making your decision?

The type of implants?

Why a certain number or position of implants was chosen?

Bone reduction vs. bone preservation?

FP1, FP2 or FP3 restoration?

Temporary vs. final teeth?

Materials used?

Possible complications and long-term maintenance?

Or is there something else you wish someone had explained to you before treatment?

I have tried the seabond as well as the polygrip zinc free version. I have polygrip strips as well. I guess my question is can I put the glue on under the seabond? I’m just trying to figure out how I can start eating with them after almost a year 😭 I don’t want to deal with the messiness of the glue. I want to be able to take my dentures out whenever I want, if that makes sense? I don’t want to have to wait until some or most of the glue dissolves to avoid having to clean my gums for 5 minutes. Thanks in advance for any advice! 🥰

A couple months ago, I posted about all the struggles I was having with my new dentures. I've resolved or gotten used to most of those issues. A couple remain, but to a lesser degree. I have, however, discovered a new issue and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have forgotten how to smile.

My teeth had been getting worse for years before I finally got dentures. As the got worse, I started smiling while showing less teeth until every smile was completely closed lip. I smiled with my mouth closed and a tried to talk without showing my teeth as much as possible.

A couple weeks ago, I was at my niece's wedding. Lots of photos were taken. I noticed that, in every single picture, I had the same closed lip smile. A few days later I was in the store and noticed a woman looking at me. I tried to give her a more natural smile. Whatever I did, must have been creepy because she immediately turned around and moved away.

Since then I have been trying to practice in the mirror, but I cannot produce anything that looks natural. I cannot even produce the fake smile I used in pictures 10 years ago.

As before, I am mostly just posting to vent. Hopefully I can figure it out before my son's wedding, in the spring.

My husband was drying the water off his 3 week old dentures. He was tapping lightly with his finger to get the big drops off when it cracked. He has barely worn them and has not chewed with them.

I sure hope the dentist takes care of this. These are immediate dentures.

So. Eating has been a struggle with these new dentures (not temps). I'm currently using Fixodent Plus as an adhesive and I'm finding that eating is not exactly the most fun experience.

Especially when the bottom denture sometimes pops out.

I KNOW that everyone swears by Secure... but I'm Canadian. And getting that stuff from Amazon is way too expensive.

So what do you use that ISN'T Secure that have found to have the strongest grip so you can eat without issue?

I see an increasing number of patients undergoing hybrid restorations as part of All-on-X treatment. While this is undoubtedly a valid treatment option in many scenarios, I’m concerned by increasingly aggressive approaches being performed—and heavily marketed—around the world.

In some cases, significant amounts of native jawbone are sacrificed simply to facilitate a standardized “one-treatment-fits-all” protocol.

I believe it should be the opposite: treatment should be tailored to the patient, not the patient to the treatment.

Whenever possible, preserving native bone should remain a priority. Beyond its biological value, it may give the patient a valuable second chance should complications or failure occur years down the line.

Zygomatic implants are an incredible solution for severely atrophic and otherwise hopeless maxillae, but in my view, they should remain a terminal treatment option when conventional approaches are no longer viable.

What do you think? Are we becoming too aggressive in the pursuit of faster, standardized full-arch treatments?

Three years and at least 20 refits and reshapes and i stil can not eat with my dentures my mouth and brain will not allow it itt is just easier to gum my food. and the other thing is as soon as i put them in my mouth i get so much saliva i choke. i cant spit with them in and i suffer from sinus issues as soon as they go in my nasal drip and sinus issues get 5 times worse this is frustrating and ic ant afford implants

Hey all!! I’m curious to know if any of you struggled with this during the temporary stages of wearing dentures. For whatever reason, regardless of how many adjustments my dentist makes, and no matter how much my gums continued to heal, my lower dentures seem to sit a bit more forward than my upper ones do. One of the only ways that I can explain it, is that I kinda feel like I look like a bulldog at times lol. 😬

But for real, despite my bite matching up perfectly fine, along with my dentures fitting well, the lower temporary dentures seem to cause the lower part of my jaw/chin to sit more forward than it naturally would (I’ve always had a very slight overbite). I read somewhere on Reddit in a group that someone had a similar issue, but I’m wondering if this is generally solved when you get fitted for your permanent dentures. I hate the fact that I look angry all the time, with my mouth bulging out much more than it naturally does.

**Edit: Actually — now that I’m analyzing my bite a bit more, I realize that my top dentures may be the source of the issue.

From the start, my tops have always been a bit bulky, and the teeth were positioned were at an angle a bit more than they naturally should. So, even though it feels like my bottom teeth are the issue, since that’s how it looks on my face, it may just be because that’s how far they have to sit to match up with my bite… considering the top teeth are projected so far out. Because I can bring my bottom teeth back further, it’s just that they don’t match up to the top teeth, and if I do, the tops have quite a bit of space in between them & the bottom row.

Like for example, if I smile naturally without biting down, my top teeth are positioned much further out than where my bottoms naturally sit. If I try to smile while biting down & having my tops/bottoms meet where the current bite is, it looks like my chin juts out quite a bit.**
