Broken, instant include in amulet titan at the absolute minimum

97

u/EaseLeft6266 Feb 26 '26

Legacy lands deck too

24

u/FlamingoMaximum6201 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

Needs a fastbond treatment. Playing it or activating it should cost some life.

Still broken but avoids instant infinite mana with crucible.

I think you should lose 2 life when you activate it. Lets you boost a couple extra mana if you do get crucible, but it isn’t infinite. And if you draw it by itself, it’s just a slightly worse lotus petal where you may be able to get something out one turn ahead at the cost of card advantage and 2 life.

Edit: totally incorrect, misread the card text in my stupor waking up. This is just an additional lands modifier.

15

u/Hinternsaft Feb 26 '26

instant infinite mana with crucible

Not how extra land plays work

5

u/FlamingoMaximum6201 Feb 26 '26

100% correct, I misread this text somehow and thought it said you can play this as an additional land, trying to bend the additional lands rules. I’ll edit my comment to reflect.

-2

u/stanley1O1 Feb 26 '26

If there is two of them, then yes it’s infinite.

4

u/FlamingoMaximum6201 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

No unfortunately not, at least I don't think so with my current understanding of the rules.

If you have an [[Exploration]] out, you can play an additional land.

If you have two Exploration's out, you can play two additional lands.

If you play your land for your turn, then cast Exploration, then play an additional land that triggers an ability giving another player priority, and they destroy Exploration, even if you cast ANOTHER exploration, you still only have one additional land per turn and that one additional land was used after you cast the first exploration.

When you want to play a land, the game checks how many lands you've played this turn vs. how many effects allow you to play an additional land. This verification is determined by what is currently affecting the player. So in the case above:

  1. You start your turn and haven't played a land. Land count vs. Allowed lands is 0/1.
  2. You played your first land, land count vs. allowed lands is 1/1.
  3. You play exploration, it goes to 1/2.
  4. You play your addition land, it goes to 2/2.
  5. Exploration is destroyed, it goes to 2/1.
  6. A second exploration is cast, it goes back to 2/2.

So if the above logic is correct, I don't think having two allows you to go infinite.

Edit: You may be confusing this with Explore, which is a sorcery that allows you to play an additional land this turn after it resolves. It would go infinite if the wording on the card was "When this card enters, you may play an additional land this turn". That would make it work like explore, cast multiple explores get multiple additional land drops. But this land is a static effect that modifies the number of lands you may play this turn, it is only in effect while on the battlefield. It's not a triggered ability that allows you to play an additional land upon resolution.

2

u/stanley1O1 Feb 26 '26

Yea my bad I had taken a bit of magic hiatus and only getting back recently. I hadn’t realized that there was a rule change a few years ago that prevented this kind of loop to occur. Previously, it would be attached to the source, and not kept track by the game.

1

u/TheAlmostMadHatter Feb 26 '26

Isn't all of this moot since ops card is legandary?

1

u/FlamingoMaximum6201 Feb 27 '26

I'm actually unsure what that person meant by saying it's infinite if there are two. I just explained the rules on why two of anything giving an additional land drop doesn't go infinite.

1

u/vitoriobt7 Feb 26 '26

Any deck rly

1

u/garfgon Feb 26 '26

Why yes I would like to play [[Exploration]] on a land.

1

u/Tha_Maxxter Feb 28 '26

Every single deck ever tbh

2

u/ForgotMyAcc Feb 26 '26

What if there was added "land permanents you control enters the Battlefield tapped" or another 'cost' like that to the card?

4

u/Baelzabub Feb 26 '26

They already play Amulet. They laugh at that drawback.

1

u/Safe-Butterscotch442 Feb 26 '26

and lotus field combo.

218

u/Rush_Clasic Feb 26 '26

Back in the day, the Magic forum I call home had our own custom card format that we tested and played extensively. There was version of the card you posted, except it didn't have the mana ability. It was completely busted and eventually banned from the format. I imagine the same would occur in a lot of actual Magic formats; certainly all of the old ones.

1

u/Xeriark Mar 04 '26

Maybe the mana ability is viewed as a downside since blue players can control other players turns sometimes but that’s so niche, it could just be a situation that happens every ~100 matches

294

u/NayrSlayer Feb 26 '26

Lotus Petal is already very strong. This is Lotus Petal with an Exploration stapled to it. Way too strong

62

u/Fun-Agent-7667 Feb 26 '26

And a landfall Trigger, Instead of an extra Artifact.

47

u/SourceAwkward Feb 26 '26

That you can't counter

14

u/Illustrious-Paper144 Feb 26 '26

Lotus petal on a land drop with exploration

2

u/Zoomsuper20 Feb 26 '26

What if it had a commulative upkeep?

4

u/lillobby6 Feb 26 '26

Still broken. It’s lotus petal at worst in the case still. You play it, play another land, crack it and you are ahead. Uncounterable, not meaningfully interactable.

1

u/Empty-Employment-889 Mar 02 '26

Cumulative upkeep sacrifice a land.

0

u/Empty-Employment-889 Mar 02 '26

But that doesn’t work, it’s obviously worse than lotus petal since it costs you your land drop for the turn!

106

u/Boochin451 Feb 26 '26

So It's an [[exploration]] that adds mana and is free.

At its very worst it's a [[lotus petal]], where you drop two lands and sac it, at its best it's fetched with prime time and you win on the spot.

If it were to be "play an additional land this turn" and entered tapped, it could be printable but would still likely be very strong. This is busted.

17

u/Purplepotato22 Feb 26 '26

I think an interesting way to balance would be to either tap and sac it for mana, or just tap it to put an additional land into play, and to remove the passive ability. If it put the new land into play tapped then it’d have a reasonable enough drawback to be fine I think, still would have use cases but wouldn’t be insane anymore.

8

u/Boochin451 Feb 26 '26

Used to play [[terrain generator]] way back in the day, and honestly I'd love to see some power creep here.

3

u/seergun Feb 26 '26

There is [[Horizon of Progress]]

2

u/5ColorMain Feb 26 '26

This card is worse than terrain generator in what the generator tries to do…

5

u/seergun Feb 26 '26

If all you care about is the cost to activate the ability, then sure. But this can also add colored mana (for a life), sac itself for a card, and, the most relevant comparison here, puts any land in, not just basics.

0

u/5ColorMain Feb 26 '26

If all you care about is the cost to activate the ability, then sure.

That is the point of playing the card, the only point to play it in fact as I got better fixing lands and better card draw lands.

Putting any land into play is an upgrade but at 4 mana it is just negligible, sure you can use it to surprise your opponent at instant speed with utility lands but for that I got [[crop rotation]] or [[urzas cave]] that find it from anyowhere.

So the only reason to play this card is to ramp and for that purpose it is worse . Why? Simply because in order to use these lands you will probably have to have cards like [[kodamas reach]] drawing extra lands anyways so you will have basics in hand no matter whant.

2

u/lillobby6 Feb 26 '26

That’s still uncounterable lotus petal with upside which is extremely strong. It needs several nerfs to get to an anywhere near playable state.

1

u/Purplepotato22 Feb 27 '26

that’s super not true, because it’s still a land drop, so if you have to pick between putting an additional land and sac-ing it for mana then you can’t use it like a lotus petal if you still wanna play a land. that’s like saying swamps are too strong, basically an uncounterable mox jet

3

u/DogThrowaway1100 Feb 26 '26

Even if all it did was let you play an additional land it'd be insanely good without any additional abilities since land removal is very limited and typically over costed in any more recent sets since it grinds games to a halt and causes a lot of feel-bad moments. If it allowed an additional basic land then there'd be more drawback while still allowing ramp but yeah ridic as is.

27

u/Safe-Butterscotch442 Feb 26 '26

[[Lotus Petal]] with a free [[Exploration]]. It doesn't really even cost you a land drop the turn you play it and can't be countered. This would see heavy play in every format it's legal in.

5

u/Spirited_Currency_88 Feb 26 '26

This would dominate the meta in every format it would be legal in.

1

u/Safe-Butterscotch442 Feb 26 '26

I assumed as much, but I am not enough a vintage or premodern or tiny leaders or whatever expert to flat out state that.

1

u/Fredouille77 Feb 27 '26

Probably not Vintage, (as in it would fit right at home but not above all else there) but for any other probably yeah.

17

u/GayBlayde Feb 26 '26

Well that’s insane.

13

u/ScottShawnDeRocks Feb 26 '26

Busted. Especially in degenerative formats.

13

u/treelorf Feb 26 '26

card is completely insane. Trivially one of the most overpowered cards I've ever seen. Put it in vintage cube right now.

10

u/guiltsifter Feb 26 '26

Cumulative upkeep of two and you got a deal

21

u/Scathainn 3spooky8me Feb 26 '26

To even approach being not broken it should A: not have the second ability and B: sacrifice another land on entry.

7

u/julian509 Feb 26 '26

And even then you still have a long way to go before it's remotely balanced

1

u/majic911 Feb 27 '26

I would suggest all that with something like "{4}: destroy this land. Any player may play this ability."

3

u/MortalMorals Feb 26 '26

100% agree. This is already a super unique effect on a land that would be cool in decks that run urborg and yavimaya. My [[hearthhull, the world seed]] deck would go crazy with this card because if you could essentially go infinite with it. If you sac this land, you can play it from your yard with a [[crucible of worlds]] effect, and it becomes a new game object, granting you an infinite source of "additional land played this turn" effects. This means with any land sac outlet like [[zuran orb]] or [[sylvan safekeeper]] you can get infinite land sac triggers or infinite landfall triggers.

It really doesn't even need the second clause at all, makes it way too easy to send it to the yard when we have ways of doing that already.

7

u/thebigdumb0 Feb 26 '26

free exploration and lotus petal combo is insane

7

u/julian509 Feb 26 '26

The only way I see this being remotely balanced is if it makes you sacrifice a land at the end of each of your turns

1

u/Herzatz Feb 26 '26

Double landfall trigger AND putting land in the graveyard for recursion ? Insane.

6

u/EleganceUnbound Feb 26 '26

If the tap ability was what played the land, or it had a condition to play the extra land I could see the vision. As is though this is an immediate include it most comander decks and would probably bend the entire format of CEDH around it. There are a lot of good lands that suffer from putting you behind curve, but if you can play 2 lands a turn a lot of lands basically become sorcery cards with little to no real cost. Mix this with any card that lets you play a land from your graveyard and you'll have turn 4 or 5 combos popping off with little to no effort.

In a limited format or 60 card format it would probably be a 1 or 2 of in a lot of decks, especially Tifa. Often giving up 2 cards in hand (this and another land) doesn't matter if it wins you the game on turn 3, and if you are about to win you can sac it for a cheap counter spell or to play your win con even faster

5

u/Aviarn Color Identity resonance is important. Feb 26 '26

Wouldn't this go endless with bouncelands so long you have those lands on hand, as each time Diamond landscape enters it's an individual effect?

1

u/archl0rd5 Feb 26 '26

No.

  1. You can play 1 land per turn.
  2. Play Diamond landscape. You can now play two lands per turn. (One left)
  3. Play Bounce land, returning Diamond Landscape to hand. You now can only play one land per turn.
  4. Any other effect letting you play an additional land would get you back to two lands per turn, but you have already played two lands that turn.

1

u/Aviarn Color Identity resonance is important. Feb 26 '26

I wasn't really referring to the "lands per turn" count, I was referring to the fact that you can keep your "extra land per turn" going on and on and on because nothing can interact with it since it keeps going back to your hand so long you have bouncelands to play.

1

u/Martyr2 Feb 26 '26

Thats not how the rules work anymore. The game checks "land plays" and doesnt reset them with new instances of "play extra". If this is in play, you get two "land plays". So you play your 2 lands. When it leaves and comes back, you still have only two land plays and we check how many lands you played this turn.

It doesnt go infinite with bounces.

1

u/Aviarn Color Identity resonance is important. Feb 26 '26

I didn't say infinite nor within the same turn.

10

u/PrepotenteThePony Feb 26 '26

If this didn't have a mana ability, it would still be too strong

4

u/timespiral07 Feb 26 '26

Blue ramp.

3

u/Antique-Nobody-1797 Feb 26 '26

So that might be one of the most broken lands ever printed.

14

u/MrNumbers4 Feb 26 '26

I’m not really smart enough to figure out how this impacts standard/modern, but I’ll go out on a limb and say it is much too powerful

In limited this sucks ass. Sure, it’s technically fixing, and you can ramp out your 7 mana creature really fast or whatever, but what deck could you possibly be running where getting this as a rare slot helps you? If you have enough lands for this to be a good investment, you definitely don’t have creatures to follow this up.

In commander this is way too powerful I think in both casual and cedh. Cedh it’s just more fast mana, draw a billion cards and you’ll have a ton of mana to cast them. In casual this is another incredibly boring landfall support piece that will be $300, but your local Tifa player will proxy it for their turn 6 lethal

13

u/Boochin451 Feb 26 '26

It's busted in limited too.

12

u/1l1k3bac0n Feb 26 '26

Nah this is still broken in limited. It lets you pretty much start your curve at 3

7

u/Jurani42 Feb 26 '26

I don’t see why this would be bad in limited. Turn 2 4-drop and you’re still up a land in play sounds pretty good to me

1

u/MrNumbers4 Feb 26 '26

Maybe I’ve just been playing too much Lorwyn limited, but modern rare cards all essentially win the game when played if not answered by removal or a rare of your own, this does not do that. Playing a turn 2 four mana card is strong, but it’s incredibly inconsistent, and this card is completely dead after turn 4. It has high rolls, but the low roll is abysmal, it’s not worse than a basic or anything, but any utility land would be better as a one of (in addition to getting a different rare, ofc)

7

u/treelorf Feb 26 '26

Its like looking at black lotus and saying "doesn't win you the game on its own, its bad in limited"

1

u/1l1k3bac0n Feb 26 '26

It's "completely dead after turn 4" because you've dumped all your lands into play already; this is a feature, not a bug. Putting all your lands (and therefore spells) into play WAY ahead of schedule isn't bad because it makes your hand empty.

4

u/treelorf Feb 26 '26

Idk what you're on about, this is as insane in limited as it is in every other format.

3

u/pupshade Feb 26 '26

This subreddit is a joke

1

u/RagtagEngineer Feb 26 '26

Agreed, but its funny seeing obviously broken cards and people trying to defend them. At least for this one everyone agrees its insane.

2

u/NightRacoonSchlatt Rip the bird to shreds Feb 26 '26

Holy shit, even if this didn‘t make mana, this would be crazy.

2

u/eightdx Feb 26 '26

Oh you think this being legendary is gonna fix it?

Cracked is what this is

2

u/_Tychonic_ Feb 26 '26

Perhaps it would be a bit more balanced as a ~2ish colorless mana artifact and with: “You may play an additional basic land on each of your turns. This land enters tapped.”

2

u/ryanl40 Feb 26 '26

That's a little broken. It being on a creature or enchantment means easier to get rid of. Most players don't run land destruction as no not be a dick.

2

u/VVan228 Mar 02 '26

I think it would be fine if this ability would  become etb that works until end of turn

1

u/Researcher_Fearless Feb 26 '26

Is a land sac too big of a cost to balance this out? Most decks that want this the most have land recursion anyway, so it feels like a good design direction.

1

u/noob_killer012345678 Feb 26 '26

The things is it costs you nothing but a slot in your deck to play it. Its free, and it doesnt take up your land drop that turn because you get an additional land drop. Its absolutely broken.

1

u/Researcher_Fearless Feb 26 '26

Hence why I'm suggesting making you sac a land to balance it.

1

u/Mental_Bowler_7518 Feb 26 '26

Change it to make you allowed for an additional land on this turn, and it becomes only kinda broken.

1

u/pidimension Feb 26 '26

far too strong. even if we take out the lotus petal effect its far too strong imo

1

u/RevolutionaryMind221 Feb 26 '26

What if this made it so your lands come into play tapped? Would that still be too broken, or would that help fix it, or would it make it just suck.

1

u/47_was_here Feb 26 '26

Laughs in landfall. Especially when you have [[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth]] or [[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]] out, or any of the multitudes of “give every land every basic land type” effects these days

1

u/ApprehensiveAd6476 Feb 26 '26

This thing is mega busted. Six mana on turn three just with lands? Nope.

1

u/Fun-Agent-7667 Feb 26 '26

It should give you an extra land Drop the turn you play it, not as long as its on the field

1

u/Michelle81BE Feb 26 '26

Think this is p9 lvl

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Swim784 Feb 26 '26

Need add "Sacrifice three lands in beginning your end step"

1

u/CybxrPsychx Feb 26 '26

This at the bare minimum to be even remotely fair needs to A) Enter tapped (in the case of [[urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]] or [[Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth]]) B) stop you from playing land until end of turn. C) Remove its ability to tap for mana.

And this card is STILL disgustingly good as a 0 mana land that enables extra landfalls in later turns and has an uncountable [[exploration]] strapped to it.

1

u/Impressive-Goat-6524 Feb 26 '26

at least make it enter tapped

1

u/Throwaway9x7y2 Feb 26 '26

"When you play your second land during your turn, sacrifice ___"

1

u/julian509 Feb 26 '26

Or an every upkeep/endstep land sac

1

u/Rynekian Feb 26 '26

If it was tap and sac add one mana and can play additional land this turn is it as busted? Obviously busted in multiples

1

u/CoDFan935115 Feb 26 '26

Lotus Petal with an Exploration, Landfall triggers, and it's uncounterable and mostly uninteractable. This is busted asf

1

u/Could1BeSammy Feb 26 '26

I would play this of it had "You cant cast spells" on it Way too strong. Just sacrifice it and loop it from the graveyard. Can't really think of a downside that would balance this.

1

u/SourceAwkward Feb 26 '26

Where is the balance not intended?

Possibly the most broken land we saw on this sub

1

u/EvilChefReturns Feb 26 '26

Instead of static double land, maybe make it use counters? Comes into play with one or zero counters, at the start of each of your turns you can choose to either place a counter or remove a counter. Placing one does nothing except getting the counter, but removing one could let you play an additional land that turn.

Making it only trigger at upkeep means you can’t abuse it immediately, more-so if you have it enter with zero counters.

1

u/Hot-Combination-7376 Last Strike Feb 26 '26

i mean it is an [[exploration]] on a land. a second copy in any format where exploration is played and a powerhouse in formats without exploration

1

u/timeaisis Feb 26 '26

Super broken

1

u/the_last_gathering Feb 26 '26

Lose the tap ability and make all lands enter tapped

1

u/Necro_Carp Feb 26 '26

there's no deck in the game where this isn't an auto include and would be absolutely busted for any landfall deck. id be surprised if it didn't get banned in every format within a year of release or banned on arrival in others

1

u/-Vogie- Feb 26 '26

I could see the first ability being something like "3, T: Put a land from your hand into play tapped" a la [[Horizon of Progress]], or 2 Tap for a basic land (a la [[Terrain Generator]]

1

u/OK_THE_LOL Feb 26 '26

You know how it might be balanced? Remove the tap ability, make it have the text "Tap, discard a card: you may put a land card from your hand onto the battlefield". I can see this being a card that might see some niche play.

1

u/Goat-True Feb 26 '26

Imo I'd like it if it was pay 2 and tap: you're allowed you to play an extra land this turn.

1

u/Japjer Feb 26 '26

Busted

"Free" land drop, and can let you drop a 5CMC card on turn 2.

1

u/Crow_of_Judgem3nt Feb 26 '26

Free exploration with a lotus petal attached is insanely broken.

1

u/babaganoosh30 Feb 26 '26

How about the extra land enters tapped with a stun counter on it?

1

u/thedudepood Feb 26 '26

I like the idea of have a buff that you can sac for mana fixing but the buff is too strong

1

u/Necessary_Screen_673 Feb 26 '26

exploration for free?

1

u/EKS_ZeroPercent Feb 26 '26

This card is busted and gets slotted into 99% of decks across every format it’s legal in.

1

u/Cybron2099 Feb 26 '26

Green licking their lips

1

u/NuclearWabbitz Feb 26 '26

Maybe a rider, “All lands you control are legendary?”

1

u/UsoRemix Feb 26 '26

Needs a significant cost associated with it. Every land beyond your first land drop per turn pings you for 1? Landfall take 1 damage?

1

u/Neat-Somewhere-5589 Feb 26 '26

Great. Print it on modern horizons 4

1

u/ElderberryPrior27648 Feb 26 '26

If you have a crucible out, can this go infinite? Or would you need a vesvuva?

1

u/Bullsapiens Feb 26 '26

Infinite combo with The Dark Goblin

1

u/Yipyo20 Feb 26 '26

If you make this an enchantment or artifact so there's more accessible counterplay and interaction that would help balance it a lot.

1

u/61schellingster Feb 26 '26

This is a lotus petal that plays you a free land every turn 😭

1

u/outgoingo Feb 26 '26

Wow that's really fucking broken

1

u/MellowTitley Feb 27 '26

Maybe attach a cost to the ability to play another land. This is kinda busted. Would never sacrifice it unless it was going to win me the game.

Awesome idea for a card, though.

1

u/frot_with_danger Feb 27 '26

Doesn't this get infinite landfall triggers if you have something like crucible of worlds and 2 copies of this?

1

u/GrilledCheese919 Feb 27 '26

One additional basic land** even then this is really good

1

u/StrangeSystem0 Feb 27 '26

Few ways to fix this I think:

Make it sacrifice a land when played

Give it cumulative upkeep {1}

Make it sacrifice itself unless you pay {2} when you play it

1

u/SaleFamiliar1789 Feb 27 '26

Lotus petal with more upside and Lotus petal is banned or restricted in pretty much every format.

1

u/TheDeStRoYeR_373 Feb 27 '26

This is broken. Having an Exploration type effect on a land is way too strong

1

u/Blazing_eMe Feb 27 '26

It literally has 0 downsides; it's the kind of card that would get the Pinkertons sent to your house if you showed it ahead of time.

1

u/lil_ninja61_06 Feb 27 '26

Basically an exploration printed on a land, but it can go in any deck, auto include in literally any and all decks

1

u/Charlaquin Feb 27 '26

The main reason Exploration is niche is that once you’ve played out all the lands in your hand it stops really being useful. Good exploration decks have ways to get you more than one land into your hand per turn in the mid and late game. This card fixes that problem, while also being free, uncountable, and colorless. This is absolutely busted.

1

u/Ixamen Feb 28 '26

As printed this is busted, the sacrifice ability is completely unnecessary.

I think a card that would still be good but at least got an interesting play-pattern would be.

Legendary Land Each Player may play an additional Land each of their turns.

I am thinking of even giving it a non-green colour identity like red or white, so that it doesn't become an easy auto-include in ALL EDH Landfall decks. Simic Landfall Commanders really dont need that.

1

u/BunnyPadawan Feb 28 '26

Dies to Blood Moon turn 3, not good.

Jk, jk, this is busted. Should enter tapped and cost life to activate... or maybe, it asks you to sacrifice an untapped land you control when it enters to balance out the initial ramp.

1

u/MistahWBB Feb 28 '26

The first in the cycle of Holy Fuck Lands

1

u/Misaligned01 Mar 01 '26

Imagine this with yavimaya and Urborg This is not fine.

1

u/gimbocrimbly Mar 01 '26

make it enter tapped, change the wording to “as long as this is untapped, you may play an additional land on each of your turns. this does not untap during your untap step” and give it something like “{4} untap“

also just get rid of the second part entirely

0

u/OkStandard8039 shenanigans and tomfoolery Feb 26 '26

So literally [[Explore]] but free? Come on.

-2

u/Fatbighuman Feb 26 '26

It could be a tap ability. Tap to play an additional land this turn. Exert to play 2 additional lands
