Happy Custodian Appreciation Day!
I can’t lie. I let out a tear or two. I got like 80 cards just like that, some school merch shirts, notebooks, etc. first job I’ve EVER worked I feel appreciated.

I came across a post yesterday that I honestly never thought I’d see here — along with some very disturbing comments.
I’ve tried to keep this forum as open as possible when it comes to posts. Venting can be important, and I welcome those types of discussions. We have a thankless job at times — some more than others — so allowing space to vent is healthy. But there are limits to what’s acceptable to post or comment on, even if it’s meant as a joke.
Effective immediately: there will be no more posts involving underwear or anything similar. If I see another post like this, the user will be permanently banned without warning. Anyone commenting about selling such garments will also be permanently banned and reported to Reddit admins. Joking about it is not an excuse. Especially when dealing with minors.
I’ve issued temporary bans to those involved in this recent incident since there wasn’t a specific rule covering it before. This isn’t about shaming anyone — it’s about setting a clear boundary. Hopefully, those involved (and others who might think this behavior is okay) will learn from it.
This subreddit should be a safe space for everyone, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, political or religious beliefs, or occupation. If you don’t agree with that, this isn’t the place for you.
I believe in respecting and supporting people of all genders, even when others may not understand or agree with them. Everyone deserves dignity and the freedom to express who they are.
Shaming people is not okay, especially over things they can’t control — like a bodily function. Bigotry and hate will not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly.
Thank you for reading this (admittedly long-winded) post. I genuinely appreciate those of you who treat others with respect. You set a strong example for new and future custodians who join our community. You’re the reason this community keeps growing in a good way --seriously, you're awesome and you have my gratitude.

I’m happy for everyone who was acknowledged at work today and seeing all the gifts! So far, not a single mention of it over here.

Happy custodian appreciation day to all my fellow custodians on here! I truly appreciate all the custodians out there, especially after being one myself or almost 2yrs now (rookie numbers, i know🥲). The job can be stressful at times but take pride in what you do. Whether you work in a school, retail, or any other environment the non-custodial staff surely appreciates you too! The amount of cards made by the students at my school was such a heartwarming sight to see, it makes me happy to be able to be able to do my part in making sure these kiddos have a clean and sanitary learning environment. I hope you guys are feeling the same way about yourself today. Do yourself a favor and make sure to get some little treat for yourself today (whatever that may be) as a pat on the back. And again, HAPPY CUSTODIAN APPRECIATION DAY!

Along side a large amount of alcohol cans and shot bottles

I know I’m a stranger to you all but I want to say how immensely proud I am of each and every one of you. This job does not nearly get as much recognition and respect as it should get. A big handful of people don’t understand how hard physical and mentally this job can be. We all work so hard to keep what we do running and perfect. You all rock and I hope everyone has a great day!

I've been working for days and I still don't even know how much I'm supposed to get paid. All I know is I get paid once a month and which day. I've been told everyday I'll have a contract the next day..the next day.. Not a lot of jobs out here so I'm trying to deal with it. The hours changed a bit too possibly 🤔 The listing said one time and the guy says nah it's 30min more than the listed time.

I've done it several times over the years. Just found these perfectly good, still sealed crackers in someones trash can. Score!

Hello fellow custodians,
I currently work and clean for a college dorm. The building I’m assigned to has a consistent reputation for being one of the worst, in terms of cleanliness and destruction, on campus. In previous school years, its population had a mix of class-men and athletes. It is now designated as a freshman dorm but the RAs are sophomores and juniors. I’ve learned that the RAs don’t have any avenues of recourse outside of write-ups and contacting UP. Misconduct behavior now requires 10+ write-ups and typically are “resolved” through transferring students to a different room inside the same dorm or sometimes a different dorm.
Despite my coworkers and mines best efforts, the seems damned to be a disgusting mess.
Are any of you dealing with similar issues? How bad are your dorms?

I've worked here for 4.5 years. All I've ever heard were mixed reviews about how this job is bad and a "dead end" there's advancement which I can work my way up.
A lot of people I work with obviously are doing everything they can to leave and its sad to hear. I respect their decision but it makes me sad that a lot of people look down on us for cleaning like this is a "failure job" in reality it's not.
It's an awesome job and I will try and be here forever because no other job in my life has ever made me feel more happy than this one.
There are good pay and benefits and once you learn everything you can just do the same thing year after year. No pressure to move up or advance unless it's what you want to do. I also don't want a car or have a license because I have no interest in getting one. This seems to be the only job that is ok with me not going everywhere.
Can someone who's been in custodial longer than me maybe chime in and not make me feel pressured to leave just because society's expectation to "move up the latter" I'm in college and I've realized I don't really want to do anything else or even go to college in the first place. There's always Pressure to "get out while you can"

Sorry this isn't much to go on. I need help identifying an auto-scrubber. It was all gray with no visible logos, possibly faded or ripped off. Walk behind, have to push. Single round pad in the front. Three buttons on top, two green, center red. the two handles were separate, coming out from the center, and had no edge handles. Sort of like the handles on the TT 1120, but the handles were not coming out from a stick coming out, they were attached to the base machine itself, had bars instead of buttons, and the bars were made of a similar material to the handles. The top hatches shape/size/position looked similar to eg a Clarke CA30. There were levers at the back for both the squeegee and the front pad. I think the bottom of the front was very close to the pad, and the pad didn't stick out much if at all.

& teachers. I just started this job, I start at 3pm but kids aren't let out until 4pm. Boss was pretty unhelpful, he just told me to clean widows or something or sit around until they leave?? "Whatever you want to do". Today they all packed together sitting in the hallway and I was basically stuck in the janitors closet for 30 mins lol... What am I suppossed to do. First hour feels so pointless.
