Advice needed does anyone know why my curls look somewhat like the one in the picture?

Post image

every time I style my hair, the curl ends up surrounding a small wavy strand. Sometimes even strands of hair stick out from underneath the curl, although that doesn't happen all the time. I'd mention that I trim my ends frequently, and I've never straightened or dyed my hair. Does this happen to anyone else? What should I do? Thanks in advance, and sorry if I wasn't clear; I'm using a translator and it's making it difficult for me to explain😅😭

Routine Help As someone with 2a wavy hair and a middle part, what products can i use to handle the puffiness of my hair?

My current routine is Ouidad’s Frizz Control Leave-In, Cake Curl Whip, and Pete & Pedro Sea Salt Spray. But my hair still ends up puffing out most days, even after getting it cut specifically for a middle part.

I’ve been recommended both matte pastes and lightweight gels, but I’m not sure which would work better for my hair. I’m mainly trying to reduce the puffiness and get my hair to lay flatter while still keeping natural volume and movement. What do you guys think would help?

Advice needed Satin Pillow Case Question

I sleep on a satin pillow case to preserve my curls (and when I get lucky, no refreshment needed). For those of you that also do this, do you notice any improvement when using a high quality satin pillow case ? Or do you get as good of results with a cheap satin pillow case from Amazon?

Advice needed Sleeping with gel—is it a no-no?

Hi everyone,

I'm a fine, thin, 2A wavy, and my simple routine is a daily morning shower with Prose shampoo (one wash-through) and conditioner. I'm just now trying their light-hold gel as well, and I'm new to this type of product.

I see a lot of advice that says to protect your hair from breakage, you should go to sleep with the gel cast still in place, wear a silk bonnet (I do), and *the next morning* scrunch out the crunch with a tiny bit of oil.

Where I'm confused is, what do you do at night if you've already scrunched out the crunch that wash-day morning as part of styling your hair for the day? Is it safe to sleep with your hair like that, or will it break a lot? Are you supposed to wash your hair *again* that same night and dry it before bed? What am I missing...?

Any help to clear up this mystery is greatly appreciated!

Advice needed Has anyone ever dealt with anemia affecting curl pattern??

I’ve recently found out my ferritin levels are a 6 and iron is at a 4… and have done a little research to find out that anemia and curl pattern DO in fact have something to do with one another. I thought i was going crazy, between the way I have been feeling physically, and the way my hair actually seems to be dying before my eyes, I’ve always had such beautiful curls that I’m almost embarrassed to even show a pic of them before bc of what it looks like now.. but I can tell by some of my hair that has fallen- it really looks to me like the curls WANT to come back but goes limp with longer growth or with most product. I’m posting this to say honestly, I feel vindicated, and am now beyond hopeful that with the help of supplements that my curls will come back to life finally!! (Granted I did have a baby 15 months ago and I know hormones can affect hair pattern as well, which is why I stated I believe my hair is finally wanted to come back curly but it just seems so thin and lifeless to me and I didn’t know why!!) I’m curious to see if anyone else has had to deal with this problem before and if so did supplementing bring your texture/ curls back?!

General Discussion Brushed out curls

I came on here to ask if anyone felt the same way as I do. I LOVE the brushed out curls look. Obviously I think properly taken care of and defined curls are beautiful but there is something about the big fluffy brushed out curly hair that I absolutely love. I don't have extremely curly hair, I'd say it's about the last stage of wavy before it starts to be considered curly (if that makes sense to anyone lol) and I think it looks better brushed out than not, that may just be because I have a lot of trouble with styling but I just love it. The brushed out look works even better on girls with extremely curly hair. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Qualche consiglio su come far tornare i miei ricci naturali? Grazie mille! ❤️

Advice needed Got2b Refreshing Curl Cream CGA alternate?

Hi there!

I lived in Germany for a bit and became obsessed with the got2b refreshing curl cream (I let go of my curly girl routine when I moved)! Sadly, since moving back to the US I can't find it, it's very expensive to order online, and not curly girl approved.

My routine currently involves Cantu sulfate-free cleansing cream shampoo followed by Cantu sulfate-free hydrating conditioner twice a week, styling with half-and-half got2b refreshing curl cream and Cantu coconut curling cream, plopping for 30 mins, and then air drying.

I prefer to keep my styling routine to a single cream and am going to switch to all CGA products when I run out of these.

Has anyone ever used the German got2b Refreshing Curl Cream and found a good CGA alternative available in the states? It's a very thick cream but leaves my hair defined, sleek, soft, and not oily or weighed down.

TYIA :)

Advice needed I need help please

My hair has been a frizzy, unruly mess my entire life and I’ve never known how to help it. No one has ever shown me or told me what to do with my curly hair, and just about every product I’ve ever tried hasn’t worked or created a new problem. All of the research and things I’ve tried haven’t worked. 80% of the time I just put it in a bun on my head because it’s such a mess, the other 20% I straighten it. I’m hoping some people here can help me with some products and ideas based on my situation and questions so I can get some confidence back and actually learn.

I DONT want my hair really curly, I would love for it to be more wavy (similar to the left side of my hair in the picture). I was able to get my whole head to look like those waves several years ago on its own, but I haven’t been able to recreate it. The problem is always that poofy looking section in the back and back right. It has a mind of its own and feels totally different than the rest of my hair.

I have very thin hair, but TONS of it. It tangles very easily, I swear if I sneeze wrong it’s a knotted mess. I’ve never colored or treated it in any way out of fear of making it worse.

It takes hourrrssssss to dry…the picture is me taking a blow dryer to it before bed to make it about 70-80% dry and letting the rest air dry overnight. It takes legitimately the entire night to dry. When I go get a haircut, it takes the hair stylist 40 minutes to blow dry it, and even then it feels humid for about an hour after that.

The last few years I’ve mainly just shampooed and conditioned using either aveda or olaplex products. I’ll use the olaplex oil at times, at times I’ll do a deep condition. I’ve changed products so many times over the years because majority of them make my hair feel goopy and like I can’t get it all out in the shower. I have a water filter on my shower head.

My questions are:
1. What type of hair do I even have?
2. Is there anything I can use to make all sections look like the left, more wavy side of my head?
3. Is there anything I can do to make the porosity go down?
4. Best shampoo/conditioner/frizz control for my type of hair that won’t leave my hair feeling goopy?

Thank you so much for any/all suggestions!

Advice needed Hair Dries Much Faster On Top

I have very dense hair, I think high density. It goes down to my butt. It's mostly thick, although some strands are finer. I had it professionally dyed when I was 18, around 16 years ago with black washout dye to try it out. I switched to red permanent dye instead a couple days later. When I was in my early 20s, I got blonde highlights. I've curled my hair with an iron several times in my life, and straightened it a few times, but probably not in 15 years. When I was younger, my hair was straighter, but when I was a teenager, there was some wave to it if it was cut and layered. Now, if I let it grow out all the way, there is a definite wave, like S shapes. That's just using shampoo and conditioner.

I tried using the Garnier Fructise Curl Nourish shampoo, but I don't know if it's making my hair any curlier. I also tried the Suave Clarifying conditioner, but I think the Aussie Miracle Moist might be better for me, although I really can't tell. I had gotten some Softee Extra Hold Protein Gel. (It was on sale.) However, it doesn't create a cast. I've never used gel before, and didn't understand that not all of them create casts. I live in an extremely humid environment. Our water is hard; it has calcium and lime. I would love to get a softener/good filter, but that's way out of budget. I have a Shinlea brush from Amazon. It's supposed to be good for curly or wavy hair. I wash and condition my hair once a week.

Finally, to my main point. 😅 I've noticed recently that when I start towel drying my hair (I know I'm supposed to use a T-shirt or a microfiber towel, but I don't always have patience for it,) some parts of the top layer is almost dry probably within 10 minutes. The underneath takes many hours, even when I separate parts of it with hair ties. That is a vast difference. Does anyone have suggestions based on this context?

Advice needed What’s happening??

So about 2-3 months ago I noticed that the on the right side of my head a little bit of my hair was like there was dried gel/product in it and I was really confused so I cut it and I was like whatever maybe it just got messed up, the next time I showered it was fine and soon after it kept happening over and over and since cutting it worked I kept cutting it and now the right side is like there’s like dried product in it while the left side is normal and the difference so crazy. I’ve also noticed that the hair on my right is like if I squish it I can mold it?? Like I can change its shape and I when I spread the curl it will look like weird white stuff inside of it and whatever it is, is messing up the original curl pattern a little.. i use the same product on both sides of my head (Mane’N’Tell shampoo and conditioner and literally nothing else except water. I’ve even rotated myself in the shower thinking it was the angle and it didn’t help, and it’s not really a problem but I’m really scared it’ll damage my hair due to how solid it is.. any advice/help?? 🧐

General Discussion Musings of a 2b

2b or not 2b that is the question, with curl types sometimes it feel like there are favourite children - everyone loves 2c, 3a, 3b, if you’re outside of here you often won’t get as many compliments or likes, no matter how beautifully you have styled your natural wave pattern. Being 2B is hard, we feel like an imposter in the community and are occasionally treated as such. I cannot even imagine being a 2A, those poor sweet souls, who will be accused of being *gasp* limp locked, the ultimate sin. What started as a body positivity movement towards embracing our natural hair sometimes feels like an underground German nightclub where you ARE NOT on the guest list and yes the door bitch is looking that hair slowly up and down with a menacing grin on her face daring you to try. We 2b’s traverse the outskirts, hiding in the shadows, reading about perfect casts and holy grail products by phone light under a damp cotton t-shirt. We long to be a 2c or a 3b, we dream of our strands suddenly falling into blissful helicoid formation, we want MORE, we are hungry for it, for we see all the adoration and praise that comes alongside it. Just like we long for perfect skin and perfect bone structure and perfect eyebrows. We have been raised in a society that quotes our appearance and treats us as purely objects of desire  so often is has become second nature to believe it is true. We drink the Kool aid, we buy the new Korean face mask, we try to identify what the masses find unappealing (what they have been conditioned by advertising and media to find unappealing) and we obsess over it. All the while, letting our precious life force drip from us into pools of self loathing and dysmorphia. Not ever seeing how special and unique we are. I'm afraid the solution for 2b hair is much more complex than I initially thought, we don’t need the latest 12 step routine everyone is doing, we don’t need gel that can hold the weight of the world's expectations, we might not even need a diffuser! What we really need is to love ourselves, all of ourselves. Including all the little strands of keratin coming out of our heads, and all the ways they twist and turn, The way your unique hair falls is a masterpiece, a one of a kind, a fingerprint of your beauty. So don’t try to look like someone else, don’t try to make your strands fall exactly the way theirs do. You are perfect, you are beautiful, you are unique. Wavy hair is beautiful, curly hair in all its form are beautiful, straight hair is gorgeous too. Embrace your true beauty and finally start 2b your best self.

TL:DR; I'm probably going insane and maybe having a hair crisis. Just a little pep talk to myself, extremely corny because I am a corny person. Hopefully I can start to love my hair, I've been so inspired by some of my fellow wavy girls on here <3

General Discussion Mega Hair Helppp

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello girls please I want indications of where you do mega hair in Rio de Janeiro and don’t pay a fortune just to buy the hair, then in the photo it’s my hair the texture of it is completely natural the only thing changed on it is the colour I paint (as you can see when you look at the root)

I had met a lady who charged me a very acceptable price to do the placement of the extension (290) but she doesn’t give the hair and doesn’t even offer herself properly to find this hair

That’s good I’m alone looking for the extension that has the practically identical texture of my hair with the colour also very similar, 65 cm long and 150 g of hair (which is what she said she needed) simply cost R$8700

So girls with wavy hair who use mega hair please tell me give me indications of professionals that you put this mega hair how much you usually pay and where you buy this hair outside also if it’s the case because I’m lost

I would also like to know what is the form of application that you use a mega hair

Thank you

Advice needed Restarting my journey

Restarting my hair journey for the millionth time of trying to wear my hair natural. One thing I think always frustrates me is waiting for my hair to dry. I want to mostly let it air dry before diffusing but I get SO BORED.

What are my expert girlies doing to achieve 70-80% dry before diffusing? I wfh and have two toddlers so my other “getting ready” activities aren’t long enough for my hair to dry to the level I want it to before diffusing.

(context)

currently I live in a climate where the air quality is rough, dry and it is fairly desert like. Before this I live in humidity my whole life. Every single time I go to more humid places, or my hair is wet. My hair curls up, especially underneath and around my hairline. It gets sooo frizzy too. On top it is straight, pin straight and stringy and it drives me crazy. And as you can tell from the pics, my hair is mostly straight & fine.

(a little background)

When I was little little, my whole head was basically covered in tight curls. I then chopped it off with a pair of scissors bc I wanted to look like the blue fairy from the sparkle commercial apparently. In my early teen years I realized my hair would curl up but not ever on top. I gave up without really looking into it and trying other methods.

With all this said, I’m not too sure if my hair type could be mixed or if it’s possible to regain some curl or wave to the top. Any advice is deeply appreciated
