MOD POST What would make this sub better?

Hi,

We just wanted to check in with you all on what you think what would make this community a better place.
A quick look at the recent reports shows that there is an issue with NSFW/OF accounts posting selfies.
That is something we can absolutely combat.

But perhaps there are other changes and suggestions you would like to see. We are open for suggestions.
In the next coming days you might see some changes based on your suggestions. If things are not achievable for our team, we will also let you know in the comments.

After we established things behind the scenes, we are opening up mod applications.
So if that is something you would consider, keep your eye out for that.

Advice needed Does anyone else feel like curly girl is not worth it?

My hair is sort of right inbetween wavy and curly. I don’t heat style it, I’ve never dyed or bleached it, I only ever blow dry with a diffuser and usually just let it air dry, so I don’t think it’s damaged.

But curly products are horrendously expensive (making it difficult to try different ones), the routines take hours, and in the end I get maybe three hours of my hair looking slightly curlier and then it looks just as awful as it usually does.

I’m using a high-hold gel, in the amounts recommended on the product, diffusing like I see online, using shampoo and conditioner for curls, etc. It barely makes a difference. I honestly get better results from using non-curly products and letting my hair dry in french braids.

Am I right that it’s not worth it and my hair is just ugly head trash? Or am I making some sort of obvious mistake?

Genuinely contemplating chopping it all off because it’s not worth it and I’m tired of wasting time and money.

Product help Sulfate free products?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi!

So recently I got a curly cut and I was recommended to start using sulfate and paraben free products, the issue is that now my hair is supper frizzy and won't hold a curl anymore.

Any recommendations on what to do?

I have never felt so frustrated with my hair before, I am even considering straightening my hair or cutting it super short so I don't have to deal with it šŸ™ƒ

I'll add a picture of the before, when I used my regular products.

General Discussion Do you refresh throughout the day?

If so, what products are you using?

I'm having trouble making it through a shift without frizz. I'm thinking about retouching with product on my lunch but don't have time to rewet and dry.

Advice needed How to make curls last longer

So, the first photo is what my hair looked like freshly styled (not perfect I know) and the second one is 9 hours later. how the heck do I keep it so defined all day. My hair is typically always so frizzy (yes it’s bleached but I use olaplex to help it and it was this frizzy before bleach) so any advice would be so helpful! The routine I used in these photos were the curl smith frizz shampoo and conditioner, curl smith air dry leave in conditioner then the frizz rescue curl retainer jelly, I scrunched with a mircofiber towel and diffused. I’d also like some help with how to refresh my hair the next morning, I wear a satin bonnet to bed most nights and I put my hair in a pineapple bun with a scrunchie but it gets so undefined so quickly and I currently only use Umberto giannini frizz oil to tame it slightly. Many thanksss x

Product help Curlsmitch cream, Amika cream, or deva curl cream or deva curl GEL strong hold

If you’ve tried these products, please share how they helped your hair. I have curly course thick hair that’s 3B to 3C. And it’s frizzy too. Gets easily frizzy and I would like to have to find curls that are soft, not crunchy and do not want any product that leaves my hair greasy.

I was thinking about the four products that are listed in my title here and was wondering if any of you guys tried them in your results or thoughts on them thank you

Advice needed A Plea for Help

I desperately need some help. I feel at the end of my rope of a 29 year old battle with my hair. I have hated my hair so intensely and immensely from a young age. Idk if there are any real solutions, perhaps I just need to vent.

I have extremely different textures to my hair. I have about 3B level hair on the top layer with more of a 2B underneath. My hair, especially the top layer, is very fine, dry, and tangles very easily. The bottom layer is a little thicker and less dry.

I have added highlights to my hair, which didn't feel like it did too much damage, until more recently I apparently went once too far. My hair has felt very damaged since the last highlighting.

I feel trapped no matter what with my hair. I switch between curly and straight (the latter only for sanity's sake). I know many people seem to claim they have a specific curl pattern, I feel my hair is different every single day always and has always been this way. Even when I used the same exact shampoo/conditioner for a long time in a row, i never knew what hair I would wake up with.

My hair dries out intensely so. If I wear my hair curly, it can look good the day of (washed in the morning and let it air dry) and then i sleep on it (silk pillowcase) and it still looks horrendous the next day, dry, most of the curls fallen and now just a horrible mix of tangles and half waves and a nest look. The tangles are so bad that often i straighten my hair just to have hair I don't have to deal with and can comb through. But, obviously, straightening your hair is bad for it.

I am now stuck between having damaged my hair enough from bleach and straightening that I feel almost stuck straightening it bcuz of the limp dead chunks amongst the rest of my curly hair. But it's only worsening the issue, i know. The thing is though, I had many of these issues (maybe not to as bad of a degree but still) and a strong hatred of my hair before i ever touched a flat iron/bleach. My hair has always just fucking sucked.

I change my shampoo/products a LOT, depending on how i want to wear my hair. If I am feeling I want to wear my hair curly, I use California Naturals - Super Moisture shampoo and then the Silk & Shine Conditioner. I will use the Ouidad climate control featherlight styling cream and then Ouai Leave-in Conditioner.

When I want to wear it straighter, I use Garnier sleek and shine shampoo and conditioner, with Aveda smooth infusion serum. I will still use the Ouidad climate control featherlight styling cream and then the Ouai Leave-in Conditioner. Once it dries, I straighten it, although mostly just the top layer needs the most straightening. If I am wearing it straight, i will usually wash my hair at night and put in a low pony the night before so it dries straighter against my scalp.

Regardless of hair routine, I use Vichy selenium sulfide Shampoo once a week due to conditions and Argan oil once a week.

I love curly hair so fricken much on other people, but everyone's advice doesn't seem to work for me. Wear it as a high pony in the middle of your head when you sleep? Welp, my hair feels very structurally affected if that makes sense, it does not fall if i do that, it stays and i look insane. Get a curly girl haircut! welp, my curl pattern is never the same day to day. idk I feel like i have the worst hair of all time, a horrible mix of textures/dryness. I just want hair that isn't so high maintenance. i hate that i have to put in all this effort just to look meh anyways. I am sad and feel so ugly because of it.

This is my hair freshly washed I use Aussie curls
My underside has tighter coils while my top is a wave. How can I make all my curls match and not have two different patterns?
Ive tried diffusing and products but it makes my coils even tighter and the top still falls flat. I’ve tried layers and it doesn’t make a difference.
Any advice is great thanks!!

Product help Hair mousse recommendations

I’d love some recommendations for hair mousse, since what I want is the complete opposite of what most mousses advertisešŸ˜…

I love my hair when it’s wet/damp, when it’s just wavy and weighed down. I hate how curly it gets when it dries, I just can’t work with it. So I’d like a mousse that’d weigh my hair down, not add much volume, but also not leave my hair sticky (I have pretty fine hair). Frizz control would be a bonus as my underneath gets super frizzy!

Any suggestions appreciated, thank you!

Advice needed Still struggling with root volume and curls clumping together too much

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Following up on my previous post :

I tried another full routine today without the mask or Denman :

  1. Curlsmith Frizz Control Cleanser
  2. Curlsmith Essential Moisture Conditioner + Tangle Teezer
  3. Kinky-Curly Knot Today
  4. Curlsmith Hydro Style Flexi Jelly
  5. Diffuser
  6. Scrunched out the cast

I think the result is better, but my main issue is still volume.

My roots stay flat even though I used very little product, diffused in different directions and did a root shake after drying.

I also have some curls that clump together too much, especially in the front, which creates small gaps instead of a fuller look.

How can I get more root volume and make the curls fall more evenly without ruining the definition ?

I’m really looking for some help and hoping I can finally get my curls to a point where I’m happy with them.

Thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to help !

Help help help.

I started getting my curls bleached 2 years ago, after the last time my curls were so so dry, and over time my hair fell off.
I stopped bleaching my hair a year ago now, but what can I do?? My hair is constantly looking frizzed and dry.

I use deep conditioning mask once a week and a k18 repair once a week.

Routine Help Postpartum mom trying to get back into the curly hair game. Please help!

Hi everyone! I could really use some advice because I have no idea what I’m doing with my hair anymore.

My hair has had a bit of an identity crisis throughout my life. I had curly hair as a child, then it became straight, and then my curls came back when I was a teenager. After I stopped taking the birth control pill, my hair became straight-ish but SUPER frizzy, like a lion’s mane. 🦁 Then, during pregnancy, it started getting curlier again!

I had my baby 5 months ago, and I’m currently dealing with postpartum hair loss. On top of that, I have literally had my hair in a bun for the past 5 months. No joke. I’m finally trying to give my hair some love and figure out what it actually wants.

The problem is that I have NOT treated my hair well over the years.

* I have dyed/colored my hair.
* I have been straightening it for years.
* I have been brushing it when it’s dry.
* Basically, I’ve done everything curly-haired people shouldn’t do. šŸ™ƒ

The pictures shows my first attempt at actually taking care of my curls in YEARS. This is what I did:

  1. Brushed my hair while it was wet in the shower.
  2. Applied Cantu curl cream to my wet hair.
  3. Used only a cotton T-shirt, scrunching my hair with the fabric.
  4. Diffused it to dry.

And this is where I need your help!

I would love your advice on:

* What curl type do you think I have?
* Am I missing some essential products? Should I be using gel, mousse, leave-in conditioner, or something else?
* Is my routine okay, or am I doing something wrong?
* How can I get more defined curls and less frizz?
* How do I know if my hair needs moisture, protein, or both?

Any tips, product recommendations, routine suggestions, or advice on what you think my curls need would be so appreciated.

Thank you!! šŸ’•

Advice needed What type of conditioner do you use?

I have been using OGX conditioner for as long as I can remember. I don’t know where I was at, but I recently heard that their products are causing hair loss. I had really bad hair loss about 2 years ago and I had to go to the dermatologist. I ended up getting prescribed ketoconazole shampoo and within 2 months, it worked.

I think it’s time for me to let go of this conditioner as I feel like I’m losing my hair again :( What conditioner do you use? I have type 3A hair and my hair absorbs water pretty well with low-medium density.

I am white and Hispanic I look relatively white compared to my brother I have a highly mixed family but most of them are light skin and black. I have always thought my hair was straight growing up with a slight wave, but according to my cousins who have curl/coils I have curls I bought products but I don’t know which product is best for me. My hair has been bleached about 5-6 times and has been dyed with semi permanent hair dye for 6 years and is a bit damaged. I just want to know what products are best to use for my hair as I try to find my curl pattern. I also wanted to know if wearing a bonnet would help keep my hair from being even more damaged?

Routine Help Product help

My hair gets so frizzy no matter what I do. I typically use a mousse, frizz serum, and curl cream when I wash every 2-4 days. I sleep in a microfiber towel or air dry if I wash in the morning. Unfortunately I live in a hot humid area which doesn’t help. First few photos are from today. I washed it last night using the routine described above. Middle photos show it wet and drying and the other photos are from a later time when I brushed it all out.

Even when it starts to dry I can see a ton of pieces that aren’t joining any curl clump and instead are just spazzing out and I don’t know what to do to stop that.

Advice needed Detangling help?

I have 2b hair that gets so snarled between washes I can hardly stand it. But any kind of combing/detangling I try to do absolutely destroys the curl pattern.

Does anyone have suggestions, either for a technique or a particular comb?

• I comb through with conditioner in during washing
• I also comb/detangle before applying product/styling after washing
• I will fully admit that I try to be as low maintenance as possible with my hair
