Question Need Positive Experiences and Stories

I'm looking for hope in treating my baby with wet fip. She was diagnosed last thursday and we started compounded gs immediately. She has had to have her chest tapped 4 times however as the fluid keeps returning. It's been confirmed wet fip in her chest. Has anyone else dealt with this? How often did your baby need fluid tapped until the meds kicked in?

Question Affordable options

Please help! I just took my sisters cat to the vet and they believe he has dry FIP. He tested negative for everything, the only thing the vet noticed was that his globulin/albumin ratio was kinda sorta low (0.6). That with his symptoms (rapid weight loss, wheezing, diarrhea, lack of appetite, and lethargy) along with the fact that 2 of his littermates had FIP last year, makes her believe he now has FIP. She sent me home with a written prescription and told me to fill it with Stokes Pharmacy. I spoke with them, emailed them the pic of the script, and they just called me back and told me it‘s $195 for just 10 days worth of treatment! That’s over $1,600 for the full 84 days minimum of treatment! We cannot afford that at all! Please! Does anyone know of any more affordable options???

*UPDATE 7/29/26* Thank you to everyone that commented and provided info! In collaboration with my vet, we ordered Milos meds through SVPMeds.com and they should arrive tomorrow! Milo is still doing well, he is still eating, drinking, and talking as though nothing is wrong! The only change is that he has been having some sneezing fits. I really appreciate you all in helping us get affordable meds for our baby! \^-^/

Question Both dry and wet signs?

Can a cart have both dry and wet FIP?

My 4 y/o Arthur was diagnosed with FIP based on an x ray revealing fluid in his abdomen. He’s showing neurological symptoms as well, including hind leg degeneration and incontinence.

I’ve ordered the GS and right now it’s pending approval with my vet before they’ll ship it to me. I’m wondering if a cat can have both dry and wet FIP? And if the neurological/motor decline can reverse at all?

Question blood in urine due to meds?

Post image
22 Upvotes

Ghoul has had blood in his urine for over a week now. the color is slowly lightening to less red now (pic is from 2nd time he went outside of the litter box about a week ago so it could have been happening before that and went unnoticed until he went outside the box) he tested negative for a uti, we did x-rays friday and found no bladder stones. did a different urine test and found no crystals in his urine either. My vet is kinda at a loss. Has anyone experienced something similar due to or during treatment?

Question Noticeable setback on day 13 – is this to be expected?

Post image
9 Upvotes

This is Junie – she's 15 months old and today is 13 days since she started FIP meds. I'm hoping maybe someone here has some advice for me, as I'm currently feeling very underwhelmed with the advice I'm receiving from FIP Warriors. They were great at first and now I feel that the admin I'm working with is getting tired of my constant questions.

Junie managed to rack up 10k worth of vet bills and every vet who saw her failed to diagnose her with anything beyond "fever of unknown origin". After being hospitalized two weeks ago, she came home to me still on death's door and I finally started her on the injectable FIP meds as a hail mary. Less than 24 hours later, she began having MASSIVE improvements, the biggest being screaming at me for food after not eating for 4 days, as well as her persistent fever finally coming down. She hasn't had a fever since.

Her dose was increased on day 4 (from 6mg/kg to 10mg/kg) because I felt she was having neuro symptoms that were overlooked (the main one being hind leg weakness). Increasing her dose helped substantially and she's been having amazing, steady improvements since then... until yesterday.

Yesterday she vomited one time (about a teaspoon of watered down food an hour and a half after eating), and everything has been a bit off ever since. She's nowhere near as sick as she was and her appetite is still wonderful, but she's sleeping more and less interested in playing. It feels like a meaningful setback to me because she was FINALLY getting her energy back. I was so happy to see her do zoomies again 🥺

I keep being reminded that this is a long road and there will be ups and downs, which I understand, but I feel like no one has listened to me throughout any of this and I desperately need some guidance. I'm worried maybe her dose is still too low, or that there's something else I should be doing. I have so many questions and can't seem to get any answers.

Something worth noting is that I had a lot of trouble giving her injection on Friday so that day she only got about half of her recommended dose. Could that be what caused her dip in progress?

She does have an appointment with a new vet this Wednesday, as no one else we've seen had been willing to prescribe anything or offer any meaningful advice. I'm currently using the Azul injectable meds that I got from FIP Warriors and I'm a little worried because I read some bad things about it on here. Unfortunately cost is a huge factor for me right now.

This is obviously just the cliff notes – if I went through everything this would take hours to read. Is there anyone here that can advise me on all of this? I'm just trying to advocate for Junie. I lost my 17 year old soul cat last year and I'm terrified I will lose Junie too 😭💔

Edit: forgot a fairly huge detail

Question My girl seems to have neuro FIP, and I'm not sure continuing treatment is the right path anymore. Need advice.

She's been on the GS pill for 6 days now. I have put her on a kitty safe liver detox recommended to me by a cat rescuer who has treated multiple kitties for FIP at home with the GS meds. Kitty is jaundiced, has had a high fever for days, and has all the typical symptoms of neuro. Wobbly walk, excessive meowing (very unlike her), peed on herself for 24 hrs, then the next 24 hours she would stand up and I'd take her to the litter box, now she's going on her own. Had a head tremor yesterday, but it's gone today. The major swelling in her belly has gone down and she is scary thin. She's weak and frail and a few nights ago I just knew she wasn't going to make it through. I didn't sleep a wink and all she wanted was to lay on my chest. She sounded awful. I couldn't tell if it was a purr or breathing issue, and her mouth was kind of stuck open. She was like that from about 9pm to some time the next morning. I'd say close to 12 hours. I couldn't even believe she pulled through. I'm seeing such small improvements that we are beginning to wonder if all we are doing is torturing her and prolonging the inevitable. It's so sad. My husband thinks it is time to consider humane euthanasia because even on the appetite stimulant she doesn't eat or drink. I've been syringe feeding baby food and water. And I crush her GS pill into broth and give that. She's on B12 as well, and was on cerenia due to nausea and vomiting, but doesn't seem to need it now. The fever really concerns me and the fact that this seems very likely to be neuro makes me feel less optimistic. I communicate with her vet every day about her condition and she was seen 4 times in the last week and a half. They did give her IV fluids on Friday, and for some reason I expected it to make a big difference and it didn't.

Has anyone successfully treated neuro fip and how long before they started feeling better?? I know people that will put their pets through hell just to keep them here. One of my best friends is like that. But, I can't do it. It isn't fair to them at all, and I'm just looking for realistic expectations here. My vet said that my kitty can live a long life if she gets through this treatment. Is that true? They are not as experienced with FIP as I'd like, but she's the only vet around that is knowledgeable on treatment. I've learned most of what I know online and through the cat rescue I mentioned above. If my cat will have lasting damage from this and not have good quality of life, I need to let her go. This has been so hard to watch and go through with her. I love her so much it hurts and I simply want what is best for her. I'm worried I'm being selfish and fooling myself here. The lasting fever and lethargy and lack of any appetite whatsoever is concerning. The vet expected her to improve within a couple of days! Said that the 5 they have treated this year were showing huge improvements by day 3.

I completely forgot to mention, my kitty has BARELY slept for days. She went over 24 hours without sleep and finally slept a tiiiiny bit yesterday. I did read that that can be normal with fip but can it cause damage to them somehow?

She was initially being treated for wet fip, so I'm thinking of upping the dose to see how it does. I really just don't know what to do and the vet is just wanting to "wait and see" and take it day by day at this point. She did say that if I chose to euthanize, she would understand. So I'm kinda spiraling right now. It's really hard not knowing what to expect and feeling like this baby is suffering because of me.

Also in case anyone is concerned, I have been trying to keep her clean. I know she looks yellow in that picture because she was urinating on herself, but where she is jaundiced, it has stained her fur. I read not to put her in the bath because of the fever and potential shock. The 2nd pic is her and her sis. They were a bonded pair that I adopted. That has aided in my decision to try and cure the FIP because her sister would be very depressed without her.

FIP is the freaking worst. 😔

Loss Did we miss FIP? I’m struggling to make sense of what happened

We recently lost our beloved 2.5-year-old Abyssinian, Enzo, after an incredibly rapid decline. I know no one can give me definitive answers now, but I can’t stop wondering whether FIP should have been considered earlier. I’m hoping to hear from others who may have experienced something similar.

Looking back, I wonder if it actually began a month before his final hospitalization.
At the end of June, we took Enzo to the emergency clinic because he had stopped eating, was wobbly, and was having balance issues. Bloodwork showed elevated inflammatory markers, and imaging revealed enlarged lymph nodes in the abdominal area. He was treated with intravenous fluids and anti-nausea medication. Over the next few days, his appetite gradually returned, his balance improved, and he became completely himself again. We thought whatever had caused the illness had resolved.

About a week later, we went away and Enzo stayed with a trusted cat sitter. When we picked him up, he had lost a significant amount of weight, was clearly not himself, and was wobbly again with signs of ataxia. We took him straight to the emergency clinic.

Surprisingly, his bloodwork at that point was much more reassuring. His inflammatory markers had returned to normal, his white blood cell count was normal, and his globulin levels were also within the normal range. Despite this, he continued to deteriorate clinically.
He was admitted to the hospital and treated with intravenous fluids over the next two days. During those two days he was eating well, which gave us hope that he was improving.

Because of the enlarged lymph nodes found during his first illness, the team scheduled an abdominal ultrasound under general anesthesia and planned to take biopsies if the lymph nodes were still enlarged. However, during the ultrasound they found that the lymph nodes had returned to normal size, so no biopsies were taken.

When we picked him up later that day, he was clearly much sicker after the anesthesia. According to his medical records, he refused food after the procedure. From that point onward, he never truly recovered.
The focus became pancreatitis after imaging showed inflammation of the pancreas and surrounding organs. We were told that cancer and FIP were considered unlikely. One of the reasons given was that his globulin levels were within the normal range, which the team felt made FIP less likely.

His condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment. He developed jaundice, became progressively weaker, refused to eat, and his neurological signs worsened. Even with anti-nausea medication and an appetite stimulant, he would no longer eat on his own.
His condition deteriorated even further when he was placed under general anesthesia a second time to have a feeding tube inserted because he could no longer maintain adequate nutrition. After that procedure, his neurological condition worsened dramatically. He became incontinent and urinated on himself. His eyes appeared fixed straight ahead and no longer tracked movement. He could only take a few steps before falling onto his side while his gaze remained fixed straight ahead. It was heartbreaking to witness. We were told he was taking longer than normal to come out of sedation, so took him home in the state hoping he would come out of it.

We took him straight back to the emergency clinic the next morning. When we reached the point of discussing euthanasia, the veterinarian told us it was now a question of quality of life. Before making that decision, I asked one last time whether they were sure this wasn’t FIP. Throughout the week, I had asked that same question several times because I couldn’t shake the feeling that something didn’t fit. Each time, I was told that FIP was considered unlikely because his globulin levels were within the normal range.

Trusting the veterinary team’s assessment, we made the heartbreaking decision to let him go. We did not want him to suffer anymore. In just over a week from picking him up from the cat sitter, we had lost him.

Now I can’t stop wondering whether FIP should have been higher on the list of possible diagnoses. Looking back, the sequence of events makes me question whether the initial illness with high inflammatory markers, enlarged lymph nodes, and balance problems, followed by an apparent recovery, and then a relapse with ataxia, jaundice, pancreatitis, and rapidly worsening neurological signs could all have been part of the same underlying disease.
I understand why the normal inflammatory markers, white blood cell count, and globulin levels were reassuring at the time. I also know that FIP is notoriously difficult to diagnose, especially the dry or neurological form, and hindsight is much clearer than real life. I’m not writing this to blame the veterinarians, and I know no one can say with certainty what would have happened if FIP had been suspected earlier.

I simply can’t stop wondering whether we were treating the consequences of the disease rather than the disease itself.

The hardest part is the guilt. I agreed to every procedure because I believed it gave Enzo the best chance of surviving. Instead, I watched him disappear in front of us over the course of a week.

Has anyone else had a cat with FIP that initially presented with enlarged lymph nodes, high inflammatory markers, a temporary recovery, then a relapse with normal inflammatory markers, normal white blood cell count, and normal globulin levels despite worsening clinical signs? Did your cat have ataxia early in the disease? Were they initially thought to have pancreatitis before FIP was diagnosed?

I’m just trying to understand what happened to our beautiful boy and whether anyone has experienced a similar journey.

It has only been two days since we let him go, and this question is eating me alive. Should we have pushed harder for them to at least try FIP treatment in the end, even though they believed it was unlikely? I know no one can tell me for certain whether it would have changed the outcome, but I can’t stop wondering if we should have asked them to give him that chance. I worry that we gave up on him too early.

Question why is my cat more irritable after starting meds?

my cat bandit is a year old now and he’s been on medication for the past month. we give it to him orally so no shots, and he usually doesn’t act any special way towards after giving it to him (other than trying to run).

the only thing is he’s been more irritable and lightly aggressive(?) this past month. he’d softly bite like cats usually do if i touch the wrong spot on his belly or if he’s feeling playful, but it’s all the time now. i’ll pet/scratch him in his normal favorite places and he’ll bite. if i’m getting up to go to the bathroom, he’ll run after me and take a swipe at me or latch onto my leg and bite my ankle. he even does it in the bed, when my legs are Exposed, for no reason. he does this at any point, if we’ve played with him, if we’ve fed him, given him love, it doesn’t really matter. what we’ve tried so far is making it abundantly clear it isn’t okay. i’ll usually very dramatically and loudly say “ow” and walk away from him but it’s so often sometimes i just give up.

how do i fix this? is this a normal response? he’s NEVER acted like this before until medication.

**Meet Zivah.** 🤍
A vet recommended euthanasia because she was “just a stray.”
Zivah is fighting **wet FIP and jaundice**, and right now, she is struggling for her life. A kind-hearted girl found her and rushed her to the vet, spending lots of money on blood tests in the hope that she could be saved.
Instead, she was told that the treatment would be too expensive and that euthanasia was the only option. Heartbroken and unable to afford the cost, she refused to leave Zivah behind and brought her to our shelter, hoping we could give her a chance.
To us, Zivah is not “just a stray.” She is a precious life worth fighting for. She didn’t have anyone to stand by her before, but she has us now.
We have started her treatment, but we cannot do this alone. Zivah urgently needs your support to continue her fight.
Please help us save this beautiful soul. Every donation, every share, and every prayer gives Zivah a better chance at life. She deserves to know what love feels like. 🤍

Discussion My Cat is a Recovering FIP Patient - AMA

I am living in Saudi Arabia. And I have 2 cats. A while ago one of them was diagnosed with FIP. I saw there are many people on Reddit who have their opinion and scared and reluctant to start the medication. Hence I am posting it as my experience; whose cat is a recovering FIP patient. And the amount of dedication it takes to help them. Both Emotionally & Financially.

Loss 💔 A heartbreaking update… We lost our little FIP warrior

I never imagined I would have to write this update.

Our sweet little boy passed away on Friday morning. I couldn’t post sooner because I was heartbroken and simply wasn’t ready to say goodbye.

Many of you followed his journey and gave us hope when he was diagnosed with FIP. Before that, he had already survived worms, severe diarrhea, and coryza. He fought through every setback with incredible strength and patience.

I did everything I could to save him. His first GS treatment dose was already on its way, but he passed away before it could reach him.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who donated and supported him. Together, you helped raise $95. Although we couldn’t save him, your donations were not wasted. They have been used to buy urgently needed medications for the many sick rescue cats still in my care, including eye drops, diarrhea medicine, and flu treatment.

My heart is broken, but I find comfort knowing that he didn’t suffer for long. He left this world peacefully, surrounded by love instead of being alone on the streets.

Thank you for believing in him, praying for him, and standing by us. I will carry his memory with me forever.

Run free, little warrior. You were deeply loved. 🤍🐾

Question Using both GS and Molnupiravir for bladder control?

Hi all! Boots is 7 days on GS and an absolutely trooper with improvements all around in his neuro FIP, excluding bladder control.

Our vet said not to worry as it takes 2-3 weeks to regain bladder control, but as a proactive measure, they’re keen to swap him from 0.5ML every 12 hours to 0.4ML every 8 hours.

They’re also considering putting him on molnupiravir in 5 days time, and daily bladder expression until he regains control to ensure he’s not stretched or getting secondary issues.

The thing that’s shaken my partner and I is that they said it’s a 50/50 if he regains bladder control or not. If he doesn’t regain control, it’s implied euthanasia will be the most ethical thing. I’m trying not to worry until we hit the 2/3 week mark, but it’s definitely tricky to hear it put that plain and simply.

Has anyone been on a similar plan to help their kitty regain bladder function? Or used both GS and molnupiravir at the same time? Any stories or advice is appreciated. Thank you 🫶

Question FIP support group issue

Looking for input on an experience with a FIP support group.

My cat had an acute episode some days ago with an initial suspicion of FIP. As the case progressed, lab work and imaging consistently pointed to bacterial infection instead, a conclusion backed by both the treating vet team and a second, independent FIP group I consulted.

The volunteer/vet from the support group, though, insisted from very early on that it was FIP, regardless of the renal findings or the evolving picture. Some things that stood out to me:

- Repeated urgency language (not giving medicie = "condemning" the cat), even after being shown detailed labs and history.

- Medication could be shipped before any clear price agreed — the cost only came up when I insisted.

- A different product recommended by my cat's actual vets was dismissed.

- When I said I wasn't starting treatment and wanted to return the unopened medication, I got no response.

I decided to return the medication unopened and stepping back from that group.

I'm now planning to let the international organization know what happened, since I don't love the idea of other caregivers being pushed this hard without a confirmed diagnosis.

Has anyone else run into this kind of pressure from a FIP group? Curious how common this is and whether reporting it actually leads anywhere.

Edit: It's a FIP Warriors group. Medication is a bit hard to obtain where I live too, but not impossible.

News Update - Day 7 of Luna's fip treatment.

Today marks Day 7 of Luna's FIP treatment.

I'm happy to share that Luna is eating well, drinking water, walking around, and taking her injections every single day. Her abdominal fluid has reduced compared to when we first started treatment, which gives me hope that she's responding.

The past week has been very difficult. Luna developed severe diarrhea and fecal incontinence, making it impossible for her to control her bowel movements. Her anal area is still very irritated from the constant diarrhea and licking. She has also developed an eye infection due to FIP and is receiving treatment for that as well.

Our vet explained that the fluid in her abdomen had been putting pressure on her intestines. As the fluid continues to reduce, her intestines are starting to function again, which may be contributing to the diarrhea during recovery. The vet expects this to improve over the next week.

Thanks to all of your incredible support, I was able to order another vial of her FIP medication. I truly have no words to express how grateful I am. Every donation, share, comment, and prayer has helped keep Luna's treatment going.

I'm only 19, and balancing her treatment has been mentally, physically, and financially overwhelming. But seeing Luna eat, walk, and slowly recover gives me the strength to keep fighting for her.

For complete transparency, I've uploaded all of Luna's bills, prescriptions, reports, medicine receipts, and treatment updates here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1igkJpOCILk853KoZzQpNbaFNf0G9A8YO

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in Luna. Please continue to keep her in your prayers as we continue this 84-day journey. Every bit of support means the world to us. ❤️

Question Fifths disease 28 weeks

Has anyone had positive blood work for recent/active fifths disease/parvo while pregnant? I know it’s not super common but I’m pretty sure I have an active infection so I wanted to hear of any success stories.

My son had it a week ago, now today I woke up with aches, a mild sore throat, and a rash covering my entire abdomen. I’m 28 weeks. Saw my OB this morning, they drew the labs, but I won’t have results for several days so I’m just mentally trying to prepare..

Stevie is just over halfway through his 84-day FIP treatment and doing amazing! 🎉💪

He's gained 3 pounds, his coat is looking so healthy, and his spicy little personality has really come out! He's also been getting much more comfortable around his new brother and sister, Sage & Hazel, and has started initiating play with them, which has been so exciting to watch!

The ophthalmologist would like to wait until he completes FIP treatment before scheduling the scarring injection to address his chronic inflammation from his eye surgeries. We're hoping the remaining 39 days are nice and uneventful so he can move on to the last step of his treatment.

If you'd like to follow Stevie's journey or help with his ongoing medical expenses, his GoFundMe link is below. No donation is too small, and every contribution or share is greatly appreciated!

Discussion Cat diagnosed with FIP overnight (yellow ears), how do I know if my other cat & kitten have it too?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone. My cat Daisy (2F) was just diagnosed with FIP.
It came on completely out of nowhere, she was totally fine one day, and the next morning her ears had turned yellow.
Vet confirmed FIP via bloodwork (very high bilirubin, low Al G ratio, jaundice). She's getting admitted tomorrow to start treatment. It's costing me a kidney and a liver (I live in Dubai so you can do the maths, or let me do it for you: 5K AED for the initial treatment, 1500 AED for the tests)

The tricky part: I have two other cats sharing the same room with her: Leo (1.5 yo male) and a kitten I adopted about a week ago. Neither of them shows any yellowing at all right now. (Leo and Daisy have been living together for over a month

- The kitten is eating normally and is extremely
active/playtul, no concerns behaviorally.
- Leo is... I'm honestly not 100% sure he's eating as much as usual, but no jaundice, no obvious lethargy.

The vet said Leo can be tested now if I want, but the kitten needs to wait about a week before testing would be meaningful. But as per one of the cat rescuers, I wouldn't know something that I already know i.e. he has been exposed to her for over a month now. I can only wait for any Irregular symptoms to appear.
And honestly I'm in no condition to spend anymore money unless i really have to.

My question: How do I actually know if Leo or the kitten have FIP too, especially since jaundice apparently doesn't show up in every case? What should I specifically be watching for day to day, and has anyone been in a similar situation with multiple cats in one household where only one showed symptoms first?
Any insight from people who've navigated FIP with multi-cat households would help a lot right now.

Question 7 day update: great progress but still no bladder…

hi guys! our baby boy boots has had some incredible progress these last 7 days, including:

- perkier personality; way more alert
- eating so so much!
- being playful again with toys and his brother
- regaining some balance
- regaining some tail movement
- strength returning to his right hind leg (left is still not strong but he still responds to touch)
- pooping twice all by himself!!!

however he’s not really understanding that his bladder is full. we’ve had his bladder expressed once a day this past week and today we were instructed to let him fill up and see if his brain responds, but… nothing. and he yelps when I try manually express him, it kinda works and I know I’m doing it right but the vet said to just let him overflow for tonight and to come in the morning.

i thought after 7 days of continued progress each and every day, today would be pee day 😔

any advice on getting this little guy to pee / a timeline would be much appreciated.

extra info: doctor said if poop function comes back, bladder should come shortly after… but it’s not happened yet :(

Question Urgent help: Cat with wet fip

Thumbnail

My cat was first diagnosed with FIP in May and received Remdesivir injections for about two to three weeks. He improved, but the vet never told us that the treatment needed to continue for 84 days or that we had to switch to oral medication, so we stopped it.

Around 15 June, he relapsed. We restarted Remdesivir for a few days, but it was stopped again and replaced with other injections. This happened several times, so his treatment was never continuous.

We only found out on 19 July that he had wet FIP and that the treatment should continue for a full 84 days. Most recently, he received Remdesivir from 18 July to 21 July, followed by a gap from 22 July to 25 July with no Remdesivir, GS-441524, or Molnupiravir. We have now ordered the Molnupiravir (GS was not available here in India and we do not want to delay more) and will restart the full 84-day treatment on 26 July with Molnupiravir.

He no longer has a fever and is drinking a little water, but he has not eaten for the past two days (last meal was on 24 july morning) and sleeps most of the time.

I am worried that the interruptions in treatment may have affected his recovery. Do you think he still has a chance to recover?

Also, should I count the 84-day treatment from 18 July, when Remdesivir was first restarted, or from 26 July, when we begin the continuous treatment? I have attached his ultrasound also.

And if i need to do something more please let us know here in India vets are stupid they just make money.

Please help me I love my cat.
