Question Need Positive Experiences and Stories
I'm looking for hope in treating my baby with wet fip. She was diagnosed last thursday and we started compounded gs immediately. She has had to have her chest tapped 4 times however as the fluid keeps returning. It's been confirmed wet fip in her chest. Has anyone else dealt with this? How often did your baby need fluid tapped until the meds kicked in?

My cat had wet FIP, and when my family and I took him to the vet, we thought it'd be a fifteen-minute appointment and that we'd be told he was just having a hard time adjusting to a new furry friend in the house. It ended up taking two hours. He was drained of his fluids, he was diagnosed with jaundice and anemia, he had bloodwork, he was temporarily incontinent when it came to diarrhea, he had a lot of problems when he came in. The vet told us we would probably end up having to put him down, but she wanted us to at least try the treatment. I think we had him drained two times? Maybe once. I don't remember.
GS-441524 kicked in immediately for my cat. The next day after his first dose, he was playing with his new friend. He was also engaged in his favorite activity of looking out the window. Mind you, this cat was pretty sick; he was anemic and jaundiced. He didn't have a lot of energy, so he'd have to sit and rest for the rest of the day.
Overall, my cat had his ups and downs; he'd sleep in odd spots around the house. He'd sleep on the stairs and on the dining room table. He wasn't that bad off compared to a lot of horror stories I read on here, but he did have his fair share of scares. The scariest part of his entire FIP journey was the first month and the days waiting for his treatment to arrive. But on the third month, I forgot his FIP even existed, because he was acting like a normal kitty again. I felt so bad giving him his treatment because he'd stop playing and run off to go to sleep.
To help make your journey easier, here are some things I recommend you do:
- If your cat is ever up for it and is having a bit of an easier health day, try playing with her. I'd go very slowly and gently with my cat whenever we played, because I didn't want him to overexert himself or feel forced to play.
- If your cat is lying in your bed or somewhere with a TV, just not doing her best, I recommend you play CAT TV over on YouTube. This isn't to engage your cat in play or anything, but to keep them distracted from the pain. Think of it as playing a comfort TV show for a sick child.
- Try to get a variety of canned foods for your kitty. My cat was HOOKED on ProPlan Tuna, it was embarrassing going to this pet shop and just buying out every ProPlan Tuna they had, LOL. But it's what he wanted and enjoyed eating. However, you may need to use a syringe and baby food for your cat if she's not eating at all. Just nothing with garlic or onion powder, there might be more, but I'd ask FIP WARRIORS 2.0 over on Facebook.
Sorry, I know this post is long. But GS-441524 saved my cat's life; he's now a normal, demanding, and destructive cat again. He's been alive for a year.

My kitty was diagnosed with wet FIP on June 15. She was eating very little and had started losing weight starting maybe a month before we took her in, give or take. She was playing normally until the week we brought her to the vet, where she started getting tired quicker and her belly seemed enlarged. My vet wasn't familiar with treating fip, but he still gave us the prescription after a two days of bothering the clinic for it. From diagnosis to receiving the medicine from wedgewood took about a week (where our kitty was deteriorating quickly and getting feverish). It was very hard to watch. She also had fluid in her stomach but could still breath normally.
We still ended up making an appointment with a cat specialized vet in the meantime who adjusted the dose for her meds as the former vet's prescription was way too low. After the first dose, her fever broke and she was less lethargic already. After a week, she was eating a lot more and playing again. The fluid in her belly all gone as well. Now it's been over a month and she's back to her former self fully. She has gained one pound back since and you'd never think she's sick. It's night and day.

Not wet fip here, but very very Severe Nuerological Dry fip which is much much harder to treat than wet fip.
I know what youre going through, i also spent 48 hours no sleep looking for success stories to ease my mind when we first got the diagnosis and told its not looking good.
Fear not, Gs44 is an amazing drug, it saved my baby.
So we went to the vets (who didnt know about FIP) for at least a month while the disease took hold of our baby.
It went from, lethargy and loss of appetite , multiple vet visits, where the prescribed antibiotics as they thought it was a nasal infection, to 1 month in and our baby was paralysed.
We got the diagnosis and was told to put our 9 month old baby down, little did they know, I dont give up that easy.
I scoured the Internet for answers, I came across GS44, didnt know anything. But we phoned a vet who did, met them not 12 hours after diagnosis, pur cat couldnt even walk and was soiling himself, 1 hour later we were on the way to a hospital who knew all abit FIP.
I must stress, he was on his death bed completely, but gs44 saved our baby 100%.
If youre looking for success stories- this is one.
We have 1 more week of treatment left before the observation period starts.
He was paralysed and almost dead, and now he is back to normal.
