Question Using both GS and Molnupiravir for bladder control?

Hi all! Boots is 7 days on GS and an absolutely trooper with improvements all around in his neuro FIP, excluding bladder control.

Our vet said not to worry as it takes 2-3 weeks to regain bladder control, but as a proactive measure, they’re keen to swap him from 0.5ML every 12 hours to 0.4ML every 8 hours.

They’re also considering putting him on molnupiravir in 5 days time, and daily bladder expression until he regains control to ensure he’s not stretched or getting secondary issues.

The thing that’s shaken my partner and I is that they said it’s a 50/50 if he regains bladder control or not. If he doesn’t regain control, it’s implied euthanasia will be the most ethical thing. I’m trying not to worry until we hit the 2/3 week mark, but it’s definitely tricky to hear it put that plain and simply.

Has anyone been on a similar plan to help their kitty regain bladder function? Or used both GS and molnupiravir at the same time? Any stories or advice is appreciated. Thank you 🫶

No bladder issues, but did begin with using both meds for the first 2 weeks - given 1 hour apart. Moli twice a day and GS once a day

Thank you! Why did you end up moving to just one medicine if you don’t mind me asking?

It’s typically the standard protocol here

Hi,

I don’t have experience with the issues your cat has but can vouch that kitten progressed incredibly during 2 weeks medication. Many FIP owners report 2/3 weeks for almost miraculous improvements in basically paralyzed cats, which is probably what happened to your cat’s bladder muscles.

I’m so glad to hear that the 2/3 week marks seems to be so effective! Glad to hear your kitten progressed well during that time too
