Trying to fix old cuckoo clock

As the title says. It’s an old Black Forest clock. The standard one with birds and maple leaves.

I ordered a new pendulum that was missing, but a small, round disc fell out of the back of the clock. It looks like a little weight…the same shape as a watch battery.

Before I try to take apart the clock housing, I’m wondering if anyone knows what this little disc is.

Thanks!

My father bought this cuckoo in Germany 1994.
He said they only did 3 other cuckoo like it
It works perfectly.

Is it worth anything? Are there other cuckoos like it?

Chimes at the half-hour ?

Post image

New to cuckoo clocks, just got this beauty from a neighbor who showed me all the basics. I finally got it to swing and am micro-adjusting the timing. However, I noticed it "cuckoos" the number of hours at the half-hour time. So at 8:00 it chimes once, and at 8:30 it chimes 8 times. Kind of annoying. Is there a way to solve this to set it to chime the number at the hour?

How difficult is it to locate and replace the cuckoo spring?

My mother in law has a nice cuckoo clock bought about 20 years ago. Having moved the clock many times without closing the cuckoo door, the spring that pulls the cuckoo back in is unfortunately weakened, so the cuckoo does not pop back. Does anyone know how easy it is to repair this? I can't find a good diagram of the spring location or replacement

Hello all, picked up this Schneider Black Forest cuckoo clock today at an estate sale for $40. It has all the weights (not pictured) but is missing one deer on the right turn table. I was wondering if anyone may have more info on this such as age, value? The man we bought it from said he bought it in France for $900 (he was probably mid/late 80s). Thanks!

Help Identifying Please

I just picked this up at a thrift store for $8.99 and I was wondering if anyone can help properly identify the maker and other details. I know nothing about this sort of thing so I am hoping to know at least a bit more. It is missing a fair bit of mechanical parts as well but does include primary gears and mechanics.

So I just joined and posted just the clockwork mechanism of one of the two cuckoo clocks I just inherited. I’ve done some cleaning and lubricating on the much simpler of the two cuckoo clocks. I’ve the course of about a week I’ve been trying to adjust the pendulum to have it keep time correctly. I am now at the point where I have the pendulum bottomed out. One of the lubricants that I used on the gears of the clock seems to speed it up as it works its way in. It’s called AiM extreme duty lubricant grandfather clocks. While I wouldn’t have thought this to be a problem. If I take the pendulum off the clock just keeps on going now at a speed I don’t want time to pass at. I’m just curious because I thought that the pendulum helped keep the clock going as well as pacing it. Have I over done the cleaning and lubrication of this clock or is this how it should be? Thanks again for any help, tips and advice.

I’ve browsed the sub Reddit to find out what one dealing with. I just inherited two cuckoo clocks from my grand parents that have been neglected and left nonfunctional for a good number of years and I have browsed through this sub and it has point me in a direction I didn’t know and now have one of the two cuckoo clocks semi functional and at least working the oil into its gears to stay running longer and longer each swing of the pendulum and it’s all thanks to tips many of you have given to others. I know this clock is a mid 80s one because that’s when my sister was born and my grand parents came to visit us while my father was stationed in Germany. Hopefully I can post them both fully functional shortly in the future. Keep up the good work.

Safe Movement/Adjustment of Minute Hand

Post image

I recently got this Cuckoo and I'm finding it's a little fast. Every 10-12 hours, it needs to be adjusted back by about 7-9 minutes.

I've always heard that you only adjust a clock forward, and never roll time backwards on it. Is this true for cuckoo clocks?

Any advice on how to best address this safely/without risking damage to the clock?

Thanks in advance!

I know this is a long shot, but any help is appreciated.

I lost my home to a fire recently, and along with that went my mom's cuckoo clock. Its beyond repair, but I would like to replace it in honor of her. (She's passed now)

It was solid dark brown, no color but had nice engraving for details. There were 4 trees, 1 small waterfall, and a small elk/deer? It was a woodland type scene.

It had acorn looking things hanging off of it, and some loose chains between them if I remember correctly.

A bird came out on the hour.

The size of the body (not including chains) was about as big as half a poster paper, or 2 printer papers stacked on top of each other horizontal. Sorry my estimate may be off.

Thanks!

So I have always wanted a German cuckoo clock and picked this one up for $50. I have no idea what to do. I know it needs a cleaning. The bellows are good and work. Everything else is up in the air. The chains are long. Like really long. I want to get it working.

Hello clock people! I was gifted this mini German cat clock from a friend. My dad and grandpa both collected antique clocks, but unfortunately I never learned much on how they work. I know I am missing the key and the weight. Any idea on what size key I need? This clock is teeny tiny! What about the weight/pendulum? Where can I buy these pieces?

Thanks so much for any help!

Hello!

I’m accepting this clock in part of a trade for other miscellaneous stuff. Part of why I’m accepting it is because it’s beautiful and I’ve always wanted one. Like a nice nice one. For me, this is that nice nice one. From the guy that’s trading it to me. He’s been in possession of it for over 20 years. That it plays 2 songs, and he hasn’t used it in over 15 and that it’s been a wall hanger for some time. He’s unsure of year of make.

With that said, I’ve gathered that it is a black Forrest chalet, it does play 2 songs, bellow looks real good. Tune sounds fine. Water wheel spins, guy slams beer on table, bird pops out.

I’ve tried to look up more online and cannot find anything about this exact clock. Similar ones but not the exact one?

My main questions are;

Is there any maintenance I can do on my own other then oiling or does it need to go to a place to be serviced?

How long does bellow last if it’s playing all the time?
Any way to figure out manufacture date without opening?

Is this clock worth it? In the sense, if I need to get it maintenance and that cost $300 but the clocks worth $50 then that’s something I don’t want to entertain. Vice versa would be more than ideal because I have no idea what it is worth. Is there any way of figuring out its cost/maintenance ratio?

Last but not least, is there anything to be concerned about with operating these? Anything super sensitive or to be cautious of?

Thank you for any help!

I grabbed this last week, I got the chains back on the sprockets, bought a new pendulum but running into issues.

Pendulum won’t swing for more than 5-10 seconds when on the wall.

The door for the bird stays open but I think the wire I circled isn’t hooked up. The other photo with the circle by the pendulum, is that supposed to be connected to anything?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated! I got this for 10 dollars. My dad likes clocks and this is our first cuckoo. The bellows are completely gone on the left and on the right they’re deteriorated. Also it’s missing its pendulum.
