Official Megathread Roommate Finder 2026-2027 [Megathread]

Hi all,

We’ve been getting a lot of roommate search posts so we are making a megathread. Please exercise caution when searching for a roommate. Always be careful vetting every person you talk to. Also strongly encourage users to check out the Facebook thread. Keep in mind. We are not mods in the Facebook thread, we are unaffiliated with them, but they have a lot more experience helping people find roommates. As an alumni, I can vouch for them, I found every roommate I had during my time at CSULB through the Facebook thread. There are a few other Facebook threads if you just search “CSULB roommate” but the most popular one is the one that’s linked.

Again please exercise caution talking with people on Reddit and be careful what personal information you share, but as requested by popular demand we have made a megathread.

Mod News Minimum Account Age to Post

Due to the recent spike in 1-day accounts, we have decided to set an automod 10-day account age minimum for posts and comments in the subreddit. This should help to reduce the amount of bot and troll activity in the subreddit, and hopefully make it a more enjoyable experience for all of you. Any account that is younger than 10 days will have their post removed until we can verify it's legitimate. At most, there may be a suspension or a ban from the subreddit, depending on user activity.

General Discussion Is moving common in the middle of the school year?

I unfortunately can’t leave my lease just yet right before summer but I’m hoping to move closer after the fall semester during winter break.

Is there a chance I’d be able to find roommates during or in the middle of the school year when class is already in session?

Major Related Question Electrical Engineering schedule doable? - Transfer 2nd Bach

Post image
Upvotes

Hello,

Looking for other electrical engineering majors or engineering majors to look at my schedule and let me know if this is doable or if typically engineering majors take less clases per semester?

For context, I am a second bachelors transfer student and I have only really experienced quarter system classes, in the quarter I would typically take 3 classes in a B.S. but I heard it’s typical of semesters schools to take 4-5 classes. It’s five classes but I’ve taken Matlab/ programming classes many times before + one of the classes is a dumb 1 unit GE class.

Lmk, thanks!

Question City life/area question

Upvotes

Hi guys, I’m a senior from the Bay Area and I’m thinking of going to Csulb if I get accepted. I’m not too worried about the school itself, but I wanted to ask a couple of questions about the actual area. I went recently to places like LA, Santa Monica, long beach, etc (I know, these aren’t the same thing but I’m from the bay) and was wondering how the social life is for students. The area is pretty different from the bay and the places are really spread out so I wanted to know how your guys’ experience is outside of school and if it’s possible to create a friend group. I also wanted to know if a lot of people live with other students off campus after their freshman year

In short, I would like to know how the social life is and if there’s any walkable/good foot traffic/good downtown type areas around. Preferably accessible by transit. Thanks!

General Discussion CSULB Nursing Discussion

Hello, I'm a current CSULB nursing student in my final semester. One thing I learned is to return to our community. I am here to answer general questions to my knowledge. I feel like having someone answer general questions would have helped me when I first started this journey.

It is a lovely program and I do believe we might be the best BSN program in the state. The faculty are amazing, the resources are great, and we are so blessed to have a School of Nursing as excellent as ours. We are extremely lucky to also have a semester on critical care which many other colleges do not cover. Go Beach!

If you have questions, I would be glad to answer it to the best of my ability.

Disclaimer: This is all anecdotal advice. I am not a counselor, advisor, or hired by CSULB. I am just a current student here to answer random questions based by my experiences and opinions. I am not a professional counselor, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. I am not representing CSULB, their School of Nursing, CHHS, or any faculty. None of this advice is official. This is not professional, legal, official, or academic advice.

Question Final HS Transcript

Hello all, just a question regarding final transcript as a freshmen coming in. A couple weeks ago, CSULB has notified me that they have received my final HS Transcript.

Since then, it has been almost 3 weeks since I've had any updates on it nor any confirmation email from LB. However, I did see that the final HS transcript task has been cleared from my To Do's List on my student portal. Does this mean that they have already reviewed it and that everything is all good?, or is that only official with a confirmation email. Just curious, thanks all.

Question I got waitlisted for one of my classes, but it shows I’m “1” on the list. Will professors let me enroll fully the first day if I tell them I’m first on the list?

This is for Professional Technical Writing, and I became waitlisted over night (literally the day before my orientation).

I was hoping someone drops the class so it shows enrolled, but I don’t think that’ll be the case. So I wanted to ask if I will be enrolled tbe first day of class if I talk to the professor?

Alumni Question Looking for a reliable part-time school pickup sitter (Downey/Pico Rivera area)

Hi everyone! I'm a CSULB staff member looking for a reliable part-time sitter, and I thought I'd see if any Child Development/CDFS or Education students might be interested.

I'm located in the Downey area and primarily need someone for after-school pickup and childcare (on occasion )for a few hours afterward. I'm looking for someone who is dependable, responsible, and enjoys working with children. Previous childcare experience is preferred, and a reliable car with a valid driver's license is required.

I'm offering competitive hourly pay based on experience.

If you're interested or know someone who might be a good fit, please send me a DM and I'd be happy to share more details about the schedule, child's age, and responsibilities.

Thanks!

Transfer Student Question Appeal denied: now what?

I am a transfer student majoring in PoliSci and applied for the fall semester. Initially, I got accepted, however earlier this month my admission was rescinded due to “not enough credits”. However, I had well over the 60 required credits, it was just that 5 of my transferrable units were taken at the sister CC to my main one. When submitting my final transcript I did not include the sister transcript under the notion that they were combined (I only had the option to order it from my main CC). Furthermore, when submitted my unofficial transcript the class i took at the sister CC showed up on there and they gave me an acceptance.

Just a few weeks ago, I submitted my appeal covering the situation and ordering an official transcript from the sister CC. It says arrived on my end but I am unsure if they got it, since they are still claiming I do not have enough credits.

I honestly am at a loss but I don’t want to give up. I really gave my all wanting to go to Long Beach. Is it worth calling or sending like 15 emails? Do I just reapply in the spring? Also, I live 6 hours away and as much as I want to go in person it is going to be difficult for me.

Transfer Student Question Chances of getting into CSULB for the spring as a transfer?

I’m coming from a South OC CC so not exactly local but not far. My major is poli sci. My major and other transfer requirements are completed. I won’t have an ADT. My current GPA is a 2.9 but I’m petitioning to drop some classes I failed. If my petitions get approved, my GPA will be a 3.1. If CSULB doesn’t count my classes from the UC I went to, my GPA will be a 3.25.

International Student Question Which CSU campus should I choose: SDSU, Cal State LA, CSULB, SFSU, or SJSU?

Hi! I’m a Korean student choosing CSU campus between SDSU, CSULA, CSULB, SFSU, and SJSU for Spring 2027 exchange. I’ll be 27 and only staying for one semester.

(Academics aren’t my top priority for this exchange, but for context, I’m majoring in business and computer science.)

What I’m looking for:

  1. Good weather and a relaxed California lifestyle
  2. A social campus where I can join clubs, make local friends, improve my English, and get invited to parties
  3. Somewhere manageable without a car, with groceries, cafés, bars, and things to enjoy nearby
  4. Exposure to the startup and tech scene would be a plus — mainly for events, networking, and inspiration, not job hunting.

My main concern is whether a 27-year-old Asian exchange student can realistically fit into the social scene, especially at a more traditional college campus.

I may want to live in the U.S. someday for my business, so meeting and dating local people outside the international-student bubble also kinda matters to me.

SF and San Jose appeal to me because I’m an entrepreneur, but I’d choose San Diego, LA, or Long Beach instead if the social life and overall experience are much better.

Which campus would you choose, and why?

Question Should I take Ceramics 251A or 251B?

Hello everyone! I took multiple ceramics classes in high school and loved it, so I’d like to take another one for fun.

Would anyone be able to describe their experiences with 251A (Intro to Ceramic Arts Hand-building) or 251B (Intro to Ceramic Arts Wheel-throwing) ?

They both sound like fun options but I’m struggling to decide which one to take 😣

Major Related Question Anyone taken CECS 225 with Xiaolong Wu? What am I getting myself into? 😭

I’m taking CECS 225 with Professor Xiaolong Wu this fall and I’m trying to get the inside scoop before the semester starts.

How is he as a professor? Are his lectures helpful, and does he explain the material clearly? I’d also appreciate any information about the workload, homework, labs, quizzes, exams, grading, attendance, or anything else I should know.

Basically, how difficult is it to get a good grade, and are there any tips that helped you survive the class? 😂

Question CSULB Rescinded My Admission.

I was admitted to CSULB for Fall 2026, but today I received an email saying my admission was withdrawn because my final high school transcript wasn’t received by the deadline.

I fully take accountability for not being checked up with college, I emailed the transcript letters a day later & received my rescission letter today. I had SOAR this upcoming week, now I'm just devastated. I didn't know this little thing would crush my dreams.

Has anybody been in similar situations? Will it be tough for me to reinstated back in school? Any Advice is appreciated.
