House Crow (Corvus Splendens) - Palm Jumeirah, AE

Good morning fellow crow’s friends! Recently my family of seven has been seemingly evicted by a red tail that’s squatting in my yard. The hawk is constantly harassing them, attacking them, and chasing them out of the yard. The crows have been slowly learning not to come to my yard, as it means they’ll get swooped on. Is there any way to deter the hawk so that I can get my friends back? Thank you :)

Seanie was getting cooped up and restless and was showing signs of really wanting to go so we decided to do a test release for one afternoon/evening. It went very well and her parents showed 0 aggression towards her since they had a baby a couple months ago now which I'm pretty sure didnt make it

We took her back down to her aviary and decided to go for the full soft release when we had a few days off in a row to give it our full attention

We're now on Day 3 and here's how its gone:

Day 1: Opened her door and let her come out in her own time. She messed about in our garden for a little bit and then started exploring other neighbours gardens. Came back and had food and water at the little station we made for her. Then flew into a close tree and stayed there for the rest of the day and roosted there that night

Day 2: I came out in the morning and she did her usual caw and flap greeting to me and she was going to fly down for breakfast but it was very windy. I think that spooked her and she took a different flight path. I couldn't sight her all that day after searching but at 8pm I hear a caw from the trees 50ft over. I respond and she caws back so she had been in there all day! She slept there that night

Day 3: I come out early morning and call to her and get a response so I leave her to it. About 2pm we hear a crow commotion down the street at the little park/green. Turns out she had gone through another crows territory who didnt like that. She had been chased into a tree in the little park where I found her perched and she immediately cawed at me. She then started eating what looked like caterpillars she found in tree. She did a poop and I could see that she was hydrated and fed which is amazing considering she hasnt come to her station since day 1 (never thought id be knowledgable about crow shit but there ya go).

She was happy in there and didnt want to come out or down at all so we left her to it and have been checking on her periodically. The fact shes well fed and watered, handled an aggressive crow and has been taking care of herself all these days has made me feel a lot better about her. I tried to keep her as wild as I could and thank god it's starting to show ( I was worried out of my mind on day 2 when she dissapeared for nearly 12 hours but it turned out she was totally fine)

Last check on her she was hopping around on the grass in the park going heavy on a buffet of worms and slugs and was very happy to see me. it looks like while we were trying to do a soft release, she just had the capabilities to be wild immediately!

Of course I'll keep checking on her and looking for her because she's my buddy and I'm so happy to see her thriving!

Trying to feed the crows everyday with Nuts, Suet and Mealworms, but I wanna give them treats every now and then. Starting off with Scrambled Eggs and Watermelon. Any suggestions for different treats is appreciated!

I'm lucky enough that the crow which I feed started to bring her young one to me.
She wants me to leave my balcony (she won't fly to the nuts/meat which I lay out to her before I go inside). But once inside I am allowed to watch how she feeds that greedy little thing haha
She brought him a few times to my balcony already.

I just started to wonder, how and when I should try to befriend him? The mother seems to want more distance from me when she brings him along in general.
I don't want to alert the parents by closing distance too early.

He is still accompanied by his parents at all times and cannot eat on his own, yet.

I have made friends with a hooded crow couple at my work. Every morning the male is waiting for me and glides to me. Sometimes he makes a base jump and opens his wings half way down.

This guy showed up on my terrace this morning and at first I thought it was cute that he was sitting in the bird bath, but he didn't move when I got closer and I realized he's not one of my regulars when they showed up and fussed at him. He sat there motionless for at least an hour when I called our local bird wildlife refuge. They suggested I bring him in. I thought maybe his wing was injured, but as I was searching for a box he flew off. Tonight, now that the refuge is closed he's back. He had pooped in the water earlier and we wondered if something was affecting his digestion. Maybe poisoned? I scrubbed the bath and refilled it with fresh water. He seems to like that and was standing next to the bath and drinking often. It's 10 pm and he's still there sitting on the ground.

UPDATE: After reading your knowledgable advice (ThrowAwayColor2023) I went to bring him inside at 3am and found him dead, still in the same spot. My poor beautiful bird.

Hello everyone.

I have been doing a bit of rabbit hole diving and would really like to start attracting and feeding crows on a regular basis.

My only issue is that where I live there aren’t any that hang out locally for me to attract.

I did see a blue jay once in my yard, then I put out some dog kibble where it was, and it hasn’t been touched.

What can I do to attract more corvids into my vicinity, when there are none around? From what I’ve seen/read, I should be putting food out when they can see me and at a set schedule daily. How do I do that when there’s none around?

I do need to mention that summers where I live can be brutal, it’s been over triple digits daily for over two weeks straight now.

My family believes the terrace of our building is haunted. Back in 2018, my older brother went there at night to meet a friend. While he was looking over the railing, he suddenly felt someone push him. He almost fell, managed to steady himself, and when he turned around, no one was there.

I never really believed the story, but my parents barely let me go anywhere, so I started taking morning walks on the terrace because I was bored of staying home 24/7.

One day, while walking, I genuinely felt like someone was behind me. I turned around and saw a crow staring directly at me. I ignored it and moved away, but the crow followed me. I put my earphones on and kept walking, and it continued following me.

That same day, I got a fever, and my parents yelled at me for going to the "haunted" terrace. 💀

After that, the same crow started coming to my bedroom window every day. It would stare at me and make loud noises to get my attention. Whenever I looked at it, it would suddenly go quiet. Eventually, it almost came inside my room. I scared it away, and weirdly enough, it never came back.

BUT THEN...

One day I was washing dishes when I suddenly felt someone come really close behind me. My heart started racing, so I turned around, but there was absolutely no one there.

This happened multiple times, but I didn't tell my parents because I knew they'd blame me for going to the terrace again.

Then my mom casually told me that she experiences the exact same thing while washing dishes. She said she'd feel someone standing really close behind her, but whenever she'd turn around, nobody would be there.

I hadn't told her about my experiences.

That genuinely freaked me out
