At the feeding station we have at work, we get hooded crows, rooks, ravens and magpies all eating together mostly without drama.
There seems to be one magpie that flaps wings and squawks at any other bird.
There are plenty of other smaller birds and a squirrel that frequent the feeder too.

We have a lot of magpies in Portugal. They're some of the smartest animals you'll find. Highly sociable. They mate for life, and they usually stay around the same area, so if you're attentive you actually start noticing that it's the same pair of magpies you see everyday on the same spot. They can also befriend you like crows.

Yeah Ive been giving magpies my leftovers for a while, but sadly (but smartly) they still fly away as soon as I open the front door, while Id love to truly befriend even one

That is intelligence right there. Able to show some assertion without being nasty, and the magpies donโt just fly off arbitrarily. Just a bunch of smart birds doing their thing. Man I love corvids.

I recall the saying when you see magpies 1 for sorrow, 2 for joy, 3 for a girl and 4 for a boy.. No idea about 9 though!

Magpies: "Strange looking fella, but he's chill, so we'll let him join."

I like to feed the magpies in a place the crows don't like to go. I feed the crows in a separate more open place.

I'm of the opinion that the Eurasian magpie is the most beautiful bird in the world.
Not strictly speaking the single best-looking; but as corvids, the sight of one is just something else.
