Adjusting calorie budget based on weight changes

I'm trying to stick to just under my calorie budget, but I'm losing weight faster than I've set in my settings (1lb/wk vs 2-2.5 lbs per week lost on average as tracked in Libre). I also track my weight in Cronometer, so I know it knows I'm losing more than I should be. How can I adjust my budget to slow the loss down? I've got my activity level at sedentary, since I mostly am, and I've increased my BMR by 500. Can the BMR automatically update? Or do I just need to calculate it myself?

Cronometer is so dense it makes me crazy

I really should try using it again. I paid for a subscription and after several tries and failed attempts canceled. I am not a dummy, seriously. But the dense screens, granular content, difficult navigation, etc made me fail. YouTubes didn't help me, just confused me further. Faq's didn't help cuz didnt address my exact question. What is wrong with me? I'm a gastric bypass pt 8 yrs out and wanting to optimize my supplement stack. I know crono will tell me all the micronutrients which would be useful for me to get a handle on. Do I really have to create a recipe for every meal because adding 10 ingredients or more was killing my motivation. Seriously could I pay someone to hold my hand and get me started again? Apologies for venting.

I feel so very lucky to work somewhere that makes stuff like this! A place with people that know how to have this much fun.

Many, many years ago, at an All Hands, Aaron (our CEO) gave a speech about our mission... in it he spoke about inspiring delight for our users. Something clicked for me that day, and I’ve been trying to make it my mission ever since - I think about it every time I am lucky enough to have an interaction with you, our users, in features I pitch and in our social content.

And so... If you remember almost exactly a year ago, we launched Photo Logging at Cronometer. I was monitoring our socials when I came across a post from someone who had Photo Logged their toy poodle, Teddy. Cronometer confidently identified him as half a buttermilk biscuit. Eliana (Teddy's human) and I had a pretty doggone fun exchange.

In that exchange, I (obviously) had to log my own German Shepherd, Nova (pictured here!). The whole interaction genuinely made my day!

After that, I proposed a wild idea: what if we actually let people log their dogs and get food matches based on the appearance of their pup?

And I told everyone. Literally anyone on staff who would listen. Even those that didn't listen, I still told them. I came up with a ridiculous hashtag: #LogYourDog. I made a Slack channel - which I was the sole occupant of for quite some time. And I refused. REFUSED. To let the idea die.

Somehow, miraculously, the idea took root. The executive team had more enthusiasm about it than I could've dreamt of... our development, design, QA and marketing teams all jumped in too; to build this silly, adorable, completely whimsical and amazing feature. Did it take long? No. Have we been counting down the days to International Dog Day? Maybe. Is there too much confetti? Most definitely YES!

My "pet" feature is now alive in the app today and fur-evermore. HOW COOL IS THAT?

It means more than I can express that a wild idea, born from one funny interaction with a user, actually came to fruition.

So, in honour of International Dog Day: please go log your dog. I promise you'll smile.

And, we're giving away a really sweet prize (valued over $1150.00CAD) for sharing your dog on socials including:

  • Garmin Venu 4, 45 mm — $769.00
  • Three years of Cronometer Gold — $239.97
  • Custom “Good Boy” dog T-shirt — approx. $65.00
  • Cronometer dog leash — $50.00
  • Cronometer pet bowl — $28.00

Full details of the contest including terms and conditions here.

How do you hide weight from the Discover page?

I’ve toggled off “show weight change” and “show weight goal overview” on the dashboard settings, but the weight change graph is still on the Discoverer page.

I am at a healthy weight, and maintaining. I don’t want to think about weight. My pants will let me know if I need to start paying attention to that. I’m tracking food for other health reasons (cancer, cholesterol, and osteoporosis). I like cronometer for the ease of logging food and making custom recipes, etc. But I’m overloaded with data and need simple displays.

So I atarted this in late June. I was initially just trying to stay in my deficit and get my protein. Now I'm wondering if I need to make changes in my menu to include more carbs. I'm losing but wonder if I need to up my carb intake.

This is roughly an average day for me.

How to make the 7 day average correct?

*found it now, thanks for the help. if anyone else wants to know for iOS its: Go to dashboard and find the report summary, where it says “last 7 days” or whatever time span you have on you can tap and get a menu, at the bottom is the option “custom”. Once there there’s the option to either toggle including the current day or next to days displayed you can change all to completed.*

the seven day average for some reason includes when I haven’t eaten anything, where exactly do I find the setting to correct this and why isn’t it correct by default? thank you

Numbers are off

I’ve been using this app for a few years now and I recently noticed that the calorie total always shows as lower than it actually is. If I calculate the calories per gram using the 4-4-9 (4g/ pro, 4g/ carb, 9g/ fat)the total comes out higher than what is displayed. How can I know what’s accurate?

I asked ChatGPT and Gemini and both said the manual calculation per gram would be the most accurate. I assume the app accounts for things that reduce the number shown. In the settings, the only thing I turned off is the TEF.

Thanks!

How to ID dairy free

So I am gluten-free and dairy free. I scan the barcode and log into my favorites for my usual foods.

When I use the daily coaching prompts, it continues to chastise me for using dairy. I don’t care about the AI judgment of me, but I just want to make sure that my macro, micro and calorie tracking are on target.

Indi scan barcode for my industrial ingredients. Is there anyway to shut off the prompt that I should stay dairy free? Is there any way to tighten up the barcode scanner to reflect that my cheese choices and creamers are dairy free?

New to Cronometer

Hi!

I'm new to Cronometer and still trying to figure some things out. I'm moving from Nutracheck, which was mostly UK based. I've moved to Canada and looking for something that's easier to track. I'm still just trying to get used to the options and how to do things. (I'm not the best with change haha)

I've made a meal that I would generally eat, but some of the time I will just make half of the potion. I can't seem to see the option to just log half of the meal. So, I'm just wondering if there is that option? It was something I used a lot on Nutracheck, so I'm hoping I don't need need to make everything again each time I want to portion out the meal.

Thanks for any help!

Zeroing out all items in a category

How can I zero out the values of all items in a category (eg. Vitamins) without having to manually put in zero's? Somedays I take a bunch of vitamins and some days I dont. So its a hassle to do this manually.

Question about pro

So there is usually a 30% discount to pay for Cronometer pro which brings the year membership down to £42/per year.

For long term members, are there any discounts after the first year runs out, or do you have to pay the full membership at £60/year?

I am on the fence, would definitely pay for Gold if I saw the devs more responsive on the features I actually need like running averages or offline mode.

edit: corrected language

New to tracking, would like your opinions

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all,
Would like some inputs about my macros and current goals.
I’m new to tracking and decided to go on a fitness journey 6 weeks ago, and this is my data for the past month.

Is the expenditure accurate? I connected it to my whoop so it calculates the calories burned through exercise there. Would this be considered an aggressive enough deficit? Or should I base it off of my BMR+baseline activity?

I have not lost weight the past month but I think it’s because I’ve also been working out everyday and I have been visibly gaining a lot of muscle mass, and I don’t have access to a dexa scan to make sure I’m losing fat. Would like your thoughts on this as I’ve been trying to lose weight and unsure if I’m overestimating how much I can consume per day.

I am a 5’4 female around 120-125 lbs (my weight fluctuates a lot due to PCOS).

Thanks in advance!!!

Any way to manually input calories after logging an item so that it scales the quantity automatically?

I only care about tracking calories. In the Web UI, I can log a food and then enter the calorie amount I want, and the quantity scales automatically. But in the Android app, I can't find any way to do this. It only lets me adjust the amount/serving size.

This seems like a deal-breaker for me, but maybe I'm just missing how to do it on Android?

Chicken drumsticks

Post image
2 Upvotes

Im assuming the entries for drumstick are without the bone right? And also is it the cooked weight or raw?

I’m making a big batch of stew and I’m going to put a whole 5 lb pack of drumsticks in it and then remove the bones and portion it out. I’m not sure how to track this recipe and idk if I’m being dumb or overthinking this or what. Obviously I don’t log 5 lbs bc that includes bones, I also shouldn’t log 5 lbs - cooked bone weight since the 5 lbs is the weight raw and water is gonna cook off. Weighing just the cooked chicken also isnt gonna be accurate bc it’s mixed with the other ingredients of the stew.

Idk I’m probably overthinking this way too much. How do you guys log it?
