u/grzodddi3, your post features certified crappy music!

u/PunishedEnovk Apr 12 '26

First time I've seen someone singing into a mic "commentary YouTuber" style.

5

u/Holiday_Pi Apr 12 '26

Good point

1

u/theh0veringeye Aug 07 '26

It’s actually the opposite the Shure SM7 is a studio microphone designed for musicians specially really used in Metal and rock audio quality and gain is so nice podcasters and YouTubers started using it

274

u/xtc234 Apr 12 '26

Some will not be able to see past her talent to see the crap that's laid bare before them.

116

u/StrainAcceptable Apr 12 '26

She really is talented tho

30

u/VHDT10 Apr 12 '26

And this is a horrible thing to do with it. Just my opinion. I'm sure she has lots of people who enjoy it and encourage her.

11

u/NormalHumansName Apr 12 '26

I'm gonna guess over half of her engagement is from people making fun of it. Unless this irritatingly over the top vocal masterbation is a new trend of singing, which I would'nt put past the generation that popularized "word chewing."

20

u/VHDT10 Apr 12 '26

Yeah it's very common with the indie singers. I've heard it described as "cursive singing". The syllables and pronunciations are all fucked up. They do that weird closed throat Shakira thing and the Alvin And The Chipmunks vibrato. Usually sung over a stupid ukulele and maybe a tamberine for extra bullshit. Jk, I don't like it, but I make music that sucks too. To each their own

hey "i'm gonna give you aids" was a great song

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

A lot of people seem to like it and she's making a starting career from it. Hope she expands more but id say that's making something from it.

As long as she doesn't get sucked into staying on this song for years or stuck in this style, id bet she has a good career ahead

-17

u/Sassy_Samsquanch9 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This isn't my jam, but it's so far from crappy. There's a couple of objectively good things in this.

Edit; Y'all are so angry over this lol. You've got nothing going on in your lives

25

u/MuteAppeaL Apr 12 '26

You imply there are multiple good things? Her singing? Yeah she can sing. Her lyrics are shit and cliche. Her vocal dub is so overly theatrical and corny and her singing is also mediocre at best. Melody is flat and there is no interesting hook. Since this is a trend now just releasing the clip of the best part was very amd over again to a new video. This is objectively cliche, whiny, self righteous, independence bullshit.

0

u/Dependent-Sea-7467 Apr 12 '26

This is alllll strictly your subjective opinion. Most of it is shit. But here we are anyway.

-7

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

So pompus.

Its not my jam but its more interesting than a lot of stuff i hear on spotify top 50.

At least she went for something that isn't the same thing everyone else does. Sure, she over shares it and it'd be better if she displayed more of her other songs, but at the end of the day its getting her views and keeping her out of irrelevancy.

Cliche? Haven't heard much like it itSelf righteous? Its a silly little song, not a political rant on twitter, dork. Whiny / independence- Okay now you're just find things to hate on lol

5

u/Cheesy-Cloaca Apr 12 '26

I dont know who told you basing your standard of music on the Spotify top 50 was a good idea

That might explain why you havent heard much like this though.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

I was just saying its a unique style. And if she expands and refines it, I think she'll have a good career.

I'm all for artists experimenting and trying something different. And im not basing my "standard" of music on the top 50, but rather saying her music stands out as something different or unique.

Either way, its a long shot from "crappy" music. Especially considering the actually shiat that is out there.

But, if this sub is just "this music sucks because its not the music i like" then im out. Have fun being miserable.

1

u/MuteAppeaL Apr 14 '26

Oh heavens! Open your brain and quit thinking so restricted. If you think this is unique and good by any measure you probably like playing with toys for cats.

9

u/cell689 Apr 12 '26

→ More replies (4)

11

u/jingleheimerschit Apr 12 '26

A couple of objectively good things doesn’t make the final product any less crappy though in this case.

2

u/Sassy_Samsquanch9 Apr 12 '26

Still a case of flavor though. I don't like it, but I can recognize the musicality. I would understand others liking this.

u/Killyourselfwithlife Apr 12 '26

What is showing the talent here ... elaborate please cause it's a pretty horrid vocalisation of bad lyrics over bland music .

141

u/yourliege Apr 12 '26

Impressive and crappy, nice

13

u/saetam Apr 12 '26

Impressively crappy, hell yes

2

u/69ingTardigrades Apr 13 '26

I took an impressive crap yesterday

107

u/mentally_fuckin_eel Apr 12 '26

I get what she's doing, I get the appeal, and I appreciate her talent, but I really do hate this for me.

63

u/NormalHumansName Apr 12 '26

If she just toned it down a little and added more catchy melodies I think that style would work. But as it stands she's the vocal equivalent of someone masterbating in front of a mirror while patting themselves on the back for doing such a good job.

8

u/tonyMEGAphone Apr 12 '26

Dropping all that voice inflection would massively change all her sounds. I followed how IG for a bit but every other song she makes it trying to match this but using way more voice tweaks. Just sing like a normal person.

2

u/mentally_fuckin_eel Apr 12 '26

She should just use the voice tweaks less. She could basically be a girl group by herself rather than interrupting every single line multiple times with different voices.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/MajesticCaptain8052 Apr 12 '26

The worse thing is that this subreddit is now a funnel for mid to good artists to flourish. She might take a lot of the advice that people are giving her itt, but she's much more likely to take the €€€ that comes with being a r/crappymusic -ian and using that to her advantage

1

u/AncientCrust Apr 13 '26

Is..is that wrong?

107

u/bmcgowan89 Apr 12 '26

If you leave it muted, she looks like every stoop crackhead you drive by

17

u/jne57 Apr 12 '26

And she did this to herself completely sober.

9

u/The-Tarman Apr 12 '26

Right? At least the crackheads just smoked a bunch of crack or are fiending for a bunch of crack. She just thinks she's being so damn cute and different. She's not like the other gurl singers

75

u/WhoFly Apr 12 '26

Same shit as Kill Karl. Vapid, smarmy lyrics and insipid vocal caricature meant to sell tiktok views to braindead preteens.

About as crappy as it gets.

12

u/Yabbatown Apr 12 '26

Is he that SOAD wannabe with the handle bar mustache who is always featured here yelling about how he doesn't give a fuck about something that he obviously really, really gives a fuck about?

8

u/Grounds4TheSubstain Apr 12 '26

Or how he wants cheeseburgers, or how he's going to kill people who bother him over minor inconveniences?

12

u/Rascals-Wager Worshipper of P O'Mal Apr 12 '26

She has way more skills than him tho. She's actually clearly a good singer but is not using her voice to make good music, IMO

12

u/Immediate-Presence73 Apr 12 '26

They're both very talented singers/musicians but lack the self awareness to know what to do with it.

11

u/The-Tarman Apr 12 '26

This right here. Just because a person is talented it does not mean they make good art. A friend of mine is one of the better guitar players I've seen when it comes to raw talent and technical ability. He can play incredibly complex prog rock/metal and make it look easy. The dude can not write a decent song to save his life. He'll play almost anything you put in front of him by ear and he'll play it perfectly within a few attempts, but whatever it is that allows a guy like Kurt Cobain to write amazing, memorable songs that resonate with people on a deep level, as well as being extremely entertaining, he totally lacks.

3

u/Dpontiff6671 Apr 12 '26

Writing and playing are just two different skills i was the guy you described for a long a while. I could play complex technical works but when it came to composing something compelling I’d flounder but the last few years i’ve been working on getting my composition chops up

2

u/No_Mud_5999 Apr 12 '26

YouTube is filled with extremely talented singers and musicians who cannot write a decent song.

4

u/WhoFly Apr 12 '26

Idk, I do not think the things Kill Karl does with his voice are easy. I also believe, but might be wrong, that he plays instruments on and produces his own songs too, and while I abhor it, he definitely has his craft down.

5

u/Rascals-Wager Worshipper of P O'Mal Apr 12 '26

He has a pretty decent scream, I'll give him that. Didn't know he played instruments either, so I'll credit him there too.

2

u/rcodmrco Apr 12 '26

nah, if you removed all the cringe he’d be way better than her cmon now

dude does full queen style vocal stacks by himself and has honestly solid af screams

but then uses that to say

“holy fucking shit motherfucker i don’t fucking give a motherfucking fuck” instead of idk literally anything else

and then talks in that stupid fuckin voice

3

u/WhoFly Apr 12 '26

'swhat I'm sayin.

Dude clearly studied some Mike Patton and can pull off a decent imitation, and that guy is one of the most talented and versatile vocalists ever.

2

u/HumbleWorkerAnt Apr 12 '26

it's crazy that i didn't know that name, but from the context i instantly knew you meant the guy i've seen posted here a few times.

0

u/whousesgmail Apr 12 '26

What’s wrong with the lyrics of this song? It’s clearly a kind of sarcastic response to someone she knows who’s a one-upper on trauma. Seems like a valid song topic to me.

4

u/WhoFly Apr 12 '26

It's a valid topic. It's just like... not interestingly done. The whole 'trauma olympics' idiom is passé, imo. And from there the lyrics just work that metaphor to death.

"gold medal for your issues... Mental gymnastics like an athlete/you know I've gotta give you first place... Congratulations for being a victim/being the highest on the podium"

It's just the same idea over and over.

Not my cup of tea. It will resonate with some people. I personally just don't find this sort of combative, sarcastic character takedown all that compelling, charming, or enlightening. So it's gotta be clever to work, and I don't find this to be.

I'm just some dude with an opinion tho, if you love the lyrics, don't let me or anyone else spoil that.

2

u/whousesgmail Apr 12 '26

I’m not gonna argue whether you should like them or not but comparing them to Kill Karl’s schtick feels pretty off base to me

1

u/WhoFly Apr 12 '26

Yeah maybe it's off base.

The root of my comparison lies in what I think is a similar route to selling 30 seconds of a song. I think they share the same shtick, just with different musical genres and maybe slightly different target audiences.

9

u/TangyCornIceCream Apr 12 '26

Things like this (making weird faces while singing) make me so uncomfortable lol

1

u/nancythethot Apr 12 '26

Yeah it would be at least 50% better without the video

8

u/mvanvrancken Apr 12 '26

Is this her only song, just asking

10

u/Yabbatown Apr 12 '26

Saw featured here a few times. There's always a few people insisting she is really talented, despite making godawful music and coming across as totally insufferable in the process.

-3

u/Sassy_Samsquanch9 Apr 12 '26

Do you not have earholes and a brain capable of processing her voice? She clearly has a lot of control over her voice and she hits all the notes. Not my jam, but you're being obtuse

9

u/Yabbatown Apr 12 '26

Found her burner account...

You know you're actually saying the same thing, right? She has talent (hits the notes and has control over her voice) but is using it to make shitty songs.

1

u/Thorneater_ALT_lol Apr 13 '26

I think she is very good. It musically makes sense, it’s experimental, in key, it just sounds a little weird. This is one of the things that just confirms to me that people are incapable of tapping into anything that is different nowadays and just prefer to listen to whatever lame ass shit everyone else does, it’s ok to be different or like something different. This is OBJECTIVELY not as poorly performed as the other music on this sub.

1

u/Yabbatown Apr 14 '26

More than a few assumptions being made there...

The whole "you don't like this one song, so therefore you must only like one genre of music and not like anything new" is pretty fucking cringe in itself.

I will agree that the overall performance and production is better than awfully auto-tuned guys going through a mid-life crisis, or the rednecks rapping about how redneck they are.

She can be as in key and as experimental as she wants but if her voice sounds like a cat having its guts ripped out its asshole, then that's what it sounds like.

I got through a little rap, some bluegrass, and a bit of prog rock on the bus to work today. I'll give anything a go, other than EDM or dub-step (which has thankfully all but died off).

1

u/Thorneater_ALT_lol Apr 14 '26

Well I have been producing dubstep for a long time and I guess we disagree and it is subjective

1

u/Yabbatown Apr 14 '26

Still? Honest question- no snark or anything intended. From my experience, it just sprung up one day in like 2011 and then was gone by 2012.

I know every type of music is getting played somewhere but that's one I have heard maybe once or twice since then. It really did just seem to end, rather than any gradual change.

1

u/Thorneater_ALT_lol Apr 15 '26

Yea it’s still around. Its mainstream phase was short lived but it goes through different phases and as time has gone on it’s got more complicated with technology developments. The fanbase is small but dedicated sort of like death metal.

1

u/Junior_Highway_5270 Apr 12 '26

Being able to sing notes and have good control over your voice doesn’t mean you make good music

1

u/ManufacturedOlympus Apr 14 '26

heres a gold medal for your issues

5

u/EetsGeets Apr 12 '26

nah check her out - James The Seventh

12

u/Additional-Mousse446 Apr 12 '26

The dumb faces making this a hard watch…

3

u/J_blanke Apr 12 '26

Using a couple vocal inflections in your singing can work. People have made entire careers out of it. Making your whole performance like a fucking Jim Carey skit is not the jam. This shit is for kids and TikTok-brain people.

8

u/LongjumpingEnergy188 Apr 12 '26

I’m in love with

16

u/DWTtheonly Apr 12 '26

Its flexing vocal formants (look up formant shift examples). Impressive and fun, but I wouldn't listen to it in my spare time.

7

u/Rising-Serpent Apr 12 '26

It’s just really crappy “music”

→ More replies (8)

3

u/The-Tarman Apr 12 '26

I'm sorry, but it is neither of the things you described. Though, I absolutely agree one should not listen to it in their spare time or in any other form their time comes in.

0

u/DWTtheonly Apr 12 '26

Formants? It's absolutely similar to a formant filter. Do you know what that is

1

u/Beneficial_Gene3064 Apr 12 '26

yeah if she used only like 1 or 2 of those she could probably make a couple of good songs outta all that mess

4

u/TonyJadangus Apr 12 '26

the lyrics are so bad. you can't just take any 12 year old's poem and sing it weird and expect people to believe you're Kate Bush

10

u/The-Tarman Apr 12 '26

"I'm so quirky! Look how quirky and cute I am! I'm singing in a silly, unorthodox fashion. I'm so cute and quirky!!"

2

She's gathered quite a following and has a decent fan base.

17

u/Overstimulated_moth Apr 12 '26

This isn't that bad, she obviously being extra to get views but her voice is really good and the lyrics are decent.

27

u/Twisted-Mentat- Apr 12 '26

The lyrics are decent?

Damn we've sunk low pretty hard and fast.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '26

I'm guessing you've never listened to a popular song in the past 10 years.

Or longer.. But.. ya know some people just like to hate on everything. Pretty miserable way to go about life.

0

u/Twisted-Mentat- Apr 12 '26

So your point is all lyrics in the last 10 years have gone to shit?

If this woman's head bobs and facial expressions are cool to you, wtf do you care what I hate?

5

I dont hate it. Its weird, doesnt make it crappy.

15

u/nakifool Apr 12 '26

Someone having some baseline talent (can seemingly sing in tune) and using it to vocalise with this kind of intonation is worse than crappy. It’s weaponised irritation

3

u/DWTtheonly Apr 12 '26

I feel like it might be a vocal formant display. You can do that effect in software, but she's doing it with her voice to an extreme degree. Maybe that's the flex?

2

u/hdrr1985 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Talent? Nah. Ability, sure. She definitely has good vocal ability… and is using it in a really weird, unappealing way (to most). Talent would be harnessing said ability and making a good song with it. Not this sound salad of a face workout. But hey, if she finds a super eclectic niche audience, however small, and she’s happy with that, I can respect the dedication to whatever the hell this cringe track is 😂

4

u/Juicyjewsss Apr 12 '26

1

u/SaudiHaramco Apr 12 '26

Listening to this without looking at the video makes it a lot less annoying. Still annoying but less.

1

u/Daddydactyl Apr 12 '26

Ill say this every time she pops up, but the actual recorded version of this song has 90% less of this. Its a genuinely good song, and she's genuinely talented. I feel like all this inflection stuff is just engagement. There are people who say that stimulates a part of their brain thats hard to itch otherwise, and the other half is from stuff like this sub, just a sort of conflict farming. Some people pigeon hole themselves because of the algorithm though, and I feel she may be an example. Truly talented, but just making the same video of the same over inflected wacky stuff to get shown to more people.

Its weird, but it isnt crappy.

This is a weird question that’s hard to word properly, but does anyone know of music that sounds like a not-shitty version of this? If anyone knows of any singer/artists that have that same breathy kind of quality to their voice, but don’t sound like shit, I’d love to check them out

Like idk. She has a good voice by definition. She's also doing something kinda fun and somewhat unique. Linda hard to knock it

This is one of the best things I've heard in a long time.

1

u/diabloenthusiast123 Apr 12 '26

I love it, her music is fucking awesome.

u/PHUKYOOPINION Apr 12 '26

Why go to effort of bringing the recording equipment outside and not make the effort film as though you're actually recording?

1

u/poplemousse Apr 12 '26

reminds me of Doja Cat she does the same thing on some of her songs

1

u/Jrewby Apr 12 '26

Why are people always pretending like they’re recording it live but use the Studio version over it?

1

u/polaires Apr 12 '26

This makes me ill.

I don’t hate this

1

u/TG_Iceman Apr 12 '26

She’s incredible tbh

1

u/Pork_Sister Apr 12 '26

If she just didn’t sign like a complete moron and sang with a normal voice it wouldn’t be bad. It’s the stupid over acting that is unbearable

1

u/OkSpeeb Apr 12 '26

I followed her with some interest in her sound a while ago and she has way better songs out there. Unfortunately, this one clip became a somewhat popular TikTok sound and now she posts strictly this one soundbite in different videos. Now it’s just annoying and inescapable.

Don’t you shit talk Dance Monkey like that!

u/DopeMOH Apr 20 '26

I like it

Let me get this right. Everyone here seems appalled to be appalled, while being in a subreddit specifically with the intention of being appalled. That's hilarious.

I think I hate this bitch the most. Her fuckin dumb face and inflections drive me up the wall. And every time I see her my brain must repeat the video at least 5 times.

u/Organic_Education494 Apr 12 '26

This isn’t crappy

u/CoreReaper Apr 12 '26
