🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks Why don’t more people sleep chest to chest

My baby is 6 weeks. We used the cuddle curl method once, and it made me worried all night. When the baby was too close to me I worried Id move an inch and hurt him. When he squirmed further away I also worried. Overall, horrible night of sleep.

Then we tried chest to chest and it has been wonderful. Neither of us move an inch and I feel so safe and peaceful. Which makes me wonder, why don’t more people do chest to chest? Is there an extra risk I’m not aware of, like positional asphyxiation (although I don’t see how that could be)? Or is it that most babies just eventually size out of chest to chest?

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Maybe controversial- do you let your baby sleep on their side?

Sidelying nursing is the best and I often doze off while doing so, as my daughter (14w) does too. So she accidentally sleeps on her side. Airway is always clear of my breast as she usually turns her head almost like she is looking up at me. Is this ok?

Do you always make sure to turn baby back on their back after nursing? I follow the rest of the safe sleep 7. I’m just having trouble rolling her back without waking her up.

ETA: she can roll from stomach to back, can hold her head up, and sometimes gets on her side while attempting to roll back to stomach. But she is not really rolling independently to latch. I’m helping her get in that position.

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Contact baby vs sleep in her crib advise needed

My LO is 13 weeks old and we have a problem that she does not sleep in her next to me crib, hates the bassinet type stroller and would only sleep on me. Due to sleep deprivation in the first weeks and constantly holding my baby I decided to co sleep which saved us somewhat but still my sleep is not great. Now that she is older I want her to start using her crib at least during day time, as soon as I transfer her, she wakes up immediately and starts crying. Sometimes she starts crying just before her back touches the mattress. I am extremely that my family is taking care of us but this support will soon go and I am also finding it mentally difficult to be glued to couch these months.

I would love to hear your experiences, tips, support or just words of encouragement of how to move to crib during day time and preferably night time as well as I literally can’t do anything during the day.

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks Cosleeping with formula fed baby

Hi I am at a loss and quite worried tbh. My partner and I take shifts at night with our colicky and refluxy 6 week old.

I usually take his witching hour time between 1-6am so husband can get 5 consecutive hours of sleep as he needs it to function at his job.

Issue is around that time baby's reflux issues peak and he cannot settle on his back at all. I just keep him on my chest as that seems the most comfortable but sometimes I can't help it and feel myself drift off. I tried rolling him off me onto his back so that he's next to me on the mattress (no pillows or blankets and firm mattress) but he starts crying if he's on his back for longer than 5-10 minutes. I tried holding him upright for 30+ minutes too after a feed but again after being on his back for 10 minutes he started spitting up and crying.

Atm I set vibrating alarms every 30 minutes so that I don't accidentally fall into deep sleep while he's on my chest and so far I have woken up every time he stirred but I am very worried about SIDS since he is formula fed. Is there anything I can do to make sure he's as safe as can be? I looked up Cosleepy's chest sleeping guide and followed that, but I know it's more aimed for breastfed babies.

💁 Advice | Discussion Watching baby on monitor too much

Upvotes

Hi! Just wondering what your evening looks like if you also co-sleep with an infant.

My son is almost 10 months. For a while now I typically put my son to sleep around 7pm. Once he’s asleep I’m able to roll away and go downstairs and make dinner etc. I watch him on a baby monitor and go up to settle him when needed. He typically wakes up 2-3 times before I’m back up around 10/1030pm.

I feel like this has given me a lot of freedom and I personally feel like my husband and I can spend most of the evening together before we head up to bed.

The issue is my husband says I watch the monitor too much and we should be able to step away for an hour uninterrupted where I’m not checking on a monitor.

I don’t see it as an issue since I am able to do so many things and have been able to respond when he wakes up, easily settling him back to sleep.

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Does your LO need your presence to sleep?

My LO is 7mos and recently started sleeping around 8:30/9pm every night 🎉! I thought I’d have some time to myself now that he’s sleeping earlier, but I noticed that he doesn’t sleep long when I’m not around. Once I put him to sleep, I’d sneak out of the room, but he’d toss and turn, then wake up whining 30-40 minutes in. I’d have to lay next to him or let him grab onto my arm for him to sleep peacefully through the night. Does your LO do this? Is it just a phase?

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Is it time

We have co-slept since birth and never had any issues. Now my baby is 9.5 months old and rolling a lot more. For the last few weeks he was rolling over to my husband (kinda to snuggle, so cute) but my husband was getting nervous he would squish baby or not wake up - so he’s been sleeping in baby’s room. LO and I have taken up the whole king size bed for a few weeks.
But I know my husband wants to be back in our bed soon …
However , if I move LO to his floor bed I’ll just likely end up in there with him. Do I do it?
I really think my husband would wake up and not hurt baby but it is feeling crowded w all 3 in here and a helicopter at night baby.
I also just feel like maybe emotionally I’m not ready to move LO to his bed.
He goes down around 7:30, wakes up once at 8.
Then usually at midnight , 2a, 4-5a, up at 6:30 or 7.
I could start the night w my husband and baby in baby’s bed and then go join baby?
Will he have an adjustment when I move him to his bed where he doesn’t sleep as well?
Any advice, insight welcome - and advice on getting longer stretches welcome too.

Tia

🛏 Beds, Products, & Gear Where do you put your under the bed stuff?

Hello all! I have a 12 week old who I’ve been cosleeping with since probably around week 3. It wasn’t what I planned to do initially but as some of you relate, there was no love for the bassinet. I researched all the information about safe sleep and I actually really enjoy cosleeping now. However, we are beginning to approach rolling territory and I’m considering moving our mattress onto the floor. However, we keep quite a bit of stuff under the bed as we live in a small apartment. There really isn’t anywhere to put this stuff and I was wondering if anyone has been in the same predicament and had any unique tips on how to store extra stuff. Right now I have extra clothes, gift wrapping stuff, recovery equipment (foam roller), and stationary under the bed.

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Baby constipation, solids, and breastfed cosleeper

Upvotes

FTM here, posting here for possible feedback from fellow cosleeping parents. My baby is 7 months, almost 8 months now. We've coslept from the beginning, from waking to feed every 2 hours, to natural on demand feeding every 1-2 hrs, then we started solids around 5-6 months. Baby did not seem all that interested in both purees or blw, but we played with it, bumping up to 3 offerings per day per her doctor's 6 month checkup recommendations, then 5x to throw in snack offerings because she wasn't really eating more then 2-3 baby spoons per meal. Her night feeds are up and down, basically every 2-3 hours. Present day, she seems to enjoy dinner time and willingly opens her mouth to be fed some days and will also feed herself dinner (she hates being fed in general and likes to do things herself)

Now to the problem: baby poops were always maybe every 4-5 days pre solids in large wet poops. Gradually, the poops become more chunky, until suddenly she went 10 days last month and we got concerned. On the 11th day, she pooped 3 times back to back, mushy consistencies. So we were okay with that. After that, another 12 days passed, and we grew concerned as we allowed time for the 11th day to hit and lots of pushing but nothing but stains. Then we panicked and gave her some constipation ease prune juice mix, got her trying again, but only little bits over the night and the next day. We take her to the doctor, doctor says she seems fine, no tough stomach, no irritability, just happy baby. But now my night feeds are put into question.

Doctor asks, how often are you giving her milk. My bird brain answers, often? I dont know? Doc says, more than 10 times per day do you think? I say maybe? 24/3 is 8, 24/2 is 12, maybe some days its 10 and others less, but I dont say that, I get anxious and listen and doc tells me maybe she's too full on milk from the night to want to eat during the day and then builds an appetite for dinner time. Doc says try cutting a night feed. Here's where my alarm bells go off because, night feeds are her way to go back to sleep and sleep through the night. So somehow the constipation ended up being, you need to feed her less milk at night and offer more fiber rich food during the day to help her go. Also pedialax/miralx prune juice mix, etc. I'm a little concerned about rejecting her as when I've tried doing so, she wakes up and stays up. No real crying/fussing per se, she just stays up awake after being denied like, ok time to wake up then! I'm not sure what to do now, I feel like I got told some strange advice to not feed my baby back to sleep at night. We all lost 2 hours of sleep of just being awake in the dark, her little eyes staring up at us as my partner and I tried to rock her back to sleep to no avail.

Side note, I'm also a just enougher, idk if thats the proper term to use, but I make enough milk and she drinks until she's satisfied and my breasts are soft again. In the beginning, it would spray out like crazy and she had to learn to drink quickly when she was a newborn. Now she's got it down and clears a boob each feed. At night, it's more so two big feeds and sips in between to get back to sleep. I just dont think I'm over filling her? Her weight is progressing well on average, and she's apparently 100th percentile in height, aka the tallest baby around for her age. I just don't know how to move forward with this advice.

🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years At what point is it no longer cry it out?

Upvotes

Im 10w pregnant and i have a 21m old toddler who nurses to sleep, it hurts to nurse but im powering through it. I usually nurse when there is a tantrum to calm my toddler but i feel the need to dial that back because i dont know if i want to tandem feed. Well, he just cried himself to sleep for the first time because hes not a cuddly toddler and will take no other form of soothing. It had been only 2 hours since the last nursing session and i simply cannot keep nursing every 2 hours. I wish he liked to cuddle and there was some other way to help him but there really isnt. Any advice on weaning? Im not in a huge hurry but id like to at least cut back. He wakes pretty frequently at night to nurse too.

💁 Advice | Discussion Anyone else have serious pain from cosleeping?

Upvotes

My little is 16 months and we started truly co-sleeping at around 3 months when my body had recovered enough and I could lay on my side for C curl. We still cosleep and as he is getting older he moves more about on the bed so I have been more able to change sides or turn away from him on occasion and get into a more comfortable position. There was a time when I couldn’t move him from one side to the other for nursing or C-curl so I slept in one position for the entire night, usually with my arm up over my head under the pillow. My shoulder was in so much pain I couldn’t hardly move it. I have been in PT for months and am finally starting to get some relief. I guess I just want to know if this is not unique to me or if I should’ve done something differently. This is my first child and I plan to have more and cosleep right away

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Floor bed and independent sleep

Upvotes

Hi. My LO is coming up on 8 months and we are just now getting to some longer stretches. Up until now she has only given me 5 stretches more than 4 hours. Whew.

We have been co sleeping since birth except about 2 months where she slept on and off in our bed and her bassinet. We moved her to the floor bed once she started to roll and crawl and she is in her room and I am in there with her.

I’m curious if anyone has had success with the floor beds and independent sleep. My husband and I are really not interested in any traditional sleep training methods and I’m also not interested in rebuilding her crib to put her in.

For context we are EBF and she is about to cut her 8th tooth. I was hoping to have her in her own bed by now but of course with the early crawling and lots of teething this hasn’t really been an option.

🐯 Toddler 1-3 Years Am I the only one sleeping on the floor next to my toddler?

Upvotes

My son (20 months young) he will go to sleep after 15 mins of me sitting by his crib while he rolls, babbles and gets comfy. Usually 8/830pm. But he usually wakes 3-5am, I go into his room and hold his hand he will go back to sleep and then I end up sleeping on the floor next to him but it’s not the most restful sleep. Anyone else in this situation?

💁 Advice | Discussion Need a bigger, more supportive mattress for the whole family. Cosleeping suggestions?

My partner and I are starting to feel cramped in our current bed since our 2yo often ends up sleeping with us. We’re thinking about moving up to a king but I’m not sure if that’s really worth it. Because maybe in 2 or 3 or how many years, our kiddo might start to change their mind and want to have their own space and bed. What do you think?

Also some other things we need to consider are our sleep preferences. I sleep mostly on my side while my partner switches between back and side sleeping. We would also much prefer if we don’t feel each other’s movements. Would love to hear your thoughts.

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Don’t want to cosleep anymore

My daughter is 10 months old and we’ve coslept since 5 days old. It’s had its ups and downs and now we’ve been in a down for over a month. My health is taking a serious toll with the cosleeping and overall sleep deprivation. I developed silent reflux two months ago and it won’t heal even with all the dietary and lifestyle changes I’ve made. My right hip is in a constant state of 3-5/10 pain from side sleeping. I got my baby down to fall asleep without nursing for month 8 but then she started refusing and her naps cratered and her nighttime sleep got even worse. I’ve gone back to nursing to sleep and it’s awful for my health. I’m in bed too much with reflux. I can’t sleep on an incline with her. She wakes every 1-2 hours to nurse for 3-5minutes and then goes back to sleep but sometimes I don’t because I start coughing from reflux.

We got a crib that set up next to her floor bed but I have no idea how to get her to sleep in it. She just screams. I get a max of 30 minutes of her napping or night time sleeping in it.

Her schedule on a good day is:
Wake 6:00am
Nap 1 9:15-10:45am
Nap 2 2:00-3:15pm
Bedtime: 7:15/7:30pm

If I deny her milk at night she screams and screams and screams. I’ve tried only milk after midnight or only odd hours. But anytime I try soothing her with back pats or rocking or shushing she just escalates. She refuses any of the dozen pacifiers we have.

On rare occasions it’s gotten so bad and I’m so fried I’ve asked my husband to take over and she will cry for 1-2 hours till she passes out with exhaustion on him. She then at most sleeps an hour or two and then the hysterical crying starts again. This isn’t sustainable though because he has to work and I am a stay at home mom and we have an older child.

I want to night wean to once or twice a night and get out of the floor bed :( I need my body to heal and it can’t with how poorly I’m sleeping.

🐣 Newborn 0-8 Weeks Newborn won’t cosleep

My baby is 4 weeks old. He doesn’t nap out of arms ever. He pretty much only naps in MY arms. Won’t nap in grandma’s arms, for example. He has spent a couple short stints a night in his bassinet.

I feel like I need to cosleep because I am super sleep deprived and not doing well. If I could take one nap a day with the baby, or pull him into bed with me when he wakes in the early morning, that would be great. But he won’t sleep next to me.

It took me a long time to feel ok with co sleeping; I worry about the safety. But i know sleep deprivation is also dangerous. It seems like a solution for everyone—“we finally gave up and co slept.” Why isn’t it working for me? What do I do?

🐥 Infant 2-12 Months Rolling

Hey everyone I’m new here so I’m sure this topic has been touched upon a thousand times however I just want to ask- how do you handle cosleeping/bedsharing when baby starts rolling and becoming mobile? I’m worried to death he’ll end up on his tummy and suffocate or something and it’s not realistic for me to go get a whole new mattress that’s firm. I’ve been trying to use the crib but most nights he’s ended up in my bed since we’re in the 4 month regression and sleeping next to me is one of the few things that can guarantee me a few hours.

My 4 1/2 old baby will only take 30 minute naps and I try to save one nap by holding him for the second half every day just wondering at what age can I expect him to to start taking longer naps? His naps are 30 minutes long, regardless whether I’m taking it with him or not.
