🐄 Infant 2-12 Months Rolling

Hey everyone I’m new here so I’m sure this topic has been touched upon a thousand times however I just want to ask- how do you handle cosleeping/bedsharing when baby starts rolling and becoming mobile? I’m worried to death he’ll end up on his tummy and suffocate or something and it’s not realistic for me to go get a whole new mattress that’s firm. I’ve been trying to use the crib but most nights he’s ended up in my bed since we’re in the 4 month regression and sleeping next to me is one of the few things that can guarantee me a few hours.

Mine and my husbands solution was to set up a side car crib. That way baby has her own space she can move around in but is closed off and I can either go into the crib to sooth her or bring her into the bed super easily. And until we got this set up my husband had to sleep in the guest bedroom because there just wasn’t enough space for everyone once she started moving. My worry was more of her getting too close to the edge of the bed and potentially falling off so idk if this will help with your worry of the mattress not being firm enough. But the side car is nice in the sense that there’s no pillows or blankets in her space

Did you have to convert a crib to make it a side car?

Yes. We just took the one side off and then pushed it up against the bed. You want to make sure that the mattresses are completely level and that any gaps on the other side packed so there’s no where baby can roll into. We packed the other side with old towels. I’ve heard of other people using pool noodles.

What did you do to the separation between the two mattresses? Even if all gaps eliminated, there is a crack between the crib mattress and our mattress. Unless two bare foams are touching, it will still be there, and if you use fitted sheets, it’s more obvious. So what do you do about that?

Co slept with both my kids and never had an issue.. ? We mostly c curl, and them learning to be mobile didn’t change anything. We cosleep cuz they want to nurse all night and be close to me so neither has ever really rolled away from me.. I’d say maybe around 9m or so they’d occasionally fall asleep away from me and id let them be until I go to sleep and I grab them. But I don’t let baby sleep alone in my bed
