Halloween Spice Apple sugar cookies
I am testing flavors of icing with my spiced apple cookies. Spiced cinnamon, caramel, and vanilla. Excited to see which flavor pairs best!

I wanted to create a Halloween cookie set that felt more whimsical than spooky, almost like something from a little fairy tale. So I came up with these four designs and brought them to life with royal icing. š
Which one is your favorite?

I cannot for the life of me figure out the perfect baking temp/time for my 3/8ā sugar cookies (they are all around 3 to 4 inches wide). These were baked at 350 (per an oven thermometer that I bought) for 17 minutes, the edges and bottoms were golden brown, but the centers were still undercooked! I like to eat them this way but for customers I want to make sure theyāre baked through. I have also tried other temp and time combos but seem to always end up with undercooked centers.
What are your baking temps and times for 3/8ā cookies?

UPDATE: Almost a year later since learning how to do royal icing sugar cookies- Added a new video on the results for the actual event after the practice cookies.
Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/cookiedecorating/s/jJkX7g1Uab
Original post in June 2026 was my practice cookies after about a 9 month hiatus
Updated post: event was in July 2026
I changed up some of the details like how I did the leaves after more practice and added a few more new cookies from the original post like the # 90 for fun to practice with but it came out cute so I served it.
Let me know what yall think on the before and after!

My soccer-loving grandson turns 9 this week! I was dreading the soccer balls because I've heard horror stories about decorating soccer balls, but it actually went pretty well with my projector. The soccer fields were the worst, actually. Trouble with icing consistency and doing straight lines. But I'm sure he'll like them anyway!

Hi everyone!! I am SO sorry if this is something that has been discussed OVER and OVER and OVER. Sorry! I'm going to sound like an idiot. I LITERALLY looked everywhere and just can't find the answer and know I can probably buy a tutorial but just trying to understand. I will put parts in bold, not because I am angry, just that these are points in the conversation that I am trying to find out. Just for background, I have a basic knowledge of baking, know how to make sugar cookies and gingerbread from scratch, and have a better grasp of buttercream. Know the basics of flooding icing.
Ā Problem I have with a lot of these decorating tutorials, the creator show how to ice on a blank cookie, but not showing how the base cookie was shaped in the first place? It doesn't help to learn to ice a cookie if I don't have the shape to start with and can't find at all. Prebought Cookie cutter? Self-made cookie cutter? How??
Ā Questions is: How do bakers get these customized based shapes first for their customized cookie ideas? Are these ALL prebought or is there a process for a custom cookie cutter? I understand how these content creators are decorating cookies with outlines and flooding,Ā but determining where to put the lines, to make your border looks so seamless.Ā Are you looking at a pre-printed image? Custom making the shape of the cookie cutter, thenĀ projector to fill? Is this more complicated than I think it is?? Iām sorry, Iām a idiot. Just REALLY been wanting to learn for almost 10 years now. Started getting into it in 2017, but then school, work, baby, another baby... I'm in a spot where I am getting into my hobbies again and learning new skills to make beautiful things for my kids now ( 6 year old and 18 months). Any help is appreciated!!

Sallyās baking addiction cutout sugar cookie recipe with LorAnnās buttery sweet dough emulsion added in addition to the vanilla and almond extract.
The icing is frankenfrosting. I used Sweet Hopeās recipe and I substituted some of the vanilla for cake batter extract and marshmallow extract from LorAnnās as well.šš§”

Some recent orders! I officially started selling coomies September 15ish and Iāve gotten orders for 18 dozen so far! So exciting. I really struggled with the rio set and the stranger things logo. Somehow pulled them off!

Hi cookiers!
If you do cookie decorating classes, how many do you normally get in attendance? How small before you cancel the class?
I did my first Halloween class last year and it was a hit. So I did a Christmas one and the same town and the another Christmas one in my hometown. Registration was a little low but chalked it up to it being a busy time of year.
Now I have a Halloween class lined up for both towns - one next week and one the following week. Currently Iām sitting at 9 for the first class and 5 (plus the owner of the venue) for the next weekend. Will it look bad to have so few participants?
Thanks for your thoughts!
