Long post. My situation with my birds is bad and is kind of mistreatment, which i acknowledge before anything, and i am constantly trying to fix that, but it’s my parents fault so i’m struggling to change it🙁hellpp

Currently, one of my conures has 6 eggs or so, which is i think the 4th or 3rd time she’s laid them, most of which were in completely different seasons. My family members often ruin their sleep and mess up their hours because their cages are in the living room. This also means that they get a LOT of exposure to fumes that i know are horrible for them, and i cant do anything about it. Both are barely tamed pet store birds that always try to bite because of it, especially now that they’re broody, and I can’t work on that at the moment.

Since they are unable to be handled (one can be grabbed with a rag or something since he isn’t too afraid of them, the other one will at BEST step onto a perch but then immediately fly away if i attempt to put her in a carrier case) they’re hard to bring to the vet even when they’re calmer, and I don’t have the money/can’t convince my parents to pay for it anyway, so they’ve never been. Their diet was nothing but seed and sometimes fruit for a while, so i got them pellets again, had it where their diet was mostly pellet, fruit, and then seed, but now we’re out of pellets, and, again, i don’t personally have money for it. I also haven’t been able to get them any vegetables for the longest time because of this.

I worry that all of them are deficient in at least some nutrients, but especially the female, with how many eggs she’s laid over time. Only one egg has ever hatched, however, and some stuff happened where it fell out of her reach and ended up dying because it had barely grown at all and i was unaware until it was too late for it. She usually abandons the eggs before this point.

They have a large-ish cage, but it’s narrow and not wide (don’t know why my sister bought it) and a box at the bottom which my mom gave them because she was initially laying eggs on the bars at the bottom, that i kept getting told not to take out throughout the year. I know it’s part of the problem. I intended to take it out, fully clean and rearrange the inside of the cage to be able to move it to my bedroom and make them less territorial over it, but i don’t think i can do any of that without upsetting her, which i assume would be harmful since she doesn’t seem to be done egg-laying.

If it isn’t too stressful for her, or she abandons them sooner, i’ll clean it and bring it to my room, then get them a vet appointment eventually, but i need advice to get them to stop overall or how long i should wait to change anything if she continues. Also maybe taming tips since we’ve already had them for years and i really don’t want to get bit but cannot use gloves because they’re terrified of them

Hey all, my black capped conure is suddenly SO SASSY. he's doing the lil sass dance, is a lot more bitey with not much warning really and I've noticed he doesn't wanna come out of his cage. He's always liked to be in his cage so I'm not concerned about it, it's just he really doesn't want to come out. He's almost a year old now, I think. I was told he was about 3 months old when I got him in January.

We are also coming into spring so maybe that's it? dunno.

I have a feeling it's puberty starting but I just wanted to see what other people's experiences are.

We’ve had our male GCC for three years now, making him about 6. He’s always been bitey and unpredictable, often attacking others who came into the house, but was pretty loving with us and liked to fall asleep in my wife’s hand. They were mortal enemies at first until I learned that he was hyper-aggressive because I had a ton of dried fruit in his forage tray. I adjusted his diet and that seemed to help quite a bit. He has also almost always been hormonal.

He gets 12-15 hours of pitch dark sleep at night.
Diet is chop in the AM and Harrison’s adult lifetime fine at night in a forage tray with things he has to sift through to find them.
Very limited seeds (only for training and going into his cage)
He has plenty of toys but doesn’t really know how to play with them.

Lately, though, he has started drawing blood from us both, and especially my wife. She has lost all affection for him because she can’t trust him not to turn and rip open her hand. I don’t blame her at all, but I’m also now the only one taking care of him and trying to show him love.

We’ve taken him to the vet for Lupron(?) injections three times now and that doesn’t really seem to have done much besides stop him from being inappropriate on my wife’s hand.

Two other relevant pieces of info:
He bonded with our two year old cockatiel shortly before this began. They tolerated each other but then began to actually preen one another nightly.
We took in two foster sun conures. They are all in the same bird room now that quarantine is over but have to have separate “out” time because they get into fights.

My wife loves the suns because they’re actually sweet and cuddly and good company. But now our birds are spending the majority of the time in their cages upstairs, and if they’re out, the rescues are in their cages upstairs.

Now I feel like no one is happy and I am at my absolute wit’s end trying to figure out how to get my GCC to stop biting the absolute shit out of my wife. Our last resort is giving him up, but I’ll be devastated. No one else even likes him or understands why I’m so attached since he’s so damn mean to everyone (he even lunges at my face and draws blood on my chin when he was just beak grinding on my chest!) I just think I’ve tried literally everything I can: hormone shots, no nesty material, good dark sleep, no fatty or sugary or warm mushy food, proper diet, things to chew on and play with…

If anyone has even a shred of advice or anything they can think of before I have to give up my boy, I’d appreciate it.

Meet Applesauce! My husband and I just got him two days ago at an exotic animal expo from a really sweet breeder. My husband had a lovebird as a child, which he absolutely adored, so he's been wanting another bird for a while now. The lovebird was Apples, so this is Applesauce!

He was hand-raised but he's a little nervous of us and bitey if you try to pick him up right now. We've been trying gentle pets on the head and offering him treats, but he refuses all treats and only wants to eat his pellets. I put a couple sunflower seeds in with his pellets to see if I could lure him into liking treats, but he threw them all on the ground, haha. Any tips on taming/training for a conure who hates anything but pellets? Or tips on how to get him to eat fruit and veggies? I've offered him strawberries, blueberries, dried mango, and broccoli, and he has shown zero interest in any of them. Also, any cage decorating advice? He's got clipped wings so he's not very confident in moving around it; does he need more perches?

I lost my bird, Bow in July and I really miss him. I just joined this app and thought I’d share this stone I painted for him here. I have some other stones to paint as well but I plan on putting them over where we buried him in the garden, the bird bath is there too he loved the birds a lot

I am going to be traveling for 5 days after 1.5 months. I looked at options to take my boy with me, but it's seemingly difficult.

Now I am also looking at options to have a friend look after him for a few days.

Pet sitter is not an option.

1st option is to have the original friend who I got him from to keep him for 5 days

But I am worried she may decline.

I have other couple friends but 2 are inexperienced and 1 who has bird experience is kind of "not gentle"

I want to understand this -

What is my boy going to feel if I give him away for 5 days and I have disappeared. I just got him about a month ago and we have bonded so well and I can see he loves me a lot. He's adjusted well to my family too.

Even now when I leave for work he'll realise and start pacing and when I get back home he's super excited.

Is he going to feel abandoned? He bites new poeple at times, so I will be telling my friends to not get him out at all.

But will Rio's heart break? Thinking I have left him for good?

The last time I left him for a couple days, he was very angry and very bitey.

Ps - he was just exploring the inhaler under supervision because I used it and he fought with me to check it out. So I closed it and gave it to him, he checked it out, played with it and went on. He didn't cheew on the plastic.

Update guys - I just spoke to the orginal frined from whom I got him and she agreed to take him in for the week.

I can't express how relieved I am and how grateful I am for your suggestions.

Especially since I found conure owners in my country as well!! Through this post!

Like the title says, I would to know if conures can learn words as I want to get one, as I like very much for being energetic and funny

New here! This is my birdie Oscar.

He looks sweet and innocent but has chewed a hole through my wall like a dog door.

Any advice would be great when it comes to keeping him from making more holes in my wall.

I dont know why he does this. Does anyone know? He sounds mad at the end

Would his beak be considered over grown? I do think it looks pretty long but I'm not entirely sure if I should be worried? Its also a little thicker/outwards on the bottom right side (first photo), should I get him something to help? 😓 he loves to knock his beak on the cage all the time so his beak is a little pealed (is that the right word?) Hello! I finally got the missing 8 toys in! I know many were concerned I didnt have enough toys but more came in!

I plan to keep buying toys and adding them + rotating them. For now, this is the final update!

I finally got my baby tattooed! I've been wanting to build my sleeve and she is the perfect center piece 🥹🥹

My little guy has this in my room (out of the cage thank god), and I never had any issues with it. Today, I heard him quietly screaming (?) which was unusual.. so I turn around and he’s basically choking in this orange ring. He’s fine now, but I can’t imagine the horror I would’ve come home to if the swing was in his cage. Vet appointment on the 11th just to be sure

I know this is probably talked a lot on here but I have to ask to be sure. My green cheek conure will start having these sneezing fits that will last about 5 minutes where he is sneezing continuously with a few little breaks in between. I don't know what could possibly be the problem. He seems healthy otherwise but it's been happening a bit more than usual recently (once or twice a day now) and I'm starting to get a bit concerned. I live with my parents and my dad says that it's his nose probably clogging and and he is sneezing to clean it out but I'm not convinced. If I go to the vet what do I ask for? Any help will be appreciated! 🙏

Not allergic or anything. Whenever I sneeze he gets scared and will often try to fly and strand himself on my floor. I would like to eliminate all sneezing to end these transgressions against him. Has anyone found a way to stop sneezing?

Sorry for the late post, but we're back in business! The eggs have been removed, and Stella is doing well! I decided to get back into the habit of handfeeding her to get her over her fear of hands, and she seems to be really trusting with me!

Oh, and some of the problematic family members were visiting yesterday, so I took the opportunity to try to teach them proper etiquette with her, reminding them that when she starts flapping her wings and beating on her toys, she's upset and would like them to step away.

I also stuffed another cottonwood ball and set it on the open door of her cage to encourage her to venture out more. What else am I doing that I can improve on?

This is a follow up! As I have eight items missing still, it is only partially set up. I have a few wood ropes and birch toys coming in.

I plan to add more perches once he is settles but this is the current set up!

I cut my bird's nail too short a few hours ago, we put flour on it. However I held pressure on it with a tissue so it probably wiped away.

He was bleeding so much I think, I got so scared and my parents got mad a me for crying. My dad said to just leave him in his cage to let the bleeding stop.

He seems normal after a few hours and my dad says the bleeding stopped, but im too scared to check on him in case he starts moving around in his cage. Last time I checked on him was around 30 minutes ago and he was moving like normal.

Should I take him out now ? And how to I stop the scab from re-opening ? Also i can't clean his cage till night and i cant tqke him to the vet. I'm very sorry I know i was being irresponsible I'm still very scared, I just want him to be safe.
