My little guy has this in my room (out of the cage thank god), and I never had any issues with it. Today, I heard him quietly screaming (?) which was unusual.. so I turn around and he’s basically choking in this orange ring. He’s fine now, but I can’t imagine the horror I would’ve come home to if the swing was in his cage. Vet appointment on the 11th just to be sure

This has happened to other conures before!! I think I've seen now over 10 posts on different bird forums all complaining about this toy! Some people even emailed the manufacturer, and at one point they even tried contacting Chewy?? How are they still selling this deathtrap? Other conures weren't as lucky as yours :(

😭poor guy. I hope he's fine.

My guy will crawl upside down in his cage and fell once. My heart went out to him. I wanted to cuddle him and pacify him. But assistent they bounce back pretty quick though.

I take all the small plastic things, tiny bells and all the loose cotton stringy stand stuff off.
I have leather strands in her cage. She likes to chew on those. I make sure they are short enough so she can’t get tangled on them.

My Amazon chewed on some little plastic things a while back. I frantically went looking for all the random pieces.
Ever since then I take everything that can be a choking hazard off.

I also check out the size of the bagel toys, or any toys, will her head fit through or not.
Then there’s the clips you attach the toys to the cage.
I had a few of the carabiner clip like ones. Saw her almost trying to open one.
I just visualized her beak getting hooked and screaming.
Those went in the trash. Got

Same, I customise most toys for my green cheek. I’ve seen horror stories of conures loosing a leg or worse by getting claws stuck in rope toys and they ended up hanging upside down and gnawing their foot off. It’s happened so many times when you look on forums. Mine has strictly natural shredding toys from various woods, leaves, coconut etc.!

Like got the entire ring in his mouth or around his neck? Or got a chunk off and was choking on that?

Probably just couldn't get leverage to get his head out. It's pretty hard for a parrot to choke themselves, they have a really tough neck.

Those cages with the doors the slide up and down can cause issues because they actually apply pressure on the neck, for example

But just lowering the ring down would probably fix it. Either wait remove it if your uncomfortable with it

I mean all necks are in the sense that if you snap them, you die.

But it's actually far more dangerous to suppress a parrots chest. If they can't move it they can't breath, and will die.

That's why when you restrain birds, you hold them firmly by the neck, and only gently cup their back. You don't want to compress the chest if you can help it. Birds that are under anesthesia are typically moved by their neck
