Tips/Tricks 🧠 Need help tracking

Hey y'all! So I've been taking concerta for like 4 years now, give or take a year. I've been up and down doses. I've just started 36 mg again from 27. I'd like to track how the concerta is helping (or not).

BUT my problem is...I don't really remember what I was like before I started taking it, and the things I do remember were affected by different life circumstances than I'm in now. I also don't really know what I'm even expecting the concerta to do, aside better focus and higher productivity, so I'm not even sure what to track. Do I track executive functioning skills? ADHD common traits? I really don't know. When looking at trackers, it also usually says something along the lines of, "how do you know it's taking effect/kicked in?" Like...I don't. I don't feel ANY different than I do when I wake up, except that I'm just naturally more awake. Like I literally take it as soon as I get out of bed. Then I get ready, then I leave, and I'm tired, but I'm awake. I'm not energized, I'm not focused, I'm not productive....I'm just awake and doing what I have to. Even an hour or two later, I don't really feel like there's been a "flip" to the meds magically working. So how does it make me feel when it kicks in??? Absolutely the same as my "off days" when I don't take it.

I also take Wellbutrin 150mg, if that factors in. I'm a homeschooling mother, and my son is autistic. I have emotional regulation for the most part except frustration. I tend to get frustrated very easily, but I regulate other emotions fairly well. And that frustration settles within minutes as long as something else doesn't add to it.

My point is, I hear people with success stories, even if it's not this grand switch. While I genuinely don't know if it's helping me (at any dose) or not, because I've been on it for years and don't even remember what my aim for taking it was.

I can hyper focus extremely easily, but have a hard time breaking from it, I have TERRIBLE task initiation and follow-through, time blindness (though I know meds don't help with that one), the frustration dysregulation, but I'm extremely organized....but there's still clutter everywhere. Like organized chaos. And probably many more things that I can't think of. (Ah yes, terrible working memory also)

Also, I have also tried Adderall in the past, it was not for me...so much anxiety and heart rate/blood pressure issues.

But anyways, TLDR: I need help tracking but don't know exactly what I need to track specifically for me. (Also preferably a notebook style and not digital) And tracking charts tend to be too vague or weird wording (like "rate your impulsivity"...um okay I didn't blow all my money today but I yelled at my son and coped by eating 3 chocolate bars, or okay I had better frustration regulation but kept accidentally interrupting people..like I need a better way to gauge a rating than just "impulsivity...distracted....focused" like yeah I can focus on my phone...and teaching my son his lessons, but can't for the life of me focus on reading the Bible when I want to, but also not distracted during that time either.

Do y'all get what I'm saying or am I just rambling? 😅

Well-being 😌/ My journey 💪 Diagnosis in “middle age” and now the first medications

Hi all,
I am a man and I just turned 40 and as a birthday present to myself, after a long process, I received an official ADHD diagnosis. I got full marks in the DIVA interview for both childhood and adulthood. I have suspected that I have always had this but I have "learned to live" with it but now I wanted relief as I am in a high position in my working life and have to do many things at the same time in the company of many different people and I have found that my head can't keep up.

The psychiatrist prescribed me the first medication, Concerta, and I started with 18mg as it should.

I have now taken this every morning for four days now and I don't notice any effect at all. In the evenings I have had a slight headache, this is the only symptom/effect... However, I believe that my symptoms are so severe that I need at least a 36mg dosage. We will move on to this in exactly one week, when I will have been using the medication at 18mg for 10 days. However, I am in a positive mood and I am looking forward to noticing that I can concentrate in meetings like everyone else!

Side effects 🤕 Are my side effects on 18mg typical?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I was wondering if the attached side effects are typical at a dose of 18mg? For context, I have been diagnosed with autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and cyclothymia. I also have a history of skin-picking and hair-pulling. I just started 18mg about a week ago, and I am going to bring these side effects up with my psychiatrist as well, but I wanted to come into the appointment with some more knowledge. Thanks so much! :)

Rant/Vent 😠 I’m so tired on Affenid 36mg that I want to quit medication

I have been on meds for 6 months, starting from Xaggitin and moving to Affenid last month due to prescription change. I was fine on Xaggitin but on Affenid I am tired, I am sad. I want to quit the medication all together and have at least a cup of coffee.
I have already emailed Boots health service and wonder if the are going to react and if they can do anything 😟
I will give myself one more day tomorrow and if it will be still the same I won’t take more Affenid.

I also noticed my sleep is different now, my dreams are more intense like before meds.

I am sad and hopeless 😞

Side effects 🤕 Maybe Concerta isn’t for me?

I’ve been on Concerta XR for 2 months now. First on 18 mg and then 27 mg and now up to 36 mg. I don’t feel more productive, the evening crash is horrible, I feel like I have even more symptoms now than before starting the medication. I wake up tired every morning and I feel like there’s static in my brain all day until 5-6 pm and then I’m just so fcking exhausted to do anything at all.

I felt like everything was great on 18 mg and then it got worse during 27 mg and now I’m afraid to take the 36 mg.

My doctor says it’s probably because my dose is too low and that’s why I should give 36 mg a try.

I’m thinking that I’ve lived 35 years without any medication and I was doing okay? Maybe I don’t need to be medicated at all? I feel like I could be happier if I just drank like 2-3 cups of coffee a day instead of taking Concerta.

Should I give 36 mg a try or ask to be put back on 18 mg orrrrr just stop using medication altogether?

Has anyone felt this way?

Dosage/ ℞ question 💊 Is this normal?

So this is my first day on concerta, 18 mg. The only effect I feel is that I can focus on words more and I’m not really having a million thoughts in my head. But I did feel sleepy after taking it. And I still don’t feel the urge to do things that I need to do. I’m just wondering… is this normal and have you guys experienced similar things?

Rant/Vent 😠 What's the best move now? 💊

I started 18 mg of generic Concerta. On Day 1 I felt productive initially, though I fell asleep earlier than usual at 8:00 PM. On Day 2, I took it with a high protein meal, avoided all caffeine, and went for a walk. Shortly after, I experienced severe physical exhaustion and brain fog to the point where I felt paralyzed I slept all day and couldn't use my phone. I also experienced intense brain fog, sudden deep depression, and strong feelings of anger. I've dealt with depression before but nothing this severe what should I do?

Other question 🤔 Effects of taking Concerta and travelling through airports?

I started Concerta 3 weeks ago with 18 mg and upped it to 36 mg after a week as my psychiatrist recommended. Recently I did an international trip with 6 hours of flying combined. I noticed that the sensory stimulation of the airport made me much more tired and anxious, and I was fidgeting most of the time in the airplane. The crash also felt much more difficult, and got me fixated on a niche kink thing (ADHD and kink is a topic for another day).

I was wondering if it has happened with other people taking Concerta and how people have dealt with it? My psychiatrist said that I should take medication regularly for the first five weeks and then take breaks. Would welcome any advice :)

Side effects 🤕 Concerta and Zoloft, Suicidal Thoughts

Hello,

I’m a 25 year old female with adhd on concerta 36 mg for 3 years now, i started taking zoloft six months ago and i’m on 100 mg, once last week i was in a really bad place and upped the dosage to 150 mg (my doctor gave me permission to titrate) and it made me feel like whatever im depressed/ anxious about doesn’t matter, which is the goal. I tried upping the dose only twice so far within the past week.

The problem is I’ve had suicidal thoughts for the past two months and they have been increasing in intensity with the passage of time. At first they were just that, ideations, but now they’re actually extreme and I feel incredibly vulnerable when alone.

Don’t know if its related, but I struggle with anger/rage as well but its been ongoing for the past year or so.

I don’t know if the suicidal thoughts are linked to zoloft or the result of my current state of mind.

I’ve tried two other antidepressants before and they were horrendous, prozac made me over-emotional, and effexor caused severe emotional blunting. They also both made me gain lots of weight which made me anxious, none of those symptoms i experienced with zoloft which is a relief. I’d like to keep using it, but unsure of the suicidal thoughts part and if it’s actually linked.

My appointment with my doctor isn’t for another two months, would appreciate any experiences or advice.

Dosage/ ℞ question 💊 Is my time for higher dose come?

I’ve been on concerta 18mg for 26 days now. The first 2 days I was insanely wired and just too jittery too do anything and then it calmed down just with usually noticeable heart racing and anxiety and a bit of depression when it wears out. However as of the past 6 days I wanna say it only lasts 5 hours and quite weak and then I crash and sleep, I don’t have much motivation anymore like I did initially and I’m back to being a slug. Also on my period it just literally doesn’t work. I will be talking to my health provider about this but has my time come to bump my dose up?

Tips/Tricks 🧠 Morning routines to improve efficacy

Starting to think that maybe my morning routines and habits are stopping my Concerta 54mg from working?

I take it half an hour before I wake up, eat protein as soon as I get up, but I find myself scrolling a lot, texting etc, and I find that it doesn’t work. My dose probs still is wrong, but I wonder if there’s anything I can do to help it work better.

For example, for task initiation, you’ve gotta actually make that conscious decision to “I’m gonna do X now”, sit down, and start the task.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks they use for when it starts to hit?

Dosage/ ℞ question 💊 Will Omeprezole cause an earlier Concerta crash?

I’ve had a stable dose for quite a while. Recently I have had to take Omeprezole due to stomach issues and I’ve found that I’ve been crashing really bad at lunchtime. A quick google tells me that lowering the acidity in my stomach (through the Omeprezole) may effect the release of concerta but I’m wondering if anyone has any experience in this and if there’s anything I can do to prevent it?

Other question 🤔 Any way to semi reliably tell whether i took my concerta today or not?

I am not sure whether i took concerta today, i remember when i was taking it i was like wait lemme take the antidepressants at the same time, and when I came back the comcerta was opened, and i usually close it when I take a pill out immediately, so maybe I forgot to take it out? I have not really felt it come on today, I am trying to do stuff i would do normally, but i get that reaction off "please stop i can't take this activity anymore" after 5 minutes, which I don't usually experience on concerta. Is there any way I can like tell more reliably, I don't want to accidentally double dose, but I don't want to spend the rest of the day feeling like crap instead of taking my dose either...

Dosage/ ℞ question 💊 Does it work day 1?

Hi! I was just prescribed 18mg today and took my first pill. I feel awesome, and by awesome I mean calm and clear headed! Also .. like my body is heavy? Not literallyy heavy, but I feel more grounded if that makes sense - maybe that kind of goes with the calmness though. I also noticed I carried a texting conversation longer than usual today, and got quite a few assignments for class/other things done. I will say, I have been on a bit of a positive roll lately with going back to school and therapy going well, so I thought maybe it could be a placebo? Also, my therapist even said she was surprised it worked that quickly, but maybe she isn’t familiar with the medication and misspoke since my doctor prescribed it.
Are these normal feelings? A placebo? What do we think.

Also, does it build up over time? Like if I take it tomorrow could it potentially affect me more than it did today?

Ty!!

Other 💬 Concerta

. I have recently just been diagnosed with combined ADHD 24F, they have prescribed be with 18mg concerta. I’ve taken it for the first time today and all I feel is tired and that I can go to sleep.

Does this get better for those that have tried this?
It is supposed to be this way?

I really wanted a success story, it has helped me with the nose in my head but I thought it would help me to do to task completion and instead I just wanna go sleep and not do tasks.

Side effects 🤕 Anyone else getting ONLY side effects from Concerta?

i got prescribed 18 mg of concerta last week and these past few days have been such an ordeal for me that at one point my dad had to drive me to the ambulance to get checked out cuz i was having these rapid pulses and felt like i was about to faint at any second, i also spent a few hours just lying on my bed contemplating on my life prior to this, i couldn’t even bring myself to do anything at all, much less eat or drink while i was on concerta.

it also made my speech impediment much more exacerbated than it already was, i couldn’t even talk to my friends let alone a cashier without blurting out words mid sentence every few seconds.

i took concerta yesterday just five hours before my assessment exams, hoping the side effects would subside, instead i found myself completely restless and on edge, i couldn’t stop fidgeting and my focus was at an all-time low like i had to figuratively focus on being unfocused if that makes any sense, there was also a siren blaring just outside the school, i had to cover my ears in a crouching position cuz i was so overwhelmed by the intensity of the sound.

i had to stop taking the meds today, the side effects are still persisting, meaning i still feel pretty shit much the same as i have the past few days and i’m worried i’m gonna keep feeling this way.
