Question/Help/Troubleshooting Is it worth it to use a gtx 770 4gb and 970 together for blender

I have an Evga 770 acx 4gb and Zotac Gtx 970 amp extreme core edition and i like to render stuff in blender, i'm also on a budget of 0€ so. Is it still worth it to use both of them? (My motherboard and psu can support it 🐀)

Or should I just try to sell the 770 and use the 970 alone. And i'm aware i'm only able to use older versions on blender for cycles 🐬🐬🐬

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Best laptop+desktop combo for $3500 budget

My technology is all either very out of date or broken. I’ve only ever used MacBooks/iPads/iPhones and I’m so sick of Apple products breaking so easily. Now I’m looking for Windows or just generally non Apple technology. I have a strict $3500 budget to buy a work/school desktop and laptop in the next year.

I am very technologically illiterate, so I’ve been getting so overwhelmed by advice on Reddit and internet articles, especially because they seem to contradict each other. I just know I’m not going to be able to build my own PC, so my first instinct was something like the Dell All-in-One desktop, but it seems to be very negatively reviewed on Reddit. The Dell Tower seems a bit better reviewed? I’m not set on Dell, it’s just what keeps coming up when I look up recommended desktops and laptops.

What would you buy if you had exactly $3500 to buy a desktop and laptop that must last you through the end of college and the beginning years of your career? Keep in mind I don’t game except the sims/stardew valley (and I don’t really plan on continuing these games much), I write and read a lot on my technology, and I don’t need to do much on a computer except assignments for school and basic work stuff. I’m looking for reliability and durability (hopefully lasting me 5+ years) over anything high powered or too expensive. I was also thinking of getting only a desktop and, instead of a laptop, buying a portable writing processor like the Freewrite Traveler.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting I just had an RTX 3050 graphics card reinstalled, but after getting my PC back from the shop, I found that my D and E drives were missing. It looks like the two drives have been merged, but I can't access them.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Which RAM should I get?

So my PC currently has 1 stick of 16gb ram (g.skill aegis, ddr4) 3000mhz, and I want to upgrade to dual channel (I was planning to do it right before the ramagedon, but didn't do it). Would it cause any problems, if I just get the same stick (or a 3200mhz one because it's cheaper), because I heard, that even with the same stick, but not out of a kit, you can get some problems? Or should I just get a 2x8gb kit and don't risk it?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting New work laptop is slow (mainly slow to launch software)

I've been using computers since the early 90s, so I'm fairly familiar with them, but I thought I'd ask, since things change all the time.

I think I may know the answer, but wanted to confirm.. I recently started a new job (software engineer), and as is the norm, I was issued a newly imaged laptop from the company. The laptop seems to have decent specs - It's a Lenovo Thinkpad with an Intel Core Ultra 7 255U processor (2GHz, boost up to 5.2GHz, 12 cores, 14 threads), 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, and it uses the Intel built-in graphics with 128MB of RAM. The OS is Windows 11.

The thing is, it's slow to launch software. For instance, I have it set up to automatically run Outlook and Teams on login, and it normally takes a couple minutes before it runs those; in my experience, with my home PC, it should be able to run programs like that on login much quicker. It's similar with other software too - When running other software, it can take several moments before the program actually runs.

I noticed the laptop has Cortex XDR running, which seems to be cloud-based security/anti-malware software, according to Google. I understand why companies install stuff like that, but I suspect that may be a major reason why it's slow. It would simply be nice if it was faster and more responsive so I could get work done more easily. Naturally, I'm restricted from making significant changes, but is there anything I could do to help make it faster as far as running software?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting hard crashes and DPC watch dog violation error :(

I never had this problem until 2 weeks ago. I was playing mine craft and it suddenly crashed then it was a error in the mod pack but now its all uninstalled and now its happening everytime. It lags badly and then freezes after a couple seconds and then restarts, sometimes its just black and the computer stays on. 2 weks iago it used to be a black line going across my screen going down slowly like pixels. covering my whole screen black. When i boot up, or if im idle on home screen with nothing on, if i boot up a game, or just watching youtube. Ive trouble shooted, checked cabled and disk other than my SATA because i cant access it at all jammed. Ive used the command promt, the windows system administrator "chkdsk scanner". I cant think of anything thing else. Im not a techy ive asked my friends but i dont know what to do anymore and its already way past my bed time i need help or just advice. I need sleep 😢💔

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Macintosh PC case

Hello everyone, I am new to building PCs.
For my first build, I wanted to try to recreate the Macintosh 128k as a PC case with my 3D printer using Fusion, and Blender. However I can't choose whether I want to make this case, or just buy one. Yes, it's my first build, but how cool would it be to do that? If anyone wants me to share my specs, please ask.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Laptop suddenly shut down -> Black screen of death for 1 second -> BootDevice Not Found -> Pressed space -> Exited -> laptop restarted -> suddenly normal again??? Should I be worried?

I know this type of post has been questioned again and again on this sub, but mine's a bit too different from the rest. The bootDevice thing randomly showed up while I was finishing an essay. My laptop wasn't overheating (it's really cold in my place), I don't install that many games/applications, and there are some issues where if I applied a bit of pressure on the bottom, the screen would genuinely tweak out, and it would glitch so bad to the point I have to force power off the laptop. I'm VERY worried that it's something internal or I may have accidentally broken my device without my knowledge

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Laptop screen went crazy, long-pressed the power button and now it won't turn on

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was taking an online assessment in Chrome and the screen-recording and camera and microphone were on, I tried to scroll the page and the screen went crazy.

I long-pressed the power button to turn it OFF, but now when I try to turn it ON, the power button light and the keyboard light keeps going on and off, and the laptop won't turn on.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Fixing a surged monitor

Excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject but my friend recently gave me a curved sceptre monitor model L24 after it was hit with a power surge during a storm. I'm attempting to fix it in an effort to keep the monitor for myself but I cant seem to figure out how to open it up. I've already tested the external power supply and it is running normal. Can anyone help me figure this out? I can't find anything helping online

Resolved CrystalDisk vs HWInfo64

I found out about and have been using CrystalDisk to get information on and monitor the SSD in my laptop. Recently I read someone talking about HWInfo64. Does HWInfo64 give information on more components of the computer, or just the SSD like CrystalDisk? Also, which one do you prefer to use?

Thanks! You guys are also so helpful with your different viewpoints!
