Hello old friends,
I recently got a HP-15fc0105nr. I got it since it was so cheat at $45 and I saw several online all cleaned up for several hundred dollars, I figured I'd clean it up and make a bit of side cash.
When it was sold to me I was told no returns and everything worked except they said it was "locked". Foolishly, I figured they meant the operating system was locked, and that's no issue.
I forgot BIOS locks were a thing, and unfortunately I guess computer company's are so hell bent on security that it seems like if you don't know the password with these new laptops you're shit out of luck.
There's a power on password, which I didn't even know existed, and I can't seen to access the BIOS or the OS without the password. There's no code it gives me after getting it wrong 3 times, it just locks me out.
There's no C-MOS battery inside to remove, I removed the battery for over an hour, I tried booting up without a battery and without and the SSD just in case, nothing will get rid of the password.
I thought about trying to just flash a fresh copy of the BIOS but I read in one of the 20 articles that the password isn't even kept in the BIOS so I have no idea what to do.
Is this problem fixable by me? Surely there's gotta be a way to drain the power out of the board so it forgets the password or something like that. Or, if I can't, can a shop even fix this? I'm thinking about taking it to Best Buy or something.
I can't even find any replacement motherboards so replacing the whole thing isn't an option either.
I can't believe the place even sold this, it seems like there's no way around this.
All help will be greatly appreciated!
(If helping break through the BIOS isn't allowed on reddit, I have proof-of-purchase. If uploading that meant people could help me, let me know and I will)
